complex themes such as the role of literature in society, the tension between faith and doubt, and
the impact of industrialization on culture.

Amish Sociological Analysis
It is plain to see that Amish society is quite unique with their traditional lifestyles,
refuse to use any modern technology, and strict set of morals and values. This
uniqueness leaves the modern world completely baffled on how these communities
can sustain themselves. People pass by the Amish communities and see this society
almost as amazing as a reenactment show rather than a group of real people trying to
go about their daily life. So to better understand this faction of people and their
society, it is pertinent to analyze this phenomena from a sociological perspective in
terms of culture and structure. When looking at the Amishcommunities in terms of
culture, it is critical to assess the shared practices and common attitudes of the
Did You Know That The Olympics Were Originally
Banished
Did you know that the Olympics were originally banished and it took 1,503 years
for it to officially return? The modern Olympics as we know it today came from the
ancient Olympic games that originated in Greece. These things are basically one
event that has the same name but they both have very different aspects and core
values to them. This is why I chose to compare both and show both sides, so that
people may be able to see the evolution of the famous Olympic games.
The ancient Olympics had their own style and was very unique. Back in those days,
the games were religious celebrations that unified the states and were held in honor
of the greek gods this belief system was shared by all people. Furthermore, each of

chosen. For instance, the Elis selections procedure entirely involved the election
by popular vote of a group of respectable property owners which caused the citizens
to vote tribe by tribe. Then, all of the names were inscribed on potsherds and
placed in a large ceramic vessel. Henceforth caused a decision to be made of the

like manner, the contestants that participated in this events were required to undergo
a long period of training, including the judges. Their training varied depending on
the contest they decided to enter and one of the requirements was to compete
completely nude. Another requirement was that they had to swear that they were a
freeman, of pure Hellenic blood, did not propose to win by any unfair means and
that neither they nor immediate their immediate relatives had been guilty of any
outlaw or sacrilegious act. Bill Henry, History of the Olympic Games, p.11, 4. In all,
this is the basic history of the Ancient Olympic games.

Tesco Marketing
INTRODUCTION
Marketing is essentially a matching process between the needs and expectations of
customers, and the organization s ability and capacity to satisfy them.
One of the main points of this process is the marketing planning.
The purpose of marketing planning and its principal focus are the identification and
creation of competitive advantage. Marketing planning is the planned application of
marketing resources to achieve marketing objectives.
In other words, it is the written document that describes your advertising and
marketing efforts for the coming year; it includes a statement of the marketing
situation, a discussion of target markets and company positioning and a description of
the marketing mix you intend to use to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Add to that a high rate of unemployment causes a drop in effective demand for goods,
that demand requiring for the production of goods.
While these economic factors are largely outside the control of Tesco, they have an
undeniable impact on the company business performance and its marketing decisions.
Tesco operates in a global world and is now located in several countries, and this
international business is still growing, but it remains dependent on the UK market.
This excessive concentration on a single market exposes them to risks and would
be negatively affected by any slowdown in the UK food market (as the crisis of mad
cow in the 1990s)
Finally, the economic crisis, which is still current, tends to reduce the purchasing
power of consumers, who are much more reluctant and afraid to spend more than they
can.
New technologies have had a great impact. For instance, online shopping has become
a major factor in Tesco s recent success.
Technology is the basis for the development of many products in the Tesco range.
These new technologies have provided consumers than the company itself.
Consumer satisfaction is higher because services are more personalized and
responsive to each and shopping becomes more enjoyable and seems less arduous. To
obtain customer satisfaction, Tesco has put in place in its stores the following
technologies:
Essay about Equal Gender Representation in The Gaming...
Equal Gender Representation in The Gaming Franchise This paper tries to express
how sexism/chauvinism ideas have infected the virtual world of video games, and
resulted in a male dominated video gaming industry. Now, being that 49% of U.S.
households own a dedicated gaming console (E.S.A. 2012), it is imperative that we
address this issue. Gender disparity in the gaming business is exceedingly one sided.
Female employees constitute less than 10% of the gaming industry, and even though
that shortcoming females have contributed to the video gaming franchise. A small
number of females have indeed contributed to the gaming franchise as a result of the
industries no girls allowed mentality which strongly suggest that old saying boys

The Tempest Subjugation
The Tempest is a fictional passage discussing the general slavery of an inhabitant
and a dismemberment of his culture on his native land. In summary, the main
character uses magical powers to take control and inevitably colonize a civilization
that lives on an island in order to grow an empire. I believe that William Shakespeare
wrote The Tempestin order to discuss the idea of subjugation. Which is defined as
the action of bringing someone or something under domination or control. As stated
before, The Tempest is a passage overviewing the enslavement of a person for
another s gain. The slave being Caliban, and the one enslaving him being Prospero. I
see Shakespeare s idea for writing this passage as a way to discuss the unruly mess

Mark Twain Conclusion
Mark Twain
Let us endeavour so to live so that when we come to die even the undertaker will be

― Mark Twain
Mark Twain was an influential writer, who not only wrote books with a sense of
humour, but also with an intellect like no one else. He wrote many books, of which
The Adventure of Tom Sawyerand its sequel, Adventures of Huckleberry Finn have
become timeless classics. This essay will give a description of Mark Twains life, his
written literature and what his work has done for the literary world.
When Mark Twain was born in 1835, he got the name Samuel Langhorne Clemens.
Around 1863 he later legally changed his name to Mark Twain, when he worked as a
riverboat pilot. In his childhood, Mark Twain grew up in Hannibal, along... Show

Mark Twain always came up with quotes from his books, and because of an intense
curiosity I started reading his two classics. These books made me feel a variation
of emotions, such as happiness and acute desire to learn history and many more.
He had an abrupt way of telling things as they were, and a lot of people, including
me, were and are drawn to his stories because they do not refine people or society.
His tranquil literary style has given these books a sense of rawness to the emotions
his characters feel in his books, and the fact that Mark Twain is able to transmit
these emotions that goes to the roots of human nature, through only pieces of paper
is one of the many reasons why he is an author that almost everybody knows of. He
has not only opened many people s eyes, but also motivated great authors, such as
Ernest Hemingway and William Falkner. Mark Twain is able to create characters
that can see their environment from several perspectives, a great talent to have and it
teaches everybody who reads The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn , and The
Adventure of Tom Sawyer the basic intuition of seeing things from other people s
perspective.
To conclude, Mark Twain is still relevant today and he teaches people the importance
of empathy, but also gives an insight to how unjust the society was before. He has
written many great things, a lot of them based on humour, such as The Adventures of
Individuality And Morality In A Clockwork Orange
A Clockwork Orange: Individuality, Morality, and Growing Up
Anthony Burgess s novel, A Clockwork Orange, presents a struggle between
animalistic urges and mechanistic society by way of the motif of a clockwork
orange. Many would agree that a clock and an orange share little in common other
than the fact that they may both be round. However, the organic nature of an orange
combined with the precision and mechanics of a clock curiously imitates the way
people respond to everyday influences. Anthony Burgess capitalizes on the
differences between these two seemingly unrelated objects to present the connection
between morality and conformity within the confines of the novel s narrator, Alex.
Throughout the three parts of the novel, it becomes more apparent that every
seemingly harmless life can be manipulated by the clockwork of society. Alex is a
young boy living in the near future, whose obsession with the brutality of the world
around him causes him to act violently. The portrayal of the character Alex as both a
protagonist and an antagonist highlights the psychological turmoil associated with
conforming to society by sacrificing either morality for individuality or individuality
for morality.
The word faithful is often misinterpreted as always having a positive connotation. The
dictionary definition of faithful, adhering or true to fact, a standard, an original , can
be interpreted more widely (Dictionary.com). In the beginning of A Clockwork
Orange, Alex refers to himself

