The Commission for Accreditation for Physical Therapy Education Curriculum as Viewed Through
the Lens of Social Meliorism Curricula can be viewed from different perspectives in order to critically
evaluate how they might best influence students, institutions, and faculty. The purpose of this paper is
to evaluate the Commission on Accreditation for Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) Evaluative
Criteria for Physical Therapist (PT) Programs and its relationship to a social meliorist framework.

CAPTE was established in 1977 by the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), and has
served as the sole accrediting agency for physical therapist and physical therapist assistant programs
(http://www.capteonline.org/WhatWeDo/ , retrieved 12/10/2014). While accreditation is a voluntary
process for programs, graduation from a PT or PTA program that meets the accreditation standards of
CAPTE or is substantially equivalent is required for students to be able to be eligible to take the PT
national licensure exam. (NPTE Candidate Handbook. General Information, retrieved 12/10/2014).
In its work as an accrediting body, CAPTE has established programmatic standards and criteria for
evaluation of Physical Therapist and Physical Therapist Assistant programs. These standards are
influenced by the profession in defining the nature of contemporary practice and determining practice
expectations and the demands that are placed on graduates (CAPTE Evaluative Criteria, p. i, 2014).
CAPTE references five documents in the derivation of these standards: the Guide to Physical
Therapist Practice, which describes patient/client management, and the Normative Model of Physical
Therapist Professional Education, which focuses on the prerogatives, perspectives, beliefs, and values
relative to PT education, the APTA Code of Ethics, the Guide for Professional Conduct, and the

The first source is a Newspaper article from The New York Times dated May 5th, 1970, a day after the
shooting. This second hand source is filled with first hand quotes from people who were there and
experienced the shooting. This article also includes the basic information of how everything happened
at that tragic event. This newspaper article was used to tell the people of America, what tragic event
had happened which ended up increasing the antiwar movement because of the anger that it sparked in
Americans and the repression on the first amendment to freely and peacefully assemble. The New
York Times is an extremely reliable source. This article in particular pertaining to the shooting does

The photographer was John Filo, a student at Kent State university who studied photojournalism. He
was also a staffer of a satellite paper for the Pittsburgh Tribune Review. Filo s purpose behind
submitting the photo to the press was to get the word out about probably the most tragic event that was
caused because of the intense anti war movement. He wanted to show people the horror that took
place at Kent State University on May 4th 1970. The value of this picture is exactly that, it is a picture
so it makes it extremely difficult to be subjective. The picture only shows what the guardsmen did to
the protesters and not what the protesters did to them. Of course the extent was very different since the
guardsmen took lives while the protesters only threw rocks; it only shows the

Evaluation Of The Preschool Language
1. Interpretation
During today s evaluation, we used the Preschool Language Scale Fifth Edition (PLS 5) and general
observations of the way Z plays and interacts with others to assess her speech and language skills. The
PLS 5 is a norm referenced test, meaning that the creators of the test developed a set of typical or
average scores based on a large sample of children, to help clinician s determine whether a child, like
Z, performs at the same level as other children her age that were included in the sample.
a. The PLS 5 looks at a few things that help us to determine Z s speech and language abilities. One
area that the test pinpoints is called auditory comprehension this refers to things such as Z s attention
to her environment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Z s score fell in the 1st percentile in both auditory comprehension and expressive communication.
What this means is that Z scored as well or better than 1% of the sample population of children her
age, but 99% of other children her age achieved a higher score.
e. Age equivalent scores represent the average score of the children in the sample for a particular age
group in a specific area. For example, Z got an age equivalent score of 7 months for auditory
comprehension. This does not mean that Z understand language at a 7 month old level, but rather that
Z s score corresponds to the average raw score obtained by 7 month olds in the PLS 5 sample. On the
expressive communication section, Z s score translated to an age equivalency of 5 months, meaning
that her raw score corresponds to the average raw score obtained by 5 month olds in the PLS 5
sample. These scores try to compare children to the average X year old, but language development is
remarkably variable and the average child does not really exist. We like to look as average as more of
a range, rather than a set level of achievement.
2. Short term Session goals:
a. Given a field of 5 objects out of her reach and vocal/gestural modeling by the clinician and parent,
Z will increase frequency of intentional communication, using signs, gestures or vocalizations to
request desired object in 8 out of

Literary Devices In A Prayer For Owen Meany
When reading John Irving s, A Prayer for Owen Meany, he uses a plethora of literary devices and
techniques. Out of the list that he displays in this novel, there are three elements that really draw
through the entire piece. These being: foreshadowing, irony, and setting. The three listed are the
devices Irving uses to the most extent and impact the story more than all the others. Foreshadowing is
the clearest to spot throughout the chapters. Launching in the second chapter, The Armadillo, was
when Owen Meany first came across as a Christ figure. Johnny s cousins come to 80 Front Street to
visit for Thanksgiving and Owen Meany is upstairs in the attic with Johnny. Hesitantly, Johnny
introduces the cousins to Owen, scared of how they ll treat Owen, or how they ll treat Johnny for
being friends with him. After the cousins declare how wimpy Owen is and make fun of his voice, they
see Owen in the attic with his arms behind his back (being armless) and the sun shining from behind
him, making him look like the ultimate Christ figure. Hester even stated to Johnny that she didn t even
think he was human. Johnny connects Owen to God, thinking that there is no doubt that, in the
dazzling configurations of the sun that poured through the attic in skylights, he look looked like a
descending angel a tiny but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An example of symbolism could even be Owen Meany representing Christ or Johnny s guardian angel
who ends up cutting off Johnny s trigger finger for his protection from the draft to Vietnam.
Armlessness is also a symbol that Irving utilizes through out the entire novel, with different objects
and characters representing the disadvantages of missing a body part or the helplessness of some
people, or relationships with God and surrendering to their beliefs. These people include Lydia s
amputated leg, Johnny s finger, Tabitha s dressing dummy, and many others mentioned through out the

Henry Clay Frick Research Paper
Henry Clay Frick
In this paper I am going to talk about how Henry Clay Frick was an important man to our history and
some things that he contributed. Not only was he a successful industrialist, but an art patron and a
philanthropist. He was one of the most important people that helped put Pittsburgh on the map.
It all started in a small town in Westmoreland county called West Overton. He was born in 1849 into a
wealthy family not his parents but his grandfather had some money. His grandfather was Abraham
Overholt, who was a wealthy rye whiskey distiller. As he was growing up his grandfather gave him a
job as a bookkeeper. And that was the job that made him want to become a ... Show more content on

It started because Carnegie wanted to eliminate the unions in his mills, but Frick supported actions
that setback the labor movement for decades. The Homestead Works strike didn t look good for
Carnegie because of the death and violence, which had happened, and he tried to avoid any
connections with him. The two kept disputing each other which led to Frick resigning form the
company in 1899(Warren, 1996).
After the violence at Homestead, Alexander Berkmann, attempted to assassinate Henry Clay Frick in
his second floor office in Downtown Pittsburgh. While recovering from his attack at his home his son
Clayton died shortly after birth. Frick also didn t have much public support after the Homestead
violence. However after these to instances he gained public sympathy (Warren, 1996).
After his near death experience and fall out with Carnegie Steel Company he continued his business
interests in Pittsburgh, New York, and other cities. He formed the St. Clair Steel Company in 1900,
with the largest coke works in the world in Clairton. He then played a major role in the formation of
United States Steel Corporation, after Carnegie sold his interests in the Carnegie Steel Company in
1901. He then began investing in a large real estate in Downtown Pittsburgh that included the Frick
Building,

Creation Of The Sistine Chapel s Accomplishments
In 1508, Pope Julius II wanted a geometric ornament and the placement of twelve Disciples in
spandrels (spaces between two arches) around the decoration to cover up the original blue ceiling
covered in stars. The task was asked to thirty three year old sculptor, Michelangelo, who although at
the time did not want to paint the ceiling, proposed the idea of old testament stories along the ceiling.
The first stories showcased are The Creation of the Heavens and Earth, The Creation of Adam and
Eve, The Expulsion from the Garden of Eden, and the story of Noah and the Great Flood. When the
painting was first begun, the painting, The Deluge, showed multiple figures that were small in size
that had very complex stories.

