Working as a service designer on circular design projects, you’ll find that your design-skills and strategic thinking are both a great match and of great value to guide circular development. This is what Erik Roscam Abbing experienced, who is hosting this year’s DRIVE Circular Design program. Still circular development offers designers many specific challenges, and there are still gaps in our knowledge. Looking at today’s breakout sessions and presentations, Erik will reflect on what circular development specifically demands from creative professionals, and what action is needed to take circular business further. In the last 2.5 years, over 200 companies have started to create circular products, services and business models as part of the CIRCO program. This is a great opportunity to share the learning from these initiatives and discover the most common challenges faced by these entrepreneurs, and how they solved them. Pieter van Os will highlight the main insights and solutions that the companies came up with in the CIRCO workshop Tracks he facilitated. Jurnjan van den Bremer from Clear Vision Cooling will share the challenges he faced when realizing sustainable solutions in retail, with his doors for refrigeration cabinets for supermarkets made of recycled PET. Milan Meyberg will show how the actions following on the ‘revolution program’ from DGTL create the first circular festival. Together with moderator Erik the speakers will discuss their opinions on to how to speed up the development of circular products and services and to enage the role of the creative professional.
