2. Shooting Location – 25/11/14
• Today, I researched into our two potential shooting locations, of an
alleyway and an office.
• I then wrote up about each location and what is going to happen in that
particular scene.
• This task enabled me to think about potential thriller locations which we
could use in out opening. Once, collating the pictures I then discussed with
my group which locations look best and how we could link them in to our
Hit-man thriller opening.
• We have now added another scene into our opening, with the location
taking place on the common where there is an exchange of money between
the female boss and the Hit-man.
3. Production Diary - Practice Filming – 25/11/14
• Today, I wrote up a production diary for my practice filming, so that I knew
what shots I had filmed and what shots I still had to film.
• This meant that I could start editing shots already filmed, therefore putting
our potential film opening idea into practice, looking at any aspects which
don’t support our thriller genre.
4. Mood-board for our thriller opening –
26/11/14
• Today, I created a mood-board which consisted of potential actors, settings
and props we could use for inspiration while creating our own thriller film
opening.
• By doing this task it enabled us to think about what we could potentially use
in our opening and how we could potentially use the blueprints props
effectively, making sure that people know our opening is a thriller not
another genre.
• This task was very beneficial as it made us consider certain aspects of Mise-
En-Scene and made us look into certain areas in more depth, therefore
extending our existing knowledge on what we know about thrillers, for
example I learnt that lighting is key to a thriller opening and that the setting
should be inside, not outside as the lighting would be too bright outside.
5. Comparison of characters ideas - Film Opening –
26/11/14
• Today, I put together a comparison picture between typical characters
which you'd expect to find in stereotypical crime thriller movie and the kind
of characters we want to create.
• This task was very beneficial as we can now visually imagine what type of
characters we want to use in our film opening, and we can now discuss from
looking at this what ways we are going to go around making them look
effective, linking them to the thriller genre e.g. my adding in enigma in our
opening.
6. Film Opening - Shooting Schedule –
26/11/14
• Today, I create our shooting schedule which we are going to use to monitor
our progression with filming.
• This task enabled us to plan and film what scenes we wanted to focus on in
each planned lesson. By us doing this it helped us as we were able to both
film and edit our final film opening in the same lesson as we would spend
half the lesson filming and the other half editing.
7. Juno Timeline – 26/11/14
• Today, I drew a timeline consisting of the titles which occur in Juno. I have
annotated the timeline so that I know what second title occurs for, and how
long it lasts for, therefore giving me a better sense about titles and how they
are used to keep the audience interested/engaged.
• This task was very useful as it allowed me to look at titles in more detail,
therefore allowing me to think about how I could craft my own thriller titles
from looking at the ones in Juno.
• To improve upon this I could have designed my recreation of the timeline
online so that it would be clearer to read.
8. Juno Storyboard – 26/11/14
• Today, I created our Juno storyboard which consists of four images on each
page and there are seven pages.
• We decided to divide our page up into four sections so that are shots were
easier to follow when producing our re-make of the opening to Juno.
• This task enabled me to understand what order the shots were in, therefore
I knew what shots were needed in each filming lesson from looking at the
storyboard.
9. AS Level Juno Reconstruction Film and
write-up – 27/11/14
• Today, I wrote up about aspects of our reconstruction that I felt me and
group were both successful and unsuccessful when recreating it.
• By reflecting upon this it gave me a clearer understanding what is necessary
in film openings for when we try and create our own film opening.
• This task was useful as it made my analysis my own work, therefore making
me want to improve upon the errors in which we had made. Hoping to
ensure that we wouldn’t come across these if our final opening.
10. Production Diary- Juno – 28/11/14
• Today, I wrote up my production diary for Juno, and spoke about the
aspects in which we were successful in and the aspects in which we found
difficult.
• Overall, the Juno task has taught us the importance of planning and
organisation, and given us better editing skills and some experience with
effects (e.g. The cartoon effect used on the video, done on Adobe After
Effects).
11. Juno Shooting Schedule – 28/11/14
• Today, I planned our Juno shooting schedule.
• This task enabled us to plan and film what scenes we wanted to focus on in
each planned lesson. By us doing this it helped us as we were able to both
film and edit our final piece in the same lesson as we would spend half the
lesson filming and the other half editing, therefore our shooting schedule
was successful, as even on days when one of the group members were away
due to a trip/illness we were still able to carry on the filming particular
scenes using our shooting schedule as it was already planned in advance.
12. Opening Titles - The Last Of Us –
29/11/14
• Today, I analysed the film ‘The Last Of Us’ looking at the titles within the
film.
• From looking at this opening I found that - This particular opening grips
the audiences attention as they do not know what is going to happen as
there is no clear shot, setting or actors used, which is stereotypical of horror
title sequences, as they don't like to give much away.
• Overall, I would say that this task was helpful as it made me aware of how
to position my titles within my horror film.
13. Market Research - Questionnaire –
30/11/14
• Today, I conducted some primary market research in the form of 10
questionnaire, to find out what type of genre people of different ages would
like to watch most.
• My research showed that the overwhelming genre in favour was Thriller,
therefore in our group we decided to go for a thriller crime genre based on
the feedback we were given from the questionnaires. We also spoke about
displaying our titles up buildings as that also came out as the overwhelming
favourite way to present titles as the people we asked found them more
engaging and interesting to watch.
• This task helped me to consider our audience in more depth, this was
helpful as we gained some pointers about how to construct our film opening
from the feedback given to us.
