2. Our company provide the quantity surveying services from pre-contract to post contract stage.
We handle estimating and cost control, the tendering process and, after contract award, the commercial interface.
Our company carry out estimating and measurement of construction works prior to tender, producing the bill of
quantities; produce tender documentation and manage the tender process; clarify and evaluate tenders; and
manage the resultant contract through monthly valuations, variations control, contract administration and
assessment of claims.

➢ To build a two storey semi detached house (Type
A)
➢ The gross floor area is approximately 2,800 sq ft.
➢ The building’s sits on bakau piles foundation.
➢ The structure comprises of traditional reinforced
concrete frame.
➢ The roof is finished with concrete tiles.

amount of the bills and that amount will

18. Preliminaries
➢ The purpose of Preliminaries section in BQ is to provide information, particulars, general obligations and liabilities, etc of
the project concern to tenderers, who should then price for the various items provided under this section
➢ The Preliminaries section, which form part of the BQ is normally priced by the tenderers separately from trade or
elemental bills , which are integral parts of the BQ. In the Standard Method of Measurement 2 in Malaysia, items under
Preliminaries are grouped into 13 listed categories, as follows:

20. Preamble
The preamble of a bill of quantities is a summary of the work requested.
The preamble is divided into sections that explain the project, materials
needed, unit prices, provisional sums, methods of measurement and
potential errors. In cases in which excavation is included in the project, the
type of rock must be outlined in the preamble. In this section, it is also
helpful to address issues related to unforeseeable costs associated with
the project.
The purpose of a bill of quantities is to indicate the work requested for a
project. When a contract is entered into, it is important to outline all work to
be completed. This allows managers to perform periodic evaluations on the
tasks completed and to ensure that these tasks match what was delineated
in the bill of quantities. Materials, parts and labor must be itemized in the
bill of quantities as reflected in the preamble. The itemized list creates the
estimated cost of the project and allows construction companies to bid on
taking the work.

Editor's Notes
I will be presenting list of drawings and schedule of finishes. For list of drawings, we have 37 piece of detail drawings, 7 sets of architect drawings and 13 sets of structure drawings. For floor finishes, we have 5 finishes for the building which are broken marble slab, mosaic tiles, ceramic tiles, cement render and timber floor. For wall finishes, we have used ceramic tiles for bathroom and kitchen and emulsion paint for all area except bathroom and kitchen. Besides, our ceiling finishes is plain plaster ceiling.
