2. This cover doesn’t have much written on it other than the artist’s
name and the album title. The font used is very bold and the use
of capital letters puts more emphasis on the title name ‘heart
attack’. The letters appear to be much wider on the title meaning
it fits nicely in the with shape of the image.
The main image is of the artist with an electric blue dress on and
holding a wall. This image connotes to us as an audience that she
is vulnerable and therefore hiding in the past (behind the wall).
This would therefore link to the title name ‘heart attack’ as it
suggests she is fearful. This also gives the impression that women
are being shown to be dainty and therefore susceptible to pain
and heartache of any kind. However this could be
counterbalanced with the idea that the blue and seethrough dress
suggests she is evolving and therefore this shows women as
independent but reserved.
The image of Demi is positioned to the left of the cover thus
allowing room for the writing and the electrocardiogram across
the bottom of the cover. This therefore draws attention to the
artist’s name which is what audiences look for.
I think the genre of the music on this album would be pop due to
the single bright colours used and the edginess of the dark grey
and black. With this, I think the target audience is girls aged from
roughly 13 to 15.
3. This album cover is extremely simplistic but this is actually very
effective. The only writing on the cover is the name of the artists
across the centre of the cover which overlaps the name of the
album which is simply ‘X’. The font used for the artist’s name
looks like a stamp which makes the cover appear artistic
especially as the letter X looks as though it has been painted on.
The main image is the bright green background with the X on it
thus making the title stand out even more. The green really
stands out and therefore this makes the X stand out which will
stand out to audiences.
I would say the genre of this album is pop due to the bright, block
colour and artistic fonts used. The cover doesn’t give much more
than this away however and therefore I would say the target
audience would be either men aged 17 to 24 or boys ages 12 to
15 (it would completely depend on the music).
4. This typography on this CD cover is rather minimalistic therefore
allowing the main image to stand out. The only writing seen is
the title, the name of the artist and the writing seen on the
stamp in the top right corner. The title ‘Skin Diver Suite’ would
suggest this about being free, thus going diving nude.
The main image relates to the idea behind the title as a painting
of a mermaid is seen with the coral and other sea plants behind
her. From this, the cover may be trying to show women as
fearless, free and majestic like sea creatures. However, it could
also be showing women to live in an unreal world where
everything seems to be happy, away from reality.
I believe the genre of this album is probably classical as this
would relate to the idea of women being majestic and singing
‘sweetly’. I think album cover would probably attract the
attention of women aged 52 but also possibly male music
enthusiasts.
5. This magazine print of the album ‘Long way down’ by Tom Odell uses the album
cover as the background of the spread which means anyone reading the magazine
is immediately drawn to the image. This will therefore stick with them and they are
possible more likely to purchase the album if they see it as they relate the image to
the information posed in the magazine.
The typography here is all bold and is mainly in white. With this, the writing sticks
to the subtilty of the image and the filter used on the image. Alos, this means that
the Brit Awards stamp stands out as it’s in a different font and this is brilliant for
publicity as people seeing this will immediately be aware that this is an award
winning album.
In the background of the image, there appears to be a street and high buildings,
this could relate to the title ‘A long way down’ as it could represent the fact that
he’s getting further and further into the music industry. The image itself appears
very retro which therefore makes the album appear to include very relaxed music.
I believe the target audience for this album is likely to be girls ages 16 to 20 as the
artist is quite young himself and thus probably creating music for a younger
audience.
The image of Tom here makes him appear very friendly and relaxed, this therefore
appears to be representing men as quite timid but they don’t like to admit this.
6. This advert for Jessie J’s ‘Who you are’ album is very eye catching due to the
consistent use of the colour black and a very powerful image that portrays strong
and bold language. The use of black suggests that Jessie isn’t the sort of person
you can work your way around, she’s very much set in stone with her options.
This very much subverts the ideology that women are quite weak and struggle to
defend themselves. Along with this, the title ‘Who you are’ and the pose with her
mouth open, suggests to us that she is trying to tell her audience that they should
just be themselves no matter what they face or what society says.
The close up shot of the main artist has a very powerful effect as it makes the
audience feel engaged with the artists straight away thus hopefully meaning the
listeners will have a better understanding of the songs on the album.
The typography on this advert stands out very much as it only uses two colours,
gold and white. The use of these colours makes the CD appear prestige as it looks
like it the artist has a lot of money and therefore makes the audience think that a
lot of work has gone into the making of this CD.
From just looking at this advert, I would say that the music on this album is more
of an R&B/Hip-hop genre. This is purely based on the use of the gold which we
often relate to R&B. I also think the target audience for this CD is likely to be girls
aged 15.
7. This advert is particularly striking due to the artistic touch. The floral design
covered with an owl, light and faint clouds really stands out on the dark
background. This design stands out as the advert for a rock CD and the target
audience is most likely to be teenagers aged around 16.
The tape with the title on is an effective way of drawing attention to the name of
the album as it’s very different to anything you usually see on a CD cover and
makes it look like more of a piece of artwork. The handwriting font is also a nice
feature as it again makes this look like art work.
The bold writing at the bottom of the page looks separate from the rest of the
poster thus making this information stand out. The yellow also brings out the
yellow in the drawing which brings the advert together.
