The student learned about various technologies through creating a magazine. They used a Canon camera to take photos, Photoshop to edit photos, PowerPoint for their evaluation, Facebook to communicate with a focus group, and their phone to email photos and communicate. They also used lighting, Prezi, Blogger, and the internet for research. Overall, the technologies helped the student create a professional, well-researched magazine and they gained experience using new technologies like Photoshop and Blogger through tutorials.

Technologies Learnt in Magazine Production
1. Question 6
What have you learnt about technologies from the process of
constructing this product?
2. Technology
• During the production of my magazine I used many technologies to help me with
the construction. I have leant them and improved my magazine by using these
technologies.
• Cannon 600D
• Blogger
• Power point
• Facebook
• Mobile phone
• Photoshop
• Lighting
• Internet explorer
• Prezi
3. Canon 600D
I used this canon SLR camera to take photos for my magazine which was
an important part of the final product because my magazine has a lot of
photos to avoid being text heavy, to suit my target audience. Being digital,
it meant I could instantly see the photo I had taken allowing me to change
and adapt what didn’t work with the lighting etc. The large memory the
camera has meant I could keep the photos to compare at a later date,
enabling me to chose the best one along with my focus group. I have
learnt a lot about the camera, like how to use the different functions
effectively to get the best outcome. I also used the internet in order to find
tutorials about how to use the camera.
5. PowerPoint
I used PowerPoint for my evaluation. I used this program because I think
it makes my work clear and presentable to the reader, and I can convey
my work easily and effectively. I changed colours and fonts to suit the
presentations.
6. Facebook
Facebook was the main social media platform I used during the planning and
construction of my magazine. I created my focus group on there as it can be
easily accessed everywhere from an app on my phone so I could get fast
feedback and suggestions on my magazine. If I didn’t have Facebook, it
would have been more difficult for me to access my focus group meaning I
wouldn’t have made as many improvements to my magazine based on their
suggestions.
7. Prezi
I used Prezi to show all of my research for codes and conventions
because it is a useful and effective way to present my work. However I
chose not to continue using it for my evaluation because I think
PowerPoint is a more professional way to work and it is more simple to
use in my opinion.
8. Mobile phone
My IPhone 5s was another technology I used for taking photos towards
my final production. It is lightweight and produces good quality photos.
Also, I used my phone to email the photographs to myself so I was able to
use them in Photoshop for my magazine. I also used my mobile phone to
communicate with my focus group via Facebook. Finally, I used my
mobile to communicate with my models to arrange where the photos
would be taken etc.
9. Lighting
I used lighting for all the photos of my main model, to get
better quality images for the type of shots I wanted to
include. I experimented with positioning of the lights to get
the look I was aiming for. I used the internet to find tutorials
to help me position the lights effectively.
10. Adobe Photoshop
I used Photoshop to adjust the images before putting them in my
magazine. I learnt how to manipulate images by adjusting the contrast
and brightness to give them a more dramatic look. I also used Photoshop
to create my whole magazine. At first I was unsure how to use it as I had
no previous experience with Photoshop, but I found tutorials online which
helped me gain experience, as did experimenting until I liked how it
looked. Photoshop enabled me to create a more professional looking
magazine.
11. Internet explorer and blogger
I used this for my research into codes and conventions of existing
magazines, to give me ideas of what to include for my final product. I
also used google and the internet to keep updates of my progress onto
blogger, and YouTube for tutorials about Photoshop and the canon
600D. I learnt a lot about blogger as I had never used it previously, and it
was a very useful for me to keep a constant record of my research. It
would have been more difficult to constantly keep referring to my
research if it had been in hand written form for example.
12. Conclusion
The use of technology has been a big help to me during the planning and
constriction of my magazine. If I had not had any one of these my final
construction would not have been as professional looking and
presentable. All the technologies played a part in the making of my front
cover, contents page and double page spread. The technologies resulted
in my research being clear and cohesive, and easy to navigate. I was
unfamiliar with some of the technologies, but with the knowledge I gained
from tutorials and other people, I found them incredible helpful and in the
future I would be able to use them easily.
