80% of UNED tutoring sessions
is delivered face-to-face in our local centers &
broadcast to other Centers

From face-to-face tutoring to synchronous tutoring by webconference

Within days, all the F2F tutoring sessions were
moved to our own webconference system
(AVIP Intecca)

peaks of 260.000 weekly connections
An increase of 350% of the service
required the support of external Computational services

UNED compulsory final exams take place over two weeks in three convocations
(ordinary in February & May; extraordinary in September).
Students of each subject take their exam same day, same hour in every Center:
About 200.000 exams in June
From face-to-face final exams (controlled by our virtual EXAM management system)
to a reinforcement of online continous assessment and final online exams through
the development of a new virtual system of examination

• The academic staff has to decide whether
reinforcement of students’ assessment was
required by adding more continuous
assessment tasks to the learning platform
• It implied to organize an institucional
calendar for more than one thousand
subjects in order to prevent that the platform
could collapse due to the submission of a
high number of assignments or the
realization of thousands of synchronous tests
from different subjects at the same time

fraudulent means.
• Verificatio: anti-plagiarism resources
(measures of lexical and semantic originality
of the answers)

interview with the student in order to
confirm the result of the evaluation

• Use of an extensive question bank (low probability of
common exams amongst students)
• Allow the use of materials (open-book exams)
• Design of exams beyond a memoristic exposure of knowledge,
whether in multiple choice questions, short questions or
longer development questions
