Tenkanashi was shrouded by the darkness of the shadows around the corner
from his target with the cloaked man getting closer and closer Tenkanashi drew
his blade and readied himself for his onslaught against the cloaked man and his
protectors who surrounded him. All the cloaked man saw was a quick flash from
the corner of his eyes and then he felt a searing pain pulsing through his hand as
he looked down, he was a limb short. With a shadowy figure trying to thin down
the ranks of his protectors turning out to be Tenkanashi. The cloaked man starts
to fumble for a trinket he attached to a necklace. The man eventually found what
he was rummaging for at the end of his necklace unluckily for him though
Tenkanashi just finished dealing with the cloaked man’ extra protection that was
now bearing down on the man. When Tenkanashi finally reached the cloaked
man, he was surprised to see what he was holding out, it was a Yokai (demon)
stone, which has the potential to make the user into a demon of sorts with
devastating power. Tenkanashi was so taken aback by this revelation that a
blinding purple light started to emanate from the stone. (Put in Tenkanashi’
back-story). The purple light kept growing and growing until it reached the size
of what a house would be and then stopped and a shadow emerged from the
light an ogre (A massive man shaped demon with massive muscles/ technically a
giant) unfortunately all he could see was the ogres outline. Tenkanashi decides
to beat a hasty tactical retreat, as he starts to run the ogre slowly starts to rip up
blocks from the pavement and hurls them in Tenkanashi’ general direction as the
ogre is still recovering from the bright light.
Tenkanashi passed some unfortunate passers-by as he was running away,
unfortunately for them their heads turned into puddles and what used to be their
heads turned into blocks of cement as their corpses were flung to the ground
with high speed and a loud thud and crack. This gave the ogre a laughing fit as for
Tenkanashi it gave him a panic attack and he forced himself to run faster.
Tenkanashi ran faster and faster until he reached a sort of courtyard with
massive arching frames, detailed masonry work on the floor and lots of topiary.
Tenkanashi put two and two together and figured out where he was standing. He
was inside the Lords premises. Suddenly a masked figure dressed in all black
started to approach him. When the figure drew closer it was visible it was more
than one person all armed to the teeth. Tenkanashi knew he didn’t have enough
time to get into a scrap as he was still being chased by the ogre. Tenkanashi
heard the fast and loud stomps of the ogre growing near. Instead of running
Tenkanashi only stood still and started to laugh wearing a demonic smile while
he did so. As he knew he would be cornered soon by both the ogre and the lords’
assassins.
However it actually turns out that the team of assassins was led by an old friend
however he refused to show off his identity keeping his mask firmly attached to
his face and starts to put the assassins to work setting up defensive positions
around the court yard. Just as soon as the assassins were all set and ready to
defend the courtyard, there were already screams and flying bodies within a few
seconds of the ogre arriving. The ogre tore through the assassins in a matter of
minutes and that just left Tenkanashi and his supposed assassin friend. The ogre
was all juiced up after killing about 36 different assassins and it only angered the
ogre more that none of the people he killed were in charge or even special
however though this did make the ogre more careful. As it had realised that
these two were kind of like generals when it came down to both importance and
skill in battle.
With the ogre’ awareness raised it was difficult for Tenkanashi to get a read on
the ogre and what its next attack would be. In the end they had a stare down
until the ogre made the first move. This made it quick and easy for Tenkanashi to
completely evade the massive blow. The ogres fist hit the ground directly behind
him however and sent a massive shock wave through the floor and sent him
flying. This created the perfect opportunity for the leader of the assassins to get a
few shots in critically injuring the ogre slicing off one of its arms and making
severe lacerations to the ogres’ chest. This meant that the ogre was bleeding
quickly, and it was going to die soon however with its last breath it hit the leader
of the assassins.
Which had damaged the leaders mask at least enough to see some of the more
defining features of his face. Unfortunately, the breaking of the ceramic face
mask somehow managed to bounce back into the man’ face and cut his forehead.
The cut bled into his eyes making it difficult for him to see anything. Tenkanashi
after recovering from the vicious feedback from the ogre’s punch and he saw
who it was that was leading the assassins. It was Zenkishi (enter back story).
Tenkanashi knew exactly what he had to do for his old friend and started to hack
and slash away at the Ogre until it collapsed dead with its face hitting the ground
with a colossal thud.
After their brief encounter Zenkishi thanks Tenkanashi and leaves quickly
without saying anything further even though Tenkanashi asked him to stay and
talk to him about what he was doing since he had last seen him, as he knew that
Zenkishi had changed a lot as a person. As Zenkishi walked away he started to
run as if he was being chased by some sort of monstrosity. This came as a
surprise to Tenkanashi and thus he decided to follow Zenkishi out of a worry as
to what he could be running away from and also to see if he actually needed to
help with defeating whatever it was that was chasing him.
He eventually caught up with Zenkishi in a mountain village far from any other
city or civilization as it was rumoured that this mountain village deserted for
close to a century and people only ever make their way through the village if
they were going on a pilgrimage to the holy site on the other side of the
mountains. So, the place was decrepit and falling apart at the seams and it was a
bit weird that of all places that he caught up to Zenkishi here as if he wanted it to
happen. Almost as if he needed help or was injured by something or someone.
That got Tenkanashi thinking about what Zenkishi could need help with and
suddenly it hit him that it was the thing he was running away from back at the
lord’s mansion in the city.
Tenkanashi found Zenkishi but they didn’t exchange words for a while as they
just stared Zenkishi out of annoyance that he was followed by one of his friends
when he didn’t want him to and Tenkanashi because of two things one was he
felt his trust has been betrayed by his friend for running of without even talking
to him and the other reason was because he was worried for Zenkishi as he was
covered in cuts and bruises. After a while passes Tenkanashi starts to talk to
Zenkishi out of worry and starts to ask questions about what was chasing him
why he was running away and Zenkishi didn’t answer for a while until his
temper was raised and he said that he was being chased by demons.
As it turns out Zenkishi got on the wrong side of a general who he had been
working for but then he tried to murder to murder said general and failed the
general tried normal tricks but then when they ran out he turned to the yokai for
help and they lent him an army filled with demons for captains and the undead
to fill up the ranks. Tenkanashi couldn’t even have comprehended how
dangerous what it was that is chasing Zenkishi. Then Zenkishi mentioned why he
was up in the abandoned mountains it was to try and put back together the crew
that they both used to work in they called themselves the ghost unit of the
military.
Now they are down to two demons in the army as Tenkanashi and Zenkishi
killed the ogre and this made the other two enraged at the outcome of their first
battle where the ogre grew over zealous and went on his own to hunt Zenkishi
leaving his horde behind with the other two demons and they sent a messenger
to Zenkishi to laud their power over him and so he ran to bide his time until it
was time to strike again. Therefore, he was searching for the priest that used to
be a part of their unit as priests were the only people who could defeat the yokai
with relative ease. However, they would have to reach the holy site on the other
side of the mountains.