It was completed in the December of 1989 and was unveiled in its entirety after being approved of in
1994 on December 11th, 1999 by Pope John Paul II. The longest restoration process to date was ran
by a group of conservators including Gianluigi Colalucci, Maurizio Rossi, and Piergiogio Boretti. In
1979, a chemical compound, AB 57, was tested on the East Wall. AB 57 is a calcium dissolving
solvent, a solution made up of ammonium bicarbonate, sodium bicarbonate, desogen (anti fungal
acid), and carboxyl methyl cellulose, which is then dissolved in water, developed by Professor Paulo
and Laura Mora. It was made to remove insoluble salts and materials that had been incrusted into the
paintings, and ended up being able to bring very bright colors into the painting. When the AB 57 was
to be applied, it would have to sit for three minutes, and then taken off by washing it with water.
Following that it would dry for twenty four hours, and this application process would be repeated
again. Another chemical called B 72 was also used to seal the walls lunettes (Ancestors of Christ), but
this process was quickly thrown out. As a way to ensure that the restoration would remain the way it
is, an intricate climate control system was designed to protect the frescos from air pollution, heat, and

Applying Standardized Terminology in Nursing Essay
Applying Standardized Terminologies in Practice
Chamberlain College of Nursing
NR 512: Nursing Informatics
Fall 2014
Introduction
As a result of the introduction of computer technology and the combination of evidence based practice
in nursing; standardization of terminologies has become imperative in the classification of nursing
diagnosis, interventions and expected outcomes. The most popular and successful systems are the
North American Nursing Diagnosis Association International (NANDA I), Nursing Outcomes
Classification (NOC), and Nursing Intervention Classification (NIC) (de Lima Lopes, de Barros,
Marlene Michel, 2009). This paper aims to provide a brief outline of these standardized terminologies

Nurses should take care to select the proper outcomes to ensure optimum care is provided to patients
with CHF. The plan of care is dependent on the nursing diagnosis and the desired nurse sensitive
outcomes. The priority NOC outcome for the diagnosis of CHF is Fluid Balance and Fluid Overload
Severity. Other related NOC outcomes are Knowledge: Cardiac Disease Management, Knowledge:
Energy conservation, Knowledge: Medication, Knowledge: Prescribed Activity, Knowledge:
Treatment, and Knowledge: Weight Management (Johnson et al., 2012). These are only a select few of
the multiple outcomes available; care should be modified as the disease progresses through the
problems which evolves over the lifetime of patients diagnoses with CHF. Once all these
determinants are established, the nurse will be prepared to determine which level of NOC is essential
to effectively manage the disease.
Nursing Intervention Classification
Nursing interventions are focused on nursing behaviors to guide the patient in the direction of the
most preferred outcome (Johnson et al., 2012). Fluid management, fluid/electrolyte management, and
hypervolemia management are the major interventions in effective management of CHF. Fluid
management is the most difficult intervention for all patients suffering from CHF. Evaluation of the

An Analysis Of Bette Greene s The Summer Of My German Soldier
An action, a statement, one instant, has the power to alter your life and for young Patricia Bergen in
the young adult fiction novel, The Summer of my German Soldier by Bette Greene, many different
conflicts she had to face caused her to think very poorly of herself. Fortunately, with the influence of
one German soldier her whole mindset was revised. In the beginning of the novel , Patty Bergen
portrays as an insecure, desperate, and a solitary young girl, but at the resolution of the story we see
Patty as a confident, mature, and hopeful young woman who dreams of life away from the hardships
she faced.
When Patty Bergen is first introduced, we get an impression of Patty s life at home and her parent s
behavior towards her. Patty s father physically abuses her for misbehaving yet he beats Patty
mercilessly for foolish reasons in particular Mr. Bergen on page 106 and 107, God damn you! He
shouted at me. You ll obey me if it kills you! . In this quote, the harsh treatment Patty had to
experienced is displayed, the reader can notice that at the point, the quote occurs, Henry Bergen
assaults his daughter for a very foolish reason, explaining the reason why Patty is very unaccompanied
and how she is very determined to be adored by her parents. Not only is Patty physically abused, but
her mother verbally abuses her with insults and comments that cause Patty to think she needs to revise
her appearance. Mrs. Bergen s actions are demonstrated when Patty enters their general

Barriers Of Communication In Communication
A business setting requires that the people concerned communicate effectively with each other in order
to reduce negative consequences that would be as a result of misunderstanding or damaged
relationship. There are many barriers that would hinder any business communication process. These
includes cliché, jargon, slang, sexist and racist language, euphemism, double speak. This essay briefly
described these barriers to communication in a business setting.
Cliché is a barrier of communication because it entails the use of once clever word or phrase that has
lost its impact through overuse (McLean, 2010, p.58). An example of a cliché would be this is just but
the wars of cats and dogs . In a business setting, the use of a cliché would undermined the seriousness
with which the meeting at hand is handled. When it is used carelessly, the quorum may find it silly or
boring and that may cause the listeners to ignore the message they are intended to pass. When this
happens, then a cliché becomes an obstacle to the effectiveness of communication.
Jargon on the other hand is the use of words which may not be familiar to everyone but to only those
who frequently use it for instance the people in the same profession. An example of this would be
Ceasar Pass to mean a kind of pass in soccer. Assuming that jargons are used in a business setting to
audience who do not understand their specific meanings, do you think the message will be passed
effectively? It may be irritating when someone

Analysis Of The Mighty Ducks D2
Released in 1994, The Mighty Ducks D2, directed by Sam Weisman is a fictional sequel based off The
Mighty Ducks (1992). It is about a youth hockey team, The Mighty Ducks, which are reunited to
represent Team USA in an international competition which takes place in Los Angeles, California. The
main characters are Coach Gordon Bombay played by Emilio Estevez, Charlie Conway played by
Joshua Jackson, as well as all the other members of the team who play pivotal roles in the film.
Mighty Ducks D2 was a film that played a vital role in influencing American born hockey players, and
kids from non traditional hockey markets to try hockey and ultimately want to represent their country
playing hockey. One of the main contributing factors to the movies success was its Entertainment
value. This is comprised of the hook, action, suspense, and TR sequence. The movie opened with a
tremendous hook starting when former minor league player and coach Gordon Bombay rounds up all
the original members of The Mighty Ducks from various areas and background to bring them back
together to play for Team USA in The Junior Goodwill Games. Action was heavily exemplified in all
their games but emphasized when they competed against the bigger, stronger, and heavily favorited
Team Iceland. They battle in the Championship game was filled with not only action but suspense, and
TR sequences. There were many massive hits, and penalties. Also, they traded goals making it hard to

Trump s Persuasive Arguments
Trump won the first presidential debate between himself and Hillary Clinton based on the criteria of,
who had the least amounts of interruptions between the candidates and the moderator, who had the
least amount of meaningless insults in their argument against each other, and the last one being who
provided the most ethical, logical, and emotional appeals in their argument. All of these factors were
the criteria for the winning of this debate, for the reason of the criteria providing judgment of debate
etiquette and the inclusion of the needed elements of a persuasive argument. This criteria leads to the
conclusion that Donald Trump won the first presidential debate.
The first criteria was the amount of interruptions the candidates had between ... Show more content on