Guerrero were travelling on buses to the city of Iguala (birth place of the Mexican
national flag). The students were on the buses to attend a political campaign

Hispanic And Non Hispanic Americans
Latinos/ Hispanics are one of the races that have a background with the higher risk
to get diabetes type 2, but in what way does being Latino affect the course of the
illness and what roll does culture takes in this problematic? There is a considerable
difference between Hispanic and Non Hispanics. Many factors can be the reasons
for this difference in numbers, but the most influential factors are culture,
acculturation and, the medical cultural competence. First, for Latinos, studies
have found that the prevalence of total diabetes, diagnosed and undiagnosed,
among all Hispanic/Latino groups was roughly 16.9 percent of both men and
women, compared to 10.2 percent of non Hispanic whites. However, when looking
at Hispanic/Latino groups individually, it found that prevalence varied from a high
of 18.3 percent for those of Mexican descent to a low of 10.2 percent for people of
South American descent. The study showed 18.1 percent of people of Dominican
and Puerto Rican descent; 17.7 percent of Central American descent; and 13.4
percent of Cuban descent living in the United States had type 2 diabetes
(Alexandria, 2014). As people believe, also prevalence rose dramatically with age,
reaching more than 50 percent for Hispanic/Latino women by the time they reached
age 70 and 44.3 percent for men aged 70 74. Although this may be true, Latinos who
migrate to the US have increased their rates of diabetes. The reason for this is the
acculturation and how fast they take it. According

Weight Watchers has been around, but it has been until very recently that they

This diet program allows you to record your points in an online journal if you are

Child Rearing Practices Shape And Influence Attitudes...
Illness refers to the ways in which the sick person, the members of the family and
wider social network perceive, live with, and respond to symptoms and disability.
Illness and pain is a subjective experience that varies between each individual
person. Alisha Ghosh is my cousin; she is a 22 year old female student, currently in
her fourth year at the University of Waterloo. Alisha suffers from sever chronic
migraines which hinders and interferes with her daily life. Additionally, Alisha s
mother also sufferes from sever chronic migraines. It is evident that Alisha s attitude
towards painis highly influenced by her mother. Further more, when Alisha s
mother would experience pain from sever migraines she would isolate herself in
her room and turn off all the lights as it made her migraines worse. Similarly,
whenever Alisha begins to experience migraine pains she isolates herself into her
dark room. This illustrates how child rearing practices shape and influence
attitudes towards the expectations of pain and how to deal with it. To begin with,
Alisha Ghosh is a highly active and hard working student, she is on her university s
soccer team and has a part time job at the mall. In addition, her chronic pain began
in her freshmen year in university and started interfering with her social and
academic life. She would have to call in sick from work, miss lectures and miss
going out to social events because her chronic pain is so severe that she has to
isolate herself in her room

and theirresponses. Marlowe s poem speaks of beautiful things a shepherd will

poem of a woman who rebukes theshepherd s actions. Of the many responses to
Marlowe s original poem, Raleigh s is the clearwinner. Due to his style, content, and
opinion, Sir Walter Raleighs The Nymph s Reply is thebest reverberation of Marlowe

How Did Japanese Attack Pearl Harbor
WWII was a war in which the United States was hoping to stay out of. But that
hope was shattered when the japanese attacked Pearl Harbor. THey managed to

Immediately after, the U.S declared war against Japan. Then a mass production was
in effect in the states. getting America right back on its feet in the pacific. Many
battles ensued in one of the worst world wars ever seen before.
The first major keystone of the U.S defensive was the Battle of the midway. This is
when the japanese had thought that most of the U.S carriers had been destroyed.
They did not expect the the U.S.S t Yorktown to have made such a hasty repair at
Pearl Harbor, This was an advantage had the U.S had against the Japs. These faulty
japanese assumptions were there downfall due to the fact that the U.S had set up an

Problems Of The Circus Essay
Problems of the Circus
When I look at animals held captive I think of slavery. Animals in circuses represent
the domination and oppression we have fought against for so long. They wear the
same chains and shackles. The United States Animal Welfare has standards of care.
When looking at the major circuses, they have all been cited for violating the
standards. Animals feel just as much, if not more emotions and humans. Circuses
should be eliminated completely because of the animals dangerous living conditions,
the long term damage it does to the animals, and the mammals could pose a potential
threat to the spectators.
Their living and traveling conditions are not ideal; they should be living in the wild.
The animals spend most of their time locked up in chains and separated from their
families with no choice. Kenny, a three year old Asian Elephantdied one night after
the circus made him perform while sick. As a three year old, in the wild, he would
just now be beginning to wean, which means to start eating other foods rather than
the mother s milk, not spending countless hours mastering tricks. Deborah Nelson
quotes federal regulations, saying sick elephants must get prompt medical care and
veterinarian s okay before performing, (p48 57) but he did not get get either of
those. Kenny got sick all three times he went out to perform, and it did not get any
better. A couple hours later, the officials found the helpless three year old elephant
dead on the hard concrete floor.

Akasha Research Paper
Akasha Spirit
Akasha is the fifth creative element and denotes pure spirit. In ancient writings,
Akasha is said to operate through sound or vibration and is identified with the
element of Air and in a spiritual sense with the breath of god as seen in ancient
Hebraic texts. Akasha is considered to be an indispensable element of every
magickal act. It can be related to an occult electricity as energy rises with our
emotions and desires becoming the basis for fertility of the mind, body and spirit.
Also, the energy of passion, motivation, and determination. Akasha emanates the
power of spirit and harmonizes with the elements of Earth, Fire, Air, and Water. It
correlates with the symbolism of the pentagram with the four elements being
controlled by Spirit.

Pentagram a five point star
The pentagram means five lines from the Greek word pentagrammos. It is actually
just a star shape but can take on meaning depending on your spiritual beliefs and the
context in which it is used. The pentagram is a symbol of protection in Wicca and
Witchcraft. The top of the star represents pure spirit and the other points represent the
elements of Earth, Air, Fire, and Water.

