Sarah drury music video
1. Sarah Drury Music Video (2014-2015)
They have edited the song to start
when she wakes up and suddenly
the lighting becomes brighter
which suggests that she might be
feeling better and feel like she can
overcome the problems.
The dark lighting here that they
have used is suggesting that she is
in a bad place at the moment and
the fact that she has her eyes closed
means that she doesn’t feel
welcoming and she’s not in a very
comfortable place. Her grey
clothing reinforces this gloomy
mood towards life.
There’s heart beating sound where
this scene is taking place in the hall
way of her house. This is giving us
the impression that the feelings
towards this argument are anger. I
can tell from what they are wearing
that the male has done something
to upset the girl because he is
wearing darker clothes connotation
that he is bad and devilish and the
girl is pure and innocent.
This is an interesting angle because
it’s showing just enough so we
know what she is doing but very
subtly. This is a shot I would
consider using within our music
video.
2. I thought this shot was interesting as it
also shows her surroundings being
enclosed and their being a lot of stuff
around her which may symbolise the
amount of problems and issues she has
in her relationship at the moment.
This over the shoulder shot is
clever because we see her looking
at herself but as an audience we
feel involved as much as her in the
relationship. Over the shoulder
shots are used to engage the
audience into the conversation or
activity and in this example it’s her
looking at her bruises in the mirror.
Therefore, we feel sorry for her and
create an emotional connection
with this character.
I like how they have edited the singer
and the actress over one another
even though we can see they are the
same person I think that it is effective
within the music video. This is
something which I would like to
include within my own music video
as I could blur out the girl and blur in
the boy on top of each other to show
dominance and that the girls feelings
are mixed and that she blurred
visions towards the relationship.
This low angle shot of the couple says a lot
about their relationship. The boy dressed in
white suggesting power is taking control and
ordering the girl to wash up his dirty washing.
The girl having her hands close to her in an
upwards position is suggesting that she is
scared and worried of what the boy might do
next. As a group we want to show that the boy
has dominance so using a low angle would be a
good idea.
3. This high angle shot of the singer is
suggesting that she isn’t as
important as the other actors even
though she should be. The lighting as
dimmed right down and is almost
black and white with a hint of blue
which shows her feelings towards
the situation.
As the boy takes the remote from the
girl the lyrics are ‘I can turn it on’
when the boys turns the TV onto
what he wants to watch so the lyrics
are almost coming from his point of
view now. So he hasn’t just taken
over the relationship but the lyrics
as well. This reinforces the power he
has over the girl.
As the girl tries to get closer to him
to the ending of the song he then
gets his phone out and starts texting
away to another girl about meeting.
She has no control over this and
walks away. The green of the
cushions and on the sofa suggest the
anger, spite and envy she has
towards the boy.
This part is in slow motion which
draws attention to her feelings
towards the boy and how much she
wants him back and she wants him
to want her. This is something that
we could use as group in our music
video as I think it could be really
effective towards the end and
beginning with the dancing.
