I have been an employee with Travis Perkins for nearly six years have thoroughly enjoyed the
challenges that the roles I have performed entail. We work in an exciting industry negotiating
prices with both customer and suppliers. From that first enquiry by a customer, closing a successful
sale and delivering efficiently, safely and on time. Building strong relationships with customers and
delivering high levels of service.
It is essential we have a strong highly motivated team I have enjoyed creating a positive atmosphere
with the team that I work with.
Employment History
Assistant Branch Manager
Travis Perkins
Okehampton Branch
1st
February 2010 to 12th
September 2013 & 20th
January 2014 to present
During this period I have had a strong proactive approach in targeting customers and driving the
business' AOP/turnover forward with the Branch Manager. With my return to the branch I have
been instrumental in allocating account's to colleagues to chase and develop through the business.
Through cold calling and quoting to ensure maximum spend with Travis Perkins and reduce any
spend at rival merchant's.
Merlin has an invaluable tool with which to increase customers spend, and target areas of link
selling where products have potentially been purchased at other merchants if purchased at all. I've
established a Merlin culture at the branch, where all three sales team members, including our part
time admin employee have been active on Merlin. In doing so I've created a graph or leader board
of Merlin usage which is updated daily and put on display on the branch sales board.
Within Merlin, sales team members have been appointed “champion” target customers, where they
are to develop and encourage spend. In doing so, my sales colleagues have been encouraged to
undertake the Merlin training available within the TP Academy which will enhance their skills. I
believe that in this market and the current climate customer care is a priority. By making regular
2. site visits to my customers, I encourage them to spend by way of building close relationships with
them. This is proving to be fruitful and paying dividends and I look with a forward to continuing
this.
By driving Merlin I have been able to convert a TCC customer to a full Credit Account who through
my efforts have year to date spent £20303.70 with the potential to continue on their own success.
In addition to improving existing customers, I have been able to reclaim lost customers who I
identified as having high spend potential and to date have spent £15010.00. With the use of Merlin
I am proud to have brought customers and sales back into the Branch.
I developed a Branch Pack to be sent to all Prospective Customers and Opportunities listed on
Merlin that includes an introductory letter from the branch along with a Customer Credit
Application form and TCC form. Attracting and encouraging new customers to the branch and in
turn increase turnover and market share.
Okehampton had run a satellite branch of TP Tool hire, when first appointed as Assistant Branch
Manager I took control of hire and drove sales. During this three month period, sales for the branch
reached £2614 compared to a budget of £833 for the same quarter period which is a terrific
increase. I have a good experience with Tool Hire and wish to continue in this area of the business
referring to past experience and knowledge gained to develop skills already attained further.
I have had tremendous input with regard to company half yearly stock take. From co-ordinating
realistic and current location maintenance pre stock take, co-ordinating teams for the actual count,
input of stock sheets and investigation to confirm or rectify stock count discrepancies.
Within my role as Assistant Branch Manager I am responsible for ordering our core stock, being
both mandated and branch select product ranges to achieve the target score of 97.0% and 94.0%
respectively as per company directive, these are achieved regularly and the figures are well
maintained.
During February 2011 I had steadily been working through the branch risk assessments, to maintain
the branch Health and Safety Manual for Managers file. This task is performed monthly, working
through the outstanding tasks and raising any potential issues highlighted to the branch Manager
and where relevant the Regional Director. I have created and implemented a graph to reflect the
“Likelihood” and “Consequence” table which you will be aware of from your Managers meetings
with the Regional Director. They are completed and filed with every Risk Assessment that is
applicable to Okehampton Branch.
The supply, issue and recording of PPE equipment to my colleagues has been undertaken by myself
on an on-going basis.
I am responsible for the servicing and maintenance of plant and machinery within the branch, which
include the lorry and diesel operated forklift truck. This entails contacting service and repair teams
where relevant Vehicle Check sheets have reported faults for them to be repaired and made fit for
use as per company and health and safety directives. With regard to the lorry, this will also include
appointments being made for the service of the crane, FTA inspections and quarterly FTA services
carried out by our local approved contractor. The condition of the truck is always a priority – not
only for maintenance of the safety of the staff but also to maintain the professional presentation of
Travis Perkins.
