Info-graphic:
Put your info-graphic design work here.
My info graphic was fairly solid up until I had to add information onto it
because the design I really like and it wasn’t overly crowded but then when I
added the information at the start it looked alright as I had molded it to the
main design but then I got a little self conscious and decided to add pictures
that related to the information such as the Samsung was there to show that the
mobile design industry would grow and the main bits of software logos to show
that you needed to be proficient with them and then there was the money and
the graph and as seem as it looked as if I had left some free space which I filled
in with some grime shapes to be honest it could have looked nice if I had
layered more on top of each other and the last thing is the color scheme of
which at the time was pretty good to me but I think it should have had a
different background because the blue is kind of jarring and looks ugly.
Client research:
Put your client research here.
Things to consider:
Who is your client, what do they make, how do they advertise their products?
John R Nicolson chairman of A.G. Barr who own and make the drink Irn Bru, they have mainly advertised through the use
of Tv ads however they have also used ads on bill boards at the side of the road, on trucks , radio and at the start they had
a lot of ads in the news papers however now the ones that you will see if any are on TV, radio and there a quite a lot of
the advertisements in the in the underground in Scotland other wise they are all on Youtube or on the internet they seem
to upload tons of them however be careful as there are many different Photoshop versions of the advertisements.
More information on A.G. Barr it is run by an executive board of 10 people their names being
• John R Nicolson – Chairman Julie A Barr – Company Secretary
• Roger A White – Chief Executive
• Stuart Lorimer – Finance Director A.G. Barr was founded in 1875 it was a person named Robert Barr
• Jonathan D Kemp – Commercial Director who founded the company in Falkirk they then made a new business

original Martin A Griffiths – Non-Executive Director recipe was iron brew in 1901.

Client research:
Put your client research here.
Things to consider:
Remember the key things we looked at earlier in the project such as narrative, lines of appeal and persuasion.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UkdEL57BmM4
It has a linear narrative and Anti-realist story line.
They use their usual slogan being – Don’t be a can’t. Be a can
It uses a Luxurious lifestyle to appeal to the audience and comedy and humour
It also appeals to the audience by using referent powers which is to say that the message associated with the product fits
into the reader's value system.
It also uses reward power which means that the product offers some sort of positive benefit.
Client research:
Put your client research here.
Things to consider:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sj2z5WbsWMM
It has a sequential storyline which is anti-realist
It uses comedy and humour to appeal to the audience as that is what they usually use to get to their customers
They also use to an extent dreams and fantasy with the going invisible learning a new language and being able to speak to
animals.
They also use a very small amount of nature and the natural world
The advert also seems to use reward power which means the product has some sort of positive benefit.
Client research:
Put your client research here.
This piece uses a comedy and humour aspect as it uses
play on words for the dogs who are girls.
This advert also uses happy families to show how well
he and his dogs get on well together.
This advert also uses rich luxurious lifestyles to try and
entice people to buy the drink.
To a very slight extent it also uses childhood nostalgia.
Client research:
Put your client research here.
This advert uses childhood nostalgia to entice
people to buy the drink.
It also uses happy families as you would tend
to think of Grandma being one of the kinder
people in the family.
It also uses comedy and humour as it uses the
joke older people like to use, I’ll give you a
snog usually would make people do whatever
they are asking them to do.
This piece also uses coercive power to sell the
product which means that the product is
presented with a punishment/ something bad
happening.
Client research:
Put your client research here.
All the adverts tend to use a sense of humour and comedy to try and persuade the audience to buy their products as well
as doing this they also go for a shock factor however they don’t go for an offensive sort of stance when it comes down to
this they also tend to use a luxurious lifestyle to draw people in because they make it look and feel as if the life of the
main character greatly improves after drinking the soft drink. It uses a reward system more than not as well the main
version of this I keep finding is reward power which means that using said product has some sort of positive benefit.
