Standing at the gates of Holby South prison, Serena Campbell felt numb, she still didn t know why she
was here, what possessed her to accept the visitation card, she ignored all previous ones. They had
even been a ten year gap when she did not hear from him. Yet, something triggered her to make this
visit after so many years.
It all seemed like a blur the process of booking in, having her body and belongings searched, to
putting her things in a locker. It felt like it did not happen, and as soon as she grasped a sense of
reality, she found herself stood in the visitor s room, surrounded by criminals and their loving family
visitors. Even though she had not seen him for forty years, she could pick out her father like a shot.

Who Is Big Brother s Marionette In 1984

4 November 2016 Big Brother s Marionettes (Rubic)
All citizens in the ordinary world of 1984 do not, or acts as if they do not realize that every aspect of
their lives are being controlled by a symbolic government figure named Big Brother. By portraying a
decisive potentate, the government is able to manage citizen s lives as if they are all marionettes.
Many different mind control techniques are executed upon the society in 1984, such as the novel s
telescreens and the brainwashing of children; however, doublethink surpasses them all in terms of
conveying George Orwell s intended subject of psychological manipulation, which proves that it is
possible to believe anything that the government tells them, even while possessing information that
runs counter to propaganda.
A slogan from the Party that occurs throughout the novel and is the basic introduction to the idea of
doublethink is WAR IS PEACE. FREEDOM IS SLAVERY. IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH (Orwell,
4/16/26/104...). By weakening the ability of a citizen to think logically and forcing them to live and

Phytophthora which is responsible for the root rots is also known as jarrah dieback, cinnamon fungus
and wildflower dieback.
Most phytophthora species produces three types of spores, zoospores, oospores and chlamydospores.
Among these two major types found are zoospores and chlamydospores. Zoospores are formed in
sporangium. Each sporangium roughly produces 20 30 zoospores. Production of zoospores occurs
normally in moist conditions and around temperature range of 22 28°C. Two flagella helps their
motility and they can survive up to four days. On the other hand chlamydospores are produced when
conditions are unfavourable. They are also produced from mycelium, but they possess thick cell ...

Thurgood Marshall s Influence
Thurgood Marshall s impact and influence started at a young age with the development and guidance
from his parents, William and Norma. They taught both he and his brother the importance of education
and to think and learn. It was his father that exposed Thurgood and his brother to the aspects of the
courtroom and the bases and practices of law. Their father would often get both of them engaged in
discussions concerning cases observed in the court and promoted the need to debate their case. Both
their parents were engaged in the boys lives an ensured education was a priority ( Thurgood Marshall,
n.d.). Nevertheless as with any young boy in school, Thurgood did challenge some of his teachers and

Soft Body Caterpillar Robot More Efficient Than Current...
Adrian Hammer
Hypothesis:
Soft body caterpillar robot more efficient than current robots.
Topic:
To understand why the inspiration of the common caterpillar is used to create the next generation of
soft structure robots and what they will be used for once they are completed.
Description:
The caterpillar inspired robot is one of the first of its kind using a soft body to mimic that of its
inspired. This is one of the main major points of why I choose to pick this instead of any other biology
related topic simply because if it is the same size as a caterpillar it can be used in a vast majority of
different common day practices.
Relevance:
Since this a new improvement upon current robotic technology all its uses are currently unknown but
with the size of a caterpillar it can adapt to a variety of uses such as doctors. Currently doctors use
small cameras attached to a long wire to observe internals but now with this caterpillar it may be
possible to place this inside a body without the help of aesthetic in a few minutes instead of a lengthy
procedure.
Economically it can open up a variety of jobs in the robotics industry creating more work. This can
then be used to try new technologies, materials and replacing outdated technologies.
Ethically it can be used in a variety of medical practises. Just like stated above it can observe organs
and reduce surgery time. If someone had a blood clot inside them, instead of going into a lengthy
procedure of cutting someone open

In an Antique Land Essay
In Amitav Ghosh s, In an Antique Land , the author compares his life with that of a slave named
Bomma. He reveals that both men live in antique lands, foreign to their culture and surrounded by
very different people. Ghosh also relates the book to Percy Bysshe Shelly s poem Ozymandias, a piece
on mankind s hubris and the insignificance of the individual. Ghosh effectively juxtaposes Bomma s
life with his own as he tries to find himself and unlock the slaves past through the ancient papers of
the Cairo Geniza. Through historical details and antidotes, the author proves how a place can be both
antique and contemporary. The title of the book comes from not only Ghosh s study of the history of
the Middle East, but his observation on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His religion is a constant reminder of how he is an outcast yet he is also judging the culture he feels is
criticizing him. He sees them as outdated and disapproving while they see him as unusual and
mysterious. He is criticized for his religion and customs, and the children mock him in disbelief for
being Hindu. One little boy comments on his amazement with this foreign culture:
You mean, he said in rising disbelief, there are people in your country who are not circumcised?
In Arabic the word circumcise derives from a root that means
to purify ; to say of someone that they are uncircumcised is more or less to call them impure.
Yes, I answered, yes, many people in my country are
‘impure . I had no alternative; I was trapped by language. (62)
This is just one example of how Ghosh is treated as an outcast in the small town of no one of the small
religion. He does not fully understand the language or culture that surrounds him, which causes even
further confusion among the parties. This relates back to Shelly s poem because both the visitor and
the ancient are being observed and criticized.
While Ghosh realizes that the town will never respect why he worships cows or burns the dead, he
desperately tries to analyze the town he lives in. As he buries his head in letters from Ben Yiju, he
slowly puts together the relationship between