While both candidates used primarily ethos for their arguments, and both were effective with their
ethos arguments, so much so that neither really beat the other on providing ethical appeals. Though for
logical appeals Trump provided more logical appeals than Clinton, for example Trump brought up that
stop and frisk lowered murders for New York. While Clinton bundles that without stop and frisk
crimes including murders are down which is also true, but as Trump said murders are going up after
stop and frisk was no longer in use. They were both right in this instance, because murders were at
their third lowest, but murders were at their lowest when stop and frisk was invoked, and with this
argument Trump took over the logical appeal for the debate. Then going on the emotional appeals that
the candidates presented, Clinton coame up almost with no emotional appeals for her argument, while
Trump came up with quite a few. Trump uses the fact that he would never thought he would be
making as much money as his is now, and how people should support someone that has grown from
the ground up with their life, and he attempts to make many more arguments trying to appeal to people
s emotional side. While Clinton only really tries to make an emotional appeal when she states that her
father was a small business owner that gave them a nice middle class living, which doesn t really
move as many people as saying they have gone from nothing to something. Leaving Trump to have
provided the most effective emotional appeals to his argument. All together Trump provided the most
appeals for his argument by having provided more logical and emotional appeals than Clinton and the
same amount of ethical appeals as her as

Alexander Solzhenitsyn s One Day Of The Life Of Ivan...
Alexander Solzhenitsyn s classic novel, One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich is a short novel about
a prisoner trying to survive a Soviet labor camp, known as the Gulag. Solzhenitsyn s writing style and
subject matter is similar to the pre Revolutionary writers than the writers of his time. Socialist realism
was the style of literature that was widely spread throughout Joseph Stalin s Soviet Union. Therefore,
One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich consists mainly of socialist realist literature intended to
function as Communist propaganda, through optimistic and positive portrayals of workers satisfaction
on collective farms and in government factories. Thesis. The theme of work is prevalent throughout
the novella and throughout the history of the Soviet Union.
Soviet literature was increasing in popularity beginning in 1921. (DoaP). In the Soviet Union,
literature was to respond to social demand. The proletarians in literature had two goals: to root out
class alien culture, and to create new art forms in its place. The Cultural Revolution changed the face
of mass culture by means of industrialization and collectivization. Centralized institutions took over
local cultural production. On April 23, 1932, the Central Committee issued a decree On Restructuring
Literary Artistic Organizations , this created the new Writers Union. (PW)
Like many works of literature, One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich may be seen as a social
commentary on the Soviet Union. The

The Copyright Clause Of The State Of Washington Should...
The Supreme Court has tried to explain that the Copyright Clause of the Constitution was intended to
establish independent, entrepreneurial, self sustaining authorship and publishing as the means of
serving the public interest in securing the production of valuable literary and scientific works. To that
one must ask what are the consequences of remix? When I think about it remixing has left a positive
and inferior aspect of life for many people. When people are able to steal or copy the work of an
individual without any consequence they are sending a clear message saying that they are free of the
law. Therefore, I propose that the copyright office of the state of Washington should change the
copyright policy of remixing so that it may benefit more people than just the original artist.
What are the common consequences of remixing? According to Jenkins, The rise of disco culture in
the 70s inspired producers to cut longer extended versions of singles so club patrons could weed out
the songs they liked for more than the usual three to four minutes (Jenkins). I believe that if true artists
fear that their music may be remixed then they may not do it to their best ability. Now,
imitation/remixing in art is not only all right, but it is encouraged, and using someone else s sound,
idea, etc. is considered flattery. According to UC Davis professor of law Thomas W. Joo said, Most
copyright scholars agree that this power is inimical to semiotic democracy and that reforming

Betty Friedan s The Feminist Analysis
In 1963, Betty Friedan, a feminist activist, wrote a book called The Feminine Mystique, which she
criticized the ideal image of a woman s role in society is to become a mother, wife, and housewife.
She said, When she [woman] stopped conforming to the conventional picture of femininity she finally
began to enjoy being a woman (Friedan 465). Here, Friedan is saying society plays an immense role in
telling how women should behave in accordance with their assigned gender roles and biological sexes.
For instance, women should take up the caregiver role in a family because they show more feelings
and sympathy. Yet, this gender construction impedes them to form their identities, seek satisfaction
and freedom in lives. Once these gender labels and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to chapter seven of Patricia Mayer Spacks s The Female Imagination: A Literary and
Psychological Investigation of Women s Writing, she claims marriage leaves no space for women
(79). Here, Spacks is suggesting personal space is essentially significant as personal freedom.
Consider if a woman does not feel she has enough space in a relationship, that means her granted
freedom is restricted too because personal space is created when the other half is willing to give you
liberty to do what you want without questioning. Clearly, Louise is not given that space and freedom
in her marriage. For example, she describes her husband s powerful will bending hers (Chopin 525).
Although Louise does not mention whether her husband has abused her, the description that she gives
about him indicates she lives a life of imprisonment. In other words, she sees the house she is living as
a prison in which liberty, happiness, and personal space are unreachable. By making this comparison
and providing this source of information about Mr. Mallard, Chopin has effectively allowed readers to
understand Louise s attitudes and opinions toward her husband. Moreover, she has successfully
appealed to the female readers pathos because they will feel sympathetic and angry toward Louise s
situation as Chopin s choice of using the word bending shows Louise undergoes

Business Plan Miami City
My vision for Miami County is going to involve a lot of change. The first thing I would want to do the
most work and change is the main part of Miami County which is the area which has the courthouse
and the stores beside it. Most buildings that Miami County has have been there for many years, family
owned, and have never been changed to fit the more modern times. Therefore this where the change
would come in and we would start to redo the buildings and make them more attractive and bigger.
Doing this would take a while and a lot of money but it would benefit the whole county in the end by
attracting more people to visit miami county, more people visiting means that there will be more
money spent to the businesses. After a while the businesses that are in the buildings will pay for
themselves and then soon Miami County can get back on its feet and bring in other businesses which
will than make more jobs. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Kokomo has more restaurants, grocery stores, etc. The biggest attraction in my opinion to Kokomo is
the Markland mall which has a variety things to buy there. What I think we should do is put a mall of
our own in Miami County. This would save people the drive all the out to Kokomo to buy anything,
but just a mall is only going to supply clothes, shoes, and things along that line.
We also need a better grocery store. Kroger is a good place but is not close to Sam s Club or a Wal
Mart s of food and items. How I think we could fit all these stores in is by getting rid of Save A Lot
and all those businesses around in that corner and put in a mall. The people working in the old shops
could now work in the new ones. This provides a lot of space for many stores in the mall and we could
also expand later on. Grocery store wise need to get Kmart out of Miami County. By getting rid of it

Devolution And The Scottish Parliament Essay
Within the United Kingdom, a recurring issue has been raised regarding the political position of
Scotland and how the Scottish Parliament could better govern the country. To establish whether the
quality of life could be improved for the Scottish people, key events, devolution, and the Scottish
Parliament must be evaluated and analysed. The argument for greater power in decision making and
the ability to implement change for the citizens of Scotland, has been central to Scottish politics for
some time.
The process of establishing devolution for Scotland began with the Scotland Act 1978, which made
way for a referendum on devolution and attempted to gain more power and legislature abilities for
Scotland. The rise of the SNP forced the Labour Government of James Callaghan to react. The terms
of this Act stated 40% of the entire electorate had to vote yes for devolution and the establishment of a
Scottish Assembly, this included those who did not vote which were counted as a no vote. The 1979

