2. Profiling
This is Jared, he is a typical audience member I have
created (on paint). He likes the more popular punk and
more modern rock and metal. He adores ACDC and
Mindless self indulgence. He loves colourful clothing
and his favourite colour is either purple or green, he
will always pair his colourful top with his black skinny
jeans and green/red Mohawk. When Jared comes
home from college he watches kerrang on TV, but he
feels there isn't enough punk bands on there so he
wont buy the magazine. As a 16 year old he find comic
books as a good way to pass the time- he also loves the
colours comic book creators use. He wishes there was
a magazine that also caters to punk music as well as
rock and metal. He would be an ideal SKULLZ
consumer. Except he doesn’t get on with his parents..
He might have to ask for the subscription for
Christmas.. Or get a job..

3. GENDER
Instantly you can tell my magazine is targeting
males as the house style is strong bold texts
and red/green/black colouring as
stereotypically punks are assosiated with
these colours. The image is also a large give
away as the model is male and is acting like a
typical teenage boy with an attitude. My title
‘Skullz’ is also very masculine as skulls connote
to dark subjects like war and death- this is
know for being a quite masculine.
4. AGE
You can tell my audience is teenagers as I have enough text in my articles to require a
target age of people who read for leisure and yet there is still an element of fun with
the images and the drawings on the side banner.
You can also see that in the pictures the models
are the same age as the target audience and they
are having fun. This promotes a fun lively
atmosphere to the audience.
5. COLOUR
When looking at the house style I wanted for
my magazine I did a survey on the colours most
preferred within the punk genre. Green and
red came up as the best colours to use. I paired
these with black and white and made sure I
kept to these colours.
6. FONT
I used a range of fonts in my work to make the
magazine look more interesting. I used bold
and striking fonts as I felt it made words look
more defined and masculine (like my male
target audience would prefer).
7. WORD CHOICE
PUNS
I used a ‘play on words’ for my front cover title. This will attract the
audience as humour is less serious and more fun- which is what my
target audience would look for.
8. Comparison to RMA
How a band is represented
My image (left) has a similar set up to the rock sound issue on bring me the horizon, as
the bands are laid out in a formed line. On terms of mes en scene, neither band have a
complex location or additional props. Both backgrounds are basic, but mine is man
made. Both pictures have been edited mildly- changing exposure and colour balance to
make them look more defined. Rock sound have tried to highlight the bands ‘image’ as
metal artists- cropping and framing the image so you can see the style of clothes they
have and their tattoo’s, this is well displayed by the camera shot of choice (long shot). I
have tried to emphasise the faces and expressions of my band as the medium close up I
have used shows the attitude of each member.