The Natural Resource Of Natural Resources
1.1Background and Introduction Over the last decade, the term natural resource
curse has gained importance among resource rich countries; it claims that natural
resource wealth is linked to poor economic growth (Sachs Warner, 2001). In other
words, countries with an abundance of natural resources are less developed and
tend to grow slower than resource poor countries (Sachs Warner, 2001). It may seem
that having plenty of natural resources is a gift, yet the fact is economic growth in
countries like Indonesia and Nigeria do not actually show that the profusion of
natural resources are a blessing (The Economist, 2000). Expectation to have a high
growth economy because of being rich in natural resources has gone. In fact, natural
resources have been causing many major conflicts to those resource rich countries in
terms of economics, international relations, and environment (Ross, 2003). Looking
back on Indonesia s history, Indonesia was colonized by the Dutch for 3.5 centuries,
the reason was simply because Indonesia is rich of natural resources, due to the
limitations of natural resources, especially herbs and spices back in Netherlands
(Cribb, n.d.). During that time the Dutch tried to get the natural resources as much as
they could without considering the welfare of the Indonesian (Cribb, n.d.). Indonesia
had been freed from the Dutch and Japanese, yet, until today after 65 years of
attaining independence, the country has not been able to liberate its people
Privacy Issues In Brave New World
In the novel Brave New World by Aldous Huxley, privacy is something that doesn t
exist. In the story set in a dystopian future everybody knows everything about
everybody, nothing is left a secret. People discuss their personal affairs with others
in public; for example, when Lenina talks to Bernard about their date in the locker
room, Bernard feels very uncomfortable, but Lenina is fine with it because
everyone knows about others and about whom they are going out with. Also, at the
end of the novel, all the people and media gather at the savage s house to interview
him and see him whip himself. Similarly, in the society privacy of people is being
compromised, courtesy of the USA PATRIOT Act. This act violates people s right to
due process, right to privacy and right to protection against unreasonable search and
seizures. These rights are given to people by the constitution: the right to due process
is in the fifth amendment of the bill of rights, and the right to protection against
unreasonable search and seizures is in the fourth amendment of the bill of rights. The
United States Constitution does not contain any explicit right to privacy. However,
The Bill of Rights has certain aspects of privacy. For example, the first Amendment
allows the privacy of beliefs, the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Parable Of The Good Samaritan
There was an article written by John Darley and Daniel Batson, who was inspired
from the parable of the Good Samaritan and decided to organize a research to test
the limits of people s good will towards something. Later they also published their
research results in a paper in the year of 1973, titled From Jerusalem to Jericho. The
history of the parable of the Good Samaritanwas quite interesting. The research was
conducted based on 3 different hypotheses which they thought might influence
people s helping behavior. One of the hypotheses was that, people that were
thinking in terms of religious would have any effect on helping others. Second one
was that people that are in a rush will be less likely to offer any help to others
compared to the ones that are not in a rush. And the third one is that, people who are
religious, more in a Samaritanfashion, would be more like offer aid than those of a
priest or more of a Levite fashion.
Instead of just analyzing scripture, the researchers put the participants randomly into
various conditions, such as causing some of them to rush somewhere and others to
take their time to go to that same place; making people think from a religious point
of view and for others it was not quite necessary. For the study, both researchers
chose participants from the Princeton Theological Seminary. There was also a 6 point
scale set to measure the helping behavior.
The study began by splitting the participants randomly into two groups, where one of

lot of chaos into people s lives with its downed factories, unemployment and crazy
inflation. Many people lost their jobs and had no means to make money, including
my Mom. And this is where, I am proud to say, my Mom, by tapping into her
creativity, was able to find a solution in this quite desperate situation she
transformed her sewing hobby into a business. And did it prosper! The timing for it
was just right there were no women s clothe on the market because all Soviet
factories had closed, and there were no goods yet being imported from other

Essay On Autism
Mice with an extra autism gene have more anxiety and seizures
A recent study has found that a gene linked to autism caused mice in their
experiments to have more seizures and anxiety. Dr. Jill Silverman is an assistant
professor of psychiatry at the University of California, Davis. She led a team of
researchers to study a specific gene that might be linked to autism.
What was the gene that they studied?
This gene the researchers studied was called UBE3A. This gene is found in a lot of
tissues including skin, stomach lining, and the brain. UBE3A can code several
different proteins. One protein is actually an enzyme that cleans up other proteins by
tagging them for destruction. This is helpful for cells to get rid of proteins they no ...

Doctors call this syndrome the Dup15q syndrome. This syndrome helps describe the
trend we see whenever someone has two or more copies of this chromosome. When
someone has this, they tend to also have many neurologic symptoms including
anxiety, developmental delay, and seizures. The syndrome also seems to affect
speech and motor functions. A lot of these people have problems with coordination
and muscle tone.
How did they study this in mice?
To study this gene further, Dr. Silverman and her team developed genetically
manipulated mice. They specifically bred their mutant mice so that they would
produce a large amount of protein of the longest type possible in their brain.
Particularly, they saw that these mice overexpressed the UBE3A protein levels
especially in the excitatory neurons of the cortex and hippocampus. The researchers
then compared their mutant mice with their normal mice to try and detect behavioral
differences.
What did the research team find?
Mice overexpressing UBE3A seemed to be more anxious.
The team noticed mice with more UBE3A seemed to be more anxious. These mice
were less likely to go from dark areas of light, which might be because they are
more nervous about being out in the open and exposed. The mice were also less
likely to explore their housing cages. The researchers had put extra chambers to test
the exploration behavior in their mice, and they found their mutant mice were

Wharton explains Lily by saying that she is naturally fitted to dominant and

has a major problem with being too indecisive. Her being indecisive is highly
contradictory to her main goal, which is to find a wealthy husband. Throughout

underrepresenting women (Kleeman) while the other condemns modern feminism
for treating women as victims and vilifying men (Frohlich). The first uses many

Executive Summary
General Motors Corporation, the world s largest automaker, has an extensive global
outreach, which places the firm in competition with automakers worldwide, and
subjects itself to significant exchange rate exposure. In particular, despite most of its
revenues and production being derived from North America, depreciating yen rates
pose problems for the firm indirectly through economic exposure. While GM

dollars. Having appreciating USD in their assets column, with depreciating yen in
their liabilities column, this has lowered cost structure and expanded profit
margins for firms such as Nissan, Honda and Toyota. Now, these automakers are
able to pass on their reduced costs to consumers via sticker price reductions
between 15 45% of cost savings, or through added incentives. According to Exhibit
6, as of 2000, per vehicle incentives of GM ($1,969) far exceeds those of Toyota and
Honda, at $725 and 664, respectively; this competitive advantage GM currently
holds, as well as its relative market share in the U.S., are endangered if Japanese
firms choose to move their incentive values closer to the industry average. Looking
into the competitive threat more closely, the auto industry in the United States is
rather sensitive to price, with a price elasticity of 2, or a 5% increase in price
contributing to a subsequent 10% fall in demand. Thus, based upon the sticker price
decreases potentially implemented by Japanese automakers, Japanese companies
combined market share (roughly 4.1m units in 2000) stands to increase substantially,
and could eat into General Motors overall market share. To highlight the sensitivity to
the USD JPY spot exchange rate, GM s VP of Finance, Eric Feldstein, suggests that
just a one yen depreciation increases competitors operating profit by $400m. With
$900m in net yen receivables, $500m in outstanding yen denominated bonds, and