Abstract
The current environment, for Riordan s departments, is requiring increased labor in order to process
information. The slow consolidation of the operational processes of two divisions with different
operation software has become a financial threat to Riordan Manufacturing. Each of the divisions
lacks modern technology that is needed to run a highly efficient corporation. Therefore, there is not
enough information being shared between customers, sales, finance, manufacturing, and management.
The upgrades will make their performance consistent with more rapidly and more efficient company
locations; corporate headquarters, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is because of their global manufacturing facilities and the duplicity of the manual data entry
processes. When the raw material is received, at the loading dock, the material is manually compared
to shipping documents that a supervisor has against a schedule of incoming orders. Once comparisons
have been finished, the receiving team will unload the trucks and move the raw material into the
material holding area located on the factory floor. At the end of each day, the supervisor gives the
receiving logs raw materials unloaded and the associated truckers shipping documents to an inventory
clerk. The inventory clerk takes all of the related information from the raw materials receipts and
enters them into the inventory system. The data includes the type of material received, the vendor the
material was purchased from, and the quantity of material. The raw material located on the factory
floor is used during the various manufacturing operations. The amount of raw material that gets used
during the day is manually written on the raw material usage form given to the inventory clerk. The
inventory clerk receives the form and enters the raw material usage into the inventory system. At the
end of the each day, the manufacturing team will submit a form to the inventory clerk listing the
number of sub assembles, and ending products finished for that day. The sales department finalizes the
requested orders. The sales

Wav File Analysis
To compare these two file formats properly, I loaded them both into my iTunes and put them side by
side so I could easily click from one to the other. I did this because it is very hard for me to remember
the differences between two versions of the same song without hearing the exact same part
immediately after each other. Luckily for me, this song has some very distinct changes between its
mp3 file and its wav file. However, when I began listening to the mp3 file I had trouble hearing it
properly which led me to have to fiddle with volume knobs. When I then loaded the wav file I was
completely blown away by the brightness and fullness of the sound as opposed to the trouble I had
with the mp3 format. I really felt like I was apart of the performance ... Show more content on

Without that original recording or the one that had the specific deformity, how could I tell what I was

what I am supposed to be hearing, I can not always hear it as everyone else does. Reverberation is the
one sound aspect that I can hear pretty consistently since it is the continuation of a sound that can
obviously be heard and counted after the beginning of the note. I hear this specifically in the drums
and cymbals of this song and it is my favorite feature since it I enjoy reverb the most in the music I

Analysis Of Why We Fear The Unknown, By Jeffrey Winters
Throughout human history, before the 19th century the role of the african people has always been
unknown and mysterious to the Europeans. Based on a psychology article written by Jeffrey Winters
titled Why we fear the unknown from psychology today stated that, we can be conditioned to fear or
discriminate against those who differ from ourselves by characteristics as superficial as eye color.
Even simple things such as ideas and idologies can contribute to fear (Winters, 1). This statement was
backed by a study that was conducted by Harvard about how some people showed some fear when
they see a middle eastern man at an airport, and these people didn t even consider themselves superior
toward the middle eastern people. Granted these studies

The Worst Mountain Accident In The History Of Everest Summary
Summary It is the worst mountain accident in the history of Everest. Rob Hall and Scott Fischer, who
were professional mountaineers, each of them had established commercial climbing companies named
Adventure Consultant for Hall, Mountain Madness for Fischer. They had plenty experiences of
climbing 8000ers mountains, and both of them had fully confidence about coming back from Mount

In 1996, the two teams guided amateur climbers who participated by paying a large amount of
participation fee, and took them to the summit of Mount Everest. The two leaders were veterans of
climbing many of highest mountains, therefore their expenditures were not only sponsored by
participants but also funds from sponsors.

The Different Presentations of Female Villany in...
Female villainy is explored through Shakespeare s tragic antagonist Lady Macbeth, a dominant and
manipulative temptress who fights against the role a patriarchal society has granted her. Similarly in
Browning s dramatic monologue The Laboratory , we hear the voice of a subversive and emotionally
disturbed jilted lover, preparing a poison for her rival in love. In contrast, in romantic poet Keats
ballad La Belle Dame Sans Merci , female villainy is developed from the perspective of a knight at
arms , retelling his experiences with a femme fatale whom like LM, sexually manipulates her lover.
Similarly in Browning s dramatic monologue My Last Duchess the reader is introduced to the young
and naive wife of an arrogant duke, whose attempts to demonize her result in her untimely death. The
two poems told by men leave the reader questioning their reliability in an endemically misogynistic
society.
Shakespeare portrays LM as predominant woman who refuses to conform to the expectations of a
patriarchal society. From the perspective of a Jacobean audience, which believed that women were
submissive and obedient, LM s immediate plan for regicide comes as a great shock. It establishes the
theme of female villainy from the beginning of the play. The conventional 16th century woman was
also expected to embrace their femininity; Shakespeare uses explicit and unequivocal language to
convey a corrupted LM who desires to relinquish every fibre of human tenderness, maternal instinct

Disability And The Justification Of Inequality In American...
While disability rights and awareness have advanced, disabled people have not been able to wrest total
control of the discrimination placed upon them due to the way society uses the idea of disability as a
metaphor signifying human incapacity. In Douglas C. Baynton s, Disability and the Justification of
inequality in American History, he analyzes the controlling metaphor of disability through race.
Similarly watching Donald Trump s infamous speech where he mocks a disabled reporter shows how
the metaphor also relates to hierarchal inferiority. Throughout history, American culture has come to
define disability as a social burden. Metaphors of disability are utilized in order to justify society s
exclusionary stance towards different or abnormal people. Examples of the usage of this metaphor are
omnipresent. Starting in elementary school, children who learn at a slower pace than others become
categorized as handicapped. In daily life and informal conversation the question, Are you retarded?
Berates someone for asking a perceived obvious question. Society has become accustomed to using
the term disability and other slang referring to disability as a synonym for stupid or incompetent.
Many times it goes further than simply rhetoric; the able bodied, even supposedly fair figures such as
The President of the United States, can use a representation of disabled people to make a point or
reference incompetence in others. This, in turn, further ostracizes disabled people and

History Of The California Gold Rush
The California Gold Rush was an extraordinary event that made everyone crazy for gold. This event
took place in Coloma, California. When storekeeper, James Marshall, found gold at John A. Sutter s
Sutter Mill on January 24, 1848. He discovered that the rivers were filled with gold and tried to keep
the secret to himself. People soon grew suspicious of the man so they took a trip to the sawmill. The
men who when to the sawmill came back with gold dust. Once they heard that someone had found
gold anyone was desperate for gold. From that point on the race for gold was on. People looked
wherever they could in hopes of finding gold. Men would depart to search for gold, which left
numerous amounts of women to do the work their husbands would leave.

exploiting our emotions and attacking the very things that advertisers know will get out attention such
as, love and relationships, they easily get away with it because they use what makes us vulnerable. It
is also said in Killing Us Softly 4 that, almost every aspect of popular culture is really all about
marketing . With Americans seeing thousands of ads a day and all of them attacking some part of our
being and emotions it s easy for us to not even notice that there is damage being done. This is where
the advertising companies excel because they know that no one is going to see a commercial for a car
as being a harmful attribute to our sexual relationships or a video of a hurt animal affecting our
emotions into buying animals. It s all a game that advertisers play, a game that they are winning, as
Jean Kilbourne says, to a great extent they tell us who we are, and who we should be (Killing Us
Softly 4). They have this subtle yet deadly power over us that s strong enough to change our own self
and most importantly, the relationships we have or will

Hannibal’s Tactical Defeat of The Roman Army at Cannae Essay
The battle of Cannae, between the Carthaginian general Hannibal and the larger Roman army under
the command of consuls Lucius Aemilius Paulus and Gaius Terentius Varro, in 216 B.C., still serves as
one of the most influential tactical battles in history. Two enemy forces were to face off using very
different tactics. The Roman Empire had succeeded in amassing a staggering 50,000 or greater
number of infantry troops and a disputed 6,000 cavalry troops. The Roman army was to use its vast
numbers to subdue the smaller numbered forces of the Carthaginian army using sheer force. Hannibal

