A production company is responsible for developing, producing, and distributing new media projects like films, television programs, and more. They oversee all aspects of a project from its conception through completion. For a small student production company like SSL Production, funding for projects comes from sources like grants and profits from previous films. Small independent companies have a harder time distributing and marketing their films widely compared to large established studios. However, a company like Optimum Releasing that distributes similar small, British productions could help a student film like SSL Production's "The Night Before" reach a wider audience.

2. What does a production company do? A production company is a company responsible for the development and physical production of new media, performing arts, film, radio or a television program. Also, a production company is responsible for supervising the filming from concept to completion, and they hold the sole legal and financial responsibility of the movie as a whole. Producers are the main players in the television, film and video industries. The initial idea for a project often comes from a producer, who will oversee each project from conception to completion and may also be involved in the marketing and distribution processes. They will then have their final say on the final product.

3. Our production name and roles of companies! As our group, our production name was called the SSL production. Just simply because it was easy to remember , it was catchy and also it was the initial of each of mine and the two other members in the groups first name. Our production name was very different to the big production companies everybody has heard of such as ‘Warner Bros’ or ‘Hollywood Pictures’ as these sorts of companies are very famous and have produced many big famous films such as ‘The sixth sense’ ‘The Lord of the Rings’ and ‘Free Willy.’ If our company was a big distributing company, we would then change our name to something more professional. Our production company is a small British company, where we basically had to produce everything ourselves, for example: we had to plan a story, then gather our materials then film the story and then finally edit our scenes to make it a good opening sequence.

4. To produce a film such as ours, some funding would be required. There are a variety of different ways and offers that are available. To do this, you can go to the UK Film council where it is helped funded by the Lottery can help small film companies such as SSL to start a film going. If the company SSL has already produced films before and has done well being sold with profit, then profit from previous films can go to the help of films being made in the future.

5. A film distributor is an independent company, a subsidiary company or occasionally an individual, which acts as the final agent between a film. In the film business, the term "distribution" refers to the marketing and circulation of movies in cinemas, and for home viewing (DVD, Video-On-Demand, Download, Television etc). There in charge of making the film go big and making sure it looks good to the general public to watch and attract people. Big companies such as ‘Columbia’ ‘Fox Film LTD.’ ‘Paramount Pictures UK’ and ‘ Universal Pictures UK’ obviously attract more people when advertising the different films on the television as they are popular choices with the public and have advertised big hit films before therefore the public know that the next film they are going to advertise is going to be good. However if SSL Production company tried to distribute a film, it wouldn’t sell as much simply because of the popularity of the production company. As the film ‘Silent Witness’ was a thriller small based production, the director and creator Nigel McCrery, would be perfect to produce a film with SSL.

6. In our production, we put in 5 titles, this included the title of the name of the actual film(The Night before), the production company(SSL) and the names of the 3 actresses/actors. As the film starts to begin, the name of the first actress appears as she is lying down on the bridge which is Saliah Idris. As she is the main character in the film, it is best to put her name first as it sets off the film. If our film was actually going to be released, we would have real famous actors acting out parts as this would entice people to carry on watching the film.

7. ‘ Exhibit A’, ‘Dead Mans Shoes’ and ‘Silent Witness’ are all different films which associate with ‘The Night before’ this is because they are all made by a British small production company which is the type of distributor that can help the film we have made. This is ‘Optinum Releasing.’ with this companies help, it might make our company successful.