Using Sexual Interest For The Male Audience

Understanding Prospective Memory
Prospective memory is a type of memory that involves remembering to undertake a
prearranged action at the proper time. It is simply remembering to remember. Cohen
(1996) described prospective memory as remembering a plan of action as well as
remembering to do it at a specified time or within certain timelimits. Majority of
each day is spent forming objectives and performing those objectives; therefore
according to Crovitz Daniel 1984, most of a days forgetting is due to a failure in
your prospective memory. It is important to understand prospective memory because
of its great relevance to everyday life, its clinical research potential and also because
prospective memory failures can be devastating.

these demands may sometimes cause a memory lapse. To ensure there are no
errors, the demand on an air controllers memory can be reduced by system support
tools like the MTCD (Medium Term Conflict Detection), which is a graphical
representation of conflicts. This changes the task of conflict detection to be based
on more of a visual perception. The time that the alert is given is also important in
order to help the ATCO to adopt strategies that support prospective memory. When
the alert is designed to take place at a moment that gives enough time for a reaction,
then the alert is actually reminding the AT controller to perform an action and is
therefore effective in relieving the prospective memory. However if the alert takes
place after this optimal moment, there is not enough time for the reaction and
therefore the AT controller must adopt another strategy, which does not rely on the
alert for identifying conflicts, and the prospective memory is less supported.
Therefore the use of prominent aids at appropriate times is a vital part of prospective

market of soft drugs. Whether it be human resources or the plants itself. The use of
cannabis products has been legalized ; every town has at least one hash and coffee

spite of the liberalization of the use of soft drugs, trafficking in cannabis products is

3. What future economic gains or loses may result from the current sales of soft
drugs. The economic gains are plentiful as I stated before the sales of marijuana is
upwards $500 million annually. The taxes gained by legalized soft drug use is
comparable to cigarette sales and alcoholic beer sales tax. This is national and
local revenue that usually would be lost do to laws outlawing the sales. Also the
lack of law enforcement and jail space frees up billions of dollars that would
otherwise have been used to find, charge, and incarcerate marijuana dealers and
users. The only economic loses I can see in legalized soft drugs is the healthcare
and rehabilitation part of it. But many times there is no need for this since there is
no addictive nature to marijuana unlike cigarettes or hereditary addiction to
alcohol. There is a need for rehab to the hard drug users which is not legal in
Holland but many times tolerated. Legal marijuana use also saves the users
hundreds of dollars maybe even thousands a year. Since the cost of it is lowered
due to it being taken off the black market and regulated it is less expensive to
purchase. Also the punishment for possession is taken away hence no jail time and
lost wages or fines that could drain a persons income. The gains from legalized
marijuana are enormous and
Parenting Interventions Are Essential For Normal Infant...
Preterm babies, also known as premature babies are born before 37 weeks
gestational age. These babies can vary in term of prematurity, from two to three
weeks, to extremely preterm at over ten weeks. Goldberg and Devitto (2002, as cited
in Leman, Bremner, Parke Gauvain, 2012) stated prematurity is associated with low
birth weight, putting infants at risk of long term issues such as faulty cognition,
hyperactivity and perceptual disorders. Werner and Smith (1982, as cited in Leman et
al., 2012) stated recent developments indicate high quality care and extra stimulation
can improve the prognosis of the infant. Parents provide this environment for the
child, yet often they feel alienated and worried about caring for their premature
infant, meaning stimulation is lacking. (Leman et al., 2012) Therefore, some say
parenting interventions are essential for normal infant development. However,
research is often conflicting with regards to interventions improving prognosis.
Within the main body of the essay we will be discussing some parenting intervention
schemes such as massage therapy and the use of family nurture interventions, which
have overall supported the view that parenting interventions are effective. Whilst also
touching upon research that indicates less positive results, including infant
behavioural assessments and intervention programs.
Parenting massage interventions are said to be effective in improving outcomes such
as enhanced cognitive development and lower
Irish Immigration In The 1930 s
There were several international problems that prompt the arrival of immigrants, and

The Nativists felt entitled to a certain amount of wealth because they were U.S
born. This was irrelevant to big corporations and factories because they simply
needed a body to maximize profits. It didn t matter if one was white, black,
German, or Irish because the profit exceeded any of these divides. The nativists
built political opposition with their I Know Nothing Party, which was a political
group that believed in restricting immigration and those not part of the main
culture. The Irish were Roman Catholic, so combined with their willingness to
work for cheap, the Irish were also in support of the pope. Most Americans were
protestant, and they did not want to have Irish majority because they feared
having a populous that would prioritize the Pope over the government. They did
not want the power of the Pope to intervene and harm America s interest, and that
fueled the Nativist movements. Nativists pushed for literacy tests in voting which
excluded a large majority of the Irish at first because many of them were illiterate.
Although even if they were literate, the person conducting the test would arbitrarily
determine and make that decision. They also push for longer wait times for
naturalization and citizenship as well as the overall banning of the Irish, but those
laws never come to pass. However, it came to a point where the laws of New
England mandated that all children go to school, and Irish soon were educated
enough not be excluded. The Nativist movement ultimately crumbles because the
overwhelming majority of Irish Immigrants coming in were supported by big
factories that like a cheap labor supply as well as the unfeasibility of stopping such
a large body of the population from having a say in the politics of American Society.
The government never supports the nativists because they like the idea of more people
American Nurses Association Code Of Ethics
Provisions within the Code of Ethics
I chose to analyze provision three contained in the American Association Code of
Ethics. Provision three explores a nurses daily duty as it relates to patient rights as
well as safety and patient privacy. In addition to other healthcare related
responsibilities a nurse is effectively, a valuable patient advocate who must work to
ensure that patients are treated fairly and competently, not only from the nursing
staff, but all caregivers. (American Nurses Association). If a situation concerning
incompetent care from other healthcare providers should arise, the nurse must assess
issue on behalf of the patient and initiate action to have the issue corrected.
According to provision three of the ANA code of ethics, nursing staff should be
proficient and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While training staff and new hires I have had to make ethical judgements to
determine the competency levels of the trainees and decide whether they were skilled
enough to perform their duties under minimal supervision. I have also had the
unpleasant task of informing a new physician about errors I discovered while cross
referencing her orders with the patients chart. My continued implementation of best
practices and maintaining patient advocacy is vital to not only my position but also
my personal satisfaction of being a nurse.
Similarities.
It s clear that the similarities between the ANA and ACHE code of ethics centers
around patient welfare. Both enforce the importance of patient advocacy and the
continued practice of ethical behavior. Additionally both sources encourage not only
integrity but compliance to state and federal laws and regulations. (American College
of Healthcare Executives ). One other interesting element that is represented in both
sources is the reassurance that there will be no retaliation for reporting unethical
behavior.
Spinal Meningitis Essay
Meningitis is an infection of the fluid of a person s spinal cord and fluid that
surrounds a person s brain. It is sometimes referred to as Spinal Meningitis. It s
usually caused by either a bacterial or viral infection. As you read through this paper
you will learn how Meningitis is transmitted, its symptoms, its effects, and even the
incidences it has caused.
The common symptoms of anyone over two years old is high fever, headache, and
stiff neck. Symptoms can develop over several hours or even one to two days. Other
symptoms include vomiting, nausea, confusion, sleepiness, and discomfort looking at
bright lights. As for newborns and small infants, the classical symptoms may be