In quite a few of the examples shown and some other adverts which include childhood nostalgia which in quite a few of
the cases involve naivety or some kind of happy memory. To an extent they also used happy families however this was
only used very limited times and this goes to show that it is not a strong selling point when it comes down to sales and it
is probably been overused by other companies such as coca cola and pepsi and thus they probably wanted to go in a
opposite direction to everyone else's advertisements as then it would be more unique to the others. They also use to an
extent Dream and fantasy which I have only found once in the adverts that I saw but it still made itself stand out in the
way that they used it.
Market research:
Put your market research here.
Things to consider:
What market is your client part of, who is their competition?
Coca Cola is a light fizzy drink company who is competing against Iron Brew which is quite a large competition as most of
the UK has a preference towards coca cola where-as Iron Brew has more of a preference with in Scotland however when
it comes down to the adverts of the two companies, the irn bru adverts usually use a sense of comedy and humour, they
also uses a luxurious life style to entice people to buy their products and example of one of the Irn Bru adverts is
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sj2z5WbsWMM
The coca cola adverts however uses happy families to show that it helps people to get along and in this example shows
this quite well as it shows that the old guy will only share the coke if the young guy gave the older guy an accepted friend
request and to an extent a rich luxurious lifestyle and the video example is here.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8xCqmYbXH9w
Market research:
Put your market research here.
Things to consider:
What market is your client part of, who is their competition?
Irn Bru In an old 1986 advert uses a childhood nostalgia sort of mentality of sweeping some rubbish under the carpet, it
also uses a sort of dream and fantasy of the child being able to lift the foot path to sweep all the leaves underneath it , it
also uses luxurious lifestyle to an extent showing off the naivety of the child going off to play football instead of finishing
his sweeping job and sweeping the leaves underneath the foot path, it also shows a sense of comedy showing an aspect
of childhood life that is way too funny for some reason. Here is the URL for the video.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7_Rc_Q6wNCg
Coca Cola in an old 1979 advert which uses Happy families in the way that they work to a mutual goal of making each
other happy, it also uses elite people such as the main character of the advert being “mean” Joe Greene an American
football star, it also uses to an extent self-importance- pride from Joe Greene giving away his towel to a child fan which
could also bring up some sort of childhood nostalgia, the product promises some sort of positive benefit. Here is the URL
for the video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xffOCZYX6F8
Market research:
Put your market research here.
Things to consider:
The main competitors up against Irn Bru are Coca Cola, Pepsi, DR. Pepper, Mountain Dew, Sprite and Fanta. The largest of
which is coca cola then in order is the amount of competition is up against Irn Bru. As Irn Bru sells most in Scotland and
only some bits of profit are made outside of the country where-as all the other brands seem to be making a profit
everywhere they go in the world Irn Bru seems to be a bit more about Scotland than anywhere else as their
advertisements usually comprise of things pick and mixed from Scottish culture. As I said their main sales are made in
Scotland however there second largest customers are England ( especially in the North East ) and then Wales there was no
information on other countries such as Ireland or America.
Irn Bru on June the 19th bad weather had struck the Irn Bru makers and as a result sales have declined. In Cumberland
sales were expected to drop by 2.9% which just about relates to £125 million and thus this would put them further
towards the back of the market of soft drinks.
Audience research:
Put your audience research here.
Information you found on this audience from secondary sources.
The secondary information I found came from YouGov Profiles which seems to make it out that my Primary audience
consists of 25-39 year old males who seem to have a lower social grade and they are mainly from central Scotland,
Northern Scotland and the North East of England. Apparently the politics are mainly leaning towards the left of politics.
The main professions are engineering, law and Civil Service.
Who usually has about £125 to £499 to spare for every month.
Their favourite movies list among Watchmen, Mad Max, Akira, Braveheart and Iron Man.
Their favourite movies list amongst R.E.M., Funeral For A Friend and Johnny Cash.
Favourite celebrities are Kevin Bridges, Karen Gillan and Frankie Boyle.
Then there is Irn Bru’s Four A’s Analysis which consists of Rejecters,
Accepters, Adopters and Adorers, which doesn’t really make sense
because on is an R.
Audience research:
Put your audience research here.
Information you found on this audience from primary sources.
