Week Beginning Work Completed
Summer Holidays
Monday 31st August I researched my chosen magazine of inspiration as well as the codes
and conventions of a music magazine.
Monday 7th September We went into more depth into the codes and conventions of a music
magazine so now I have completed slides 8-14 on my Planning and
Research PowerPoint.
I have started to complete my audience profile about the genre of my
magazine and who the target audience will be. To enable me to
complete this, we learnt about the types of theory that I need to learn
when talking about magazine target audiences. (Hartley, Maslow and
Katz)
Monday 14th September Today, I finished my audience profile with the example of someone
who would match my target audience being my older brother. In my
audience profile, I went into depth in talking about Hartley’s 7
Subjectivities, Socio-Economic Needs, Katz’ Uses & Gratifications
Theory and Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs.
Also in the week, I have produced a mind map of ideas in a
PowerPoint of potential mastheads, props, colour schemes, strapline
ideas and branding information. On top of that, I also created a mood
board of inspiration for my magazine including artists, colours, films,
fonts, clothing brands etc. Additionally, I have added more to my
planning and research and within this I have annotated the contents
page and DPS of an issue of Q magazine.
Monday 21st September I have now decided what parts of the contents page and DPS I will try
to ‘Repeat’ using the Steve Neale – 1980 theory. Also, I have created a
prop list for my photo-shoot of my magazine.
Today I have decided on my masthead of my magazine as well as the
font style. I also have created my magazine flat plan for my own
magazine.
Monday 28th September Now, I am in the process of creating my production plan, photography
plan and location recce.
Today, I began to produce a Survey Monkey questionnaire as part of
my primary research for my music magazine. Following on from this I
will need to get 10 responses from this and 10 responses from a
physical copy of the questionnaire too.
After checking any corrections I need to make, I have improved my
mood board by adding a conclusion to it so it is up to the standard it
should be.
Monday 5th October Now, I continuing on with my corrections, but I am also in the process
of planning my magazine by starting on some hand drawn drafts for
my front cover, contents page and DPS.
In today’s lesson, I have started to create a mind map for my
preliminary task of making a front cover for a school magazine.
I have now started to create my front cover for the magazine I am
producing as part of my preliminary task; I have learnt how to
download fonts from Dafont and some of the basics of Photoshop.
Monday 12th October I am still continuing on with producing my preliminary front cover on
Photoshop, I have created my masthead and barcode, and I am adding
in the website and social media links.
Now, I have successfully inserted all of the links for social media that I
will be using and the front cover has been lined out so everything is
where I want it to be.
Monday 19th October After inserting my MCU image onto the front cover of my magazine for
the preliminary task, I have touched it up around the edges to make
sure that it blends into the background of the magazine. I have also
inserted my strapline in the right place with my desired font.
Now I have completed my preliminary task magazine front cover at
the end of this week. I have used my checklist as a guideline as to what
standards it needs to meet and I have successfully been able to tick all
of the required boxes. I feel that everything is up to a good standard
from what I have completed.
Half Term
Monday 2nd November So far this week, I have started my preliminary contents page. I have
inserted the masthead and title for the contents page and I have also
outlined where everything is going to go. I have started making space
for things like my editorial and stories along with the page numbers in
which the stories will be on in the magazine.
I have now inserted my editorial along with the image of myself and
my signature. I have also typed up the titles for the stories in the
magazine.
Monday 9th November Since my last lesson, I have written up my sublines for the stories on
my preliminary contents page and I have also added my masthead
into the bottom of my preliminary magazine.
I have now added in all of my images to the preliminary contents page,
as well another social media link to the contents page and front cover.
I have now completed both my preliminary front cover and contents
page after going through the corrections for my front cover, but I need
to see if any corrections need to be made to the contents page.
I have now started my front cover of my main task music magazine.
Monday 16th November I have inserted my masthead, strapline, main cover lines, my barcode
and my puff promotion.
Now, I have added in my main image as well as creating my other
cover lines.
I have inserted a banner, which replicates my magazine of inspiration
along the top of the front cover.