Ten to fifteen percent of cases are fatal. Ten to fifteen percent of patients who recover
have permanent hearing loss, mental retardation, loss of limbs, brain damage, or
learning disability in ten to twenty percent of survivors. (WHO, 2004) The groups at
risk for this disease include the general population, infants and young children,
refugees, household contacts of case patients, military recruits, college freshmen who
live in dormitories, people exposed to firsthand and secondhand smoke, and
microbiologists who work with isolates of Neisseria Meningitidis. (CDC, 2004)
In 1887, the causative agent Neisseria Meningitidis, the meningococcus, was
identified. Because of its potential to cause epidemics, Neisseria Meningitidis is one
of the most important types. In 1805, when Meningococcal disease was first
described, an outbreak swept through Geneva, Switzerland. Twelve subtypes of
Neisseria Meningitidis have been identified. Four of them have been recognized to
cause epidemics. Those four are: A, B, C, and W135. The capabilities differ of the
pathogenicity, immunogenicity, and epidemic according to the serogroup. Thus it is
crucial to the identification of the serogroup responsible for epidemic containment.
(WHO, 2004)
The diagnosis of meningococcal meningitis is suspected by the clinical presentation

A Short Note On The Global Ecology Center

The Global Ecology Center
Lihao Wang,
May 19
The word sustainable is very popular recent years. Many countries are trying to
reduce the carbon emission. They tried controlling the smoke of the car. They tried
controlling the use of the electric and recycle everything they can use again.
However, the carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions of buildings is more than either the
transportation or industrial sectors. According to US Green Building Council s
research,In 2004, total emissions from residential and commercial buildings were
2236 million metric tons of CO2, or 39% of total US. Also, buildings consume
70% of the electricity load in the US.(USGBC) A building called Global Ecology
Center reduced 72% reduction in carbon emissions and 50% in embodied carbon
for building materials. Global Ecology Center is located in Stanford, and it was
chosen as an AIA Committee on the Environment Top Ten Green Project for 2007.
The capacity is 10,900 ft2. It completed in March 2004. Global Ecology Center
combined with laboratories and offices. It owned by and occupied by Carnegie
Institution of Washington, Corporation.(nonprofit) All told, the GEC achieved a 72
percent savings over a 2001 California Title 24 compliant building, the strictest
energy code in the nation, for a modest capital cost premium paid back between two
and five years. In short, this is a good example for the sustainable buildings and
works very well. I visited the building twice and I found
How Do Environmental Groups Protect The Amazon
Rainforest
Did you know that for about every hamburger you buy 55 square feet of rainforest
is cleared. Rainforests used to cover 14% of the earth now they cover just 6% this
is a huge amount of area we are destroying. This is because of the loggers and
ranchers. The amazon rainforest is home to one third of the species in the world and
200 indigenous communities. The amazon holds one fourth of all the fresh water in
the world along with one fifth of the world s forests. For these reasons i support
environmental groups in the amazon rainforest.
One of these organizations is The Amazon Conservation Association. They are non
profit and are working in Peru and Bolivia. The staff are very good ecologists and
conservationists. They support locals while protecting land and studying biodiversity
and ecosystems. Another group is Greenpeace International who is campaigning to

Environmental groups support the native amazonians and would like to help them
keep their land. Here are some ways to stop deforestation. We can try to make
corporations help, they have the power to destroy the rainforest but they also have
the power to protect it. There are many things companies can do to stop deforestation
or at least bring it down to a much smaller amount than it currently is at. We can help
by supporting and buying products using recycled wood. If we support corporations
helping the problem of deforestation then other companies will join in and also start
to do things to stop the deforestation happening in the amazon rainforest. The
government has a super important role in the stopping of deforestation and needs to
do its part if we ever want to stop the shrinking of the amazon. In the United States
we have laws and treaties to stop illegal wood from getting into our markets and we
need to get these kind of things
Model Of Self-Republicanism
Unconsciously we all have a standard by which we measure other men, and if we
examine closely we find that this standard is a very simple one, and is this: we
admire them, we envy them, for great qualities we ourselves lack. Hero worship
consists in just that. Our heroes are men who do things, which we recognise, with
regret, and sometimes with a secret shame, that we cannot do. We find not much in
ourselves to admire, we are always privately wanting to be like somebody else. If
everybody was satisfied with himself, there would be no heroes (Mark Twain, 2013).

Sands feels his sacrifice and his decision to go on hunger strike will be justified by the
emergence of a new wave of people fighting for republicanism. Out of the ashes,
guaranteed there will be a new generation of men and women, even more resilient,
more determined (Hunger, 54.18). He is perceived as a leader among men, evident in
the scene in which they attend mass in Hunger, transmitting messages of
encouragement and being the recipient of external instructions.
The self sacrifice of the rebels of 1916 and the hunger strike deaths of Ashe,
MacSwiney, McCaughty and others provided the societal need of role models for self
immolative martyrdom in Northern Ireland during the 1970s and 1980s. Sands, and
the nine other men who died with him in hunger strike, had faced a predicament
similar to Pearse and the rebels of 1916. Pearse had vowed to release Ireland from
British rule and believed that this could be accomplished only by a blood sacrifice.
Sands had vowed to set the republican prisoners free from their categorisation as
criminals, and he too was convinced that only a redeeming act of self sacrifice
would achieve this. Irish history had provided him and his fellow republicans with
the role models to emulate. (Sweeney, 345)
In Hunger, the prisoners desire to be categorised as republican prisoners as opposed
to criminals was further intensified through Thatcher s
The Effects Of Emotional Abuse
The effects emotional abuse has on a victim will stick with them for their entire life.
Even the smallest event can, and usually will, trigger horrific memories that create
anxiety and makes it a struggle to interact with others. It causes the victim to
withdraw from society because they feel they are not worry of social interaction.
When a person is repeatedly told they are stupid, worthless or any other degrading
comments, they begin to believe them. Even worse, they start to believe they deserve
the comments and think they have to change who they are as a person to fit the
expectations of the abuser. Over time, emotional abuse changes how a person thinks
and feels. Their beliefs start to model after the person attacking them. This tends to
make it hard to separate from their attackers. They become trapped in a hostile
environment because they are taught that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It can make a person truly think they are worthless instead of just having a feeling.
When the abuser uses mental abuse it can be a form of control, jealousy,
manipulation or even a hostile environment. Mental abuse can be very intimidating.
(Rogers, 2014) It gets to the point that the assailant does not even have to speak; the
victim becomes so scared of punishment that they do what is expected of them. When
emotional abuse changes over to mental abuse, the attacker is reinforcing their
control over the victim. The mental attacks are meant to force the victim to
completely change how they think and act. This removes all free will and
encourages behavior that matches the assailant s expectations and desires. This is
why victims of domestic abuse become trapped in a relationship and only those
closest to the victim recognizing the changes in the person. When the victim manages
to get free from the person abusing them, if they are able to get away, they are no
longer the same

