The firstlocationthat I lookedatwhenplanningforthe filminquestionwasof AvoncroftMuseumin
Worcestershire,England,itisanideal locationwithmanyhistoricbuildingsandplacesof interest.
Nowthislocationwasalwayssetinstone and on the list,Iactuallyplanned tomake a Medieval film
for A2 mediastudieslastyear,andsoI have footage dedicatedtothisprojectfromAvoncroftwhichI
will utilise withinthe trailer.Yesthat’sright,Iactuallygot a large sumof filmingdone inlate 2015,
where Iwas able to getsome shotsof Jousting,andthe leadactor in action.I wasalwaysplanning
for this,andAvoncroftwasa perfectlocation,ithadeverything.
Choice of Location: The choice of the locationreallyboileddowntothe space and areathat was
withinthe locationthatcouldbe usedforfilming,notonlythatbutit wasextremely closebyand
veryeasilytotravel to,so ittickeda fewboxesalreadywhenlookingatit.Avoncroftalsoholdalot
of historical re-enactmentsandshows,thistherefore wasaplace thathad frequentevents,filming
was nota problemandIcouldplayto the strengthsof havingpeople theretofilmalso.When
researchinglocationsforthe film, itwasalsoone forthe firstlocationstocome up, now having
manyconnectionsbeingone of myfamilymembersheavilyinvolvedwithinthe re-enactingscene
locationresearchwaseasy.I hadcontacts regardingAvoncroftandwasable to attendmanyjousting
eventstobothresearchand see,aswell asgettingsome filmingdone onthe side-lines.
FilmingOpportunity:Avoncroftisa great and free place tofilm, orit wasin mycase anyway.When
attendingeventsin2015 whenChriswasdoingsome re-enactinghimself,andbeingthe mainactor
for myfilmitwas a perfectopportunitytogetsome footage.ThiswasanopportunityIcouldsimply
not turndown,and thisishow plansfora possible A2medievalmediaprojectbegun,itwasnotset
it stone butit wasthere and itwas a plan.So,Avoncroftwasa locationwhichhadmassive
possibilitieswhenfilming,itwasnotonlydone before initial plans,andthatiswhyI returnedthis
yearto do some filmingtoo.Allround,itisaneasyplace to be able to getto therefore agreat
opportunitytouse,andit housessome spectacularbuildingsinwhichthere isthe opportunitytogo
withintoo.
Features:Avoncroftnotonlyfeatures awide array of landto filmon,it housessome verybeautiful
historicbuildingsandstructures,perfectfora Medieval settingatsome parts. Itsis a verybigplace,
and whenmediastudentsare notusingitto filmon,itacts as a museum, havingsome very
interestingthingsfoundwithin. One of those thingsisthe wide arrayof grassland,whichisusedby
re-enactorsforspecial events,thisisthe ideal place foratournament – infact jousting.Justbeside
the grassland,there isan couple of 15th
centuryhouses,aswell asthe bigprime windmill thatis
situatedatone endof the area. These lookveryauthenticandwouldbe essentiallyexcellenttouse
whenfilmingsome of the scenesforaMedieval ActionAdventure Film. The buildingsthatare
withinthe site notalwaysusedtobe there,there isa couple thathave beenmovedthere because
oif the threatof demolitionontheiroriginal homes,thisiswhyitisalsoa great place to filmasit
has a collectionof buildingsassembledthatwouldn’tusuallybe together.
