EVALUATION
QUESTION #03
How did your production skills developed through this
project?
• If I take a look at the first task as a media
student that I was assigned to do, I would
have to say that there have been a notable
improvement in my production skills.
• In terms of camera work, editing, lighting,
sound, research & planning and all the
technical skills acquired in constructing a
film, I believe that my knowledge and
creativity in these areas have increased
drastically.
PROJECT
PRELIMINARY TASK
FIRST ASSIGNMENT
DATE 05-OCT-2019 LOCATION SCEPTRE COLLEGE
The first time that I filmed my preliminary task, I had
little to no experience at all in these things. I only knew
the basic shots like OT, WIDE ANGLE etc.
There was no screenplay written or research and
planning.
As I didn’t have much knowledge as to how the mise-
en-scene, lighting, sound & edit should be set according
to my film, thus leading an un-planned pre-production.
In this clip, I used basic shots like mid-shots, wide shots,
over-the-shoulder and hand-held it most of the time.
I made huge blunders like my reflection on the glass
door, not giving headspace, shaky hands leading
towards a diagonal shot, Discontinuity, hid my jump
cuts through dip to black effect.
As a result, my video turned out to be of poor grade or
quality.
RESEARCH & PLANNING
After deeply analyzing my blunders done in the first film, I started extensive research on
how to produce High Quality films. Through this I have learnt man useful skills in
perfecting the art of filmmaking
On my blog, I have posted all the research that I
conducted throughout my learning process.
My research basically included opinions of different
people over social media and of the people around
me.
I chose a genre that was the most talked about and
trending on social media and researched about it in
depth so I could understand the codes and
conventions of that specific genre and frame it
perfectly in my next film.
This research also taught me how to learn and
adjust to the codes & conventions in order to cater
the needs of the audiences.

FINAL FILM
DATE 10-JAN-2020 LOCATION EXTERNAL
MISE EN SCENE:
While making my final film, I carefully set
the mise en scene that fitted right on the
chosen genre and my story. The characters
profiles were made, screenplay was
written.
Whereas, in my first I didn’t even take
notice of the surrounding and chose the
character right at that time with no
relatable costume in terms of the film. The
whole scene was improvised as there was
no script to follow through.
LIGHTING:
In my preliminary video, the lighting
somewhere was bright or either too dull
and it had to be edited to make it even.
In addition to these mistakes, I kept a close
eye on the lighting while shooting as I
wanted to have a particular scene of my
shoot in daylight and match it to my
chosen genre.
CAMERA WORK:
FINAL FILM:
The shooting techniques used were precise.
Different kinds of shots were taken from challenging
angles and the best of them were chosen for the
sequence.
I used many camera lenses but mostly, 50mm and
80mm did my main work.
PRELIMINARY TASK:
I had no shooting experience whatsoever. The shots
were simple. Mid-Shots, basic level OTS & Two Shots
were used.
I used a normal 60D camera with 18-55mm lens kit.
The camera’s setting was not set. Focus was out,
there was no proper framing.
SOUND:
In my first film, diegetic sound was there with the
complimentary background noises and distortion. I
didn’t bother adding non-diegetic sound as I was
inexperienced.
Whereas, in my final film, I used both diegetic and non-
diegetic sound. Cancelled out the distortion. Added a
suspensethriller background music to make the
experience of the audience more thrilling.
EDITING:
There were no special effects added on my first film. Basic
dip to black was added to cover jump cuts. No subtitles were
added which led to the fact that many people had trouble
watching or didn’t quite understand the story line.
Whereas, in my final film, subtitles were added so that
people around the world can watch my sequence with ease.
Color grading was done so that the theme of suspense is
showcased perfectly. Dip to black was also added to give to
the end scene so audience are left on cliffhanger.