Also Netflix needs to prepare a better plan to recover old customers, gain new
customers and make sure that the people who still have Netflix keep it. Establishing
a bundle price for both online streaming and DVD rental will allow The Netflix
Company to recover some market shares and remain the leading overall digital film
company. The recommendations are as follows:
1. Advertise the new bundle price of the online streaming and DVD rental. The
advertisement department should develop new commercials about the changes that
Netflix is about to offer for customers. The publicity of the new prices should ensure
the growth on the profit for the company.
2. Emphasize that old customers will get the 1 month trial for free. This will
definitely show all our customers that we want them to come back to Netflix as
loyal customers and also if they come back they will be rewarded.
3. Stop charging for extra Blu ray rentals. Blockbuster has a DVD plans that does not
charge extra for Blu ray. If Netflix offers the same service for a reasonable price more
people will start using Netflix.
Introduction/ Background
Netflix previously had a plan in which it included both online streaming, as well as
unlimited DVDs by mail, 4 out at a time, for $9.99 a month (Gregory, 2011).
However, in July of 2011, CEO, Reed Hastings, announced that they were going to
separate the online and DVDs plan and charge
The Burning Of Petroleum Based Fuels
Can you see the light? As the burning of petroleum based fuels, natural gases, and
coal continues, smog will continue to cover the sky. Pollution from said burning
occurs as greenhouse gases and chemicals. Specifically, petroleum based fuels,
natural gases, and coal release energy when heat breaks the bonds between
hydrogens and carbons, generating energy and releasing carbon dioxide and water as
byproducts. This energy often originates from stored energy preserved in organisms
that eventually died and lingered in the crust. The byproduct carbon dioxide is the
most dominant of the greenhouse gases, which are gases that absorb and release
thermal energy from the Sun. These gases trap thermal energy in the atmosphere
while releasing a small amount into space. Global warming occurs due to the
trapping of this heat. Their covering of the sky and Sun reduces the amount of
sunlight that can reach the Earth. In addition, these energy sources are also bulky
and inefficient. According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (2014),
producing even one kilowatt hour of energy (one kilowatt of electricity expended in
one hour), 0.08 gallons of petroleum based fuel, 1000 cubic feet of natural gases,
and 1.09 pounds of coal ( How much coal, natural gas, or petroleum is used to
generate a kilowatt hour 1 of electricity? ). Despite the availability of alternative
energy sources, most people prefer these dirty energy sources.
Solar power shows promise as a potential alternative.
States of Matter
States of matter are the distinct forms that different phases of matter take on.
Historically, the distinction is made based on qualitative differences in bulk
properties. Solid is the state in which matter maintains a fixed volume and shape;
liquid is the state in which matter maintains a fixed volume but adapts to the shape of
its container; and gas is the state in which matter expands to occupy whatever volume
is available.
This diagram shows the nomenclature for the different phase transitions.
More recently, distinctions between states have been based on differences in
molecular interrelationships. Solid is the state in which intermolecular attractions keep
the molecules in fixed spatial relationships. Liquid is the state in which ... Show more

Solids can also change directly into gases through the process of sublimation.
[edit]Liquid
Main article: Liquid
Structure of a classical monatomic liquid. Atoms have many nearest neighbors in
contact, yet no long range order is present.
‎
The volume is definite if the temperature and pressure are constant. When a solid is
heated above its melting point, it becomes liquid, given that the pressure is higher
than the triple point of the substance. Intermolecular (or interatomic or interionic)
forces are still important, but the molecules have enough energy to move relative to
each other and the structure is mobile. This means that the shape of a liquid is not
definite but is determined by its container. The volume is usually greater than that of
the corresponding solid, the most well known exception being water, H2O. The
highest temperature at which a given liquid can exist is its critical temperature.[5]
[edit]Gas
Main article: Gas
In a gas, the molecules have enough kinetic energy so that the effect of
intermolecular forces is small (or zero for an ideal gas), and the typical distance
between neighboring molecules is much greater than the molecular size. A gas has no
definite shape or volume, but occupies the entire container in which it is confined.
India s A Growing Economic System
For this research report, I want to further the understanding of the Indian attitude,
external opportunities and threats of entrepreneurship, and how the International
world and India is progressing with entrepreneurs. I have an interest in being in
working internationally, after gaining more experience in the corporate/sales area of
a company, which is one of the reasons I chose to explore this topic on an
international level. This paper will cover some basics of entrepreneurship in India.
In India they have a growing economic system. Global Edge states that in 2011,
India s estimated GDP was $1.843 trillion with 7.8% growth (Global Edge). Then
another measurement was taken in 2013; according to the CIA, India s GDP is about

Although India has some of the biggest billionaires living there, more than 30%
50% of the people in India live below the poverty line on about 50 cents a day. It is
a high poverty rate, the highest among all the BRIC countries. In India this
problem is growing and becoming more unbalanced. This is an issue because of
the caste system in India. This castes system makes it extremely difficult for one to
change social classes. Women also have a problem when trying to break into the
workplace, because it is something that is seen as taboo. I recall in a TED TALK
that was shown in a class of mine, it showed how women and lower class citizens
of India were learning about IT and how they were being taught simple key logging
types of work in hopes of the availability of the jobs will help balance the distribution
of income through the lower classes.
The key sectors of the company in India are listed as agriculture (17.4%), industry
(25.8%), and services (56.9%). Many belonging to the lower class in India are
farmers and they spend quite some time selling their produce which proves to be a
difficult tasks since many rural areas do not have the means to provide efficient
transportation (i.e. underdeveloped roads). Because of this, many of their produce go
bad/expire before they make it to the market. The main agricultural products that are
produced in India are rice, wheat, oilseed, cotton, jute, tea, sugarcane, lentils, onions,
potatoes; dairy products,
Amazing Grace Speech
Amazing grace how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me I once was lost
but now I m found, I was blind, but now I see. John Newton, the writer of Amazing
Grace, was man in need of grace as he reminds us in these lyrics. Likewise this
powerful song reminds me of my own need for not just ordinary grace but Gods
amazing grace. But what is God s grace? Why do we need this grace? What impact
does grace have in our lives? Today I ve been given the card: Explain the meaning
and significance of the grace of God. I hope by that by the end of my talk, I will have
answered these questions and explained how God s grace is truly amazing.
1.Definition: What is grace? Grace by itself is often synonymous with mercy,
compassion or forgiveness.Similarly, the New Testament word for Grace comes
from the Greek word charis, which means favor, blessing, or kindness. We can all
extend grace to others; but when the word grace is used in connection with God, it
takes on a more powerful meaning. God s Grace chooses to bless us rather than
curse us as our sin deserve. This fact is very important as it relates to our salvation
which I will discuss in more detail in my next point.
2.Why do we need God s grace? Beginning with Adam and Eve we have all sinned.
Since God being holy and perfect, cannot be in the presence of sin, we are separated
from him. However, from the Garden of Eden when God made the sacrifice to cover
the sin of Adam and Eve to the ever backsliding Israelites, God
Creating A Positive Influence Essay
Our team is made up of people from different parts of the United States. Like the
United States, different persons, or different parts of the country, have diverse
attitudes and values. Also, we naturally have different emotions and personalities. For
all of our differences, like the United States, we can strive to achieve and excel
through collaboration, compromise, and adopting a team first attitude. In terms of
increasing the motivation, satisfaction, and performance of the team, the makeup of
behavior styles seems like they were naturally designed to motivate each other
through strengthening each other s weaknesses. Each member brings a distinctive

