Students are given an imaginary budget and asked to work in groups to decide how to invest the funds to benefit their neighborhood. Each group must discuss their investment choices and reasons before presenting to the class. After all groups present, the class votes on the most successful investment proposal.

Investing into your neighbourhood: Students are given an imaginary budget and try to
discuss and agree on what they should invest in to benefit their neighbourhood.

Materials needed: None
Time: 20 mins
Procedure:
1. Tell students to imagine that they are given a big budget to upgrade their
city/village/neighbourhood and they can spend as much as they want to.
2. Ask them to work in groups of 4 or 5 and decide on what they will invest the
money into and think about the reasons to defend their choices in front of the
class.
3. Go round the class and take part in their discussion to help them with some ideas
and language.
4. When the groups have finished, ask them to take turns to present their decisions.
Invite the class to comment or ask questions.
5. When all groups have presented theirs, organise a class vote for the most
successful one.
6. Announce the winner and end the class.
