4. On the spread, the first thing we had to do was bring in our masthead. Using the
masthead we created for our magazines on Photoshop, we saved the mastheads
by themselves and then opened it using the ‘place’ option in InDesign.
5. To create the
headline, we used
the Text box tool.
This would allow
us to draw a text
box, however big
we would want it,
and then we
could edit the
text size and font.
The tools at the
top allow us to
manipulate the
headline text we
create, so we can
add colour if we
want, using the
‘swatches’ tool.
This was also used for editing and creating the standfirst and byline, and we could
manipulate them to look different from the rest of the text.
6. To be able to manipulate the
article text, and to create
columns, we used the toolbar at
the top of the page again and
went onto the paragraph
options.
Then, using the column tool we
could make as many columns as
we want: keeping to the
conventions of magazines we
went with either 2 or three
columns depending on what we
preferred.
If we had text on both sides of the spread we could link two text boxes and make the text
flow from one box to the other. If text overflowed, this sign came up. To make the text
flow into another textbox, we drew another text box, clicked this sign and then clicked in
the new textbox, and this linked the two text boxes together.
7. To create the dropcap in
the article, we used this
tool and made the first
letter the size we
wanted.