The Carthaginian army was facing north. It was a tactical advantage for Hannibal s army. His forced
his opponent to battle facing the heat of Italian sun and weighed down by the weight of their armor.
The Carthaginian army formed a similar formation.
According to (Cavazzi):
Hannibal first masked his moves as he drew up his army, by placing his light slingers and spearmen at
the front. Behind them, he positioned his Celtic and Spanish swordsmen in a crescent in the center. On
his left wing, he stationed his Celtic and Spanish heavy cavalry; on the right, he stationed his light
Numidia cavalry.
Both sides engaged their infantry forces in skirmishes at the center. Hannibal, familiar with the Roman
style of fight, knew the Roman elite would ride on the right. The Romans viewed their allies as not
being noble, and would not ride together with their partner. This allowed Hannibal to place his heavy
Celtic and Iberian cavalry on his left to face the Roman cavalry. Hannibal s cavalry outnumbered the
Romans and was able to annihilate them on the right side of their formation. The Roman infantry in
the center continued to engage Hannibal s forces. The repeated attacks on Hannibal s infantry forced
them from a convex to a concave formation. Roman leadership, anticipating breaking the Carthaginian
line, continued to push troops into the center. Roman

The Rube Goldberg Machine Contest (RGMC) is named after the late cartoonist Reuben Lucius

For 55 years the award winning engineer turned cartoonist drew machines and contraptions that

The Nuclear Of Nuclear Weapons
Before the Second World War, nuclear weapons did not exist. However, by the end of the Second
World War, this was not the case. The United States initiated a top secret program code named the
Manhattan Project. This project brought some of the greatest minds of the world together with the goal
of developing nuclear weapons. The United States successfully tested its first nuclear bomb in New
Mexico on July 16th, 1945. Three weeks later two atomic bombs had been dropped on the cities of
Hiroshima and Nagasaki in Japan, the only use of nuclear weapons in wartime. The atomic age had
begun and the race to acquire nuclear technology for peaceful and non peaceful purposes started
around the globe. The United States was the first and only state to posse nuclear weapon but that has
changed over the last seventy years. Currently the United States, Russian Federation, United
Kingdom, France, Israel, India, Pakistan, China and North Korea have active nuclear arsenals.
Attempts to limit, or stop the spread of nuclear weapons immediately, emerged after the first tests in

Well known speaker, writer, and so much more, Martin Luther King Jr., in his letter, Letter from
Birmingham Jail, provides a powerful and insightful look into what it is like being a black person
during the time when America was in a battle, so to speak, against segregation. Kings purpose is to
provide his readers, eight clergymen whom called his actions unwise and untimely (King 800), with
an insight on what it is like trying to make a change in the world through peaceful negotiation but

Cultural Differences In Ethnographic Research
The data collected from this study and numerous cases of media use suggest that even if the
stereotypes towards society can be positive and have good associations, the tendency of humans to
perceive theses cultural differences as barriers and negative perception is significantly powerful. This
situation can also be correlated with a major focus on mass media to portray the Latino culture with a
focus on the social problems derived from the illegal and undocumented immigrants. It is reasonable
to state that just one side of the panorama is being portrayed, which has led to a distortion of
knowledge. The first challenge for breaking stereotypes consist that mass media need compromise to

On the other hand, it is explicit that there are some limitations for this proposition, the economic force

Politics and history through an alternative path to self rule
Lagaan (2001), through the setting of Hindi cinema and the popular appeal of cricket, charts an
alternative history of India, from the colonised past of 1893 to an ideal post colonial future. Using
elements of pop culture, the director Ashutosh Gowarikar transforms the singularity of Champaneer s
struggle against triple lagaan, into a microcosm of an Indian nation s ideal path toward self rule.
Notably, this self rule is ideologically centred ex ante on Gandhi s vision of self sufficient village
units, as mentioned in Hind Swaraj . In doing so, Gowarikar is able to (a) tell the historical tale of
colonial rule and oppression in India, and (b) through dealing with Champaneer s internal struggles
toward becoming a self sufficient village unit, highlight current thorny issues of Indian politics.
Gowarikar uses the popularity of cricket in India as a catalyst for a nationalistic struggle. Although the
wager is based on the amelioration of economic conditions for Champaneer (namely triple lagaan
versus no lagaan), the bet transforms into a struggle for independence and self rule through the
medium of cricket. To the audience, cricket gives this marginalised, hitherto unknown village a
(notably non violent) medium with which they can resist colonial oppression. While the villagers fight
for the right to pay no tax for three years, the audience is invited to interpret

Accounting for Income Taxes
According to Accounting Theory: Contemporary Accounting Issues by Evans, accountants have
developed two alternative approaches to accounting for income taxes, which are the cash method and
the allocation method. The cash method is described as a simple and direct approach. The amount of
income taxes actually paid for the year is reported on the Income Statement. The amount comes from
the firm s income tax return and fit is not adjusted in any way. Therefore, the firm s actual transaction
to record its income tax liability is the basis for the amount of the income tax expense reported on the
Income Statement. The allocation method is a bit different. The actual amount of tax that is paid in the

Because tax allocation was so complex at the time due to changes in the rates, FASB established an
implementation group for tax allocation in 1988 and deferred implementation of SFAS No. 96. After
FASB issued a special report in 1989 on implementation issues, complications led to the deferral of
SFAS No. 96 again, until 1992, which shows the difficulty of obtaining a resolution on tax allocation
issues.
SFAS NO. 109 FASB issued this statement to replace the complex SFAS No. 96 which was concerned
with the recognition of deferred income taxes. SFAS No. 109 requires that deferred tax liabilities for
all taxable temporary differences and deferred tax assets for all deductible temporary differences and
tax credit and operating loss carry forwards be recognized. The Balance Sheet approach is used.
Deferred income tax assets and liabilities represent assets and liabilities instead of residual deferred
charges and credits. Under the liability method, an enterprise recognizes a deferred tax asset or a
deferred tax liability for the future income tax effects of the difference between the tax basis of the
asset or liability and its reported amount in the financial statements.
Accounting for income taxes continues to be a source of controversy and difficulty for accounting
standard setters. This is corroborated by the fact that the APB and the FASB have three financial

Oceania in George Orwell s 1984 appears to be an exceptional place. As the novel progresses, it
becomes clear that Oceania is quite the opposite. The people are suffering, limited in every aspect, and
always being watched. Even Newspeak, which they are working to perfect, would limit their thought
and speech. The purpose of Newspeak was not only to provide a medium of expression for the
worldview and mental habits proper to the devotees of Ingsoc, but to make all other modes of thought
impossible, (Orwell 303). Oceania is a dystopia as a result ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They didn t want to keep the power for the protection or well being of the people, they wanted it to
better the party. The inner party did whatever it would take to prevent an uprising which could result
in the loss of power. Orwell uses war as a form of mind control to show how a government can
distract and redirect their population s attention by creating one common enemy for everyone to hate
(Glover). If the government can get all their people to unite and hate the common enemy, that allows
them to have the distraction they need to keep their power, change history, and everything else they do
to restrict the people. The mutual enemy serves only as a direction of attention to allow the
government to get away with everything, as well as a method to show their people what they can do.
Atomic warfare made total war unthinkable, but it suits the political leaders of Oceania, Eurasia and
Eastasia to help them control their population and keep them in a constant state of fear (Knapp). In
that sense, the government uses fear not to keep the people hidden, but in hopes that the people stay