All the people who were interviewed said that they liked fizzy soft drinks
They also predominantly agreed that they all bought fizzy soft drinks for the taste of them the amount of answers I got
that say this are around about 5 out of the 7 who answered.
The age of the people taking the survey were mainly under 18.
Also most of the people who have answered my survey are male
Shown by the graph.
Most people answered my survey said that they drank
soft drinks every day shown by these results.
Audience research:
Put your audience research here.
The results of any primary research you conducted about this brand.
For question 6 I asked what is everyone's favourite soft drink 3 out of the seven people answered something along the
lines of coca cola and the other answers are completely different ranging from Fanta to Lemonade.
For question7 I asked if they liked the Irn Bru colour scheme and if they didn’t what would they change it to most people
said that they liked it being 8 out of 9 responses however the person who said they didn’t like it wouldn’t say what they
would change it to.
For question 8 I asked what did they think of Irn Bru’s adverts and how they could improve on them, most of them said
that they enjoyed the adverts because of comedic side of them however no one could really say how they could improve
as one response said they just have a good formula and should stick with it.
For question 9 I asked did the people like Irn Bru the majority of the answers came out saying yes however it was close
shown by the results graph.
As the final question I asked which celebrity would they like
to see as the face of Irn Bru the most interesting answers
were John Clease and David Tennent.

Script – Draft 1;
Two men walk into a pub and up to a bar. (A barman can be seen cleaning a glass with a cloth.)
Man One: “Alright mate. Can I have two Irn-Brus”
The man hand him a (Scottish) note and the man takes it – exchanging the money with Irn-Bru.
The two men take a sip of the soft drink – the camera panning into their face, their eye’s lighting up, the men taking up a heavily done Scottish accent, whilst “Five Hundred Miles” is playing in the background.
Man Two: “Aye.”
Man One: “Do you feel that Willy?”
Man Two: “Aye.”
The second man clenches his fist and shakes them – now done up with a new brave heart look.
The camera pans to the toilet door as a tale pokes out – Nessy/The Lochness Monster.
A third man walk into the bar, the two men then aggressively turn around to the third member.
Man Three: “Alright lads?”
Man One: “You’d have a lot of balls turning up here ya bawbag!”
Man Two:”Aye!”
Slamming an Irn-Bru into his chest, forcing him to drink in.
Man One: “Drink it!”
He sips it gingerly – feeling the pressure.
Man One: “Now then, how do you feel?”
His change being slow before peeking up suddenly.
Man Three: “Aye! I’d be feeling absolutely brilliant Willy!”
He clenches his fist and bares his teeth.
Bar Tender: “Excuse me?”
He interrupts.
Man One: “What’d be?”
Bar Tender: “Sorry, we don’t take this.”
He hands back the Scottish money -
Man One: “Now that’d be legal tinder!”
He smacks the bar.

Email:
Dear sir/madam,
I am emailing on behalf of myself and production group from York College, studying level 3 media.
We are intending to film short advert for a filming project (for college use only) and are looking for a premises which includes a bar.
We are interested in the Black Horse Inn and we require your permission.
Please respond as soon as possible so that we can arrange dates and times.
Due to this being a college production are unable to offer any money to put towards using the premises.
Many thanks for your time and consideration, we look forward to hearing back from you.
Sincerely,
Andrew Downes.
Planning:
Planning is really important. Planning your work thoroughly before you start will give you the
best chance of success.
Planning lets you work things out before you go in to production.
In the industry, production is the really expensive bit so it’s better to plan well and then
spend as little time in production as you can.
Overall:
Production schedule. You all need to work out when you will create each piece of work.
You have 1 week of production time.
You have to films your TV advert in a specific slot.
• X1 – week 1
• X2 – week 2
• X3 – week 3
• X4 – week 4
You need 2 weeks for your advergame. You need to work on same timetable as the other people in
your group.
TV Ad:
• Group info – inc. roles/jobs/responsibilities
• Visual planning – storyboard, shot list, any concept boards/mood boards
• Organisational planning – schedule, resources required [info on cast, crew, equipment,
locations, props, etc], contingency plan, Call Sheets
• Production – 30 seconds maximum TV advert. Shared footage but edited individually
Planning Docs done (TV Advert):
Use the Irn Bru Project UAL 2017 presentation to see the planning requirements. Include all the required planning.