Symptoms And Treatment Of Clinical Depression
Recently, critics have questioned the ability of SSRIs to reduce the symptoms of clinical depression.
Dr. Hieronymous and his researchers believe high rates of unsuccessful clinical trials additionally fuel
negative critiques. The team from University of Gothenburg, Department of pharmacology set out to
investigate 32 past trials concerning new medications many containing similar compounds to those
found in common market SSRIs such as Paxil, Prozac, Celexa, and Zoloft. Greater than half of the
company sponsored SSRI trials, using common test protocols, demonstrated significant depression
relief regarding active drug versus placebo groups. Their resulting data points out possible depression
measuring defects as a possible source of trial failure, rather than solely SSRI drug ineffectiveness.
The Effect Parameter To prove a drug works, researchers must quantify significant patient symptom
differences before and after active treatment and differentiate these results against placebo effects. The
metric commonly used to measure SSRI impact regarding depressive symptom changes is the
Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HDRS), or more specifically HDRS 17. Dr. Max Hamilton s
article A Rating Scale for Depression , describes his depression scale design developed in the 1950s.
HDRS 17 analyses 17 different symptoms associated with depression where each is given a grade
reflecting symptom severity (0 to 4, or 0 to 2). A score of 0 represents an absent symptom while a

Underdog Chapter Summaries
I greatly enjoyed this book, any book about an underdog is my kind of book. It always reminds me of
my neighbor s father who owned a racehorse or two. There is a trail where he used to run them as if
they were at the racetrack. That sticks out to me for a reason grandfather would tell us that story every
time we smack that divot . This book is greatly enthralling and I ll read it again and maybe even
another time.
The first chapter I witnessed the destitutions Charles Howard prevailed over. Ordinarily, I can t
envisage just starting from a bicycle salesman and becoming an automobile millionaire. Although,
Howard agonized through so much his son passing, marriage falling through, and it was too much for
one man to ordeal in one lifetime. Working from humble beginnings Howard worked his way to
become an automobile millionaire. There is one statement that remains true arduous work trumps
talent. The trainers worked with Seabiscuit equaling a top athlete. During Seabiscuit s career skeptics
were abundant, they never believed in him, but Tom could see the potential that could be harnessed
from training and time. Considered a sleeper, Seabiscuit had hidden talent, and became the best. He
even was known to showboat a little when he obtained a sizeable lead in a race, that s my kind of
horse. Floundering in the starting gate was a problem of Seabiscuit, Tom ... Show more content on

should be read, even if you re not into sports or racehorses. A ornery colt was turned into the

achieve eternal glory in race history was what Howard and Smith had accomplished. Additionally, this
is by far one of the best books I have ever read. In retrospect, I m pretty sure he is the greatest

Misconceptions Of Herbal Medicine
Herbal medicine and therapy has become a rapidly increasing interest among today s people due to it s
supposed lack of harmful side effects and affordability. They often do a small bit of research and self
prescribe herbal remedies. In doing so however could lead to dangerous and terrible adverse affects.
To combat the misconceptions of herbal medicines, I have done research on the topic. In this essay, I
will describe what herbal medicine is, explore its history and origins, delve deeper into herbal
medicines and remedies used in the widely know concept traditional Chinese medicine, and discuss
the functions and control of modern herbal medicines. The word herb originated from the Latin word
herba, which refers to the green crops and grasses (Koopsen Young, 2009, p.280). The term 塗
erbalism” means 鍍he study and practice of using plant material for food, medicine, and health
promotion” (Koopsen Young, 2009, p.280). This definition of herbalism also refers to the use of
herbs to enhance the quality of life, both physically and spiritually (Koopsen, Young, 2009, p.280).
Herbal and botanical products, and phytomedicines are products made from botanicals used to treat
disease and maintain health while herbal supplements are made from plants and are used solely for
internal use (Herbal medicine, n.d.).The use of herbs for medical purposes goes back thousands of
millennia. There is evidence in an ancient Neanderthal burial from 60,000 years of herbs used for
medicine that

Nature In A Midsummer s Night Dream
There are numerous similarities between the nature of love and nature itself, as they are both chaotic.
We, as a race, are unfaithful creatures who withdraw from our choices dreadfully fast without much
thought. In A Midsummer s Night Dream, Demetrius, Lysander, and even Queen Titania, end up
distracted and shifting who they love regularly. Love shifts and becomes irregular often, yet most
would endure anything for it.
Love continually changes. Whether or not it s due to love juice is besides the point. (Demetrius to

