Unit4- Pre Production
Logistics and Job Roles
Logistics:
Logistics is managing people in pre-production is the key to get the film starting to get put
together. Before the day they start filming, there must be a call sheet that is used to let the
cast know when they are needed on set for some shooting. A call sheet must be created
because there needs to be a guarantee that everyone is ready and prepared to follow the
schedule and ready to start their part of filming and being on set.
As I was the director of the video ‘’ If she only knew’’, I had to make sure everyone who was
involved had signed a contrubtion sheet and that the cast was prepared for their part in the
video and that everyone could do their call times. Whist being the director, I had to make
sure that all shots were the way I wanted them and that the cast was acting in the correct
way for the video. During the making of the video, I was working with 6 people and a dog,
therefore I had to make sure everyone was safe during the process and that no animals
were harmed during this video.
Even though, I was working with a lot of people and a dog, we managed to get all the shots
we needed in order to complete the film so I can start editing it. By completing the shooting
process, we were able to start the editing process, which I was able to reshoots any shot I
felt that needed improving and that would go in the video.
Finance:
The finance of pre-production is also planned in the budget section where all the cost for
the cast and crew are already calculated. However, this can change if any of the cast cannot
do their time calls.
Ideas Generation:
Ideas generation includes different ideas and tasks that must be completed for a production
like making a short video. This means looking at characters, what the characters are like and
the settings that may be needed. Also the producer must have a script and a storyline to go
off so the characters can start creating the story.
Visual Ideas development:
This includes the development of the production. Some examples are props, costumes,
character designs. By creating a visual idea, it is allowing the producers to make any changes
to the story line or add anything that they think would improve their ideas further or even
interest their viewers.

Unit4- Pre Production
Casting:
Casting is finding actors to play different characters in the production. The actors will play a
part of the character they wanted to play and the actors will then show the producers what
they can do. The producers will then decide which actors they think are the best fit for the
characters they want. However, as the producing goes on, the producers may decide to
bring new characters in the film.
Costume:
Costume involves the actors wearing specific clothes that would match their characters
personality. Costume designers are employed to work on set to find and create costumes
that would match the different actors to their characters. At this point, the costume
designers will then have set costumes/ wardrobes to make for the different characters that
are that recurring. The job of the costume designs are to be responsible for the way the
characters look on each episode or scene. They also must make sure that the extras are
dressed appropriately and must make sure the extras do not stand out unless they are
meant too. The costume designers will work with the hair and makeup departments about
how costume and hair will work together to make the character.
Set Design and Set Dressing:
This department will be in charge of any designs of any sets. The set designers may work
with the producers and the location teams to find out where the best locations for the sets
to work and that the characters and producers to film safely. Set designers will work to
ensure that everything appears on the cameras are corrects and also makes the scene. The
producers make sure the set work and that the characters develop well.
Props:
Props are the items that are used on set that the characters can use. Some examples of
props are keys, umbrellas and bags. Props are made by the props developers from scratch.
Construction:
The construction staff will build or adapt to the sets that the producers would like for the
set and how they would like it to look. There are some varieties of different construction
workers. These are electricians, carpenters and painters. These help to create the sets to
what the producers want and they also make sure it is a safe set for the characters.
Legal and Clearances:
Legal and clearances are making sure everything is safe and that everything is legal and by
law. The legal and clearance team will be in charge of employment and what teams are
working on different things. They will also be in charge of conducting health and safety
measures which include risk assessments.