He was sure that there would be an issue as he saw smoke rising from the same
area the holy site is at, but he was waiting for Tenkanashi because it could be
incredibly dangerous if he went alone. Especially if he went in search for yet
another ghost so Tenkanashi agreed to help his friend out of a tough situation
but by doing this he also put himself at major risk. He then found himself
marching down the other side of the mountain with his long-lost friend Zenkishi
on the search for his priest friend called Maou (insert Maou back story here).
Maou was a massive part of the team back when they were ghosts and they
started to reminisce.
When they had eventually reached the holy site, it was deep into the night and
Tenkanashi could easily see the flames dancing atop the buildings and you could
also see two legions of undead marching about in court yards and corridors. This
meant that the two demons were involved with this plan and that they must be
down there instructing their hordes of undead. This perplexed Tenkanashi and
his friend Zenkishi, as to why they would attack this out of the way holy site
unless they knew exactly where Zenkishi would run to for help with the yokai
and their world and then again how would they know this information unless
they could read minds.
The two decided to do some secretive exploring of the area whilst trying to
remain undetected and they found the corpses of the priests and their friend
once called Maou was there as well, which the yokai turned into undead to add
more to their numbers of undead legions. This gives the two friends a certain
bloodlust to find who was responsible for killing their friend and then turning
him into a walking corpse. So, they go on a rampage killing all the undead until
one of the yokai captains appeared. He was a Tengu yokai an almost
mythological yokai rarely ever seen in the mortal plain.
The Tengu yokai started to mock the pair and their recently deceased friend
making the corpse dance around them to mock them further. This inevitably
enraged Zenkishi as he was good friends back in another time. Zenkishi lost it
and forgot the first rule of battle wait for the enemy to take their turn first and
then react. Instead he decided to launch an onslaught towards the Tengu yokai
on his own which didn’t succeed as Zenkishi had planned as the Tengu dodged
every slice of Zenkishi’ sword. The Tengu started to laugh to himself but Zenkishi
still having a fit of rage ended up slicing the Tengu’ torso.
Yet it left no mark on the yokai instead Zenkishi yelled out in pain and a red stain
starts to flood through his clothes. Zenkishi was paralyzed by the pain of his own
blow this left the killing of this yokai to Tenkanashi. This should have been an
impossible task as all blows the yokai receives are reflected onto the person
trying to damage the Tengu. According to old legends there was one way of
killing a Tengu yokai which most people wrote of as being a myth. However, it
was worth a try the trick was to kill the yokai with a single blow which meant
Tenkanashi had to be both fast and deadly with his strikes.
After Tenkanashi circled the Tengu yokai he found how he was going to kill the
yokai in a single shot. There were some rocks and boulders being held up by a
piece of rope. To mask what he was thinking he continued to circle the Tengu
yokai until it slipped into Tenkanashi’ trap. Tenkanashi went to slice the rope
with his sharp blade but he ended up hitting nothing. There was a sharp pain
around his mid-section it felt as if something sharp had just lodged itself into
Tenkanashi’ stomach.
To Tenkanashi’ surprise when he turned around to look at where the sharp
object was coming from. It was coming from where Zenkishi was lying. He was
no longer there, and a dark shadowy figure took his place. It turned out that he
probably never even saw Zenkishi and instead he saw this shape shifting
shadow. Whilst squirming in pain he starts to yell at the yokai and the shadowy
figure. Proclaiming he would kill them all assuming that his friend Zenkishi was
long dead by their hands. Yet he couldn’t do much with a skewer through his
stomach. Also, the yokai were starting to retreat and so there was no chance for
Tenkanashi to get up and start killing yokai in the shape that he was in.
Unfortunately, Tenkanashi was then left in a remote area with no one around.
The yokai had decimated the holy site and all its inhabitants. His only choice was
to make it through the bustling forest and try to make it through to the other side
where there was a village. However first he would have to forge his way through
the forest filled with boars, snakes and bears. So, he decided to get closer to the
forest he was bleeding quite quickly so he would have to get through the forest
quickly. To make sure he didn’t bleed out.
Tenkanashi went into the forest with some degree of speed as he still had a hole
in his stomach with blood pouring out of it. He made it to about mid-way through
the forest and he started to feel his wounds getting worse. Then everything got
worse as Tenkanashi started to encounter some of the more dangerous wildlife
in the forest. Which he knew he would either evade or kill some of the wildlife
otherwise they would notice him and take more chunks out of him. So, he tried to
stay down wind of all the animals he found to make it harder for them to notice
him. When the wildlife had noticed him though he had to kill them both silently
and quickly.
By the time Tenkanashi had reached the edge of the forest he collapsed through
both loss of blood and exhaustion. Luckily enough for him a travelling merchant
happened to come across his body at the side of the road which was right next to
the forest. When Tenkanashi next woke up he was inside of a large room with a
cloth over his head. When he stood up, he went to look in a mirror and was
shocked to see a metal plate covering the massive hole left in his stomach. He ran
out into a long hallway to try and find someone, but he found lots and lots of
rooms filled with patients.
He eventually found a doctor who led him to the travelling merchant who stayed
in the same village until he saw Tenkanashi was better and the hole had healed
over. Tenkanashi after having a short conversation with the travelling merchant
to thank him, he then set about trying to find a priest to send him to the yokai
realm. Luckily enough the yokai didn’t do a search of the close area to the holy
site leaving the priest in nearby cities and villages alive. This meant that
Tenkanashi had a chance at getting his revenge on the yokai who stole his past
away from him.
So, he set out to find the priest of the village and asked him to send him to the
yokai realm. The priest protested saying it was too dangerous and that he should
train until he was yet again strong enough to defeat a yokai. Even though
Tenkanashi retorted by telling the priest his story he knew that he had to train to
become stronger. Thus, he trained for the next fort night to gain the approval of
the priest. He went back to the priest to ask again who saw that he had been
training and decided to give Tenkanashi, a test to see how his training went and
how he had developed as a warrior because of the training.
His test was to defeat an ogre on his own without help and the priest would
summon it and bind it so he couldn’t damage anyone but Tenkanashi. Instead of
running this time he stood against the monstrous yokai and started to hack and
slash at the beast it still got a few shots off but none of them hit their mark. So
Tenkanashi was able to defeat it with ease because he was no longer scared of
the massive size of the yokai after meeting so many. The upside of this was that
he had earned the respect of the priest and the priest would allow him to travel
to the yokai realm if he still wished to continue his quest for revenge.
