Discussion
The flavonoid content found in the methanol extract was 807.8mg QE/g of
dried plant material. It was expressed as mg QE/g of dried plant material
using a linear calibration curve equation of quercetin, y = 0.001x - 0.0388
with coefficient of Determination, R² = 0.9779, Where y is absorbance of
methanol extract at 750 nm and x is total flavonoid content in the methanol
extracts of Bauhinia acuminata.
15. Conclusion
The tests carried out for the assessment of phytochemical and antioxidant activities
of Bauhinia acuminata methanol extract revealed the following findings :
The phytochemical tests showed the presence of reducing sugar, glycosides,
alkaloids, terpenoids, carbohydrates, steroid and tannin.
In the quantitative antioxidant activity assay, the IC50 of Bauhinia acuminata
extract was 25.02 µg/ml.
The total flavonoid content was found in the methanol extract was 807.8mg QE/g
of dried plant material.
Finally, it can be said that Bauhinia acuminata extract demonstrated potential
antioxidant activities. So, further investigation might be conducted using pure
compounds of this extract which will determine the responsible compound for these
pharmacological effects.