Individuality Vs. Conformity In The Shining Houses By...
Individuality and conformity is a battle between being a leader and being a follower, finding out who
you are and your desires to be accepted by others. In Alice Munro s short story The Shining Houses
and Wallace Stevens poem Disillusionment of Ten O Clock , both the author and the poet shows how
being an individual is more valuable than being one of those conformed copies .
Is it better to stand out and compromise your values or is it better to stay comfortable in the crowd and
give into peer pressure? Often in our society we are forced to act in a certain way in order to be
considered normal and fit into a group, that is why a lot of people eventually conform. People conform
because they like the feeling of being accepted, and that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The poet mentions: the house are haunted by white night gowns. (Stevens, 1 2) Wearing white night
gowns when sleeping were a common thing, the poet said that the houses were being haunted because
it is scary how everybody looks the same at night. No one decide to wear something different or
colorful: None are green,/ Or purple with green rings,/ Or green with yellow rings/ Or yellow with
blue rings (3 6) These white night gowns symbolizes the dark side of conformity, the neighbor is being
haunted by these ghosts . The whiteness of these night gowns represents lack of imagination and
everybody were close minded. The old sailor were the only one in the poem who dares to dream and
be different from those white night gowns copies: Only, here and there, an old sailor,/ Drunk and
asleep in his bootss/ Catches Tigers/ In red weather. The poet used the old sailor to show how
individuality is better than conformity. Living for individuality is living for yourself, you will find true

Religion And Its Role Of A Peace Keeper By French...
Religion, as described by French Sociologist Émile Durkheim, connotes a unified system of beliefs
and practices, relative to sacred things (Durkheim, 1965). The word unified suggests religion plays the
role of a peace keeper, presenting individuals with a shared sense of understanding through the rituals,
as well as the belief in a higher power or God. Within a contemporary society, religion is arguably
playing a different role to that which it played during the early 20th century, a time throughout which
Durkheim s sociological influence and research was prominent. Contemporary, postmodern societies
are far more likely to use and exploit religion in a varying way, for many reasons technological
advances and media takeovers, not to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Figures show that religious participation rates are indicative of a generational effect involving religion,
in which 48% of children tend to follow either their mother or (a little less often) their father into their
religion (Voas, 2005). In this case, the influence from parents is arguably the main factor leading them
into religion. Voas goes on to state that for children with no religious influence from parents, the
chance of the joining a religion is significantly lower. To me, this shows that the role of religion in
contemporary societies Is not necessarily about the individuals own needs, rather it stems from family
and continues across generations. However, as Voas (2005) then goes on to outline, with each
generation comes less religiosity. Certain factors overtake the importance of religion, and thus as a
new child is born, so is another consumer of capitalism. However, one downfall of Voas research is
that It is only based on contemporary society in Britain. This factor hinders otherwise strong stand
alone statistics, which would be far more comparable had other contemporary societies been
considered.
Postmodernism and interlinking theorists are important to bring into this discussion of religion. In
recent years, postmodern researchers such as Lyon and Davie have produced inquisitive and relevant
studies on religion within the modern world. Firstly, I will outline the theory of Jesus in Disneyland
and the McDonaldization of the Church

something so difficult for me to do but it was very tough. You see, I work my total of 40 hours a week

I not only learned about the procedures for child support but I also learned things that will help in any
career that I decide to get into. I learned about proper communication skills. During my time at the
office I watched how communication was very important. Our communication skills can help in many
things and one major thing is to calm a person down, express compassion, give assurance. I witnessed
several clients going into the offices very bothered and frustrated with their cases or some would even
come in sad and disappointed but the office staff knew how to communicate properly with them and
assure them of any concerns they had. Another thing I learned is multi tasking. The office was all
about multi tasking and doing things fast. I realized that I need to work on my typing in order to type
faster. Since I am interested in office work I do need to type faster than I do now. Regarding multi
tasking, I had to document, file, and place in order all the paperwork for files that needed to be ready
for court. I had to have over 4 programs open on my desktop to look for photos and files that needed
to be printed and also programs where I had to notate what changes were done to the case or the latest
update on the file. I also learned to proper documentation and filing. I had to constantly document any
changes I made to each file. Each documentation was detailed and had to have a date the change was
made, what was the change, and who made the change. I also learned the importance of
confidentiality. During my time at the office they were very clear on how confidentiality is their
number one priority. Due to keeping everything confidential, it was a major rule at the office that
anyone who stood and left their office station must lock their computers. All documents that were

American Atheism and Why it Exists
Atheism is disbelief or lack of belief in the existence of God or gods, they reject religion as apart of
not only a rejection of ignorance, but also a rejection of their religious family and association of
religion itself, says Catherine L. and Caldwell Harris who are published in the Department of
Psychology for Boston University, Lesley College,University of Haifa, and Trinity College. This is a
stark contrast to theism, which is the belief in god and is the case for many Americans. This
demographic is about 83% of America s population, according to the most recent census. About 16%

agreed with. However, some of the statements and opinions made were more a matter of taste and
personal preference. P.S I Still Love You by Jenny Han is a story full of real life problems about being
a teenager. It includes important problems and a strong theme of trust throughout the book. Some may
disagree with the way the book was written and how everything unfolded, I think this book was very
well thought out and was very cohesive with it s prequel, To All The Boys I ve Loved

