1. CONSTRUCTION OF
DIGIPAK

2. I started off with a
plain dark solid
background, this was
something that I saw to
be a very common
convention with other
album covers from the
EDM genre.

3. Also I used the same
title from the music
video to create some
continuity between the
two different texts.
I then added a border
which was another
feature which seemed
to be common with
other album covers.

4. I then used the gradient
shape tool to create a
gradient that uses the
same colours as the video.
This gave the bright and
colourful aspect to the
cover to represent the
energy of dance music.

5. I wanted the gradient to
only fill the border and
logo and not to cover the
background so I used a
clipping mask against the
logo and border layers.

6. The basis of the cover
was finished and I now
needed to create the
face portrait to put as
the key signifier of the
cover.

7. I used this still from the
video’s footage as It had a
clear side portrait of the
model and was also on a
white backdrop so was
easy to edit out.

8. Once I had cut the
model out I
desaturated the image
to take out all the
colour as I needed to
do this to make the
next step effective.

9. I needed to place some
images over the top of the
portrait whilst still being
able to see where it was so
I reduced the opacity of
the layer slightly.

10. I placed shots of the hands
from the video over the
face to cover the shape of
the entire model. I varied
the size and colour of each
hand to give the image a
more random feel.

11. I now had all the hands
in place and made
some small
adjustments to ensure
there were no big gaps.

12. I used the difference
blending mode to be able
to see the model through
the images of the hands.

13. This worked well
however the
background of the
shots were clipping
outside of the shape of
the model.

14. I used the same
technique as I did for
the gradient fill on the
logo and border by
using a clipping mask
to delete the extra
images outside the
portraits outline.

15. The colours of the hands
had been inverted when
using the difference
blending mode so I used
and image invert to
change the hands back to
normal whilst giving the
portrait and inverted look
to give a more digital and
processed aesthetic.

16. The portrait was now
ready to be moved
onto the rest of the
cover.

18. The hands looked as if
the colours were
slightly different to the
rest of the cover so I
used the same gradient
as before with a hue
blending option to
colour them the same
as the gradient.

19. The final stage was to
add a noise filter to
match the same noise
filter that I had used in
the video. This helps
create a house style
between the two forms
of media.