You may need to copy this slide several times, so you can fit all the work on here.
My original idea that would take too long as it would include
creating characters and then a script and then finding music to fit
and I would also have draw everything that was happening
which I would have done if I had had enough time.

  • 6. Info-graphic: Put your info-graphic design work here. My info graphic was fairly solid up until I had to add information onto it because the design I really like and it wasn’t overly crowded but then when I added the information at the start it looked alright as I had molded it to the main design but then I got a little self conscious and decided to add pictures that related to the information such as the Samsung was there to show that the mobile design industry would grow and the main bits of software logos to show that you needed to be proficient with them and then there was the money and the graph and as seem as it looked as if I had left some free space which I filled in with some grime shapes to be honest it could have looked nice if I had layered more on top of each other and the last thing is the color scheme of which at the time was pretty good to me but I think it should have had a different background because the blue is kind of jarring and looks ugly.
  • 7. Client research: Put your client research here. Things to consider: Who is your client, what do they make, how do they advertise their products? John R Nicolson chairman of A.G. Barr who own and make the drink Irn Bru, they have mainly advertised through the use of Tv ads however they have also used ads on bill boards at the side of the road, on trucks , radio and at the start they had a lot of ads in the news papers however now the ones that you will see if any are on TV, radio and there a quite a lot of the advertisements in the in the underground in Scotland other wise they are all on Youtube or on the internet they seem to upload tons of them however be careful as there are many different Photoshop versions of the advertisements. More information on A.G. Barr it is run by an executive board of 10 people their names being • John R Nicolson – Chairman Julie A Barr – Company Secretary • Roger A White – Chief Executive • Stuart Lorimer – Finance Director A.G. Barr was founded in 1875 it was a person named Robert Barr • Jonathan D Kemp – Commercial Director who founded the company in Falkirk they then made a new business • Andrew L Memmott – Supply Chain Director centre in 1887 which was located in Glasgow and their first original Martin A Griffiths – Non-Executive Director recipe was iron brew in 1901. • Pamela Powell – Non-Executive Director • W Robin G Barr - Non-Executive Director • David J Ritchie - Non-Executive Director
  • 8. Client research: Put your client research here. Things to consider: Remember the key things we looked at earlier in the project such as narrative, lines of appeal and persuasion. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UkdEL57BmM4 It has a linear narrative and Anti-realist story line. They use their usual slogan being – Don’t be a can’t. Be a can It uses a Luxurious lifestyle to appeal to the audience and comedy and humour It also appeals to the audience by using referent powers which is to say that the message associated with the product fits into the reader's value system. It also uses reward power which means that the product offers some sort of positive benefit.
  • 9. Client research: Put your client research here. Things to consider: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sj2z5WbsWMM It has a sequential storyline which is anti-realist It uses comedy and humour to appeal to the audience as that is what they usually use to get to their customers They also use to an extent dreams and fantasy with the going invisible learning a new language and being able to speak to animals. They also use a very small amount of nature and the natural world The advert also seems to use reward power which means the product has some sort of positive benefit.
  • 10. Client research: Put your client research here. This piece uses a comedy and humour aspect as it uses play on words for the dogs who are girls. This advert also uses happy families to show how well he and his dogs get on well together. This advert also uses rich luxurious lifestyles to try and entice people to buy the drink. To a very slight extent it also uses childhood nostalgia.
  • 11. Client research: Put your client research here. This advert uses childhood nostalgia to entice people to buy the drink. It also uses happy families as you would tend to think of Grandma being one of the kinder people in the family. It also uses comedy and humour as it uses the joke older people like to use, I’ll give you a snog usually would make people do whatever they are asking them to do. This piece also uses coercive power to sell the product which means that the product is presented with a punishment/ something bad happening.