Deaf Ethnic Groups
In the article should the Deaf Be Considered an Ethnic Group? By Susan Seligson the author
examines the attitudes towards the deaf community and their classification in society. The author
claims that the deaf community has major hurdles to over come to become a ethnic group including
the medical industries affection toward technology like cochlear implants which are usually implanted
into infants who may have hearing difficulties with doctors medical advice. Seligson maintains the
belief in which these implants are actually harmful to children because they can only marginally hear
which effects the socialization of the child because the child has to try to hear with these implants

implants are dangerous for the users because they only work so well with the users when the user has
to concentrate on what person is say this puts a unnecessary barrier for the user if the person can not

Voter Mobilization And Party Affliction For Women Essay
On August 18th 1920 the nineteenth amendment was ratified in the United States granting women the
right to vote. Over that time women have gone out and exercised their right to vote, since so many
fought for this privilege. However, in this current day are women still motivate and women are still an
easy group to mobilize? Logically the answer would be yes since hundreds of suffragettes fought for
this fundamental right, but in the most recent presidential election about only 55.6% of all Americans
exercised their right to vote. In the United States gender influences a multitude of different
experiences, decisions and affiliations many would think more would go out and vote. Throughout this
paper it will focus on both voter mobilization and party affliction for women overall. In the ANES
Codebook (2012) over 3000 women were respondents compared to the 2847 male respondents. This
alone shows how females are a fundamental and an extremely influential part of the voting process,
which means their opinion can either make or break a candidate. If women feel that a certain
candidate will not provide them certain rights the percentage of women voting for that particular
candidate should decease, and vise versa. The reason this relationship exists is because many women
in this country strive for equality and most want political figures to help provide certain benefits to
eventually achieve gender equality. Throughout this paper I will provide literature that focuses on the

Essay about The United States and The International...
The International Criminal Court (ICC), created in 1998 (Thayer and Ibryamova 2010), is responsible
for investigating and prosecuting the most extreme cases, including crimes against humanity,
aggressive crimes, war crimes, and genocide. The credibility of this institution, however, has been
compromised due to the United States revocation of support and membership. Initially it is important
to recognize the arguments against the United States becoming a member state of the ICC and what
precipitated the U.S. withdrawing its signature from the document that instituted the Court. Once this
has been established, addressing and refuting these objections will develop the arguments in favor of
ICC membership. Finally, this analysis will lead to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In response, the U.S. has adopted the American Service Members Protection Act (ASMPA) and
Article 98. Both are meant to prevent United States citizens from being subjected to ICC regulations;
the result is a confusing message implying that citizens of the US are exempt from the same laws and
standards as are expected from the remaining world population. Legislation like the ASMPA and
Article 98 has further deteriorated the image of the US in the international community (Elsea 2002).
The United States decision to not join the ICC is largely contested today; however, many may be
unaware that though its role is currently vehemently debated, the United States was once instrumental
in the creation of the Court. Even prior to World War I, the United States was a proponent of
international courts, as well as was the creator of many standards of global law now incorporated into
the Rome Statute that created the International Criminal Court. Among these contributions are,
Inclusion in the jurisdiction of the Court of crimes committed during internal armed conflicts, and the
drafting of a supplemental code explaining the precise actions and intent that must be proved for each
of the crimes in the Statute... (AMICC

The Proteins Of Protein And Proteins
1. Janine and Mitchell were talking about carbohydrates and proteins. Proteins are large and complex
molecules that play many roles in the body. Our body contains many cells that are responsible for a
specific job. Proteins do most of the work in cells that are required for the structure, function, and
regulation of the body s tissues and organs. In each cell there is a lot of proteins that work together
like a machine to run each cell, just like the engine in a car proteins look different and they all have
different tasks that allow the engine to run. Proteins are made of amino acids that are attached to one
another in a long chain. Proteins are needed for mechanical support(a fibrous protein), and also needed

2. The nervous system has a structural unit called the neurone, which is a cell in its cytoplasm
containing a lot of mitochondria. Neurone produces the energy by cellular respiration and uses glucose
as a substratum. Janine is not right because it doesn t get you mad you can be without carbohydrates
but you do get really tired.
3. Janine was wrong because studies have said that there is no evidence that supports the idea that if
you intake to much protein it can cause kidney damage. Proteins do not have no negative impact on
kidneys. The metabolism consist of the constructive phase and the destructive phase, in which
complex materials are broken down. Transformation of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins in food to
energy, are parts of the metabolism.
4. Calories are units by which energy is measured. Energy is the capacity to do work. The energy in
food is chemical energy. The body can convert the chemical energy to mechanical, electrical, and heat
energy. A calorie free energy drink would be misleading because calories is what they use to measure
the units of energy needed. Calories is the energy in the energy drink and if it has no calories then it
would have no energy, which would not be considered an energy drink anymore.
5. The substances that supply energy to the human body would be organic nutrients that include
carbohydrates, fats, proteins, and vitamins. Pg.4