Monday 23rd November This week I have made some small adjustments to my music magazine
front cover (adding social media links, changing font sizes, aligning
everything properly) in order for it to be how I want it to be.
Monday 30th November I have now started my contents page and have duplicated some layers
over from my preliminary contents page and main task front cover.
Monday 7th December Now I have added in the website link, page number, date and smaller
version of the logo at the bottom of my page. I have also inserted my
editorial photo as well as my features box to introduce the cover
stories and main stories of the magazine. I have added in a smaller
version of my main task front cover in the top right corner of my
contents page.
Monday 14th December I have finished all of my sublines for the main featured cover stories. I
have also now added in two of my images for it.
Christmas Holidays
Monday 4th January I am in the process of making corrections to all of the work I have
done so far, in order to make sure it is at a high standard to the best of
my ability.
Monday 11th January I have begun to create my double page spread in Adobe InDesign.
The interview has been inserted into three separate columns. I have
also inserted my drop capital and pull quote within the interview.
I have replicated Q magazine by inserting the artist’s name at the top
right-hand corner of the interview page.
Monday 18th January I have made the font size of my interview smaller in order to enable
me to fit the closing message at the end of it onto the page. I also made
the colour of the drop capital red to match the masthead as a form of
brand identity.
I have been continuing with the editing of my photo so that I can place
it on my DPS.
Monday 25th January Now I have inserted the full edited image as well as my pull quotes
embedded in my interview as well as next to the picture.
I have now also produced my credits to the writer and photographer
at the top of the left page, which features the image.
Now, the page is complete, I now need to receive my corrections and
alter certain conventions where need be.
Monday 1st February This week, I have been completing some corrections for my planning
and research work towards the production of my magazine. In
particular, I have been focusing on tasks such as my Production Plan
as this was the task that I had the most corrections for. Other pieces of
work such as my Mind-Map do not have a lot of corrections to do, so I
therefore don’t need to take as much time out to fix them.
Monday 8th February This week I have still been focusing on my planning and research
corrections in order to complete everything to a high standard.
Monday 15th February During this week, I have been writing up my first question for my
evaluation, which is ‘In what ways does your media product use,
develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?’
Monday 22nd February Once evaluation question 1 was complete, I sent it to my teacher in
order to receive feedback and any corrections that needed to be made,
as the deadline is Monday 22nd February.
In class, we have been preparing for our media exam for Unit G321,
and evaluation question 2 was set today, which is due in for Monday
29th February.
Monday 29th February I have completed my evaluation question 2, so I have sent it off to
receive any corrections that I have to complete. Evaluation question 3
has also been set, which is due in for Friday 4th March, so I will be
working on completing this.
I have now completed evaluation question 3, and I have sent it to be
marked, evaluation question 4 has been set, and it is due in for
Monday 7th March.
Monday 7th March Today, evaluation question 4 is due in, and I have completed it and
sent it to receive feedback and corrections.
Evaluation question 5 has been set today, and it is due in for Friday
11th March.
I have now completed evaluation question 5, which is due in today, so
I have therefore sent it to be marked. Evaluation question 6 has now
been set to be due in for Friday 18th March. We have been allowed
more time for this question as it requires a lot more detail in
comparison to some of the other questions.
Monday 14th March In class, we have been continuing with exam preparation for Unit
G321.
I have now completed evaluation question 6, and I have sent it to
receive feedback. Today, evaluation question 7 has been set, which is
the last question and it is due in for Tuesday 22nd March.
Monday 21st March I have now completed evaluation question 7 and have sent it to be
marked.
EASTER HOLIDAYS
Monday 11th April Over the Easter Holidays, I have been correcting all of my evaluation
questions that require any alteration. Once I have finished this, I will
get them checked over again so that I am able to upload them onto my
chosen technologies in order to present them.
We have been doing more exam preparation in class for the media
exam for Unit G321.
We have also been given the opportunity to make any more
corrections to our coursework; I have particularly focused on my main
task magazine pages.
I have been completing the final page layout on my blog page, which
has consisted of me uploading all of my planning and research work,
as well as my preliminary and main task magazine pages.
