4. TRADITIONAL CLASSIFICATION OF WORD
Semantic
( The semantic criterion presupposes the evaluation
of the generalized categorial meaning of the words
of the given part of speech.)
Formal
(The fromal criterion provides for the exposition of all
formal features of all the lexemic subsets of a
particular part of speech. )
Functional
(The functional criterion concerns the typical syntactic
functions of a part of speech. )

The words of language are divided into grammatical
classes. The traditional grammatical classes are
called ‘’parts of speech’’.

6. The notional parts of speech are the words of
complete nominative value. In the utterance they
fulfil self-dependent functions of naming and

Four main syntactic positions of notional words:

The first ,the upper layer, is formed by four classes
of notional words.
The second, intermediate layer is formed by
pronominal words.
The third, the lower layer is formed by functional
words .