The priest however said that he would have to rest before entering the yokai
realm and whenever he encounters a yokai in the other realm he would have to
retreat to his own realm. This annoyed Tenkanashi but he reluctantly agreed
without asking questions. He came back to the priest the next day and asked the
priest to send him to the yokai realm. The priest opened a portal which
Tenkanashi jumped through. After a gruelling trip through the portal he felt
awful being sick every few moments. After he got used to the feeling of the yokai
realm he got to work trying to hunt down the captains of the same army he met
at the holy site.
He stalked around the yokai realm until he found a small yokai talking to another
about the captains laughing and joking about the encounter they had with
Tenkanashi. Tenkanashi lost it and killed the two quickly and quietly but took
note of where they said to find the two captains. They were to be found in tavern
in the yokai realm. With a little bit of exploring he found out where the tavern
was and entered quietly to not gain any unwanted attention. Also, by doing this it
gave him a chance to scout out the tavern to find where the yokai captains were.
He eventually found out where the captains were residing it was in a private
room in the back of the tavern. He decided to try and kill the shadow yokai that
could shape shift, as there was no way of killing the Tengu in a single shot inside
of the room. So, he pulled out some Holy water that the priest gave to him and
covered his blade with it. This will bring immense pain to any yokai that
encounter the water. So Tenkanashi entered the room silently and snuck up
behind the shadow yokai and slit its throat from behind. Unfortunately for
Tenkanashi it died very quickly because he wanted to make them both feel
immense pain and suffering.
This didn’t matter too much at the time to Tenkanashi though because he was
quickly transported back to the human realm by the priest. This annoyed
Tenkanashi as he was so close to achieving his revenge against the two yokai at
least now there was only one yokai left. He also taunted the yokai into following
him, so he was expecting to have a final battle against the yokai in the human
realm. Tenkanashi explained what had happened to the priest with every little
detail. This scared the priest that Tenkanashi had taunted the yokai into a battle
on the human plain of existence. The priest was even more scared by the fact at
how the human realm could become the second yokai realm if Tenkanashi’
revenge is not fulfilled.
So, the priest and Tenkanashi start to clear out the civilians from the village after
they had successfully cleared out the inhabitants, they set about setting up
defences for the village for extra added protection. Creating barricades and traps
for the unwary yokai underlings of the Tengu yokai. After setting up all the traps
and barricades they waited and waited for the yokai. They had waited for a
whole month and the army of yokai had finally arrived. They bashed their shields
as they marched to create a marching beat and a threatening sound to boot. This
woke up the two of them even though they were on opposite ends of the
compound they created by reinforcing the village.
The priest and Tenkanashi quickly ran to the side of the compound which was
being attacked by the yokai armies. Suddenly, the loud noises stop and so do the
armies. They stopped at the barricades awaiting orders from the Tengu yokai.
The Tengu yokai decided to walk to the front of his army to laud over Tenkanashi
how much power he holds. It didn’t work and Tenkanashi retorted with a threat
saying if you want me come and get me. This enraged the Tengu yokai but what
the Tengu yokai didn’t know is that multiple traps revolved around crushing the
opponent. This would kill the Tengu without dealing any damage to Tenkanashi
as he wouldn’t be dealing the damage himself.
The Tengu yokai then went on a dialogue about how much he enjoyed killing
both of Tenkanashi’ friends after ending this dialogue he ordered his yokai to
attack the defensible village. The smaller yokai which filled in the ranks couldn’t
knock down the barricades, so they needed to wait for the Tengu yokai. So, the
Tengu yokai knocks down the barricades but the cannon fodder yokai end up
falling into all the spike traps. They are still alive, but they cannot move from the
pit that they fell into.
So Tenkanashi will have to skilfully avoid the pits and somehow make his way
through the remainder of the horde of undead yokai and then find the Tengu
yokai and it will all be over. His revenge would have been attained and he would
be able to rest easy. Before that could happen though he still needed to dodge all
the traps, kill or sneak past the rest of the undead and the last objective would be
to kill the Tengu yokai. Tenkanashi could also call for help from the priest
standing on the roof tops to give support in the way of bombardment throwing
bombs and casting spells.
So Tenkanashi starts to run through the hordes of undead hacking and slashing
at all who got in his way. Severed limbs were flying everywhere. He decided that
the best way to find the Tengu yokai would be to look around the barricades as
the Tengu was now the only one who could break them down in his army. After
running into two or three dead ends, he finally found the Tengu yokai at the
fourth entrance to the compound. He could be easily spotted as he was the tallest
out of the group and probably the brawniest as well. However now Tenkanashi
had a different problem he had to lure the Tengu into one of the traps which
wouldn’t have been easy.
Unless he wasn’t so susceptible to taunts however Tenkanashi knew that this
had worked once before so he used it again and it worked. However, this time it
was different like he was extraordinarily annoyed and the Tengu yokai shot off
on a berserker streak. Killing everything in his path his own men and some
unfortunate wildlife but mainly he was damaging buildings and knocking them
over. Making the village more of a ruin than it already was when Tenkanashi and
the priest made it into a compound to defend against and trap the yokai in.
Whilst the Tengu was having this fit of rage Tenkanashi found it easy to lead the
Tengu like he did the ogre but this time he was prepared with a trap unlike when
he led the ogre through the city. Filled with confidence in his plan Tenkanashi
took off in the direction of the village centre where the largest and tallest
building resided. Tenkanashi’ plan was to bring the Tengu yokai right to the
summit of the building and then bring it down on the Tengu yokai’ skull, But
first of all he had to run through the village and kill the rest of the undead whilst
being chased by the Tengu yokai.
At speed Tenkanashi fought through the hordes of the undead forging his way
towards the town centre. Whilst fighting through the low level yokai he had to
evade bits of rubble thrown by the Tengu yokai. When he arrived at the village
centre, he was faced with yet another daunting task. Said task being to try and
get the Tengu yokai to stand underneath the building. This meant he would
either corner the Tengu yokai there or he would have to trick it into standing
there.
Tenkanashi stopped just in front of the tall building waiting for the Tengu yokai
to catch up to him so they could really start fighting. When the Tengu yokai
caught up it tried to slam into Tenkanashi with its shoulder, which Tenkanashi
swiftly evaded. This sent the Tengu yokai spiralling out of control in the direction
of the village centre building. The building was set to fall if anything large
careered into it or if someone cut the supports Tenkanashi left just in case the
first option didn’t work.
When the ogre hit the building at such a high velocity there wasn’t much chance
that the building was going to survive. So Tenkanashi decided to quickly just in
case cut all the supports out and so the building fell on top of the Tengu yokai.