Asking these two for input first will always satisfy their desire to get things done.
Susan and Shannon are of the interactive style and have come across as people
pleasers through group discussions. They are both very pleasant, which could be
seen as a bad quality because of their ability to be walked on. They generally agree
with majority decisions so as to not rock the boat but, in direct relation to Fred and
Jason, that could prove costly if the wrong lead on a task is up for debate.
Encouraging these two team members to be more cautiously vocal could be the
perfect water for the seeds of achievement. I was the only member cast into the
perfectly fitting cautious behavioral style.
In terms of our group, I fit in well. I may serve as the check to the Go Getters
balance or possibly the comment spurring motivator to the interactive style
members. Blended together, my role could also prove detrimental to our progress
because of the tendency to over analyze things or be overly critical. These things
could slow the Go Getters progress down or scare the interactive styles of Susan and
Shannon into not sharing an opposing thought with the group. All considered, we all
seem to be very willing to discuss things out logically and collaboratively thus, I
believe all differences between us actually strengthen the abilities of the group.
Our Emotional Intelligence scores were very normal when
House On Mango Street Shame
What is the American Dream? According to Merriam Webster it is a Happy way of
living that is thought by many Americans as something that can be achieved by
anyone in the U.S. especially by working hard and becoming successful. In the
book The House on Mango Street we see the life of a girl named Esperanza and her
struggles it is then shown that many people are trying to reach the American
Dream but are not able to. To Her Mama it would be the fact that she was shameful
back when she was a child and to her family it would be Money and their

The person that it affected the most is in fact Esperanza s mom as it is shown that
she quit school just because she was ashamed of the fact that she did not have any
nice clothes to wear to school. This is shown even more thoroughly as she even
warns Esperanza that shame is a bad thing because it keeps people down and that
she should not ever feel shameful since she knows how it was like to be shameful
and how badly it affected her life. One more character that appears to be shameful
of leaving her apartment room is someone who we really do not know a lot. This
is the woman that is very fat and is said to have been brought to Mango Street by
her husband and she also brought along a child. We then learn that she does not
know any English and that she does not leave her apartment that much showing
that she could be shameful of the fact that she does not know any English but no
one really knows the reason why. We also learn that her husband yells at her, so
maybe that is why she does not want to leave because she is ashamed of this. This
also stops her from reaching the American Dream because she can t even leave her
apartment making it so she really has nowhere to go and nothing to do. This shows
that shame can in fact make it from stopping you from reaching the American Dream
whether it is leaving school or not wanting to leave your

