simple, complex, nostalgic, modern, futuristic, aggressive, seductive, persuasive, surreal,
immediacy, long term)
What was the overall message?
What types of voice/s were used in the advert? (Male/female, young/old, foreign accent,
British accent, celebrity?)
What tone of language was used? (Conversational, informative, jokey etc.)
Was there a tag line or slogan in the advert?
Modern, Humorous,Relaxed,Repetition, Simple and Persuasive. By using all of these terms
they do well to try and persuade people to eat at Nandos
The overall message of this advertisement is to try and influence or direct people to eat at
their restaurant “Nandos”. They do this well because they use the restaurant’s name
consistentlyanduse the word “Cheeky” taken from the term a “Cheeky Nandos” to attract a
more young adult audience to their restaurant. Also they sell their restaurant well because
theyuse anothertermwhichis“It’s Okay”and theyuse thisrepeatedlythroughoutthe whole
advertisement. In my opinion I think it was a good idea to do this because it kind of say’s to
the public“It’s Okay” to eat at our restaurant no matter what you look like or where you are
from in kind of a humorous and comedic way. However it is also quite racist. And this could
offendsome people but it can also sell better to people that would of found that joke quite
funny. I also think this advertisement attracts a specific ethnic group which could be both
black and white people.
The main tag line inthis Nandos advertisement was “It’s Okay” they used this tagline to talk
to the demographicgroupslistening to this Nandos advertisement. However they made the
“It’s Okay” quite informal based off of the tone and accent of the Latin American or actor
putting on an accent which will be another representation. The “It’s Okay” tag line in other
wordstellspeople “It’sOkaytogoto Nandos, nomatter whatyou looklike evenif youhave a
monobrow. The monobrowtermwasexpressed in the advert when he was talking about his
sister and despite the fact this may be slightly racist it still says it is okay to eat at Nandos.
Alsothe tone of language usedinthisadvertisquite a Jokey, informal tone of language and I
thinkthe producersof this advert did this because by using this tone they make it seem like
Nandosisquite an enjoyableplace toeattowardsyoungadults,teenagersetc.Howeveragain
it is just another representation by using this tone of language to attract a demographic
audience to their restaurant. Also it was quite an exaggerated tone of voice to make the
advertisement more humorous and to sell the restaurant a lot better to the demographic
audience.
The type of persontheyusedwas a young, male with a foreign accent, so the restaurant will
get more recognition as a Southern American restaurant. Also by using a Latin American
accent itmakesthe advertevenmore humorousbecause people mightfindthe accentfunny.
However it is just a representation and it might very well be an actor being payed that was
told to do a Latin American accent.

2. How many times was the product or company name mentioned?
Was there any contact details mentioned? (Phone number, web address etc.)
What music or sound effects were used?
What is the main purpose of the advert? (Informational, sales or special offers, promoting
a particular product)
Conclusion below:
The amount of times that the company name was mentioned is three times, by mentioning
the company name consistently it gets the name in your head and it is more than likely you
won’tforgetbecause the advertisementisbothinformal andhumorous. It also is a good idea
to mentionNandosmultipletimesbecause peoplemightnotknow whatthe advertisement is
promoting despite the fact it is only 32 seconds long. However people might also pick it is a
Nandosadvertwhentheyhearthe Spanish, Mexican music and the foreign accent and there
are many more contributing factors within this advertisement to try and hint that this is a
Nandos advertisement for people that may have just started listening.
Unfortunately there was no contact details left within the Nandos advertisement.
One of the soundeffectsthatwere usedinthiscommercial advertisementforradio;basedon
Nandos was salsa dancing music. In my opinion this is quite stereotypical because it is
referringtopart of the culture of Spainwhichissalsadancing but it also relates to the theme
of the restaurant. So therefore on the other I do think this element of the advertisement
works well. Secondly another sound effect that was used in this commercial advertisement
was a classical guitarrapidlystrummingatthe verystart of the advertisement (the first thing
you hear in the 32 second advertisement). In my opinion I think this sound effect was used
well because it catches the listener’s attention straight away by playing quite a furious,
informal sound at the start of the advertisement.
The main purpose of thisadvertisement istotry and director persuade peopleto eat Nandos
inan informal way.Andinmy opinionitworkedbecause it was very humorous and attracted
the correct demographicaudience. Sotoconclude this they did attract more people to eat at
Nandos and this was the main purpose of the advertisement so in other words they did
succeed.
3. Why do you think the advert was good or why do you think it wasn’t verygood?
To conclude all of this; I think the advert worked really well and on the other hand I think it
did attract the right target demographic audience towards there restaurant which is
teenagers and young adults. It did this because it used quite an informal and comedic voice
representation of a Latin American person’s voice. They did this because there restaurant
Nandosisa SouthernAmericanthemedrestaurant.Howeverthisisdespitethe factthat some
of things he says are slightly racist as it may offend Latin American’s etc. And this in my
opinion was quite a downfall, however it did make the advert more comedic and will of
attracted the target audience towards there restaurant. They did this because the
demographicprofile they are attracting don’t take much notice in racist jokes and just laugh
about it. So on the other hand it did work very well in there commercial advertisement.
Overall Ithink the advert worked well for multiple reasons but there were also some minor
disadvantageswhichIshortlyexplainedbefore, sotoconclude it worked well on commercial
radio and attracted the correct demographic profile or audience. And just one more thing
theywill have to choose the correct commercial radio station that attracts roughly the same
audience soitworksa lot betterandso theyhave a betterchance of directingpeople to their
restaurant Nandos.
