GRADING SYSTEM
INTRODUCTION
Grading system in education is the
process of applying standardized measurements of
varying levels of achievement in a course.Grades can be
assigned as letters (for example A to F) as a range (for
example 1 to 6) as a percentage (for example 40 to 100).
G P A
G P A (grade piont average) is
calculated by taking the number of grade pionts a student
earned in a given period of time of middle school through
high school.
C G P A
C G P A (cumilative grade
point average) is a calculations of the average of all of a
students total earned points divided by the possible
number of points.This grading system calculates for all of
his or her complete education career.
WHAT IS GRADING SYSTEM?
A grading system in education is
a system that is used to assess the educational
performance of a child which is entirely based upon points
alone.
HISTORY
Yale university historian George W Pierson
writes “according to tradition the first grades issued at Yale
were given out in the year 1785,after examining 58
students,recorded in his diary that there were twenty
optimi,sixteen second optimi,twelve inferiores,ten pejores”.In
1792 it was imlimented in Cambridge university.
TYPES OF GRADING SYSTEM
There are 7 types of grading systems available
1. Percentage grading – from 0 to 100 percentag.
2. Letter grading and variations – from A to F
grade.
3. Mastery grading - grading students as master
or or passes.
4. Pass or fail – Using the common scale pass or fail.
5. Standard (or absolute standard) – Comparing students
performance to a pre-established standard of
performance.
6. Norm – referenced grading – Comparing students to
each other usually letter grades.
7. Narrative grading – Writing comments about
students.
