The document discusses technologies learned through creating a magazine product. It summarizes learning how to use Blogger to organize research, planning, and production steps with links to YouTube and other sites. Prezi was used to present ideas in an interactive way, later uploaded to the blog. Photoshop skills were developed for the magazine cover including superimposition. Adobe InDesign was mainly used as it suited the criteria of handling multiple pages and text. Conducting a photo shoot taught skills like using different camera modes and lighting techniques.

2. BLOGGER:
• It’s an online blog publishing site - Using this site has allowed me to display multimedia work in an
organised and sensible way on an online storage space which is easily accessible. I was able to
bring together each step; research, planning and production – I could comment on each step and
my thought/ideas behind them.
• It’s also enabled me to embed links into it from YouTube and other websites such as Prezi and
Vimeo. This meant that all my relative information regarding my product was in one place. This
makes it easier to refer to each stage than on paper and in a folder.
• I learnt a lot of new skills from using blogger; including how to embed links, format posts and also
organizing posts. Learning these skills meant creating my magazine was a lot easier and quicker.
3. ONLINE:
Prezi This website enabled me to present my ideas in a different, unique way which I then later uploaded to
my blog. This is different way of presenting from a typical PowerPoint, it’s more interactive and could be
considered more aesthetically appealing.
Slideshare This is what I used to publish my PowerPoint's so that they were easily accessible from my blog.
Flipsnack This is a website I used which enabled me to present my ideas in a unique way. I then embed a link
into my blog making it easy to access.
Google Forms Before using this as a class in order to complete a terminology test I never knew it existed. I
found it was very useful for questionnaires/surveys in order to get audience feedback – they were easy to share
for my target audience to answer and the format of them was easy for my audience to answer. It enabled me to
understand what my target audience wished I would include in my PowerPoint which helped me to create my
magazine.
4. SOFTWARE:
iPhoto I’d used this software before to simply store my photos but it was the first time I
used it to organise and edit a large selection of photos. I created a contact sheet (which can
be seen on my blog) to make it a lot easier for me to condense my photos down to my
favorites. Once I had narrowed it down to my favorites I then did some simple editing, for
example altering the contrast levels and sharpening them making some aspects of the
images more defined.
5. PRODUCTION:
Photoshop I had previously used this software when I was doing my media coursework for GCSE which
meant I had some basic Photoshop skills. For the creation of my music magazine I used this program for my
front cover as it was the easiest and most effective for short line of information, headlines as well as images
and banners. A typical convention of music magazine is to use a medium/close up shot of the featured artist
which is another reason I decided to use Photoshop for this page as it would require some further editing also.
I did also develop my Photoshop skills; for example I learnt about superimposition which is an editing
technique where the artists head covers part of the masthead.
Adobe InDesign This is the main program I used when creating my music magazine; I used it for the
contents page as well as the double page spread. To begin with I found it quite difficult to use as I hadn’t used
this program before, therefore I watched some videos that taught me how to use it. I chose this to use
throughout creating my magazine as I found it was the best application as it’s features all suited the criteria.
Also I used this because Photoshop doesn’t handle large amounts of text so it’s good for multipage and text
heavy prints.
6. PHOTOGRAPHY:
Throughout media GCSE I hadn’t created a posed photo shoot
in a studio using a professional camera, so I found this very
interesting and exciting. To begin with I took some test shots so
that I could look back at them to see where I needed to
improve. I didn’t find this too hard as I had used a professional
camera before but outside so I had to adjust to the different
lighting and limited amount of space.
Throughout the shoot I used sports mode, this meant that I
could get some high quality shots of the models off guard as
well as the structured shots without them coming out as blurry.
From the test shots I took I found that I needed a bright diffused
lighting from different angles – this lite up certain areas of the
model creating effective and professional shots.
