2AM- Analysis
Micro Issues:
Narrative Outline The story is about a man walking down
a street at 2 AM in the morning, when
a strangeman was walking towards
the man but he didn’t look normal.
The strange man was moving strangely
and wouldn’tstop smiling. The man
thinks he’s safe fromthe strangeman.
However, the man finds the strange
man beside him smiling.
Narrative theory The shortfilm follows Tordrovs theory
as it starts with the man walking at
night. Then the disruption is the young
man sees the strangeman. This is
wherethe man reacts by crossing the
road. The equilibrium is back when the
young man stops, thinking he is safe.
Then it changes again when the
strangeman is standing behind the
man.
Genre Horror/Thriller. However, it is more
Horror dueto the setting which is at
night. Also, the young man is alone at
night shows a sign of the horror genre.
Throughoutthis time, the music that is
playing is quite sinister to represent
the genre.
Conventions The Film is set a night which suggests
that is a Horror film. Also, the strange
man appears to not be normal. This
also represents a horror film.
Representations The messageof the shortfilm is
showing that many things can happen
at night. Itshows that people should
be vary of whatis out at night due to it

being dark. Itshows a negative
impression on the strangeman who
looks like he has mental illness.
Micro Issues:
Mise en scene The shorthorror film Is setat night.
The strange man is represented as the
smiling man. This is shown as him
being different. This is shown
throughoutthe colour yellow which
shows thecreepy character. In other
horror films the creepy character is
normally represented in dark colour
such as black and red. As the strange
man is called the smiling man, the
yellow fits well into the character.
Editing Throughoutthe shortfilm, different
camera angles are used to show both
characters. The shot, reverse, shotis
to keep us emphasizing with the young
man. The sudden change is shotis to
show the young man glances up to see
the yellow man. The way the yellow
man moves to the beat shows how
strangethe man is.
Sound Throughoutthe film the sound is a
Non – diagetic score. Then it changes
when the action movements start
when the yellow man appears over the
road. Then when the yellow man
appears the music changes to a
heartbeat to show how the yellow
man comes across to the man as he is
getting closer.
Cinematography There are different mixtures
throughoutthe film. There are short
shots, mid shots and long shots. There

are some closeshots to show the
young man face expression and the
creepy man’s expression. The camera
follows the creepy man’s movement
and then the sameon the young man’s
face as he runs away. This suggest
chaos and worry.
Performance The appearance of the yellow man
physically, the way he moves and
smiles suggests worry and fear to the
young man. The facial expression of
the young man when he sees the
yellow man and the way he relieved
when he’s going further away.
