To create a double page spread in InDesign, drag two pages together. To add a masthead from another document, create a transparent document with the masthead, crop and save as a Photoshop file, then place it in InDesign. Mastheads help with identity and recognition on shelves. Columns are made by changing the default paragraph style to have two columns. Page numbers are added in text boxes corresponding to double page spreads. Bylines identify article authors and are usually larger than the text.

2. Creating the double page spread

Once you have selected 4 A4 sides when
setting up your indesign document, you will
need to drag two of the pages (as shown for
page 3-4) together. This will create a double
page spread.

3. Bringing in masthead.
From your cover page you will need to create
another document which is transparent. After
this you will need to drag the masthead onto this
document. From this you will need to crop the
page and save it as a photoshop document. You
can then go onto indesign and press file, place
then select this document.
Masthead’s are on double page spread’s as it
creates identity for your magazine and helps
people remember it on the shelf.

4. Creating Columns.
You will need to press the paragraph section shown in arrow number one. After
that the columns should be default at 1, you will need to change this to 2.

5. Creating page numbers.
Draw out a text box and write in the numbers which correspond to
you double page spread.

6. Creating the by line.
You will need to make another text box in
which you will write you by line.
A by line tells the audience who has wrote the
article, it is usually one size bigger than the
article to make it stand out.

7. Change Colour.
Firstly, you will need to highlight the piece of
text which you want to change the colour of
using the text tool. Then you need to click
colour on the right hand corner and choose
your colour.

8. Create Grab quote.
You need to highlight the piece of text which you want to make
Into a grab quote, then you need to increase the size until it fits your needs.
You need to make sure to include quotation marks.
A grab quote is used to attract the audience.