Research Paper On Should Animals Be Kept In Zoos
Should Animals be kept in zoos? Have you ever been to a zoo? If you have then you may or may not
noticed how badly the animals are treated. Many zoos around the world are mistreating animals and
the public has no idea about it. Zoos are very unfair to animals. Would you want to be stuck in a small
area for your whole life when you could be roaming free in the wild somewhere? Probably not. Well,
that is what happens to most animals in a zoo. It is completely unfair! Animals do not deserve to be in
such small areas. It can cause serious cases of stress and depression. They teach the public that it is
okay to cage wild animals, which is definitely not true. No animal should be caged up. Therefore, zoos
should not be allowed. Many of animals in zoos suffer from stress and boredom. The zoo staff
separates animals families which can stress them out. Most zoos do not ever put the animals back in
the wild. They keep the animals in small captivities or cages for the rest of their days. Elephants kept

Zoos teach young kids as well as adults that it is okay to cage animals and that is not true at all. If
people wanted to learn about wild animals and their habits, they could go on a wildlife trip where
animals are in their natural habitat. Some people believe that people who work at zoos are true animal
lovers and want the best for the animals. This is not true at all. Many zookeepers are just people
wanting a good job. Many of the animal abuse cases in zoos are from the workers not the visitors.
Many animals in zoos are provided with little to no care. If they are sick, they will just kill the animal
instead of paying to get it cared for. How is this ok? These animals could be out enjoying their life in
the wild but instead they are in zoos living a short life while in a

My Interest in MS in Telecommunication at George Mason...
I am writing to inform you of my interest in MS in Telecommunication here at George Mason
University. My interest in MS technologies started when I was very young. Since my early childhood
till today, my most important characteristics have been my excitement to learn things and new topics.
It developed even more over time and throughout my childhood. My inner desire to reach a degree of
excellence took me to the George Mason University. To further my passion of IT, I have submitted my
application with applicable documentation into your department. I currently hold my Bachelor s
Degree in Applied Information Technology from George Mason University with *** of GPA.
I have developed interest in IT and computers from the very beginning of my young age. As long as I
can remember, Information Technology has been a big part of my life. It all started in my early age of
my school where I was taught a basic language of computers and how the computers can be
programmed. After seeing my interest in computers, my father bought me an Intel Celeron based
computer with 256 Megabyte of RAM during my middle school days. Compare to today s fast
operating systems, this computer really tested my patience. After playing around with it, I discovered
myself more into it and tried making it work faster. I had even tried changing some of its files on my
own so that it can work the way I want it. I tried fixing it in a way so that it can help me opening the

Culture Shock Essay
Everyone has had a culture shock in their lifetime. Culture shock does not only occur overseas when
traveling to another country to visit or to live, but it could also be in a new state or a new city, at a new
school or workplace, among new extended family members, or being in any new environment.
According to Condon and Yousef (2017), Culture Shock is a multifaceted experience resulting from
the stress associated with entering a new culture (Condon Yousef, 2017, pg. 403). Everyone adapts in
a different way to a new life and a new beginning, and it could be hard at first before anyone can get
use to it. I will explain the circumstances surrounding the new culture and the reason for my
trip/experience, the stages of culture shock present in my experience of the new culture, how I coped
with the culture shock, and how I might cope with the culture shock in a healthier way in the future.

Tom Jones Education Analysis
Eighteenth century England held different expectations for the education women would receive, their
roles in marriage and the family, as well as society, and their sexuality. These expectations were
largely different depending on whether the woman was from the poor and working class, or from the
middle and upper classes. It is through these social expectations of women that the characterizations
of women in Henry Fielding s novel Tom Jones will be explored and criticized. The characterizations
of Mrs. Waters, Mrs. Western, and Sophia Western will be the primary focus, but Mrs. Fitzpatrick,
Bridget Allworthy, and Lady Bellaston are also characterizations that merit consideration Education,
particularly literacy, was rising among both the lower classes and women during the age of
Enlightenment. A women s education was now thought of as essential to her future occupation as a
mother, who would need to teach her own children in their formative years, and it was for this reason
that a woman s education was vastly different than a man s.
The education of middle and upper class girls [was] significantly different from [that] of poor, artisan,
or labouring girls (Simonton 35). Middle and upper class woman could receive private tutoring or go
to boarding school and they had more access to tools of learning, such as books. As a lower or
working class woman, they might forego schooling in favour of work, or if they did go to school it
would generally be for a brief time and with

Bringing Chicago to Life
Carl Sandburg describes Chicago as a tough and hefty city. Chicago is portrayed as a proud city, a city
proud to be so strong and cunning whereas other cities of the time were not. Chicago is characterized
by the people and workers who live in it. Sandburg loves Chicago even though it is a brutally tough
city. Sandburg uses imagery, personification, and punctuation to characterize the city as an actual
person.
Sandburg uses imagery that gives Chicago the reputation of being wicked, crooked, and brutal. The
author gives references of when people have called the city such names. Sandburg says, And they tell
me you are crooked and I answer: Yes, it is true I have seen/ the gunman kill and go free to kill again,
(line 8 9). Not only did Sandburg write this line to give an example of one of the things people call his
city but he is also saying yes I have seen it happen, Chicago can be dangerous. Despite what people
say about his city he still describes it as proud. Sandburg sneers, Come and show me another city with
lifted head singing so proud to be/ alive and coarse and strong and cunning, (14 15). Sandburg defends
his city while some people think it is cruel and harsh he describes Chicago as proud of those
characteristics. Sandburg portrays Chicago as wicked, crooked, and brutal, but takes pride in living in
a city that is so tough.
Sandburg uses personification to describe Chicago as an actual living person. The author characterizes
Chicago as various types of workers.

