2. I believe that my music magazine follows most of the conventional codes that are
commonly recognised in most of the music magazines we see today. These
conventional aspects include the Mast head which is positioned in the centre at the top
of the page, which is a common thing for most magazines as it is vital for people to be
able to recognise the title and name of the magazine they are buying. As well as the
magazine title block, I also have included a date and issue number just above/within
the title block on the left hand side. This is conventional for most music magazines as
it informs the reader of how up to date the magazine is and how many issues have
been released prior to the current issue, in this case this is the first ever issue. A
conventional code my magazine kind of goes against is with its main image, despite it
being central the models are not looking directly into the camera but seem to be
engaged with something, I found this image interesting as it would interest customers
into seeing what they are up to. This is common in music magazines as the publisher
of the magazine wants you to build an instant connection with the reader in order to
help appeal to the audience to interest them into buying it. Furthermore the use of the
term ’Collectors Issue’ could also attract more customers as they would want to know
why this edition is a collectors issue. My contents page has all the common themes
found within a music magazine such as pictures with text, heading and sub headings
and so on, this is done so the reader gains ease of accessibility in finding the way
around the magazine. Furthermore my double page spread was slightly more
conventional in terms of the lay out and more specific to the theme of music, I also feel
it reached out to my target audience more as I did an interview with a young band.
However despite this, throughout the magazine I kept to the typical codes and
conventions of a music magazine as the target audience for my magazine is quite
mainstream so as well as appealing to my target audience specifically in places I
wanted to produce something that would be something conventional.
3. I also thought the image I used for my double page spread was
another way I managed to stay within the conventions. My
reasoning for this being that it is an image of a group/band looking
as though they are singing to a crowd of fans at a concert. The
picture also represents the interview that can be read on the
following page, seeing as it is with a member from this band who is
speaking about the bands progress and how they are hoping to
progress even further,
4. The target audience for my magazine is mainly teenagers, who are
interested in music such as RnB and Hip Hop, which I believe is clearly
shown from the front cover and also the layout and design of the
magazine and therefore by buying my magazine they will probably get
there moneys worth as they will be reading about what they will enjoy
reading rather than them buying a magazine where they have to find a
certain section where they will enjoy, my magazine filled with what they
will enjoy reading. The magazine will also have other focus on what go
through in their music lives and how they have managed to get to where
they are.
I have also included eye catching images throughout my magazine, such
as they image I have on the double page spread, which shows a band at
a show. I believe this image is a good one as it represents what my
magazine is about which is music , but it could also attract the reader
going through the magazine as they may be interested in seeing, who
these singers are, or what location they are in. They may also be
intrigued to see how they are getting on as a band.
The social class of my magazine has been portrayed by the band J.E.T
who are a band who are up and coming through the ranks. It includes
what they have managed to achieve so far and how much further they
hope to go. Also what he feels about there new album and how they are
hoping the release is going to go and about possible sales.
