2. Begining of the film
- The film starts of with close ups of a classroom, this happens for 20 seconds
which sets up the scene but also leaves the audience wondering what is to
come. It is accompanied with some guitar strumming in the background, this is
does not have a happy or sad sound to it, but, instead it has a slight mystical
tone to it, for the first 20 seconds the audience is not to sure what is
happening.
- Then at 20 seconds we are hit with the voiceover by Inocente and she
declares to the audience how she is homeless. The first 20 seconds has built
up to this, which the audience were not expecting at all. This makes it very
effective
3. Middle of the film
We then come to the middle of the film. This is when Inocente talks about her
school, she talks about how she can not tell her classmates that she is homeless
because they will laugh and bully her and talk about how rich they all are. The
audience felt very bad for Inocente but now are fully emotionally engaged in the
film and are not going anywhere. This is an effective tool, to talk about her own
experiences as they are real which comes across powerfully and keeps the
audience there.
4. End of the film
The end of the film, we see Inocente take us to where she sleeps with her family.
This makes us understand and visually see her struggle, so we are now visually
understanding her pain which makes it even more emotional for the audience.
Then as we get to the last minute we see, Inocente in an interview and talks about
how she does not believe any child should live this way, yet she is. This portrays to
the audience how she still pushes through which gains the audience’s respect but
also sorrow. Then the music pics up a bit as she says “ I didn’t have a childhood’.
This is effective for two reasons, one is that it leaves the audience at the end with
the most meaningful line of the film but also that she is still 15, she should be having
her childhood now but ‘didn’t’ suggests that she thinks it is over now and has to
look after her younger brothers and sisters.
