Summary of
Duties:
Reports to Resident Manager and Hall Director in applicable residence hall(s), working 1-28 hours a
week at a residence hall desk carrying out various office related tasks. Responsible for greeting
residents, guests, and staff as they enter/exit the building; ensures quality customer service in the office
area; provides assistance to student and higher-level Student Life Housing staff; assists in resolving
resident and/or staff issues; ensures the office runs efficiently and effectively to provide general services
to students; ensures the front desk area—including hall lobbies and public spaces—are well-decorated
and clean to provide a home-like atmosphere; serves as a resource to provide a safe hall lobby area.

Office Assistants will learn the following transferrable skills in the position: administrative tasks,
customer service, computer skills, record keeping, inventory management (keys, mail, equipment, etc.),
maintaining confidentiality, communication, working in a diverse team, crisis management,
safety/facilities management, and providing/receiving feedback. These skills will help the students be
successful in their future careers.
Supervision and
Essential Duties:
*No supervision involved in the Office Assistant position.
60% Customer Service and Administration
- Ensure the office runs efficiently and effectively to provide general services to students (i.e.
equipment, vacuum cleaners, cleaning supplies, etc.)
- Greet residents, guests, and staff as they enter/exit the building
- Provide assistance and resource referral(s) to student and higher-level Student Life Housing staff
- Maintain effectiveandregularcommunicationwiththeHall Director,AssistantHall Director,andother
staffasappropriate
- Performtasksassociatedwithopeningandclosingtheresidencehall,maildeliveryandaccesscontrol,
includingkeys and/orkeycards
- Maintaindatabase(s)tocommunicatevitalinformationtootherstaffmembers andtheResident
Manager
- Attendandparticipateinweeklystaffmeetings
- Ensureresidencehall andfrontdesk policies areupheldbyresidents andguests
- Assists in resolving resident and/or staff issues

20% Safetyand Facilities Management
- Serve as a resource to provide a safe hall lobby area
- Follow and communicate university and building procedures in the event of emergency
situations as trained
- Contact Service2Facilities and/or enter Facilities Service Requests for broken items and/or issues in
the residence hall
- Ensure the front desk area, including hall lobbies and public spaces, are well-decorated
and clean to provide a home-like atmosphere
- Report physical and mental healthwellness concerns observed to professional staff
- Room/event set up or tear down
- Other duties as assigned
20% CommunityDevelopment
- Serve as leaders in the residencehall community as part of the residence hall staff
- Conduct business in a respectful manner to maintain a climate that supports diversity and inclusion

Requirements: Required: - Must be a residential student on an Ohio State University campus
- Enrolled as a full-time student in academic OSU coursework
- Maintain a 2.0 per semester and cumulative GPA during the selection process and
while employed. All grades are based on the University’s most recent record.