Further skills include the ability to operate and control yard sales, service and goods during the
absence of the yard foreman. I am a qualified fork lift driver, with experience to maintain a tidy and
3. safe yard, providing customer service through sales with product knowledge earned through
working for Travis Perkins. Within this role I am also a qualified racking inspector, and these
inspections are carried out on a monthly basis in accordance with company policy. Should I identify
any faulty racking, the Branch Manager and yard staff including the lorry driver are notified as to
what course of action has been undertaken, and contact the relevant external body to make any
necessary repairs.
In conjunction with Yard duties, I was instrumental in assisting the Branch Manager with
redesigning specific areas of the yard to make the site more attractive, appealing and efficient to
customers, enhancing foot traffic. I am always looking for ways in which to make the Branch better
for existing customers and ways to attract new ones.
Branch Manager
Travis Perkins
Braunton Branch
13th
September 2013 to 20th
January 2014
During this period my focus was predominately on the customer base due the then Trading situation
at this branch. Opening of new account's, developing existing Credit Account and Trade Cash Card
Customer's was was paramount in this role. Negotiating sales term's for customer's in tandem with
supplier's purchase price to ensure secured and continued business for the branch was performed
daily. So much so that I personally took a customer to a supplier visit in Bristol that consequently
secured a £40k direct order. My AOP target, matched with delivering exceptional customer service
within a friendly and safe environment was the spearhead of branch management.
There were two other staff members in the office of the branch, and I was fully committed to
directing and coordinating them on the branch strategy of sales for either Merchant or Tool Hire.
With the Assistance of Dan Haggerty and his team, I arranged a Trade Day at the branch in
September 2013. This included supplier's stands, catering for customer's and a prize draw which
proved most successful.
Health and Safety was the primary objective within this role ensuing the branch was a safe
environment for all that attend be it customer, supplier or staff. This was accomplished by annually
reviewing the branch Risk Assessment’s, daily branch walks and the completion of quarterly branch
Health and Safety meetings being reported back to K Moyle (RD) Issue of replacement staff PPE
and the introduction of any new H&S H/O directive's was completed by myself.
All Human Resource issue's at branch level was conducted by myself which included time
recording be it absence through sickness or holiday, salary review's with appraisals, and in one
instance a disciplinary. The recruitment of an Assistant Branch Manager was conducted by myself
twice whilst in this position at Braunton, which was seen through from advertisement stage, the
interview process right through to salary negotiation, appointment and induction.
With Braunton's AOP there was a £4k budget for tool hire. I was very proactive with tool hire,
where colleagues were challenged to “seek out” new opportunities in this market. Despite an overall
difficult revenue yield at Braunton, we beat AOP significantly reaching a closing figure £9.9k for
2013.
March 2013 account's for the branch reported a loss of £32k YTD, and I was delighted to have
completed the year with YTD Net Profit of £82k. Far from AOP, but a dramatic turn in business.
4. Counter Sales Assistant
Travis Perkins
Okehampton Branch
27th
July 2009 to 31st
January 2010
Counter Sales has been my main role here at TP Okehampton. Serving customs at the trade counter
for light side goods and yard sales using the blue collection tickets. This also include arranging
delivery of goods for customers, and Inter Branch Transfers.
Within this role I have completed the daily PI count including the investigation of discrepancies
raised, and final posting when completed. Liaising with branch management to confirm the final
count to POS.
I have had to provide holiday cover for the Yard man regularly; where I have gained the ability to
operate and control yard sales, service and goods inward I am a qualified fork lift driver, who has
experience to maintain a tidy and safe yard, providing high level customer service and sales with
strong product knowledge.
I have gained experience of stock take, including updating realistic and current location
maintenance pre stock take, participating in the actual count within teams, and entering stock
sheets.
I have been responsible for receipting goods in deliver notes into POS, and then storing any light
side stock received to their correct location, and to maintain that location aesthetically for marketing
purposes. This included regular deliveries from Travis Perkins central stores Brackmills.