When Tenkanashi saw the rubble, he was about to walk away when he heard the
rubble moving and then the Tengu yokai resurfaced. It was practically dead
already, but it still wanted to kill Tenkanashi so with its last breath it took one
last swing at his head, which Tenkanashi only just evaded it through luck it
happened with such speed and intensity. Then it quickly collapsed and then
disappeared like all yokai do after their second death.
Tenkanashi back story:
Tenkanashi was once in a regular band of mercenaries going from conflict to
conflict working for the highest bidder, he fought with distinction wherever he
went and before long he became a legend in the mercenary line of work. Making
his work incredibly dangerous. He came up with a plan which was to say in the
next battle, he would request to go in alone to show off his prowess to everyone
watching, including the generals of the army he was fighting for. When the night
fell on his next mission he snuck into the enemy camp.
Whilst Tenkanashi was inside the camp he poisoned the water and waited but
when no one was drinking the water he took a more direct approach. He slit
their throats whilst the enemies were sleeping. They had no chance because he
stuck to the shadows and was incredibly quiet and brutal with his attacks. With
all of this he was successful in his mission to kill of the entire enemy camp except
for one person who he had left for last. The enemy’ general was the last person
left in the camp alive. Tenkanashi was given specific orders for the general. To
take him alive by any means necessary.
Tenkanashi snuck into the general’ tent with rope in hand he closed the distance
between the two and quickly slipped the rope around his feet and then his hands.
Then he tightened the rope waking the general in a fit of rage. Tenkanashi
walked out of the camp with the general slumped over his shoulder. He walked
up to the camp where he had left his band of mercenaries and dumped the
general at the feet of the friendly general. Of course, this pleased the friendly
general greatly and the enemy general less so.
Considering the skills Tenkanashi showed the general made him an offer to join
the army and have the most elite rank and join the most elite squad. Of course,
Tenkanashi had agreed because it was his plan all along to join the army. In all
honesty it did make his life a bit easier there were less attempts on his life, and
he was also paid way more than when he was a mercenary. His life became easy
and he met new friends such as Zenkishi and Maou but there were others in his
squad, but they didn’t really talk to each other as they usually all went on
separate missions.
Then came a time when they were at piece and this elite group was no longer
needed and it was disbanded for good. With nowhere to go he became a
wanderer and he scoured Japan looking for work. He never belonged wherever
he went and remained wandering all over Japan in search of something. Even he
doesn’t know what he is searching for and yet he keeps walking.
Zenkishi back story:
Zenkishi who was in the same squad as Tenkanashi. He was always in the
military trying to climb the ranks. What made this even more difficult is that he
was trying climb the ranks of the military by being a ninja. This is incredibly
difficult because he is technically in the secret service of the military. So, no one
knows what he does except for his superiors making it quite difficult to get
promotions. Eventually though he climbed the ranks and reached the same rank
and squad as Tenkanashi.
As a group they rarely went on missions together however they would spend all
their free time together. Tenkanashi would talk to Zenkishi often trying to learn
about his past and his missions but Zenkishi would always tell him nothing. As
all Tenkanashi needed to know about him were the missions they went on
together. They went on about 30 to 40 different mission together that varied in
importance and size. One of these many missions was to destroy a political
opponent of the current leader of the nation.
They started their mission by looking for any secrets they could find on this
politician for example the smuggling of weapons to their enemies under the
cover of night, or divulging the military and state secrets to their enemies so they
would know exactly where to go, to hurt the nation the most. Which coincidently
the politician was doing both things to try and gain power in the enemies’ court.
Then he also planned the assassination of the emperor then he would become
the leader and then he would draft a peace treaty where the enemy would get
more out of it.
So Zenkishi after finding all the evidence that indicated that the politician was
doing these dirty acts, he immediately ran and delivered them to the emperor.
He also sent Tenkanashi to take out all the assassins before they could reach the
emperors hall. Which he succeeded his task with ease whilst Zenkishi was
running to the emperor’ side. After the emperor learned of the politician’
transgressions against he immediately drafted him for execution effective
immediately forcing Zenkishi to take the politicians head inside of the palace in
front of the emperor.
This was the last mission that both Zenkishi and Tenkanashi took part in
together and they stopped talking to each other afterwards as they were both
bound to secrecy. Soon after this last mission the squad was disbanded in peace
times and so Zenkishi re-enlisted into the army yet again as ninja. This time
though he was given a force to command filled with ninjas as a kind of protective
service for nobles who could afford it. This is how and where the two friends re
unite in the main story.
Maou back story:
Maou was originally a priest, but he was cat out of his brotherhood because he
was using some experimental magic which proved to be incredibly deadly to
everything that lives. This was not all as he started to mix potions with magic to
make violent explosives. Maou was effectively kicked out because of some ethical
misconduct whilst he was in the middle of the experiments. Whilst he was being
thrown out though he was given a choice. The first option was to leave his pride
as priest in the past and never come back. The second option was to be drafted
into the military but keep all of his respect as a priest and he would be allowed to
continue his experiments underneath the government’ supervision.
Maou was clearly dissatisfied with the options he was given but he was so close
to a breakthrough with his experiments that he had to enlist otherwise all his
hard work would have been for nothing. Maou was then sent to the emperor for
his acknowledgement that he was going to be pressed into service. He was then
forced into the priest corps, but his main job was as a sort of scientist for new
magics and explosives.
Maou took to his work with great enthusiasm as soon as he saw his own
workshop set up by orders from the emperor himself. He was doing experiments
that would make explosives large enough to kill an entire army and spells to
bring back the dead inside of this fantastic massive workshop of his. However, he
needed some of assistants and on occasion they would also need protection. As
far as the assistants were concerned there was only one that ever really stood
out the one they all nick named Priest ( yes the one in the main story towards the
end ) as he was the only member that was still part of the brother hood without
being kicked out. He was pretty much the main assistant when it came down to
the experiments with magic as he had the most magical power.
When it came down to protection it was always Zenkishi’ job however
sometimes they needed more than one person to protect everyone and their
experiments so sometimes Tenkanashi was recruited to help Zenkishi. They
were often talking to and receiving orders from Maou on what and who needed
to be protected. Quite a lot of the time the experiments were taking place outside
in live training. Whenever they would go to war with armies, they would use the
experimental magic and explosives to deal massive casualties to the opposing
side. On the occasion sometimes there would be backfires resulting in friendly
casualties and the corpses were brought back to the workshop for dissection to
see what went wrong.
One time when Tenkanashi was defending the workshop they suddenly came
under attack by enemies of the state. Tenkanashi’ job was to kill all of the
attackers by any means necessary and the secondary job was to defend all of the
experiments. There are three different attackers that are all incredibly strong
and seem to have quite a high durability surviving the deepest of cuts. It took
ages to kill them all and then having to defend all the experiments was
exhausting. He somehow succeeded in his duty even with the very slim chances
of survival.
