4. Preliminary task;
I think my front cover went well as I was able to gather
experience on creating a front cover and contents page.
It also allowed me to get used to the tools on Photoshop
and the magazine layout itself. I think my group did
include many of the conventions in which professional
magazine publishers typically use. We linked our
competition with a chef as the college promotes healthy
heating in which Jamie Oliver is huge on promoting in
schools and colleges. This therefore appeals to my target
audience. Despite them not looking professional it
allowed me to see what I actually needed to do In order
to create a well established magazine of my own for my
final product. All the basics were completed on both
pages of my preliminary task including sub headlines,
issue number, page information dominate and sub
images etc.
5. However, as I gained more experience using software such as
photoshop. I also became aware I did not use the programme to its full
potential when creating my preliminary task and that’s why I feel our
group task didn’t look the way we totally wanted. As it ended up very
basic. We used the same font throughout, didn’t vary the range in
sublines too much and didn’t complete the task. I also did not edit my
images I did not actually not know how too. We also used a limited
range of colours.
6. After gaining more experience using new software and technology I was able to
improve my knowledge and skills to create my magazine compared to my knowledge
when creating my preliminary task. I also gained a lot more knowledge on the
conventions of magazines which contributed to my final product looking more
professional than my initial preliminary task.
I improved in many areas including
Image quality –
Throughout the course I became more advanced using photoshop therefore I was
able to edit my images to make them look the best they can be use. I also became
more familiar with how to use a camera settings and angles and their effect. This is
all contributed to creating more professional looking images compared to my
preliminary images.Colour;
When creating my preliminary task my group didn’t really think about a
specific colour scheme that related to our target audience. However when
creating my magazine final product I thought about a colour scheme that
could relate to my target audience and make it look as professional as I could.
Clothing;
Due to the time we had for the preliminary task no thought was put
into the clothing as they were taken in the lesson. However in my final
piece I took severe thought in to the clothing in which could appeal to
my target audience.
7. Layout and composition;
Due to my lack of knowledge in magazine conventions, I was unsure about
the layout of a front cover, double page spread and a contents page.
Therefore I feel our layout and the contents in our magazine wasn’t as good
as it could have been. When creating my final product for my magazine I
realised that certain features such the main sell line, dominant image and
masthead need to more dominant on the page.Font ;
When creating my preliminary task I used simple fonts from photoshop which I
felt took a toll on the magazines quality. However when creating my product I
used a website called cool text in order to use a vary of fonts for my magazine.
This would make it unique and catch the attention of my target audience. My
preliminary task had very basic and boring fonts however I feel in my final
product I used a range of fonts.Planning;
My preliminary task was completed in a very short space of time and therefore
we didn’t complete any planning or research other than creating a flat plan. This
planning and research such as the micro elements allowed me to create a
successful final product.
8. Overall I can conclude that my final product
was better and more advanced than my
preliminary task. This was due to the vast
improvement I made and having more
knowledge on the magazine conventions and
advanced skills with technology.
