Originally starting as Night Shift Manager controlling a team of 40 operatives it was my duties to ensure the
operation ran smoothly. The main duties remit at this time was to oversee the picking, replenishment and loading
within the warehouse using a voice activated system. Staff performance and managing company policies was an
essential part of my duties to make sure the shift ran effectively. A strong focus was put on efficiency and customer
satisfaction by delivering quality products to our stores in excellent condition meeting defined timelines.
After 9 years I then moved onto the Day Shift and was given the title of Assistant Warehouse Manager with the
overseeing of all functions in our Distribution Center. My overall responsibilities had increased and I had more
focus on managing a budget with particular focus on completing a weekly KPI report. Within the warehouse
functions there is a few different systems which I had to have good knowledge of to oversee the smooth running of
the operation whilst knowing how to problem solve along the way.
Due to a management reshuffle I then became Warehouse Manager and currently report directly into the Site
Manager.
I am quite proud of my achievements thus far and only last year I was asked to oversee the transition of a Night
Shift to a Day Shift at our Riversway Warehouse which we had recently acquired through a buy out to supply our
own fruit & veg. I was asked to look at efficiencies through firstly observation but quickly reducing our headcount
from 15 to 12 by the implementation of a more effective rota using more staff at peak times but reducing them on
quieter nights. Through discussions with suppliers to deliver in earlier we was able to take off the Night Shift and
move to an afternoon shift which enabled us to deliver to some of our stores in the evening which gave delivery on
the same day as ordering. The cost savings to the business was considerable as we saved on night shift allowance
whilst also reducing staff numbers.
Night Shift Manager T & S Stores
My first experience of moving into management was gained I was recognised as an extremely hard working
individual with a flawless attendance record. I had been an order picker and FLT driver but had an insight of how to
introduce best practice through my long experience within the industry. Amongst my achievements I was
responsible for overseeing the implementation of a voice activated system concentrating mainly on the process of
the replenishment system which I gained exceptional efficiency from. I moved to Booths after 5 years as it was a
new challenge but also a position closer to home with better rewards.
Warehouse Operative Co-operative Wholesale Society
My first job at which I was in for 14 years learning all aspects of a warehouse operation with the added bonus of
learning to drive several different types of MHE including – Reach Truck, Counterbalance Truck, Multi Level Truck
and Pedestrian Truck. It was through redundancy due to relocation that I left the business.