Once there was peace there was no longer any need for the experimental priest
corps and it was also disbanded at the same time the ghost unit was disbanded.
For Maou’ work for his emperor and his country he was allowed clemency from
the brotherhood and was taken back in with open arms. If he had promised to
stop doing dangerous experiments. He was allowed however to do some
interdimensional experiments and explorations into the yokai world. This is
where the yokai armies found a way into the human realm and why it was one of
the first few targets of the yokai army.

Story

  • 1. Go to the bottom for colour key. Tenkanashi was shrouded by the darkness of the shadows around the corner from his target with the cloaked man getting closer and closer Tenkanashi drew his blade and readied himself for his onslaught against the cloaked man and his protectors who surrounded him. All the cloaked man saw was a quick flash from the corner of his eyes and then he felt a searing pain pulsing through his hand as he looked down, he was a limb short. With a shadowy figure trying to thin down the ranks of his protectors turning out to be Tenkanashi. The cloaked man starts to fumble for a trinket he attached to a necklace. The man eventually found what he was rummaging for at the end of his necklace unluckily for him though Tenkanashi just finished dealing with the cloaked man’ extra protection that was now bearing down on the man. When Tenkanashi finally reached the cloaked man, he was surprised to see what he was holding out, it was a Yokai (demon) stone, which has the potential to make the user into a demon of sorts with devastating power. Tenkanashi was so taken aback by this revelation that a blinding purple light started to emanate from the stone. (Put in Tenkanashi’ back-story). The purple light kept growing and growing until it reached the size of what a house would be and then stopped and a shadow emerged from the light an ogre (A massive man shaped demon with massive muscles/ technically a giant) unfortunately all he could see was the ogres outline. Tenkanashi decides to beat a hasty tactical retreat, as he starts to run the ogre slowly starts to rip up blocks from the pavement and hurls them in Tenkanashi’ general direction as the ogre is still recovering from the bright light. Tenkanashi passed some unfortunate passers-by as he was running away, unfortunately for them their heads turned into puddles and what used to be their heads turned into blocks of cement as their corpses were flung to the ground with high speed and a loud thud and crack. This gave the ogre a laughing fit as for Tenkanashi it gave him a panic attack and he forced himself to run faster. Tenkanashi ran faster and faster until he reached a sort of courtyard with massive arching frames, detailed masonry work on the floor and lots of topiary. Tenkanashi put two and two together and figured out where he was standing. He was inside the Lords premises. Suddenly a masked figure dressed in all black started to approach him. When the figure drew closer it was visible it was more than one person all armed to the teeth. Tenkanashi knew he didn’t have enough time to get into a scrap as he was still being chased by the ogre. Tenkanashi heard the fast and loud stomps of the ogre growing near. Instead of running Tenkanashi only stood still and started to laugh wearing a demonic smile while he did so. As he knew he would be cornered soon by both the ogre and the lords’ assassins. However it actually turns out that the team of assassins was led by an old friend however he refused to show off his identity keeping his mask firmly attached to his face and starts to put the assassins to work setting up defensive positions around the court yard. Just as soon as the assassins were all set and ready to defend the courtyard, there were already screams and flying bodies within a few seconds of the ogre arriving. The ogre tore through the assassins in a matter of minutes and that just left Tenkanashi and his supposed assassin friend. The ogre was all juiced up after killing about 36 different assassins and it only angered the
  • 2. ogre more that none of the people he killed were in charge or even special however though this did make the ogre more careful. As it had realised that these two were kind of like generals when it came down to both importance and skill in battle. With the ogre’ awareness raised it was difficult for Tenkanashi to get a read on the ogre and what its next attack would be. In the end they had a stare down until the ogre made the first move. This made it quick and easy for Tenkanashi to completely evade the massive blow. The ogres fist hit the ground directly behind him however and sent a massive shock wave through the floor and sent him flying. This created the perfect opportunity for the leader of the assassins to get a few shots in critically injuring the ogre slicing off one of its arms and making severe lacerations to the ogres’ chest. This meant that the ogre was bleeding quickly, and it was going to die soon however with its last breath it hit the leader of the assassins. Which had damaged the leaders mask at least enough to see some of the more defining features of his face. Unfortunately, the breaking of the ceramic face mask somehow managed to bounce back into the man’ face and cut his forehead. The cut bled into his eyes making it difficult for him to see anything. Tenkanashi after recovering from the vicious feedback from the ogre’s punch and he saw who it was that was leading the assassins. It was Zenkishi (enter back story). Tenkanashi knew exactly what he had to do for his old friend and started to hack and slash away at the Ogre until it collapsed dead with its face hitting the ground with a colossal thud. After their brief encounter Zenkishi thanks Tenkanashi and leaves quickly without saying anything further even though Tenkanashi asked him to stay and talk to him about what he was doing since he had last seen him, as he knew that Zenkishi had changed a lot as a person. As Zenkishi walked away he started to run as if he was being chased by some sort of monstrosity. This came as a surprise to Tenkanashi and thus he decided to follow Zenkishi out of a worry as to what he could be running away from and also to see if he actually needed to help with defeating whatever it was that was chasing him. He eventually caught up with Zenkishi in a mountain village far from any other city or civilization as it was rumoured that this mountain village deserted for close to a century and people only ever make their way through the village if they were going on a pilgrimage to the holy site on the other side of the mountains. So, the place was decrepit and falling apart at the seams and it was a bit weird that of all places that he caught up to Zenkishi here as if he wanted it to happen. Almost as if he needed help or was injured by something or someone. That got Tenkanashi thinking about what Zenkishi could need help with and suddenly it hit him that it was the thing he was running away from back at the lord’s mansion in the city. Tenkanashi found Zenkishi but they didn’t exchange words for a while as they just stared Zenkishi out of annoyance that he was followed by one of his friends when he didn’t want him to and Tenkanashi because of two things one was he
