Film Plot: Crow’s Field
So far Lunar Productions has discussed the film to be of the definite horror genre, also of the decided
name of Crow’s Field. The reasoning to be revealed very soon within the narrative of the film itself.
Before we create and craft our trailer we need to, in depth, understand our plot of the film altogether
alongside character, Mise-En-Scene etc.
Initially at first as a group we had decided that there would be a group of three young teenagers from 14-
17/18 that get together and possibly discover and explore the story behind a 19th Century alleged witch
that was hung for being so, but somehow after a night of being hung she hung on for dear life and was
eventually cut down. The mistake of others not knowing her survival, she goes on to live another 14 years
but in deep madness. In this unfortunate insanity she walked around mumbling and talking to herself,
eating wrong things such as faeces and insects and basically trapped in a life episode of sheer unique
madness for the wrong blaming of witch craft. But the uncertainty of her actually being a witch is
unknown. These teens, as group, go onto investigate this woman as a spirit now and want to unveil her
true story from a small myth they have heard. But trouble lies in their way from possible possession,
obsession and spirit stalking.
We thought of three casual teen charactersgoing into this project together, one female and two males.
Stereotypically making the girl a vulnerable more isolated gender already (this being a noticed facet of a
horror movie). There would also be two males, obviously, one nerdy and one more ‘jock’ like with a
careless attitude. There would also be other non-protagonists such as teachers and class extras. But the
big star would be the spirit of the witch ‘Half-HangedMary’ (which is based on a true story).
However from this idea, our mind-mapping and brainstorming lead to a development in our narration of
the film. Three main teenagersturned to one vulnerable girl, to add more tense isolation to the story.
Alongside this we inputted a twist to the story. Where ‘Half-Hanged Mary’, in past, possessed and initially
tortured the lives of three other characters. Two possibly un-survived or strangely disappeared and one
possible elderly survivor of such a story that helps the girl come to the realism of the alleged witch. This is
a story of true mystery but horror and unveiling the truth, and tearing it from its myth status. But so far
we leave questions as to whether the girl survives this project or whether the ending is leaving us untold
as to whether she is successful or disappears.
We think this was a more gripping and intriguing story for an audience as the girl alone would be more
innocent and helpless, the survivor would help give the viewer the needed information on the witch and
the central witch being different from demons, she is simply a psychotic spirit seeking her unfinished
business on revenge of those who are no longer there. It, simultaneously, follows the aspects of horror
but also contrasts it with its realism and untold story.
