2. INTRODUCTION
I opened Adobe InDesign and created a new document with 4 pages and with 3
columns, I can transfer my front page and contents page after I have done the
DPS. I clicked ‘OK’ and it then came up with the next screen.
3. COLUMNS & PAGES
Each of the columns have margins so it’s easier to scale, move and place things on
top of this template, giving a more professional look. I transferred one of the
pages downwards, so that there’s one for the front cover, contents and DPS.
4. HEADLINE & STANDFIRST
Firstly, I create a textbox and inserted the
headline, adjusting the font and size. Then
highlight headline and, click on colour on the
left to change. After click on stroke and
adjust the weight and colour of the stroke.
This is demonstrated by the following
screenshots. Create a stand first by adding a
new textbox and place underneath the
headline. Follow the same steps, adjusting
size, but making sure it is smaller than the
headline.
5. ARTICLE
You need to create a text box and then click on type and fill with placeholder text. After
click on paragraph formatting controls and go to the columns button, click it and adjust
it to 3 columns.
6. ARTICLE - PROBLEMS
If a red plus sign appears, it means the article
has more text. To get the rest of your text, you
need to create a new text box on the other
page and click on the red plus sign. After, click
on the red plus and it will attach something to
your mouse, and all you need to do then is
copy into the other text box.
7. DROP CAPS
Select the first letter of the article and click on paragraph formatting controls and
then go onto drop cap number of lines and change it to 3 lines. You can have 2
lines but most magazines typically tend to have 3 lines.
8. BYLINE
This is quite easy to do, just insert a text box and write who the article was written by.
This tends to be quite small but big enough to spot by the reader.
9. IMAGE
Click on file, then place to insert your image. Resize it then click on to paragraph
formatting. Next click on wrap around object, and then adjust the spacing by
clicking on the up arrow.
10. CAPTION & GRAB QUOTE
Type in text and right click on the photo, and click ignore wrap text. You can then
type in your caption, change the font so it stands out. Then to make the grab quote
big and wrap it in the middle of the article, copy the quote, place in new text box
then wrap around text which will be in the middle of the text.