  • 12. Client research: Put your client research here. All the adverts tend to use a sense of humour and comedy to try and persuade the audience to buy their products as well as doing this they also go for a shock factor however they don’t go for an offensive sort of stance when it comes down to this they also tend to use a luxurious lifestyle to draw people in because they make it look and feel as if the life of the main character greatly improves after drinking the soft drink. It uses a reward system more than not as well the main version of this I keep finding is reward power which means that using said product has some sort of positive benefit. In quite a few of the examples shown and some other adverts which include childhood nostalgia which in quite a few of the cases involve naivety or some kind of happy memory. To an extent they also used happy families however this was only used very limited times and this goes to show that it is not a strong selling point when it comes down to sales and it is probably been overused by other companies such as coca cola and pepsi and thus they probably wanted to go in a opposite direction to everyone else's advertisements as then it would be more unique to the others. They also use to an extent Dream and fantasy which I have only found once in the adverts that I saw but it still made itself stand out in the way that they used it.
  • 13. Market research: Put your market research here. Things to consider: What market is your client part of, who is their competition? Coca Cola is a light fizzy drink company who is competing against Iron Brew which is quite a large competition as most of the UK has a preference towards coca cola where-as Iron Brew has more of a preference with in Scotland however when it comes down to the adverts of the two companies, the irn bru adverts usually use a sense of comedy and humour, they also uses a luxurious life style to entice people to buy their products and example of one of the Irn Bru adverts is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sj2z5WbsWMM The coca cola adverts however uses happy families to show that it helps people to get along and in this example shows this quite well as it shows that the old guy will only share the coke if the young guy gave the older guy an accepted friend request and to an extent a rich luxurious lifestyle and the video example is here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8xCqmYbXH9w
  • 14. Market research: Put your market research here. Things to consider: What market is your client part of, who is their competition? Irn Bru In an old 1986 advert uses a childhood nostalgia sort of mentality of sweeping some rubbish under the carpet, it also uses a sort of dream and fantasy of the child being able to lift the foot path to sweep all the leaves underneath it , it also uses luxurious lifestyle to an extent showing off the naivety of the child going off to play football instead of finishing his sweeping job and sweeping the leaves underneath the foot path, it also shows a sense of comedy showing an aspect of childhood life that is way too funny for some reason. Here is the URL for the video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7_Rc_Q6wNCg Coca Cola in an old 1979 advert which uses Happy families in the way that they work to a mutual goal of making each other happy, it also uses elite people such as the main character of the advert being “mean” Joe Greene an American football star, it also uses to an extent self-importance- pride from Joe Greene giving away his towel to a child fan which could also bring up some sort of childhood nostalgia, the product promises some sort of positive benefit. Here is the URL for the video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xffOCZYX6F8
  • 15. Market research: Put your market research here. Things to consider: The main competitors up against Irn Bru are Coca Cola, Pepsi, DR. Pepper, Mountain Dew, Sprite and Fanta. The largest of which is coca cola then in order is the amount of competition is up against Irn Bru. As Irn Bru sells most in Scotland and only some bits of profit are made outside of the country where-as all the other brands seem to be making a profit everywhere they go in the world Irn Bru seems to be a bit more about Scotland than anywhere else as their advertisements usually comprise of things pick and mixed from Scottish culture. As I said their main sales are made in Scotland however there second largest customers are England ( especially in the North East ) and then Wales there was no information on other countries such as Ireland or America. Irn Bru on June the 19th bad weather had struck the Irn Bru makers and as a result sales have declined. In Cumberland sales were expected to drop by 2.9% which just about relates to £125 million and thus this would put them further towards the back of the market of soft drinks.
  • 16. Audience research: Put your audience research here. Information you found on this audience from secondary sources. The secondary information I found came from YouGov Profiles which seems to make it out that my Primary audience consists of 25-39 year old males who seem to have a lower social grade and they are mainly from central Scotland, Northern Scotland and the North East of England. Then there is Irn Bru’s Four A’s Analysis which consists of Rejecters, Accepters, Adopters and Adorers, which doesn’t really make sense because on is an R.
