Evaluation Post 3
1. What kind of media institution might distribute your media
product and why?
Evaluation Post 3 - Ariyen Ahmed
2. Why have you chosen your production logo?
We chose this to be our production logo due to its eye catching appeal to it.
It has blood dripping down, covering most of the frame, with black silhouettes
of people with knives behind. This makes it clear to the audience that this is
a horror film production as it contains the conventions that would be included
in a typical horror/thriller film.
3. What is a production company? What do they do?
A production company develops and physically produces the film. They are in
charge of the pre production such as the marketing, scripting, casting etc. A
production company is also responsible for the actors health and well being.
They are also in charge of finding directors and fixing the locations.
4. What is the job of a film distributor?
The role of a film distributor is to essentially
act as the middleman, an intermediary between the
film producer and the exhibitor. They have 3 main
priorities as a distributor which are: finance,
promotion and bookings. The finance can involve
selecting the film, acquiring the rights from the
producers and financing the advertisement. The
promotion can involve choosing the release date
of the film and sending material to exhibitors
through trailers and posters. The bookings can
involve negotiating with exhibitors on how, where
and when the film will be viewed.
5. Which film distribution would you choose for you
film and why? What other films have they distributed
that are similar to your's?
We have decided to use Dimension films as our film distributor. This is
because they are experienced in distributing highly notable horror films such
as the Scream movies and others. Therefore, they will be tailored in
advertising and promoting our film as they are well experienced in the
practise of doing so. Thus, attracting a larger audience for our film.
6. How would your film be funded? lottery?
We would be grateful if our film were to be funded by the National Lottery UK
Film Council. It would provide us with full creative freedom with the
production of our film, without the distress of financial problems which the
company could easily alleviate for us. They are able to invest over £26
million lottery funds each year to support film developments within the UK.
Helping many filmmakers struggling with raising funds. The company was
established in 2000 under the previous Labour government to support filmmakers
who can't afford to budget their films.
7. Purpose of titles, presentation of titles
The purpose of the titles is to note who did what in the production of the
films. This is a convention of film openings and allows credit to be given
where appropriate. In our film opening the titles fade in and out during the
scenes. They are in bold so the audience can easily read it.However, they are
situated in places that do not distract the viewer from the actual scenes of
the opening and only last for a few seconds.
8. What films have influenced you from the industry
and why?
We have based our film opening from many notable horror films in the industry.
One of the major ones being the Scream franchise. It has helped us gain an
understanding of what is seen in a typical horror film and how to do them
correctly. We felt that we could emulate the suspense and tension that is
built in those films into our opening which would be very appealing to the
younger audience that we are tailoring to.