How Christmas Has Changed Over Time
History has affected many things over the years. However, people and places aren t the only things
that were affected by our history, but the way we celebrate Christmas has been changed too. Although
Christmas is still a very traditional holiday, the introduction of new and more modern things has
shaped the way we celebrate this incredible holiday today. How we celebrate Christmas has changed a
lot due to the growth of other religions, the invention of technology, and the growth of conflicts in
certain areas. First, as more and more religions have started and increased in popularity, Christmas has
adjusted. However, none of the new religions have ever wanted to stop Christmas. In Christmas Is Not
Just For Christians by Siddique, A Hindu, named Ramalingam stated, I don t know anyone who
actually wants to ban Christmas and most Hindus and Muslims that I know actually celebrate
Christmas (Siddique 1). Instead, they volunteer to work at the Christian charities so that the Christians
can celebrate Christmas (Siddique p.1). This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Mara Hughes from 5 Ways Technology Changed the Holidays, technology has caused
people to shop for gifts online, call their relatives online, send online Christmas cards, and check and
use the Santa Tracker (Hughes p.1). This means that gifts are easier to buy because you can sit at
home all day, rather than going shopping in the cold. People can see their relatives and friends from
across the world face to face through a video call rather than having to fly out once a year. Christmas
cards are now sent through email with season s greetings rather than printed off and sent in the mail.
Santa can now be tracked throughout the months of November and December, making children s
spirits rise with excitement as they send Santa their wish list to Santa over the

Literary Analysis Of Gail Godwin s A Sorrowful Woman
A Sorrowful (and now dead) Woman
OR The Good (and now dead) Housewife
OR The Life and Death of the World s Best Mom
Gail Godwin s Sorrowful Woman develops the message that the archetypal role of mother and wife is
so constricting and limiting as to force the mother character to end her life. The end of the story
demonstrates the power of rhetoric, contrast, and detached narration in creating the text s message. A
Sorrowful Woman features a superficially simple narration style. Now the days were too short. She
was always busy, Stylistically clipped, with a clear passive, detached, voice the narration style seems
to be a banal, unimportant feature of the text. Yet the exact mendacity that prompts this description
actually serves as a prerequisite to developing an understanding for the principal character s mindset,
and consequently the theme of the text. The last passage contains numerous examples of detached
narration but the clearest occurs when She was always busy. She woke with the first bird. Worked till
the sun set. No time for hair brushing. Her fingers raced the hours. The concise, third person narration
in this segment allows the reader to experience the slightly off viewpoint of the mother. Specifically,
given the lack of motivation present through the text coupled with the concluding suicide it becomes
evident in the text that the mother is suffering from depression. Given the societal stigma surrounding
mental illness authors generally face an uphill

Theme Of Osamu Dazai s The Setting Sun
The setting of Osamu Dazai s The Setting Sun and the history of Japan play a major role in the story
and its theme; in fact, Japan s culture and the events of the 1940s, when is was written, seem to be the
catalyst for its creation. The title is a reference specifically to the fall of ancient Japanese culture as an
actual practice, that is, its removal from everyday use. The actions and motivations of the characters
can be linked directly to the Japanese mindset and its unusually close relationship to death, as seen
throughout history. For example, Kazuko references one of Japan s most beloved novels in her letters
to Uehara: Genji Monogatari, or The Tale of Genji, which was written by an aristocratic woman of the
Heian period known as Murasaki Shikibu (97). When expressing her love for him and her desire to
mother his child, she compares her passion to the iconic novel, exalting those days of Genji, Shikibu s
main character, as the time of ideal relationships. The Tale of Genji indeed explores relationships and
proper and improper behavior, but it also illustrates just how deep death runs in Japanese culture; a
major theme of the world s first great novel is evanescence and the beauty of impermanence. In fact,
the death of the main character Genji s true love Murasaki, although sorrowful, is described with great
care:
Despite the fact that she was terribly emaciated, Murasaki still looked remarkable; the loss of weight
had, if anything, distilled her beauty, which now

NRVNA Essay
Review 20 NRVNA Review About NRVNA NRVNA is one of the latest online slots released by
NetEnt, and it certainly looks to foot the bill for anyone after something different. NRVNA
pronounced Nirvana comes with an uplifting theme players are sure to love. With 5 reels and 30
adjustable paylines, NRVNA offers something unique that could very well be another flagship for the
NetEnt brand. The reality is that every big time developer needs to keep making high end slot games
to remain atop the pile as it were. This is because if they don t other industry names can make up
ground and really pull away the punters. For this very reason, flagship games are absolutely crucial to
a developer s success story. NetEnt has put plenty of stock ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The biggest and best special feature is no doubt the NRVNA Wheel. When you reach the end of your

inner wheel filled with multipliers, and the outer reel that determines the number of free slots. Betting
and Wagering Limits NRVNA comes with a jackpot of 2,000 coins; which is yours if you can land five
of the cherry symbols on an active payline. With the help of some free spins and multipliers, you can
make the most out of the game and win a potential mega jackpot of 966,000 coins. That s one
impressive jackpot to say the least, with this going a long way to blow away what all competing online
slots game has to offer. How to Play NRVNA If you want to know how to play NRVNA then you have
to start by choosing the size of your bet in coins. There is a minimum of 0.01 and a maximum of 0.50.

gives you a total maximum bet of 150. After placing your bet, just press the spin button and watch as
the reels turn. There is also an autoplay feature for those who want the reels to spin themselves. When
you look at the betting options within this game, NetEnt have worked really hard to make sure every
base is covered. Those who want to bet small and take it easy can do, but those that want to bet big
and hit the reels hard can do so as well. NRVNA Final Verdict Flagship games are a

