2. How I combined my main product with my
ancillary texts
I combined my main product with my ancillary texts by using the same colour font
and style. As a result of this it increased the verisimilitude of my work and it looks
more professional which was reflected in my feedback as most responses from the
people I asked commented on how the colour and fonts worked well on both my
main product and my ancillary texts.
Therefore this is demonstrating that by having the same colour font and style it
firstly has combined both aspects of my A2 media course and secondly its allowed my
work to target my target audience directly by using what they expect in order to
encourage them to watch my trailer. This is used as it is part of Neil’s theory of
difference/similarity as I used what was familiar to the audience in thriller trailers
so in this case the colour scheme and then I used something different so not using
explosions and action sequences but my soundtrack to build up the tension in order
to give the audience a sense of familiarity as well as a sense of something different
which is used regularly in thrillers and furthermore I used this in order to combine my
main product and my ancillary texts.
3. How effective was it?
I believe my combination of both my ancillary texts and my main
product was moderately successful although after my feedback
I needed to alter a few aspects of my main piece in order to link
more closely to the thriller genre as some of the original
soundtrack didn't build up the required tension so I altered it.
My main product and my ancillary texts worked well together
and were well- liked by my target audience when I showed them
my ancillary texts and main product via Facebook. The comments
were mostly positive and I have now used that feedback in order
to improve the combination of my main product and my ancillary
texts which has been very successful. So in conclusion the
combination of my main product and my ancillary texts was very
successful because together they work well with my target
audience and they both follow the codes and conventions of the
thriller genre very well .
