Are you similar t Cosmic Tiger? They’re all 17 years old. Listen too the Artic Monkeys and cannot
wait for The Killers’ new album release later on this year. Eva Clarke, Brandon Cooke, Lydia
Morris and Mason Jolley enjoy nothing more than hanging out with each other while creating
fresh new music. Introducing their new 2017 debut album ‘Controlled’(produced by Jim Abbiss of
Arctic Monkeys fame), Cosmic Tiger styled themselves as the indie band that have a hint of pop.
To add to the mixture, there live gigs and meet ups have made the UK go crazy since forming in
2016.
Writing from Birmingham’s central café, sipping and thinking; there’s an exclusive interview on
Cosmic Tiger and their sound. Together they create beguiling indie music accompanied by
unique mixes of noises. Eva, main singer of csomic Tiger siad “We’re all about different. We want
to produce raw music like no-one else; even it means some don’t like it. We’re not going to
follow.” With the support of family, friends and co-producer Jay Clarke (Eva’s father), Domino
Recording Company gave them their first ever record deal back in early 2016 which hit the top 40
charts on Radio 1 just 2 weeks later. I started to wonder how they got in to music and how far
back this whole processs started and Eva claimed “Well, it sounds so typical of any artist to do
this but I started recording, like recoridng on Youtube.” “Iwas then found by the Atric Monkeys’
producer, Domino Recording Company, giving me a shot at this whole muisc industry business!”
Eva came together with school friends, Lydia and Brandon, to then meet with Brandon’s best
mate and now thei drummer, Mason Jolley. the band began to grow in popularity across the
West Midlands, receiving attention from BBC Radio and the British tabloid pres. “Id have to say,
that was one of the most important days of my life so far” she chuckled and stated. “I guess that’s
what formed our band Cosmic Tiger. We live in such a small community, this has to be the best
achievement for us.”
Controlled features a range of different beats from true indie sounds to more pop-ish beats.
There is also a bonus track on the special edition album that is soon to be released 1 week after
the original Controlked album release. (Find out more at www.lockedmag.com) “Our album is
built up of all our favourite beats, vocals and personalitties which cause us to be different to any
indie band in the UK” Brandon explained, I wanted to know if their joyrney has been difficult so

far, Lydia said “nothings easy if you want to do well, but the greatest feeling is achieving
something brill.” Lydia said that some singles included in the album ‘Fever’, ‘Dark Nights’, ‘In the
Clouds’ and ‘Complicated’ are to do with being young, escapism and having fun.
I had many questions for them and one was ‘Did one band member write their songs or was it
collabrative?’ Eva spoke “I would say its more collaborative, although we all take the different
roles in song writing.” Mason explained “I’m the beat, Brandons is respoonsible for the piano,
Eva’s vocals and Lydia’s guitar. Without us all working together there wouldn’t be Cosmic Tiger…
only Cosmic without the Tiger” he laughed. Don’t we all wonder, what actually makes them
different though? We’re all surrounded by the most successful indie pop artists/bands; Maroon 5,
The Artic Monkrys along with old favs’ Red Hot Chilli Peppers and The Killers. Lydia commented
“it’s our independence, individuality and age, we want to be the new upcoming indie pop band
that does actually appeal to young people but also an older audience. I feel we can relate better
to our fans.”
As we all got more comfortabe in this café, Brandon added “Our style is probably one of the main
things that make us, not to mention the music aspect duuuuuh” Caleb Followill (Kings of Leon) is
Cooke’s biggest influence for music and style.
Cosmic Tiger perfoemd at some gigs in B’ham in early 2016. The band took part at the Hare &
Hounds (http://hareandhoundskingsheath.co.uk/) and The RainbowVenues
(http://therainbowvenues.co.uk/) where indie rock band Two Door Cinema Club played. I asked
Cosmic Tiger if they will be doing any more gigs soon and Mason replied saying that theres one
coming up in 5 weeks, Saturday April 29th 2017. “This is going to be our biggest gig at Rainbow.”

I had only 30 mins left with Cosmic Tiger as they were driving down to Leeds, but still wanted to
get some questions before they went. I was interested to see who they got their inspiration from?
They all contributed “Mainly it’s got to be Maroon 5 and Kings of Leon” said Eva.
Mason added “I still respect Catfish and the Bottlemen as they’re my kind of people. Even though
they’re a rock band, I love their style of music… one quote from a interview with McCann is ‘We

don’t go out partying because we don’t feeel like we’ve got anything to party about, We’re still not
where we want to be and we’ll do anything to get there.’ That inspires me as were getting older
and want to be just as successful.”
This simple effective ethos that Cosmic Tiger have tried to portray through their music is
clealry working at such a young age, these 4 are on to something very big. Keep your
eyes peeled, they’ll be bringing some more ROARING hits sooon.
