1. Evaluation Question 6
What have you learnt about technologies from the process of
constructing this product?
2. Technologies used:
Throughout the production of my magazine I used a variety of different
technologies to enable me to construct my final product. I used:
- Canon EOS kiss X4
- Adobe Photoshop CS6
- Microsoft Powerpoint
- Internet explorer (slide share, blogger, youtube, facebook etc.)
- Mobile phone
3. Canon EOS Kiss X4
I used the Canon EOS Kiss to take the images for my magazine. This played a major role in
the production of my magazine and the images tended to be one of the main focuses and
selling points for my focus group. The camera had a very large memory which enabled me
to take over 200 photos for my production, and you could view the image instantly after it
was taken which was very useful for me to alter things such as the aperture and ISO of the
camera as I went along, enabling me to take the best image possible.
Experimenting with the ISO:
4. PHOTOSHOP
Before being set this task, I had no experience with photoshop whatsoever. So even the basic
elements were completely new to me. To overcome this, I watched a lot of youtube tutorials and
after experimenting a lot with different tools in my preliminary task, I started to get to grips with it.
One of the most significant tutorials I used was ‘how to change the colour of a background on
photoshop’ as I took an image that I liked for my contents page, but found the background to be
very plain and boring – so after experimenting with hues and saturation I managed to achieve a
much more eye catching background, shown below:
5. POWERPOINT & SLIDESHARE
I used microsoft powerpoint to present my codes and conventions and
evaluation because I found it to be the best option to use, especially because
I’ve used it a lot before and didn’t need any tutorials to assist me.
I then used slideshare to upload my presentations to my blog. I was unsure
how to do this at first so I used a youtube tutorial to learn how to embed it.
6. The internet
The internet was used for a substantial amount of my production, particularly when researching existing media:
- I used blogger to upload my work and I found it extremely helpful, especially when I wanted to change a
Piece of work or improve it.
- Youtube was vital when constructing my production, as I used it a lot for tutorials on How to use photoshop and
blogger.
- I used facebook to not only arrange when I’d be photographing my models, but also to contact my focus group so
That I could constantly be making comparisons between my work and their needs & wants
The fact that a lot of my work was done using internet explorer made it very efficient and easy for me to change and
update different aspects of my work, which I wouldn’t of been able to do without the use of the internet.
7. CONCLUSION
Overall, technology played a major role in my work, due to me using it for
practically every aspect of the task. Without technology, my work would look
far less professional, and some aspects such as taking the images would’ve
been impossible. Furthermore, the use of the internet is how I learnt how to
use photoshop, so if some areas of technology didn’t exist, I wouldn’t of
been able to use the other areas. The use of technology has made my
magazine more professional and has impacted a lot on my work as a whole.