  • 17. Audience research: Put your audience research here. Information you found on this audience from primary sources. All the people who were interviewed said that they liked fizzy soft drinks They also predominantly agreed that they all bought fizzy soft drinks for the taste of them the amount of answers I got that say this are around about 5 out of the 7 who answered. The age of the people taking the survey were mainly under 18. Also most of the people who have answered my survey are male Shown by the graph. Most people answered my survey said that they drank soft drinks every day shown by these results.
  • 18. Audience research: Put your audience research here. The results of any primary research you conducted about this brand. For question 6 I asked what is everyone's favourite soft drink 3 out of the seven people answered something along the lines of coca cola and the other answers are completely different ranging from Fanta to Lemonade. For question7 I asked if they liked the Irn Bru colour scheme and if they didn’t what would they change it to most people said that they liked it being 8 out of 9 responses however the person who said they didn’t like it wouldn’t say what they would change it to. For question 8 I asked what did they think of Irn Bru’s adverts and how they could improve on them, most of them said that they enjoyed the adverts because of comedic side of them however no one could really say how they could improve as one response said they just have a good formula and should stick with it. For question 9 I asked did the people like Irn Bru the majority of the answers came out saying yes however it was close shown by the results graph. As the final question I asked which celebrity would they like to see as the face of Irn Bru the most interesting answers were John Clease and David Tennent.

  • 23. Group idea Script – Draft 1; Two men walk into a pub and up to a bar. (A barman can be seen cleaning a glass with a cloth.) Man One: “Alright mate. Can I have two Irn-Brus” The man hand him a (Scottish) note and the man takes it – exchanging the money with Irn-Bru. The two men take a sip of the soft drink – the camera panning into their face, their eye’s lighting up, the men taking up a heavily done Scottish accent, whilst “Five Hundred Miles” is playing in the background. Man Two: “Aye.” Man One: “Do you feel that Willy?” Man Two: “Aye.” The second man clenches his fist and shakes them – now done up with a new brave heart look. The camera pans to the toilet door as a tale pokes out – Nessy/The Lochness Monster. A third man walk into the bar, the two men then aggressively turn around to the third member. Man Three: “Alright lads?” Man One: “You’d have a lot of balls turning up here ya bawbag!” Man Two:”Aye!” Slamming an Irn-Bru into his chest, forcing him to drink in. Man One: “Drink it!” He sips it gingerly – feeling the pressure. Man One: “Now then, how do you feel?” His change being slow before peeking up suddenly. Man Three: “Aye! I’d be feeling absolutely brilliant Willy!” He clenches his fist and bares his teeth. Bar Tender: “Excuse me?” He interrupts. Man One: “What’d be?” Bar Tender: “Sorry, we don’t take this.” He hands back the Scottish money - Man One: “Now that’d be legal tinder!” He smacks the bar.

We are intending to film short advert for a filming project (for college use only) and are looking for a premises which includes a bar. We are interested in the Black Horse Inn and we require your permission. Please respond as soon as possible so that we can arrange dates and times. • 25. Planning: Planning is really important. Planning your work thoroughly before you start will give you the best chance of success. Planning lets you work things out before you go in to production. In the industry, production is the really expensive bit so it’s better to plan well and then spend as little time in production as you can.
  • 26. Overall: Production schedule. You all need to work out when you will create each piece of work. You have 1 week of production time. You have to films your TV advert in a specific slot. • X1 – week 1 • X2 – week 2 • X3 – week 3 • X4 – week 4 You need 2 weeks for your advergame. You need to work on same timetable as the other people in your group.
  • 27. TV Ad: • Group info – inc. roles/jobs/responsibilities • Visual planning – storyboard, shot list, any concept boards/mood boards • Organisational planning – schedule, resources required [info on cast, crew, equipment, locations, props, etc], contingency plan, Call Sheets • Production – 30 seconds maximum TV advert. Shared footage but edited individually
  • 28. Planning Docs done (TV Advert): Use the Irn Bru Project UAL 2017 presentation to see the planning requirements. Include all the required planning. You may need to copy this slide several times, so you can fit all the work on here. My original idea that would take too long as it would include creating characters and then a script and then finding music to fit and I would also have draw everything that was happening which I would have done if I had had enough time.