  • 3. felt his trust has been betrayed by his friend for running of without even talking to him and the other reason was because he was worried for Zenkishi as he was covered in cuts and bruises. After a while passes Tenkanashi starts to talk to Zenkishi out of worry and starts to ask questions about what was chasing him why he was running away and Zenkishi didn’t answer for a while until his temper was raised and he said that he was being chased by demons. As it turns out Zenkishi got on the wrong side of a general who he had been working for but then he tried to murder to murder said general and failed the general tried normal tricks but then when they ran out he turned to the yokai for help and they lent him an army filled with demons for captains and the undead to fill up the ranks. Tenkanashi couldn’t even have comprehended how dangerous what it was that is chasing Zenkishi. Then Zenkishi mentioned why he was up in the abandoned mountains it was to try and put back together the crew that they both used to work in they called themselves the ghost unit of the military. Now they are down to two demons in the army as Tenkanashi and Zenkishi killed the ogre and this made the other two enraged at the outcome of their first battle where the ogre grew over zealous and went on his own to hunt Zenkishi leaving his horde behind with the other two demons and they sent a messenger to Zenkishi to laud their power over him and so he ran to bide his time until it was time to strike again. Therefore, he was searching for the priest that used to be a part of their unit as priests were the only people who could defeat the yokai with relative ease. However, they would have to reach the holy site on the other side of the mountains. He was sure that there would be an issue as he saw smoke rising from the same area the holy site is at, but he was waiting for Tenkanashi because it could be incredibly dangerous if he went alone. Especially if he went in search for yet another ghost so Tenkanashi agreed to help his friend out of a tough situation but by doing this he also put himself at major risk. He then found himself marching down the other side of the mountain with his long-lost friend Zenkishi on the search for his priest friend called Maou (insert Maou back story here). Maou was a massive part of the team back when they were ghosts and they started to reminisce. When they had eventually reached the holy site, it was deep into the night and Tenkanashi could easily see the flames dancing atop the buildings and you could also see two legions of undead marching about in court yards and corridors. This meant that the two demons were involved with this plan and that they must be down there instructing their hordes of undead. This perplexed Tenkanashi and his friend Zenkishi, as to why they would attack this out of the way holy site unless they knew exactly where Zenkishi would run to for help with the yokai and their world and then again how would they know this information unless they could read minds. The two decided to do some secretive exploring of the area whilst trying to remain undetected and they found the corpses of the priests and their friend
  • 4. once called Maou was there as well, which the yokai turned into undead to add more to their numbers of undead legions. This gives the two friends a certain bloodlust to find who was responsible for killing their friend and then turning him into a walking corpse. So, they go on a rampage killing all the undead until one of the yokai captains appeared. He was a Tengu yokai an almost mythological yokai rarely ever seen in the mortal plain. The Tengu yokai started to mock the pair and their recently deceased friend making the corpse dance around them to mock them further. This inevitably enraged Zenkishi as he was good friends back in another time. Zenkishi lost it and forgot the first rule of battle wait for the enemy to take their turn first and then react. Instead he decided to launch an onslaught towards the Tengu yokai on his own which didn’t succeed as Zenkishi had planned as the Tengu dodged every slice of Zenkishi’ sword. The Tengu started to laugh to himself but Zenkishi still having a fit of rage ended up slicing the Tengu’ torso. Yet it left no mark on the yokai instead Zenkishi yelled out in pain and a red stain starts to flood through his clothes. Zenkishi was paralyzed by the pain of his own blow this left the killing of this yokai to Tenkanashi. This should have been an impossible task as all blows the yokai receives are reflected onto the person trying to damage the Tengu. According to old legends there was one way of killing a Tengu yokai which most people wrote of as being a myth. However, it was worth a try the trick was to kill the yokai with a single blow which meant Tenkanashi had to be both fast and deadly with his strikes. After Tenkanashi circled the Tengu yokai he found how he was going to kill the yokai in a single shot. There were some rocks and boulders being held up by a piece of rope. To mask what he was thinking he continued to circle the Tengu yokai until it slipped into Tenkanashi’ trap. Tenkanashi went to slice the rope with his sharp blade but he ended up hitting nothing. There was a sharp pain around his mid-section it felt as if something sharp had just lodged itself into Tenkanashi’ stomach. To Tenkanashi’ surprise when he turned around to look at where the sharp object was coming from. It was coming from where Zenkishi was lying. He was no longer there, and a dark shadowy figure took his place. It turned out that he probably never even saw Zenkishi and instead he saw this shape shifting shadow. Whilst squirming in pain he starts to yell at the yokai and the shadowy figure. Proclaiming he would kill them all assuming that his friend Zenkishi was long dead by their hands. Yet he couldn’t do much with a skewer through his stomach. Also, the yokai were starting to retreat and so there was no chance for Tenkanashi to get up and start killing yokai in the shape that he was in. Unfortunately, Tenkanashi was then left in a remote area with no one around. The yokai had decimated the holy site and all its inhabitants. His only choice was to make it through the bustling forest and try to make it through to the other side where there was a village. However first he would have to forge his way through the forest filled with boars, snakes and bears. So, he decided to get closer to the
  • 5. forest he was bleeding quite quickly so he would have to get through the forest quickly. To make sure he didn’t bleed out. Tenkanashi went into the forest with some degree of speed as he still had a hole in his stomach with blood pouring out of it. He made it to about mid-way through the forest and he started to feel his wounds getting worse. Then everything got worse as Tenkanashi started to encounter some of the more dangerous wildlife in the forest. Which he knew he would either evade or kill some of the wildlife otherwise they would notice him and take more chunks out of him. So, he tried to stay down wind of all the animals he found to make it harder for them to notice him. When the wildlife had noticed him though he had to kill them both silently and quickly. By the time Tenkanashi had reached the edge of the forest he collapsed through both loss of blood and exhaustion. Luckily enough for him a travelling merchant happened to come across his body at the side of the road which was right next to the forest. When Tenkanashi next woke up he was inside of a large room with a cloth over his head. When he stood up, he went to look in a mirror and was shocked to see a metal plate covering the massive hole left in his stomach. He ran out into a long hallway to try and find someone, but he found lots and lots of rooms filled with patients. He eventually found a doctor who led him to the travelling merchant who stayed in the same village until he saw Tenkanashi was better and the hole had healed over. Tenkanashi after having a short conversation with the travelling merchant to thank him, he then set about trying to find a priest to send him to the yokai realm. Luckily enough the yokai didn’t do a search of the close area to the holy site leaving the priest in nearby cities and villages alive. This meant that Tenkanashi had a chance at getting his revenge on the yokai who stole his past away from him. So, he set out to find the priest of the village and asked him to send him to the yokai realm. The priest protested saying it was too dangerous and that he should train until he was yet again strong enough to defeat a yokai. Even though Tenkanashi retorted by telling the priest his story he knew that he had to train to become stronger. Thus, he trained for the next fort night to gain the approval of the priest. He went back to the priest to ask again who saw that he had been training and decided to give Tenkanashi, a test to see how his training went and how he had developed as a warrior because of the training. His test was to defeat an ogre on his own without help and the priest would summon it and bind it so he couldn’t damage anyone but Tenkanashi. Instead of running this time he stood against the monstrous yokai and started to hack and slash at the beast it still got a few shots off but none of them hit their mark. So Tenkanashi was able to defeat it with ease because he was no longer scared of the massive size of the yokai after meeting so many. The upside of this was that he had earned the respect of the priest and the priest would allow him to travel to the yokai realm if he still wished to continue his quest for revenge.