This model is an expansion of the CAPM and it includes two additional variables, taking into account
size and book to market factors, as explanatory variables expressed within the model as SMB and

models account for the expected returns for stock albeit using different variables to distinguish and
add reliability to the predictions of these estimated returns. However, the CAPM uses only one factor
to determine the riskiness of the marketplace, Beta, whereas Fama amp; French expands on this
model, incorporate another two factors to establish the risk, Small minus Big (SMB) and High Minus
Low (HML), which take into account the relationships between market and share size. Hence, in Fama

Model is indeed preferred at predicting the returns of stocks, in correlation with each models risk

Moreover, although small stocks outperform large stocks in the past several years, we should not

You know how you have hopes and expectations for a thing but when you finally experience that thing

I first saw the book on the shelf of my school library, and as a teenager in the 8th grade, and it grabbed
my attention right away. The story, the characters, the setting, the choices and the conflict were all
very serious and engaging to a young adult. Having read the story at that point in my life, it will

formed a new impression of her. She was strong in the role and earned my approval as a multifaceted
actress, taking her beyond her very adult scenes in The Wolf of Wall Street and her upcoming descent
into criminal lunacy as Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad . Chris Pine is lucky to have been cast as
Captain Kirk in J.J. Abram s Star Trek reboots because none of his other performances have been
worth my movie dollars. With that said, he was the weak leg of the stool in Z the

characterize groups of similar texts that share certain recognizable conventions and that belong in the
same literary tradition (Genre Theory, 2011). Genre films are normally easily recognizable as part of a

In one scene they use high key lighting to show more of an exciting and fantasy scene to stimulate the
audience s sense of excitement in the film. However, in other parts of the film low key lighting can be
seen. Like when Dorothy meets the wizard for the very first time. These scenes create a scary,
suspenseful feeling for the audience. Another scene where they use low key lighting is at the
beginning of the film when Dorothy is taken by the tornado. They use this Tanique to draw in the
adiance and make them cringe at what is going to happen next. When it comes to high key lighting the
scene where Dorothy starts her adventure on the yellow brick road is a great example. This part of the
film is exciting and happy and the high key lighting compliments that clip very well. These
Techniques are very important in the film because each bring out a different type of emotion that the
author is trying to display. Throughout this film the author takes us on an emotion of roller coaster

