Depot Manager – Abel and Cole, Cambridge 2 year 6 months. Total with the company
5 years 6 Months.
Currently I manage a team of 15 staff which includes - 3 depot supervisor, 10 drivers and 2
day shift warehouse staff. This operation runs from 2:30AM Monday to 4pm Friday.
My Responsibilities
Ensure that the operation runs seamlessly from the time goods are unloaded at my depot to
being handed over to the customer whilst always ensuring that every customers experience is
exceptional.
Communicate any problems with relevant department.
Proactively monitor the progress of all drivers out on rounds ensuring that all drivers are
supported and ensure KPI is achieved.
Modify rounds using mapping programs to suit changing environment and buying trends to
maintain optimum delivery effectiveness and to eliminate unnecessary cost and ensuring
effective round balancing.
Maintain effective vehicle maintenance keep up with SLA agreements and repair schedule
working closely with my local service provider to reduce vehicle downtime, as well as
dealing with breakdowns.
Raise purchase orders and order all supplies needed for the depot and the vans.
Ensure that my depot and vehicles comply with all food safety legislation.
Hiring of new staff and dealing with capability and disciplinary hearings.
Conducting team and individual reviews.
Deal with petty cash.
Health and safety at the depot including risk assessments and ensuring correct training for
all staff to meet our legal and moral obligations making sure that trained staff are on site at
all times.
Recording all accident reports (RTA and personal injury) and ensuring that these are report
to the appropriate body or department in a timely manner.

Daily/ Weekly Responsibilities include:
Train new drivers allocated to your team as directed by the Driver training objectives and
standards.

Act as mentors to the new drivers within your team.
Cover holidays for all drivers within your team.
Cover sickness for team members wherever possible.
Cover sickness for other teams where required.
Provide first line assistance to your team members.
Provide support and assistance to all drivers with the morning load procedures ensuring that
all H&S directives are followed.
Advise and assist team members in sequencing and organizational skills.
Completing the “competent person” checks on the vehicles allocated to his team ensuring
that all vehicle faults are rectified or reported.
Deputize for the Depot Manager
Approach all situations in your working day in a courteous and professional manner, acting
as an ambassador of A&C, reflecting our values and principles.
Provide mutual support for all other drivers and be prepared to offer assistance when
required to ensure all daily deliveries are completed.
Your personal appearance must be clean, tidy and professional when meeting the customers.
Issued uniform is to be worn and kept to an acceptable standard.
Adhere to all A&C health and safety policies and practice at all times. Ensure that the safety
of yourself and other road users is your main priority when out on the road and display a
duty of care for yourself and others in your day-to-day duties.
Assist in local marketing and promotion of the company.
Maintain open and regular communication with Managers, Supervisors and other D1 Team
Leaders.
Take an active role in planning of rounds and assist in the office when required.
Act mindfully of the ethics of business at all times. For example: minimize your impact on the
environment and encourage customers to do the same (i.e. consider fuel consumption,
encourage customers to return their packaging etc).
Perform any other duties suitable to the position as required to assist the smooth running of
the company.

Gatwick airport.

based in Harlow working round the country.
2009-Current. Abel and Cole.
I started out as a driver at the Ongar depot.
I was promoted to driver supervisor after 1 year.
I was then promoted to the depot manager of Cambridge 2 years later.
Interests
I have been going to the gym for 4 years and love training 5 to 6 days a week.
I spend the weekends with my 2 kids and wife
I am spending a lot of time studying for my national CPC and also looking at doing my
NEBOSH diploma for health and safety.

I have done over 50 interviews.
I do all driver and warehouse pay.
I have to do reviews on my staff and set them goals to achieve in allotted times.
I do the team KPI and monitor all performance through the year.
I keep up with SLA agreements and monitor the fleet of vehicles at the depot weekly.
Trained to test all of my team with a breathalyser.
I have completed the drugs and alcohol misuse course.
Health and safety IOSH course completed.
Fork lift licence.
While running Cambridge I am Training now to move into fleet management side of the
business currently moving round the 9 depots doing fleet audits on behalf of the transport
manger of all vehicles.
Coming up with new ideas to improve depot performance and keep standardization across
the fleet.
Looking into reducing risks to the fleet.
Also involved in doing my national CPC in June 2015 along with the NEBOSH Diploma in
health and safety.