Z s score fell in the 1st percentile in both auditory comprehension and expressive communication. What this means is that Z scored as well or better than 1% of the sample population of children her age, but 99% of other children her age achieved a higher score. e. Age equivalent scores represent the average score of the children in the sample for a particular age group in a specific area. For example, Z got an age equivalent score of 7 months for auditory comprehension. This does not mean that Z understand language at a 7 month old level, but rather that Z s score corresponds to the average raw score obtained by 7 month olds in the PLS 5 sample. On the expressive communication section, Z s score translated to an age equivalency of 5 months, meaning that her raw score corresponds to the average raw score obtained by 5 month olds in the PLS 5 sample. These scores try to compare children to the average X year old, but language development is remarkably variable and the average child does not really exist. We like to look as average as more of a range, rather than a set level of achievement. 2. Short term Session goals: a. • 7. Literary Devices In A Prayer For Owen Meany When reading John Irving s, A Prayer for Owen Meany, he uses a plethora of literary devices and techniques. Out of the list that he displays in this novel, there are three elements that really draw through the entire piece. These being: foreshadowing, irony, and setting. The three listed are the devices Irving uses to the most extent and impact the story more than all the others. Foreshadowing is the clearest to spot throughout the chapters. Launching in the second chapter, The Armadillo, was when Owen Meany first came across as a Christ figure. Johnny s cousins come to 80 Front Street to visit for Thanksgiving and Owen Meany is upstairs in the attic with Johnny. Hesitantly, Johnny introduces the cousins to Owen, scared of how they ll treat Owen, or how they ll treat Johnny for being friends with him. After the cousins declare how wimpy Owen is and make fun of his voice, they see Owen in the attic with his arms behind his back (being armless) and the sun shining from behind him, making him look like the ultimate Christ figure. Hester even stated to Johnny that she didn t even think he was human. Johnny connects Owen to God, thinking that there is no doubt that, in the dazzling configurations of the sun that poured through the attic in skylights, he look looked like a descending angel a tiny but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An example of symbolism could even be Owen Meany representing Christ or Johnny s guardian angel who ends up cutting off Johnny s trigger finger for his protection from the draft to Vietnam. Armlessness is also a symbol that Irving utilizes through out the entire novel, with different objects and characters representing the disadvantages of missing a body part or the helplessness of some people, or relationships with God and surrendering to their beliefs. Not only was he a successful industrialist, but an art patron and a philanthropist. He was one of the most important people that helped put Pittsburgh on the map. It all started in a small town in Westmoreland county called West Overton. He was born in 1849 into a wealthy family not his parents but his grandfather had some money. His grandfather was Abraham Overholt, who was a wealthy rye whiskey distiller. As he was growing up his grandfather gave him a job as a bookkeeper. While recovering from his attack at his home his son Clayton died shortly after birth. Frick also didn t have much public support after the Homestead violence. Creation Of The Sistine Chapel s Accomplishments In 1508, Pope Julius II wanted a geometric ornament and the placement of twelve Disciples in spandrels (spaces between two arches) around the decoration to cover up the original blue ceiling covered in stars. The first stories showcased are The Creation of the Heavens and Earth, The Creation of Adam and Eve, The Expulsion from the Garden of Eden, and the story of Noah and the Great Flood. In 1979, a chemical compound, AB 57, was tested on the East Wall. AB 57 is a calcium dissolving solvent, a solution made up of ammonium bicarbonate, sodium bicarbonate, desogen (anti fungal acid), and carboxyl methyl cellulose, which is then dissolved in water, developed by Professor Paulo and Laura Mora. It was made to remove insoluble salts and materials that had been incrusted into the paintings, and ended up being able to bring very bright colors into the painting. • 13. Barriers Of Communication In Communication A business setting requires that the people concerned communicate effectively with each other in order to reduce negative consequences that would be as a result of misunderstanding or damaged relationship. There are many barriers that would hinder any business communication process. These includes cliché, jargon, slang, sexist and racist language, euphemism, double speak. This essay briefly described these barriers to communication in a business setting. Cliché is a barrier of communication because it entails the use of once clever word or phrase that has lost its impact through overuse (McLean, 2010, p.58). An example of a cliché would be this is just but the wars of cats and dogs . In a business setting, the use of a cliché would undermined the seriousness with which the meeting at hand is handled. When it is used carelessly, the quorum may find it silly or boring and that may cause the listeners to ignore the message they are intended to pass. When this happens, then a cliché becomes an obstacle to the effectiveness of communication. Jargon on the other hand is the use of words which may not be familiar to everyone but to only those who frequently use it for instance the people in the same profession. An example of this would be Ceasar Pass to mean a kind of pass in soccer. Assuming that jargons are used in a business setting to audience who do not understand their specific meanings, do you think the message will be passed effectively? While Clinton bundles that without stop and frisk crimes including murders are down which is also true, but as Trump said murders are going up after stop and frisk was no longer in use. They were both right in this instance, because murders were at their third lowest, but murders were at their lowest when stop and frisk was invoked, and with this argument Trump took over the logical appeal for the debate. Alexander Solzhenitsyn s classic novel, One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich is a short novel about a prisoner trying to survive a Soviet labor camp, known as the Gulag. Solzhenitsyn s writing style and subject matter is similar to the pre Revolutionary writers than the writers of his time. Socialist realism was the style of literature that was widely spread throughout Joseph Stalin s Soviet Union. Therefore, One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich consists mainly of socialist realist literature intended to function as Communist propaganda, through optimistic and positive portrayals of workers satisfaction on collective farms and in government factories. Thesis. The theme of work is prevalent throughout the novella and throughout the history of the Soviet Union. Soviet literature was increasing in popularity beginning in 1921. (DoaP). In the Soviet Union, literature was to respond to social demand. The proletarians in literature had two goals: to root out class alien culture, and to create new art forms in its place. The Cultural Revolution changed the face of mass culture by means of industrialization and collectivization. Centralized institutions took over local cultural production. On April 23, 1932, the Central Committee issued a decree On Restructuring Literary Artistic Organizations , this created the new Writers Union. The Supreme Court has tried to explain that the Copyright Clause of the Constitution was intended to establish independent, entrepreneurial, self sustaining authorship and publishing as the means of serving the public interest in securing the production of valuable literary and scientific works. To that one must ask what are the consequences of remix? When I think about it remixing has left a positive and inferior aspect of life for many people. When people are able to steal or copy the work of an individual without any consequence they are sending a clear message saying that they are free of the law. Therefore, I propose that the copyright office of the state of Washington should change the copyright policy of remixing so that it may benefit more people than just the original artist. What are the common consequences of remixing? According to Jenkins, The rise of disco culture in the 70s inspired producers to cut longer extended versions of singles so club patrons could weed out the songs they liked for more than the usual three to four minutes (Jenkins). I believe that if true artists fear that their music may be remixed then they may not do it to their best ability. Now, imitation/remixing in art is not only all right, but it is encouraged, and using someone else s sound, idea, etc. is considered flattery. According to UC Davis professor of law Thomas W. Joo said, Most copyright scholars agree that this power is inimical to semiotic democracy and that reforming ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Betty Friedan s The Feminist Analysis In 1963, Betty Friedan, a feminist activist, wrote a book called The Feminine Mystique, which she criticized the ideal image of a woman s role in society is to become a mother, wife, and housewife. She said, When she [woman] stopped conforming to the conventional picture of femininity she finally began to enjoy being a woman (Friedan 465). Here, Friedan is saying society plays an immense role in telling how women should behave in accordance with their assigned gender roles and biological sexes. For instance, women should take up the caregiver role in a family because they show more feelings and sympathy. Yet, this gender construction impedes them to form their identities, seek satisfaction and freedom in lives. Once these gender labels and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to chapter seven of Patricia Mayer Spacks s The Female Imagination: A Literary and Psychological Investigation of Women s Writing, she claims marriage leaves no space for women (79). Here, Spacks is suggesting personal space is essentially significant as personal freedom. Consider if a woman does not feel she has enough space in a relationship, that means her granted freedom is restricted too because personal space is created when the other half is willing to give you liberty to do what you want without questioning. Clearly, Louise is not given that space and freedom in her marriage. For example, she describes her husband s powerful will bending hers (Chopin 525). Although Louise does not mention whether her husband has abused her, the description that she gives about him indicates she lives a life of imprisonment. In other words, she sees the house she is living as a prison in which liberty, happiness, and personal space are unreachable. By making this comparison and providing this source of information about Mr. Mallard, Chopin has effectively allowed readers to understand Louise s attitudes and opinions toward her husband. Moreover, she has successfully appealed to the female readers pathos because they will feel sympathetic and angry toward Louise s situation as Chopin s choice of using the word bending shows Louise undergoes ... Devolution And The Scottish Parliament Essay Within the United Kingdom, a recurring issue has been raised regarding