Standing at the gates of Holby South prison, Serena Campbell felt numb, she still didn t know why she was here, what possessed her to accept the visitation card, she ignored all previous ones. They had even been a ten year gap when she did not hear from him. Yet, something triggered her to make this visit after so many years. It all seemed like a blur the process of booking in, having her body and belongings searched, to putting her things in a locker. It felt like it did not happen, and as soon as she grasped a sense of reality, she found herself stood in the visitor s room, surrounded by criminals and their loving family visitors. Who Is Big Brother s Marionette In 1984 Diamond Ulibarri Ms. Stockton English 12, P5 4 November 2016 Big Brother s Marionettes (Rubic) All citizens in the ordinary world of 1984 do not, or acts as if they do not realize that every aspect of their lives are being controlled by a symbolic government figure named Big Brother. By portraying a decisive potentate, the government is able to manage citizen s lives as if they are all marionettes. Many different mind control techniques are executed upon the society in 1984, such as the novel s telescreens and the brainwashing of children; however, doublethink surpasses them all in terms of conveying George Orwell s intended subject of psychological manipulation, which proves that it is possible to believe anything that the government tells them, even while possessing information that runs counter to propaganda. A slogan from the Party that occurs throughout the novel and is the basic introduction to the idea of doublethink is WAR IS PEACE. FREEDOM IS SLAVERY. IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH (Orwell, 4/16/26/104...). They taught both he and his brother the importance of education and to think and learn. It was his father that exposed Thurgood and his brother to the aspects of the courtroom and the bases and practices of law. Their father would often get both of them engaged in discussions concerning cases observed in the court and promoted the need to debate their case. Topic: To understand why the inspiration of the common caterpillar is used to create the next generation of soft structure robots and what they will be used for once they are completed. Description: The caterpillar inspired robot is one of the first of its kind using a soft body to mimic that of its inspired. This is one of the main major points of why I choose to pick this instead of any other biology related topic simply because if it is the same size as a caterpillar it can be used in a vast majority of different common day practices. Relevance: Since this a new improvement upon current robotic technology all its uses are currently unknown but with the size of a caterpillar it can adapt to a variety of uses such as doctors. Currently doctors use small cameras attached to a long wire to observe internals but now with this caterpillar it may be possible to place this inside a body without the help of aesthetic in a few minutes instead of a lengthy procedure. Economically it can open up a variety of jobs in the robotics industry creating more work. This can then be used to try new technologies, materials and replacing outdated technologies. Ethically it can be used in a variety of medical practises. Just like stated above it can observe organs and reduce surgery time. • 8. In an Antique Land Essay In Amitav Ghosh s, In an Antique Land , the author compares his life with that of a slave named Bomma. He reveals that both men live in antique lands, foreign to their culture and surrounded by very different people. Ghosh also relates the book to Percy Bysshe Shelly s poem Ozymandias, a piece on mankind s hubris and the insignificance of the individual. Ghosh effectively juxtaposes Bomma s life with his own as he tries to find himself and unlock the slaves past through the ancient papers of the Cairo Geniza. Through historical details and antidotes, the author proves how a place can be both antique and contemporary. The title of the book comes from not only Ghosh s study of the history of the Middle East, but his observation on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His religion is a constant reminder of how he is an outcast yet he is also judging the culture he feels is criticizing him. He sees them as outdated and disapproving while they see him as unusual and mysterious. He is criticized for his religion and customs, and the children mock him in disbelief for being Hindu. One little boy comments on his amazement with this foreign culture: You mean, he said in rising disbelief, there are people in your country who are not circumcised? In Arabic the word circumcise derives from a root that means to purify ; to say of someone that they are uncircumcised is more or less to call them impure. Yes, I answered, yes, many people in my country are ‘impure . I had no alternative; I was trapped by language. (62) This is just one example of how Ghosh is treated as an outcast in the small town of no one of the small religion. He does not fully understand the language or culture that surrounds him, which causes even further confusion among the parties. This relates back to Shelly s poem because both the visitor and the ancient are being observed and criticized. While Ghosh realizes that the town will never respect why he worships cows or burns the dead, he desperately tries to analyze the town he lives in. • 9. Symptoms And Treatment Of Clinical Depression Recently, critics have questioned the ability of SSRIs to reduce the symptoms of clinical depression. Dr. Hieronymous and his researchers believe high rates of unsuccessful clinical trials additionally fuel negative critiques. The team from University of Gothenburg, Department of pharmacology set out to investigate 32 past trials concerning new medications many containing similar compounds to those found in common market SSRIs such as Paxil, Prozac, Celexa, and Zoloft. Greater than half of the company sponsored SSRI trials, using common test protocols, demonstrated significant depression relief regarding active drug versus placebo groups. Their resulting data points out possible depression measuring defects as a possible source of trial failure, rather than solely SSRI drug ineffectiveness. The Effect Parameter To prove a drug works, researchers must quantify significant patient symptom differences before and after active treatment and differentiate these results against placebo effects. The metric commonly used to measure SSRI impact regarding depressive symptom changes is the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HDRS), or more specifically HDRS 17. Dr. Max Hamilton s article A Rating Scale for Depression , describes his depression scale design developed in the 1950s. HDRS 17 analyses 17 different symptoms associated with depression where each is given a grade reflecting symptom severity (0 to 4, or 0 to 2). • 10. Underdog Chapter Summaries I greatly enjoyed this book, any book about an underdog is my kind of book. It always reminds me of my neighbor s father who owned a racehorse or two. There is a trail where he used to run them as if they were at the racetrack. That sticks out to me for a reason grandfather would tell us that story every time we smack that divot . This book is greatly enthralling and I ll read it again and maybe even another time. The first chapter I witnessed the destitutions Charles Howard prevailed over. Ordinarily, I can t envisage just starting from a bicycle salesman and becoming an automobile millionaire. Although, Howard agonized through so much his son passing, marriage falling through, and it was too much for one man to ordeal in one lifetime. Working from humble beginnings Howard worked his way to become an automobile millionaire. There is one statement that remains true arduous work trumps talent. The trainers worked with Seabiscuit equaling a top athlete. During Seabiscuit s career skeptics were abundant, they never believed in him, but Tom could see the potential that could be harnessed from training and time. Considered a sleeper, Seabiscuit had hidden talent, and became the best. He even was known to showboat a little when he obtained a sizeable lead in a race, that s my kind of horse. • 11. Misconceptions Of Herbal Medicine Herbal medicine and therapy has become a rapidly increasing interest among today s people due to it s supposed lack of harmful side effects and affordability. They often do a small bit of research and self prescribe herbal remedies. In doing so however could lead to dangerous and terrible adverse affects. To combat the misconceptions of herbal medicines, I have done research on the topic. In this essay, I will