2. AGE
I have decided to make the age of my target audience range from 13-17,
this is because I found when researching about the teen pop genre,
teens that like pop music tend to range from 10-19 years old according
to Wikipedia. From this secondary data I decided to keep within this
range but be more precise and particular. I know from my own first
hand knowledge (though asking people in my sixth form) many 17 year
olds are very mixed on pop music some either love or hate it. Because
of this I thought my max age I target is 17. I decided to choose 13-17
as pop music is universal and appeals largely to younger teens. I didn't
start targeting from below 13 as I wanted my magazine to be seen as
cool, trendy rather then childish and many people under 18 try to act
more mature and grown up then what they are. There is no limit or
minimum age the people can read this pop magazine as pop has such
a large following but the aesthetic of the magazine would most likely
attract 13-17 year olds.
3. GENDER
The use of more feminine and a larger pop following from females may
mean my magazine may attract more females then males. This is
because girls like to listen to female pop artist and admire them as
role models, their beauty and work. And for male pop artist, girls like
their music and males tend to have a sex appeal.
Whereas boys succumb to peer pressure - for example Justin Bieber
was hardly liked my other males. Because of the large hatred, if a
boy liked one of Bieber’s songs the male most likely wouldn't have
admitted it due to being scared of what peers would think.
This means boys may not want to read extravaganza due to it being
seen as girly. I tried to use mixed colour scheme and both boys and
girls on the front cover, which would hopefully appeal to both
genders.
4. ETHNICITY
I think my magazine would appeal largely to an English, American and
European audience. Because of this I included prices for all three of
these places. I also did this as America and England has the largest
following for pop music as well as lots of the fans being European. These
places are often where large music award shows are held. E.g.; MTV
EMA awards alternate places in Europe, Brit awards are in London and
larger music award shows such as the Grammys are in Los Angles.
Because of this I think my magazine would do well internationally, appealing
to a wider audience rather than just a local demographic.
