An information technology project under the
Department of General and Higher
Education,Government of Kerala in India.
Launched in 2001 to foster IT education in schools.
IT@School Project is termed as the Single largest
simultaneously deployment of FOSS based ICT
education.
Headquarters in Thrivunanthapuram and it has
District Resource Centers in each district.
Current Executive Director is K.Anvar Sadath
The project remodeled teaching methodologies in
classrooms through the use of IT.
3. It is being implemented in 12,000 schools in
Kerala which follows the state syllabus.
The project provides ICT enabled education to
1.6 million students and 20,000 teachers per year
in the state of Kerala.
It endeavours to enhance the intellectual
productivity of teacher and curricular
comprehension of students .
The project enhance the role of IT as a teaching
aid for learning all subject.
4. The project is a nodal agency for all eGovernance
activities under General Education Department
Also nodal agency for implementing EDUSAT
network in the state and runs an exclusive channel
for education called VICTERS, was the first
complete Educational Channel in India.
The first breakthrough of this channel came in 2005
when IT was made compulsory subject in schools
and the channel was inaugurated by A.P.J. Abdul
Kalam on 28 July 2005 in Thiruvananthapuram.
In association with BSNL, the project has provide
Internet broad band connectivity to all high schools
in Kerala.
5. During 2007-2012, IT@School provided ICT
infrastructure to 4071 schools.
In 2016, it re-initiated the ICT intervention in
Lower Primary and Upper Primary sections,
by launching exclusive ICT Textbooks viz;
Kalipetti and e@Vidya.
As many as 1.50 lakh teachers from std 1 to
12 has been enhanced with ICT skills,
making them to teach effectively with ICT
tools.
6. IT@School amply supplemented the State
Government’s Public Education Rejuvenation
Mission with initiatives such as Samagra
Content Portal, Sampoorna School
Management software and Schoolwiki which
are later developed by KITE and SCERT.
‘Hi School Kuttikootam’ programme lauched by
IT@School under which over 1 lakh students
are provided with trainings in 5 different areas
such as Animation, Cyber Safety, Hardware,
Electronics and Malayalam computing.
7. The project also conducts specialized
training for visually challenged teachers in
the state.
It also provide Camera handling training to
the teachers.
Apart from this several educational software
such as Dr. Geo, Rasmol, K-Tech lab,
Geogebra, Chemtool, Kalzium etc are being
customized in developing teacher friendly
applications for facilitating ICT enabled
eduacation in the state.
8. The project also engaged in organising statewide
awareness campaign exposing the everyday
computer user to the possibilities and advantages.
The “Total Physical Fitness Programme” software
provides awareness on physical fitness and it
includes the fitness details of 30 lakh of students.
Some of the e-governance activities of the project
includes the noon meal distribution
computerization, youth festival software, pre-metric
scholarship online etc.
