POSTING ON FACEBOOK
First, I decided to make a
Facebook post, as this is a very
popular platform and therefore
likely to gain the most publicity.
I thought that attaching my
survey to this post may put
people off from giving feedback,
so I kept the request simple and
relatively informal.
3. SOURCE 1 COMMENTS
I think what Hannah means by this is that either
the soundtrack or the background noise such as
wind in the Alice and George dialogue scene is too
loud or differs in volume too greatly. I think this
can be fixed as we are currently looking at finding
a new soundtrack or a way to make the transition
smoother.
This suggestion from John I think is a good point
and something I would like us to take on board,
however our trailer is already quite short and the
sound bites he mentions are quite difficult to cut
because they have a ‘bang’ effect but then extra,
smaller noises at the end. This means that when
we attempt to cut it, it sounds obvious, and when
we tried using cross-fades to make it smoother, it
sounded off. Again, we think this could be
improved upon by trying to find another
soundtrack.
5. QUESTIONS 1 & 2
We had two respondents to this
survey, one female and one male,
the male being 19 years of age
and the female being 18, so they
are both members of our likely
target audience.
6. QUESTION 3
From this question, it seems that
the sound effects and dialogue
were the most effective and/or
enjoyable elements of the trailer.
Additionally, one respondent also
found the cinematography,
narrative/plot and visual/special
effects to be effective. This tells us
that the strongest elements of the
trailer were the dialogue and
sound effects, although through
other sources such as Facebook,
these elements are what people
picked up on as needing
improvement. Nevertheless, an
interesting result.
7. QUESTION 4
I asked this because I was interested in
what genre our trailer is interpreted as
by people who didn’t know anything
about the film prior to seeing it. As
shown on the left, both respondents
thought it was of the crime genre, which
is correct. I was glad because it means
we have included the right familiar
iconography, but also quite surprised, as
I thought the props we used such as
guns could be misinterpreted as symbols
for an action film.
8. QUESTION 5
Through this question I essentially just
wanted to know how the trailer was
generally received by the audience and
if it was so effective that they would
see the film in cinema. Both
respondents said yes to this, which is a
great result. If they had said no,
however, I would have liked to know
why, so an extra comment box for this
option is something to remember for
any future surveys.
9. QUESTION 6
I think this is a fair
estimation, as our
trailer does feature
some adult themes
but does not use
explicit language or
references.
Although, as 17 is
not an age
certification, the
trailer may be closer
to being rated 15.
I don’t fully agree with this response as although they
are correct in that blood isn’t seen consistently and there
are no sexual references, I think the scenes of explicit
drug abuse and scenes of major threat (e.g the gun chase)
make it unsuitable for an audience of 12; they aren’t
equipped to cope with such themes and censorship
wouldn’t allow it.
10. QUESTION 7
In this question, only one
respondent thought there
was an effect that made the
trailer redundant of its
intended effect; namely, the
gun shot sound effects
nearing the end of the
trailer. This is an issue many
people have picked up on, so
it is clear that the montage
section soundtrack needs re-
working.
11. QUESTION 8
I’d like to improve the
trailer in this way as it
is already quite short,
but there is an issue
with time and I’m not
certain what these
scenes could be or how
they would fit into the
trailer. Additionally,
they may be
detrimental in terms
of affecting the
trailer’s flow and build
up of tension.
Again, the soundtrack music seems to be a recurring issue for
most people upon seeing the trailer, so this is what we need
to focus on. This respondent also suggested slowing down
some scenes, so we could experiment with this if we feel it
has the right look.
13. IMGUR COMMENTS
This feedback was quite different
to what others have previously
said, as they thought the choice of
music was good, but the voice-over
difficult to understand in the
beginning. This is something we
could possibly re-record, but of
course time has been quite a
limiting factor for us. Additionally,
if it is only this one person who
found the voice-over hard to
understand, we may be able to
count it as an anomaly. Further
feedback from others may be
needed to clarify this.
14. ATTEMPTED SOURCES
These are some other sources where we attempted to gain feedback, but unfortunately
the post didn’t get any or enough attention.

15. CONCLUSION
Overall, getting feedback from our audience has been really
helpful as it gives an insight into what others think, including
people who previously didn’t know anything about the project as
they are least likely to be biased in any way. It seems that the
main issue lies with the soundtrack, particularly in the montage
sequence, as it doesn’t generate enough tension. The next step
may be to look for a more suitable soundtrack that is easier to
splice together and change without it sounding obviously
tampered with, before we finalise our trailer.