describe what herbal medicine is, explore its history and origins, delve deeper into herbal medicines and remedies used in the widely know concept traditional Chinese medicine, and discuss the functions and control of modern herbal medicines. The word herb originated from the Latin word herba, which refers to the green crops and grasses (Koopsen Young, 2009, p.280). The term 塗 erbalism” means 鍍he study and practice of using plant material for food, medicine, and health promotion” (Koopsen Young, 2009, p.280). This definition of herbalism also refers to the use of herbs to enhance the quality of life, both physically and spiritually (Koopsen, Young, 2009, p.280). Herbal and botanical products, and phytomedicines are products made from botanicals used to treat disease and maintain health while herbal supplements are made from plants and are used solely for internal use (Herbal medicine, n.d.).The use of herbs for medical purposes goes back thousands of millennia. There is evidence in an ancient Neanderthal burial from 60,000 years of herbs used for medicine that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Nature In A Midsummer s Night Dream There are numerous similarities between the nature of love and nature itself, as they are both chaotic. We, as a race, are unfaithful creatures who withdraw from our choices dreadfully fast without much thought. • 13. Individuality Vs. Conformity In The Shining Houses By... Individuality and conformity is a battle between being a leader and being a follower, finding out who you are and your desires to be accepted by others. In Alice Munro s short story The Shining Houses and Wallace Stevens poem Disillusionment of Ten O Clock , both the author and the poet shows how being an individual is more valuable than being one of those conformed copies . Is it better to stand out and compromise your values or is it better to stay comfortable in the crowd and give into peer pressure? Often in our society we are forced to act in a certain way in order to be considered normal and fit into a group, that is why a lot of people eventually conform. The whiteness of these night gowns represents lack of imagination and everybody were close minded. The old sailor were the only one in the poem who dares to dream and be different from those white night gowns copies: Only, here and there, an old sailor,/ Drunk and asleep in his bootss/ Catches Tigers/ In red weather. • 15. Religion And Its Role Of A Peace Keeper By French... Religion, as described by French Sociologist Émile Durkheim, connotes a unified system of beliefs and practices, relative to sacred things (Durkheim, 1965). The word unified suggests religion plays the role of a peace keeper, presenting individuals with a shared sense of understanding through the rituals, as well as the belief in a higher power or God. Within a contemporary society, religion is arguably playing a different role to that which it played during the early 20th century, a time throughout which Durkheim s sociological influence and research was prominent. Contemporary, postmodern societies are far more likely to use and exploit religion in a varying way, for many reasons technological advances and media takeovers, not to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Figures show that religious participation rates are indicative of a generational effect involving religion, in which 48% of children tend to follow either their mother or (a little less often) their father into their religion (Voas, 2005). In this case, the influence from parents is arguably the main factor leading them into religion. Voas goes on to state that for children with no religious influence from parents, the chance of the joining a religion is significantly lower. To me, this shows that the role of religion in contemporary societies Is not necessarily about the individuals own needs, rather it stems from family and continues across generations. However, as Voas (2005) then goes on to outline, with each generation comes less religiosity. Certain factors overtake the importance of religion, and thus as a new child is born, so is another consumer of capitalism. However, one downfall of Voas research is that It is only based on contemporary society in Britain. This factor hinders otherwise strong stand alone statistics, which would be far more comparable had other contemporary societies been considered. Postmodernism and interlinking theorists are important to bring into this discussion of religion. In recent years, postmodern researchers such as Lyon and Davie have produced inquisitive and relevant studies on religion within the modern world. I truly mean it when I say it was a great challenge. In only 2 months I completed 120 hours in an office that was only open 8 5 Monday through Friday. I witnessed several clients going into the offices very bothered and frustrated with their cases or some would even come in sad and disappointed but the office staff knew how to communicate properly with them and assure them of any concerns they had. Another thing I learned is multi tasking. The office was all about multi tasking and doing things fast. I realized that I need to work on my typing in order to type faster. Since I am interested in office work I do need to type faster than I do now. Regarding multi tasking, I had to document, file, and place in order all the paperwork for files that needed to be ready for court. I had to have over 4 programs open on my desktop to look for photos and files that needed to be printed and also programs where I had to notate what changes were done to the case or the latest update on the file. I also learned to proper documentation and filing. I had to constantly document any changes I made to each file. Each documentation was detailed and had to have a date the change was made, what was the change, and who made the change. I also learned the importance of confidentiality. During my time at the office they were very clear on how confidentiality is their number one priority. Over that time women have gone out and exercised their right to vote, since so many fought for this privilege. However, in this current day are women still motivate and women are still an easy group to mobilize? Logically the answer would be yes since hundreds of suffragettes fought for this fundamental right, but in the most recent presidential election about only 55.6% of all Americans exercised their right to vote. In the United States gender influences a multitude of different experiences, decisions and affiliations many would think more would go out and vote. Throughout this paper it will focus on both voter mobilization and party affliction for women overall. In the ANES Codebook (2012) over 3000 women were respondents compared to the 2847 male respondents. This alone shows how females are a fundamental and an extremely influential part of the voting process, which means their opinion can either make or break a candidate. If women feel that a certain candidate will not provide them certain rights the percentage of women voting for that particular candidate should decease, and vise versa. The reason this relationship exists is because many women in this country strive for equality and most want political figures to help provide certain benefits to eventually achieve gender equality. Having read the story at that point in my life, it will remain burned in as one of those permanent young adult experiences. She was strong in the role and earned my approval as a multifaceted actress, taking her beyond her very adult scenes in The Wolf of Wall Street and her upcoming descent into criminal lunacy as Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad . Chris Pine is lucky to have been cast as Captain Kirk in J.J. Abram s Star Trek reboots because none of his other performances have been worth my movie dollars. With that said, he was the weak leg of the stool in Z the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, in other parts of the film low key lighting can be seen. Like when Dorothy meets the wizard for the very first time. These scenes create a scary, suspenseful feeling for the audience. Another scene where they use low key lighting is at the beginning of the film when Dorothy is taken by the tornado. They use this Tanique to draw in the adiance and make them cringe at what is going to happen next. When it comes to high key lighting the scene where Dorothy starts her adventure on the yellow brick road is a great example. This part of the film is exciting and happy and the high key lighting compliments that clip very well. These Techniques are very important in the film because each bring out a different type of emotion that the author is trying to display.
