2. Stereotypically
Rock music is considered to be loud, angry and aggressive. Some go far to say that the singer
docent sing he shouts and that all the lyrics are dark and associated with death. Due to this
many people associate people who like this sort of music to be this way also. They are
considered to be dark, violent and rebellious. This could be why kerrang magazines focus their
house styles to dark and violent.
Another reason why dark and violent house style has been used is because the actual target
audience for kerrang are teenagers 14-21. Teenagers are considered to be rebellious so this is
properly another reason why this is the house style they use.
Finally another reason why they use this house style might be to remind the audience of the
music they like so they buy the magazine.

3. Gender
Typically, its only male characters used on the front cover off a rock magazines. This is so the
magazine comes across as more violent and rebellious because men represent this better then
women.
Perhaps another reason why men are on the front cover because kerrang magazine are bought
more by women. So the women might find it more appealing to have the opposite sex on that
front cover. Notice how all the images have only me on it.

4. Age
Kerrang target audience are teenagers because of this they are going to want there magazine o
connote youth. An example of this is that they will only use sans serif font because it connotes
youth and they will only use informal language to connote youth.
Another reason why they target a younger audience is because rock artists are typically young
and in there mid 20s. Rock music is generalised as young people music since it was first
introduced.

5. Example 1
This image in particular has been
designed to be more approachable
and friendly because they are
advertising a concert where the
winner meets these people. Yet still
the image is dark and the artists are
all wearing black t-shirts. This proves
that even when the image is designed
to be friendly its still continues with
this dark house style

again all men, however, the

be for a female as the body
is sleek and small.
This in a similar way
connotes the audience to
be young also the writing is
informal and in sans serif
backing up my earlier point.

6. Example 2
This example is abetter one, the
artist is wearing black make up
and clothes, the picture has
been taken like this so the man
comes across as aggressive.
They have a man has been used
also to be more aggressive. The
front cover uses language such
as WTF which is slang language
which young people use.