the political position of Scotland and how the Scottish Parliament could better govern the country. To establish whether the quality of life could be improved for the Scottish people, key events, devolution, and the Scottish Parliament must be evaluated and analysed. The argument for greater power in decision making and the ability to implement change for the citizens of Scotland, has been central to Scottish politics for some time. The process of establishing devolution for Scotland began with the Scotland Act 1978, which made way for a referendum on devolution and attempted to gain more power and legislature abilities for Scotland. The rise of the SNP forced the Labour Government of James Callaghan to react. The terms of this Act stated 40% of the entire electorate had to vote yes for devolution and the establishment of a Scottish Assembly, this included those who did not vote which were counted as a no vote. The 1979 Referendum, on 1st March, saw a majority of 52% in favour of devolution, to 48% against. At first glance it appears Scotland was successful in its referendum, however only 32.9% of the electorate had joined the majority, meaning the 40% required to achieve devolution was not met. With this failure to achieve devolution, the SNP backed a Tory motion of no confidence in the Labour government which saw the 1979 election being called by just one vote. • 26. The Different Presentations of Female Villany in... Female villainy is explored through Shakespeare s tragic antagonist Lady Macbeth, a dominant and manipulative temptress who fights against the role a patriarchal society has granted her. Similarly in Browning s dramatic monologue The Laboratory , we hear the voice of a subversive and emotionally disturbed jilted lover, preparing a poison for her rival in love. In contrast, in romantic poet Keats ballad La Belle Dame Sans Merci , female villainy is developed from the perspective of a knight at arms , retelling his experiences with a femme fatale whom like LM, sexually manipulates her lover. Similarly in Browning s dramatic monologue My Last Duchess the reader is introduced to the young and naive wife of an arrogant duke, whose attempts to demonize her result in her untimely death. The two poems told by men leave the reader questioning their reliability in an endemically misogynistic society. Shakespeare portrays LM as predominant woman who refuses to conform to the expectations of a patriarchal society. From the perspective of a Jacobean audience, which believed that women were submissive and obedient, LM s immediate plan for regicide comes as a great shock. It establishes the theme of female villainy from the beginning of the play. • 27. Disability And The Justification Of Inequality In American... While disability rights and awareness have advanced, disabled people have not been able to wrest total control of the discrimination placed upon them due to the way society uses the idea of disability as a metaphor signifying human incapacity. In Douglas C. Baynton s, Disability and the Justification of inequality in American History, he analyzes the controlling metaphor of disability through race. Similarly watching Donald Trump s infamous speech where he mocks a disabled reporter shows how the metaphor also relates to hierarchal inferiority. Throughout history, American culture has come to define disability as a social burden. Metaphors of disability are utilized in order to justify society s exclusionary stance towards different or abnormal people. Examples of the usage of this metaphor are omnipresent. Starting in elementary school, children who learn at a slower pace than others become categorized as handicapped. In daily life and informal conversation the question, Are you retarded? Berates someone for asking a perceived obvious question. Society has become accustomed to using the term disability and other slang referring to disability as a synonym for stupid or incompetent. Many times it goes further than simply rhetoric; the able bodied, even supposedly fair figures such as The President of the United States, can use a representation of disabled people to make a point or reference incompetence in others. Hannibal’s Tactical Defeat of The Roman Army at Cannae Essay The battle of Cannae, between the Carthaginian general Hannibal and the larger Roman army under the command of consuls Lucius Aemilius Paulus and Gaius Terentius Varro, in 216 B.C., still serves as one of the most influential tactical battles in history. Two enemy forces were to face off using very different tactics. The Roman Empire had succeeded in amassing a staggering 50,000 or greater number of infantry troops and a disputed 6,000 cavalry troops. The Roman army was to use its vast numbers to subdue the smaller numbered forces of the Carthaginian army using sheer force. It was a tactical advantage for Hannibal s army. His forced his opponent to battle facing the heat of Italian sun and weighed down by the weight of their armor. The Carthaginian army formed a similar formation. According to (Cavazzi): Hannibal first masked his moves as he drew up his army, by placing his light slingers and spearmen at the front. Behind them, he positioned his Celtic and Spanish swordsmen in a crescent in the center. On his left wing, he stationed his Celtic and Spanish heavy cavalry; on the right, he stationed his light Numidia cavalry. Both sides engaged their infantry forces in skirmishes at the center. Hannibal, familiar with the Roman style of fight, knew the Roman elite would ride on the right. The Romans viewed their allies as not being noble, and would not ride together with their partner. This allowed Hannibal to place his heavy Celtic and Iberian cavalry on his left to face the Roman cavalry. Hannibal s cavalry outnumbered the Romans and was able to annihilate them on the right side of their formation. The Roman infantry in the center continued to engage Hannibal s forces. The repeated attacks on Hannibal s infantry forced them from a convex to a concave formation. Roman leadership, anticipating breaking the Carthaginian line, continued to push troops into the center. Akhil Subramanian Salc 20200 29 May 2008 361411 Politics and history through an alternative path to self rule Lagaan (2001), through the setting of Hindi cinema and the popular appeal of cricket, charts an alternative history of India, from the colonised past of 1893 to an ideal post colonial future. Using elements of pop culture, the director Ashutosh Gowarikar transforms the singularity of Champaneer s struggle against triple lagaan, into a microcosm of an Indian nation s ideal path toward self rule. Notably, this self rule is ideologically centred ex ante on Gandhi s vision of self sufficient village units, as mentioned in Hind Swaraj . In doing so, Gowarikar is able to (a) tell the historical tale of colonial rule and oppression in India, and (b) through dealing with Champaneer s internal struggles toward becoming a self sufficient village unit, highlight current thorny issues of Indian politics. Gowarikar uses the popularity of cricket in India as a catalyst for a nationalistic struggle. Although the wager is based on the amelioration of economic conditions for Champaneer (namely triple lagaan versus no lagaan), the bet transforms into a struggle for independence and self rule through the medium of cricket. To the audience, cricket gives this marginalised, hitherto unknown village a (notably non violent) medium with which they can resist colonial oppression. The cash method is described as a simple and direct approach. The amount of income taxes actually paid for the year is reported on the Income Statement. The amount comes from the firm s income tax return and fit is not adjusted in any way. Therefore, the firm s actual transaction to record its income tax liability is the basis for the amount of the income tax expense reported on the Income Statement. Because tax allocation was so complex at the time due to changes in the rates, FASB established an implementation group for tax allocation in 1988 and deferred implementation of SFAS No. 96. SFAS NO. 109 FASB issued this statement to replace the complex SFAS No. 96 which was concerned with the recognition of deferred income taxes. SFAS No. 109 requires that deferred tax liabilities for all taxable temporary differences and deferred tax assets for all deductible temporary differences and tax credit and operating loss carry forwards be recognized. As the novel progresses, it becomes clear that Oceania is quite the opposite. The people are suffering, limited in every aspect, and always being watched. Even Newspeak, which they are working to perfect, would limit their thought and speech. Literary Analysis Of Gail Godwin s A Sorrowful Woman A Sorrowful (and now dead) Woman OR The Good (and now dead) Housewife OR The Life and Death of the World s Best Mom Gail Godwin s Sorrowful Woman develops the message that the archetypal role of mother and wife is so constricting and limiting as to force the mother character to end her life. The end of the story demonstrates the power of rhetoric, contrast, and detached narration in creating the text s message. A Sorrowful Woman features a superficially simple narration style. Now the days were too short. She was always busy, Stylistically clipped, with a clear passive, detached, voice the narration style seems to be a banal, unimportant feature of the text. Yet the exact mendacity that prompts this description actually serves as a prerequisite to developing an understanding for the principal character s mindset, and consequently the theme of the text. The last passage contains numerous examples of detached narration but the clearest occurs when She was always busy. She woke with the first bird. Worked till the sun set. No time for hair brushing. Her fingers raced the hours. The concise, third person narration in this segment allows the reader to experience the slightly off viewpoint of the mother. Specifically, given the lack of motivation present through the text coupled with the concluding suicide it becomes evident in the text that the mother is suffering from depression. Theme Of Osamu Dazai s The Setting Sun The setting of Osamu Dazai s The Setting Sun and the history of Japan play a major role in the story and its theme; in fact, Japan s culture and the events of the 1940s, when is was written, seem to be the catalyst for its creation. The title is a reference specifically to the fall of ancient Japanese culture as an actual practice, that is, its removal from everyday use. The actions and motivations of the characters can be linked directly to the Japanese mindset and its unusually close relationship to death, as seen throughout history. For example, Kazuko references one of Japan s most beloved novels in her letters to Uehara: Genji Monogatari, or The Tale of Genji, which was written by an aristocratic woman of the Heian period known as Murasaki Shikibu (97). When expressing her love for him and her desire to mother his child, she compares her passion to the iconic novel, exalting those days of Genji, Shikibu s main character, as the time of ideal relationships. The Tale of Genji indeed explores relationships and proper and improper behavior, but it also illustrates just how deep death runs in Japanese culture; a major theme of the world s first great novel is evanescence and the beauty of impermanence. In fact, the death of the main character Genji s true love Murasaki, although sorrowful, is described with great care: Despite the fact that she was terribly emaciated, Murasaki still looked remarkable; the loss of weight had, if anything, distilled her beauty, which now ...
