2. This proforma is to record how you worked on your production
You should complete this each week during production
Consider all relevant areas that you covered that week
Think about what worked/what didn’t work/how you can improve
and actions for the following sessions/weeks
3. In the first week we started off by making a notes document, with
this document we learnt about all the basics of film making such as
Camera Movement, Camera Angles, Mise En Scene, Editing
Terminology and How to sell a story. We also learnt about our brief
that we had been assigned, the brief is for the Gone In 60 Seconds
Film Festival. For the brief we will need there to be no dialogue, I
will need a prop clock in the film, and I will have to use the phrase
“That wasn’t supposed to happen”
4. In week 2 we started to do some of the documentation for the actual
short film, such as the initial ideas and the proposal for my short film.
This consisted of making a mind map and a mood board, these
helped me pick a genre and helped me to decide which shots and
camera movements I wanted to use in my short film, it also helped
me to mind map the story of my short film.
5. During week 3 we were challenged with 2 tasks, these tasks would
test our video skills such as angles and how to use them, also what
shot type to use to portray a certain thing, also focusing the
audiences attention to a certain spot through the angle. This task also
tested how we would edit the footage to portray a clear storyline.
Then in the second task we were introduced to Foley and the art of
adding sound effects and ambient noise to a scene after the fact. The
first thing we did was a short foley task to show that we understood
what we needed to do then we tackled the actual task, a short scene
from Shaun Of The Dead, we had to create foley for things such as
ambient noise, foot steps, tripping up, a fridge door opening and
music that would be played in a shop.
6. During week 4 we spent the week planning out the short film more in
depth, this consisted pre-production documents like contingency
planning, risk assessment, information about the cast and the
location, a shot list, a storyboard and a structural breakdown of the
video. In week 4 I also booked my equipment a Canon 700d, Tripod,
Microphone, LED Light and a Shoulder Mount. These pieces of
equipment will help me to shoot the scenes for my short film. I will be
shooting my scenes on Thursday night. After shooting the scenes we
could in our time frame and bringing the equipment back into college
we found that the footage was very grainy and very dark, this means I
will have to reshoot and make the scene lighter and play with the ISO
and Shutter Speed so there is no grain and the scenes are light
enough.
7. During week 5 I spent the first day of the week catching up and doing
more production and post production documents. I then spent the
night of the first day re-shooting my scenes as when I imported the
footage it was very grainy and then when I tried to remove the grain
the footage became very unfocused. I will be reshooting with a highly
lighted scene and then in Premiere Pro I can artificially darker the
scene and turn the scene from light to an almost night-time scene as
the footage will be a lot darker.