  • 6. The priest however said that he would have to rest before entering the yokai realm and whenever he encounters a yokai in the other realm he would have to retreat to his own realm. This annoyed Tenkanashi but he reluctantly agreed without asking questions. He came back to the priest the next day and asked the priest to send him to the yokai realm. The priest opened a portal which Tenkanashi jumped through. After a gruelling trip through the portal he felt awful being sick every few moments. After he got used to the feeling of the yokai realm he got to work trying to hunt down the captains of the same army he met at the holy site. He stalked around the yokai realm until he found a small yokai talking to another about the captains laughing and joking about the encounter they had with Tenkanashi. Tenkanashi lost it and killed the two quickly and quietly but took note of where they said to find the two captains. They were to be found in tavern in the yokai realm. With a little bit of exploring he found out where the tavern was and entered quietly to not gain any unwanted attention. Also, by doing this it gave him a chance to scout out the tavern to find where the yokai captains were. He eventually found out where the captains were residing it was in a private room in the back of the tavern. He decided to try and kill the shadow yokai that could shape shift, as there was no way of killing the Tengu in a single shot inside of the room. So, he pulled out some Holy water that the priest gave to him and covered his blade with it. This will bring immense pain to any yokai that encounter the water. So Tenkanashi entered the room silently and snuck up behind the shadow yokai and slit its throat from behind. Unfortunately for Tenkanashi it died very quickly because he wanted to make them both feel immense pain and suffering. This didn’t matter too much at the time to Tenkanashi though because he was quickly transported back to the human realm by the priest. This annoyed Tenkanashi as he was so close to achieving his revenge against the two yokai at least now there was only one yokai left. He also taunted the yokai into following him, so he was expecting to have a final battle against the yokai in the human realm. Tenkanashi explained what had happened to the priest with every little detail. This scared the priest that Tenkanashi had taunted the yokai into a battle on the human plain of existence. The priest was even more scared by the fact at how the human realm could become the second yokai realm if Tenkanashi’ revenge is not fulfilled. So, the priest and Tenkanashi start to clear out the civilians from the village after they had successfully cleared out the inhabitants, they set about setting up defences for the village for extra added protection. Creating barricades and traps for the unwary yokai underlings of the Tengu yokai. After setting up all the traps and barricades they waited and waited for the yokai. They had waited for a whole month and the army of yokai had finally arrived. They bashed their shields as they marched to create a marching beat and a threatening sound to boot. This woke up the two of them even though they were on opposite ends of the compound they created by reinforcing the village.
  • 7. The priest and Tenkanashi quickly ran to the side of the compound which was being attacked by the yokai armies. Suddenly, the loud noises stop and so do the armies. They stopped at the barricades awaiting orders from the Tengu yokai. The Tengu yokai decided to walk to the front of his army to laud over Tenkanashi how much power he holds. It didn’t work and Tenkanashi retorted with a threat saying if you want me come and get me. This enraged the Tengu yokai but what the Tengu yokai didn’t know is that multiple traps revolved around crushing the opponent. This would kill the Tengu without dealing any damage to Tenkanashi as he wouldn’t be dealing the damage himself. The Tengu yokai then went on a dialogue about how much he enjoyed killing both of Tenkanashi’ friends after ending this dialogue he ordered his yokai to attack the defensible village. The smaller yokai which filled in the ranks couldn’t knock down the barricades, so they needed to wait for the Tengu yokai. So, the Tengu yokai knocks down the barricades but the cannon fodder yokai end up falling into all the spike traps. They are still alive, but they cannot move from the pit that they fell into. So Tenkanashi will have to skilfully avoid the pits and somehow make his way through the remainder of the horde of undead yokai and then find the Tengu yokai and it will all be over. His revenge would have been attained and he would be able to rest easy. Before that could happen though he still needed to dodge all the traps, kill or sneak past the rest of the undead and the last objective would be to kill the Tengu yokai. Tenkanashi could also call for help from the priest standing on the roof tops to give support in the way of bombardment throwing bombs and casting spells. So Tenkanashi starts to run through the hordes of undead hacking and slashing at all who got in his way. Severed limbs were flying everywhere. He decided that the best way to find the Tengu yokai would be to look around the barricades as the Tengu was now the only one who could break them down in his army. After running into two or three dead ends, he finally found the Tengu yokai at the fourth entrance to the compound. He could be easily spotted as he was the tallest out of the group and probably the brawniest as well. However now Tenkanashi had a different problem he had to lure the Tengu into one of the traps which wouldn’t have been easy. Unless he wasn’t so susceptible to taunts however Tenkanashi knew that this had worked once before so he used it again and it worked. However, this time it was different like he was extraordinarily annoyed and the Tengu yokai shot off on a berserker streak. Killing everything in his path his own men and some unfortunate wildlife but mainly he was damaging buildings and knocking them over. Making the village more of a ruin than it already was when Tenkanashi and the priest made it into a compound to defend against and trap the yokai in. Whilst the Tengu was having this fit of rage Tenkanashi found it easy to lead the Tengu like he did the ogre but this time he was prepared with a trap unlike when he led the ogre through the city. Filled with confidence in his plan Tenkanashi took off in the direction of the village centre where the largest and tallest
  • 8. building resided. Tenkanashi’ plan was to bring the Tengu yokai right to the summit of the building and then bring it down on the Tengu yokai’ skull, But first of all he had to run through the village and kill the rest of the undead whilst being chased by the Tengu yokai. At speed Tenkanashi fought through the hordes of the undead forging his way towards the town centre. Whilst fighting through the low level yokai he had to evade bits of rubble thrown by the Tengu yokai. When he arrived at the village centre, he was faced with yet another daunting task. Said task being to try and get the Tengu yokai to stand underneath the building. This meant he would either corner the Tengu yokai there or he would have to trick it into standing there. Tenkanashi stopped just in front of the tall building waiting for the Tengu yokai to catch up to him so they could really start fighting. When the Tengu yokai caught up it tried to slam into Tenkanashi with its shoulder, which Tenkanashi swiftly evaded. This sent the Tengu yokai spiralling out of control in the direction of the village centre building. The building was set to fall if anything large careered into it or if someone cut the supports Tenkanashi left just in case the first option didn’t work. When the ogre hit the building at such a high velocity there wasn’t much chance that the building was going to survive. So Tenkanashi decided to quickly just in case cut all the supports out and so the building fell on top of the Tengu yokai. When Tenkanashi saw the rubble, he was about to walk away when he heard the rubble moving and then the Tengu yokai resurfaced. It was practically dead already, but it still wanted to kill Tenkanashi so with its last breath it took one last swing at his head, which Tenkanashi only just evaded it through luck it happened with such speed and intensity. Then it quickly collapsed and then disappeared like all yokai do after their second death. Tenkanashi back story: Tenkanashi was once in a regular band of mercenaries going from conflict to conflict working for the highest bidder, he fought with distinction wherever he went and before long he became a legend in the mercenary line of work. Making his work incredibly dangerous. He came up with a plan which was to say in the next battle, he would request to go in alone to show off his prowess to everyone watching, including the generals of the army he was fighting for. When the night fell on his next mission he snuck into the enemy camp. Whilst Tenkanashi was inside the camp he poisoned the water and waited but when no one was drinking the water he took a more direct approach. He slit their throats whilst the enemies were sleeping. They had no chance because he stuck to the shadows and was incredibly quiet and brutal with his attacks. With all of this he was successful in his mission to kill of the entire enemy camp except for one person who he had left for last. The enemy’ general was the last person left in the camp alive. Tenkanashi was given specific orders for the general. To take him alive by any means necessary.
