“Oh GOSH! Reflecting on Hackteria's Collaborative Practices in a Global Do-It...
Album digpak analysis
1. This Album is by Elements of Fear. As the name
suggests we get the idea of fear in each one of the
pictures on the album cover. The front cover of the
album shows a naked woman in the transverse lie
position, chained to something under water where
there is also violin, skull, a clock and other objects,
all suggests the dark mood that the picture gives to
the audience.
We can also see a half shallow foreign object
where it seems like it has a head and two arms
extending to both sides of the woman. All that is in
the picture are there to suggests the idea of fear
and I think it does a pretty good job. The fact that
we don’t see the woman’s face also shows that she
is afraid. This gives the audience the idea of dark
and dangerous mood which is mostly related to
heavy metal band music.
From the name audience can relate to the objects
they see which also means that objects; violin
which suggests music, clock which suggests time
and the woman especially which to me suggests
innocence, all link to fear, they’re the elements of
fear.
Just from the main picture on the front cover we
can get a lot of information about the band, we can
see that the band is a possibly heavy metal band
with couple of band members which they may be
“Emo” as they seem rather emotional with the
element of fear. Their target audience is likely to be
mature teenagers and both young and mid-aged
adults. The reason why I think this would be the
case is because the emotional state of the album
2. Other photos such as the arm coming from the sea, and the photo of the sea with no
objects in it illustrates the idea of fear as much as the main photo does. The hand in
the ocean suggests the idea of being lost and helpless. The hand is reaching out to the
song titles on the back cover which also implements that it is reaching for the songs as
a way of trying to save itself, making the album and the songs seem like as if they are a
way of escaping. Other details include the CD plate being very dark and dull that also
spells out EOF which stands for Elements of Fear. The whole album is set in a dark
colour of navy blue where everything looks dark and also scary fitting with the name of
the album.