  • 9. Tenkanashi snuck into the general’ tent with rope in hand he closed the distance between the two and quickly slipped the rope around his feet and then his hands. Then he tightened the rope waking the general in a fit of rage. Tenkanashi walked out of the camp with the general slumped over his shoulder. He walked up to the camp where he had left his band of mercenaries and dumped the general at the feet of the friendly general. Of course, this pleased the friendly general greatly and the enemy general less so. Considering the skills Tenkanashi showed the general made him an offer to join the army and have the most elite rank and join the most elite squad. Of course, Tenkanashi had agreed because it was his plan all along to join the army. In all honesty it did make his life a bit easier there were less attempts on his life, and he was also paid way more than when he was a mercenary. His life became easy and he met new friends such as Zenkishi and Maou but there were others in his squad, but they didn’t really talk to each other as they usually all went on separate missions. Then came a time when they were at piece and this elite group was no longer needed and it was disbanded for good. With nowhere to go he became a wanderer and he scoured Japan looking for work. He never belonged wherever he went and remained wandering all over Japan in search of something. Even he doesn’t know what he is searching for and yet he keeps walking. Zenkishi back story: Zenkishi who was in the same squad as Tenkanashi. He was always in the military trying to climb the ranks. What made this even more difficult is that he was trying climb the ranks of the military by being a ninja. This is incredibly difficult because he is technically in the secret service of the military. So, no one knows what he does except for his superiors making it quite difficult to get promotions. Eventually though he climbed the ranks and reached the same rank and squad as Tenkanashi. As a group they rarely went on missions together however they would spend all their free time together. Tenkanashi would talk to Zenkishi often trying to learn about his past and his missions but Zenkishi would always tell him nothing. As all Tenkanashi needed to know about him were the missions they went on together. They went on about 30 to 40 different mission together that varied in importance and size. One of these many missions was to destroy a political opponent of the current leader of the nation. They started their mission by looking for any secrets they could find on this politician for example the smuggling of weapons to their enemies under the cover of night, or divulging the military and state secrets to their enemies so they would know exactly where to go, to hurt the nation the most. Which coincidently the politician was doing both things to try and gain power in the enemies’ court. Then he also planned the assassination of the emperor then he would become the leader and then he would draft a peace treaty where the enemy would get more out of it.
  • 10. So Zenkishi after finding all the evidence that indicated that the politician was doing these dirty acts, he immediately ran and delivered them to the emperor. He also sent Tenkanashi to take out all the assassins before they could reach the emperors hall. Which he succeeded his task with ease whilst Zenkishi was running to the emperor’ side. After the emperor learned of the politician’ transgressions against he immediately drafted him for execution effective immediately forcing Zenkishi to take the politicians head inside of the palace in front of the emperor. This was the last mission that both Zenkishi and Tenkanashi took part in together and they stopped talking to each other afterwards as they were both bound to secrecy. Soon after this last mission the squad was disbanded in peace times and so Zenkishi re-enlisted into the army yet again as ninja. This time though he was given a force to command filled with ninjas as a kind of protective service for nobles who could afford it. This is how and where the two friends re unite in the main story. Maou back story: Maou was originally a priest, but he was cat out of his brotherhood because he was using some experimental magic which proved to be incredibly deadly to everything that lives. This was not all as he started to mix potions with magic to make violent explosives. Maou was effectively kicked out because of some ethical misconduct whilst he was in the middle of the experiments. Whilst he was being thrown out though he was given a choice. The first option was to leave his pride as priest in the past and never come back. The second option was to be drafted into the military but keep all of his respect as a priest and he would be allowed to continue his experiments underneath the government’ supervision. Maou was clearly dissatisfied with the options he was given but he was so close to a breakthrough with his experiments that he had to enlist otherwise all his hard work would have been for nothing. Maou was then sent to the emperor for his acknowledgement that he was going to be pressed into service. He was then forced into the priest corps, but his main job was as a sort of scientist for new magics and explosives. Maou took to his work with great enthusiasm as soon as he saw his own workshop set up by orders from the emperor himself. He was doing experiments that would make explosives large enough to kill an entire army and spells to bring back the dead inside of this fantastic massive workshop of his. However, he needed some of assistants and on occasion they would also need protection. As far as the assistants were concerned there was only one that ever really stood out the one they all nick named Priest ( yes the one in the main story towards the end ) as he was the only member that was still part of the brother hood without being kicked out. He was pretty much the main assistant when it came down to the experiments with magic as he had the most magical power.
  • 11. When it came down to protection it was always Zenkishi’ job however sometimes they needed more than one person to protect everyone and their experiments so sometimes Tenkanashi was recruited to help Zenkishi. They were often talking to and receiving orders from Maou on what and who needed to be protected. Quite a lot of the time the experiments were taking place outside in live training. Whenever they would go to war with armies, they would use the experimental magic and explosives to deal massive casualties to the opposing side. On the occasion sometimes there would be backfires resulting in friendly casualties and the corpses were brought back to the workshop for dissection to see what went wrong. One time when Tenkanashi was defending the workshop they suddenly came under attack by enemies of the state. Tenkanashi’ job was to kill all of the attackers by any means necessary and the secondary job was to defend all of the experiments. There are three different attackers that are all incredibly strong and seem to have quite a high durability surviving the deepest of cuts. It took ages to kill them all and then having to defend all the experiments was exhausting. He somehow succeeded in his duty even with the very slim chances of survival. Once there was peace there was no longer any need for the experimental priest corps and it was also disbanded at the same time the ghost unit was disbanded. For Maou’ work for his emperor and his country he was allowed clemency from the brotherhood and was taken back in with open arms. If he had promised to stop doing dangerous experiments. He was allowed however to do some interdimensional experiments and explorations into the yokai world. This is where the yokai armies found a way into the human realm and why it was one of the first few targets of the yokai army.