  • 2. Amish Sociological Analysis It is plain to see that Amish society is quite unique with their traditional lifestyles, refuse to use any modern technology, and strict set of morals and values. This uniqueness leaves the modern world completely baffled on how these communities can sustain themselves. People pass by the Amish communities and see this society almost as amazing as a reenactment show rather than a group of real people trying to go about their daily life. So to better understand this faction of people and their society, it is pertinent to analyze this phenomena from a sociological perspective in terms of culture and structure. When looking at the Amishcommunities in terms of culture, it is critical to assess the shared practices and common attitudes of the
  • 3. Did You Know That The Olympics Were Originally Banished Did you know that the Olympics were originally banished and it took 1,503 years for it to officially return? The modern Olympics as we know it today came from the ancient Olympic games that originated in Greece. These things are basically one event that has the same name but they both have very different aspects and core values to them. This is why I chose to compare both and show both sides, so that people may be able to see the evolution of the famous Olympic games. The ancient Olympics had their own style and was very unique. Back in those days, the games were religious celebrations that unified the states and were held in honor of the greek gods this belief system was shared by all people. Furthermore, each of the games ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A Visitor s Guide to the Ancient Olympics Ebrary. For instance, the Elis selections procedure entirely involved the election by popular vote of a group of respectable property owners which caused the citizens to vote tribe by tribe. Then, all of the names were inscribed on potsherds and placed in a large ceramic vessel. Henceforth caused a decision to be made of the nine judges . Faulkner, Neil. A Visitor s Guide to the Ancient Olympics. p.154, 3. In like manner, the contestants that participated in this events were required to undergo a long period of training, including the judges. Their training varied depending on the contest they decided to enter and one of the requirements was to compete completely nude. Another requirement was that they had to swear that they were a freeman, of pure Hellenic blood, did not propose to win by any unfair means and that neither they nor immediate their immediate relatives had been guilty of any outlaw or sacrilegious act. Bill Henry, History of the Olympic Games, p.11, 4. In all, this is the basic history of the Ancient Olympic games. The modern Olympics is completely different than the ancient Olympics, it
  • 4. Tesco Marketing INTRODUCTION Marketing is essentially a matching process between the needs and expectations of customers, and the organization s ability and capacity to satisfy them. One of the main points of this process is the marketing planning. The purpose of marketing planning and its principal focus are the identification and creation of competitive advantage. Marketing planning is the planned application of marketing resources to achieve marketing objectives. In other words, it is the written document that describes your advertising and marketing efforts for the coming year; it includes a statement of the marketing situation, a discussion of target markets and company positioning and a description of the marketing mix you intend to use to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Add to that a high rate of unemployment causes a drop in effective demand for goods, that demand requiring for the production of goods. While these economic factors are largely outside the control of Tesco, they have an undeniable impact on the company business performance and its marketing decisions. Tesco operates in a global world and is now located in several countries, and this international business is still growing, but it remains dependent on the UK market. This excessive concentration on a single market exposes them to risks and would be negatively affected by any slowdown in the UK food market (as the crisis of mad cow in the 1990s) Finally, the economic crisis, which is still current, tends to reduce the purchasing power of consumers, who are much more reluctant and afraid to spend more than they can. New technologies have had a great impact. For instance, online shopping has become a major factor in Tesco s recent success. Technology is the basis for the development of many products in the Tesco range. These new technologies have provided consumers than the company itself. Consumer satisfaction is higher because services are more personalized and responsive to each and shopping becomes more enjoyable and seems less arduous. To obtain customer satisfaction, Tesco has put in place in its stores the following technologies:
  • 5. Essay about Equal Gender Representation in The Gaming... Equal Gender Representation in The Gaming Franchise This paper tries to express how sexism/chauvinism ideas have infected the virtual world of video games, and resulted in a male dominated video gaming industry. Now, being that 49% of U.S. households own a dedicated gaming console (E.S.A. 2012), it is imperative that we address this issue. Gender disparity in the gaming business is exceedingly one sided. Female employees constitute less than 10% of the gaming industry, and even though that shortcoming females have contributed to the video gaming franchise. A small number of females have indeed contributed to the gaming franchise as a result of the industries no girls allowed mentality which strongly suggest that old saying boys only. In... In the fields which make gaming possible: programmers, artist/animators, designers, producers, audio engineers, quality assurance testers and business/legal representatives there was a difference in pay between male and females ranging $10,000 $30,000: male programmers made $93,000 while females made $83,000 male artist and animators made $80,000 while females made $53,000 male game designers made $75,000 while females made $67,000 male producers made $87,000 while females made $78,000 male audio engineers made $83,000 while females made $72,000 male quality assurance testers made $49,000 while females made $39,000 male business/legal reps made $108,000 while their female made $73,000. Female employees constituted below 20% in each field, going as low as 3% in the field of programmers (GDM, 2012). How does this reflect on to the female population? A few state that they felt a sensation of belittlement, especially when they were referred to as girls in the industry instead of women, and others say that they are termed as gamer groupies and not as professionals. One s earnings are a reflection of whom they are in society and, in this case, the gaming society; and in this society females are seen as underneath men in each and every field. In 2012, Luke Crane a game project specialist asked on tweeter, Why are there so few lady game creators? (Forbes, 2012) And, an onslaught of female and males tweets stormed their opinions, with females
  • 6. The Tempest Subjugation The Tempest is a fictional passage discussing the general slavery of an inhabitant and a dismemberment of his culture on his native land. In summary, the main character uses magical powers to take control and inevitably colonize a civilization that lives on an island in order to grow an empire. I believe that William Shakespeare wrote The Tempestin order to discuss the idea of subjugation. Which is defined as the action of bringing someone or something under domination or control. As stated before, The Tempest is a passage overviewing the enslavement of a person for another s gain. The slave being Caliban, and the one enslaving him being Prospero. I see Shakespeare s idea for writing this passage as a way to discuss the unruly mess that
  • 7. Mark Twain Conclusion Mark Twain Let us endeavour so to live so that when we come to die even the undertaker will be sorry. ― Mark Twain Mark Twain was an influential writer, who not only wrote books with a sense of humour, but also with an intellect like no one else. He wrote many books, of which The Adventure of Tom Sawyerand its sequel, Adventures of Huckleberry Finn have become timeless classics. This essay will give a description of Mark Twains life, his written literature and what his work has done for the literary world. When Mark Twain was born in 1835, he got the name Samuel Langhorne Clemens. Around 1863 he later legally changed his name to Mark Twain, when he worked as a riverboat pilot. In his childhood, Mark Twain grew up in Hannibal, along... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mark Twain always came up with quotes from his books, and because of an intense curiosity I started reading his two classics. These books made me feel a variation of emotions, such as happiness and acute desire to learn history and many more. He had an abrupt way of telling things as they were, and a lot of people, including me, were and are drawn to his stories because they do not refine people or society. His tranquil literary style has given these books a sense of rawness to the emotions his characters feel in his books, and the fact that Mark Twain is able to transmit these emotions that goes to the roots of human nature, through only pieces of paper is one of the many reasons why he is an author that almost everybody knows of. He has not only opened many people s eyes, but also motivated great authors, such as Ernest Hemingway and William Falkner. Mark Twain is able to create characters that can see their environment from several perspectives, a great talent to have and it teaches everybody who reads The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn , and The Adventure of Tom Sawyer the basic intuition of seeing things from other people s perspective. To conclude, Mark Twain is still relevant today and he teaches people the importance of empathy, but also gives an insight to how unjust the society was before. He has written many great things, a lot of them based on humour, such as The Adventures of
  • 8. Individuality And Morality In A Clockwork Orange A Clockwork Orange: Individuality, Morality, and Growing Up Anthony Burgess s novel, A Clockwork Orange, presents a struggle between animalistic urges and mechanistic society by way of the motif of a clockwork orange. Many would agree that a clock and an orange share little in common other than the fact that they may both be round. However, the organic nature of an orange combined with the precision and mechanics of a clock curiously imitates the way people respond to everyday influences. Anthony Burgess capitalizes on the differences between these two seemingly unrelated objects to present the connection between morality and conformity within the confines of the novel s narrator, Alex. Throughout the three parts of the novel, it becomes more apparent that every seemingly harmless life can be manipulated by the clockwork of society. Alex is a young boy living in the near future, whose obsession with the brutality of the world around him causes him to act violently. The portrayal of the character Alex as both a protagonist and an antagonist highlights the psychological turmoil associated with conforming to society by sacrificing either morality for individuality or individuality for morality. The word faithful is often misinterpreted as always having a positive connotation. The dictionary definition of faithful, adhering or true to fact, a standard, an original , can be interpreted more widely (Dictionary.com). In the beginning of A Clockwork Orange, Alex refers to himself

Hispanic And Non Hispanic Americans Latinos/ Hispanics are one of the races that have a background with the higher risk to get diabetes type 2, but in what way does being Latino affect the course of the illness and what roll does culture takes in this problematic? There is a considerable difference between Hispanic and Non Hispanics. Many factors can be the reasons for this difference in numbers, but the most influential factors are culture, acculturation and, the medical cultural competence. First, for Latinos, studies have found that the prevalence of total diabetes, diagnosed and undiagnosed, among all Hispanic/Latino groups was roughly 16.9 percent of both men and women, compared to 10.2 percent of non Hispanic whites. However, when looking at Hispanic/Latino groups individually, it found that prevalence varied from a high of 18.3 percent for those of Mexican descent to a low of 10.2 percent for people of South American descent. The study showed 18.1 percent of people of Dominican and Puerto Rican descent; 17.7 percent of Central American descent; and 13.4 percent of Cuban descent living in the United States had type 2 diabetes (Alexandria, 2014). As people believe, also prevalence rose dramatically with age, reaching more than 50 percent for Hispanic/Latino women by the time they reached age 70 and 44.3 percent for men aged 70 74. Although this may be true, Latinos who migrate to the US have increased their rates of diabetes. The reason for this is the acculturation and how fast they take it. According

In other words, countries with an abundance of natural resources are less developed and tend to grow slower than resource poor countries (Sachs Warner, 2001). It may seem that having plenty of natural resources is a gift, yet the fact is economic growth in countries like Indonesia and Nigeria do not actually show that the profusion of natural resources are a blessing (The Economist, 2000). Expectation to have a high growth economy because of being rich in natural resources has gone. In fact, natural resources have been causing many major conflicts to those resource rich countries in terms of economics, international relations, and environment (Ross, 2003). Looking back on Indonesia s history, Indonesia was colonized by the Dutch for 3.5 centuries, the reason was simply because Indonesia is rich of natural resources, due to the limitations of natural resources, especially herbs and spices back in Netherlands (Cribb, n.d.). During that time the Dutch tried to get the natural resources as much as they could without considering the welfare of the Indonesian (Cribb, n.d.). The research was conducted based on 3 different hypotheses which they thought might influence people s helping behavior. One of the hypotheses was that, people that were thinking in terms of religious would have any effect on helping others. Second one was that people that are in a rush will be less likely to offer any help to others compared to the ones that are not in a rush. And the third one is that, people who are religious, more in a Samaritanfashion, would be more like offer aid than those of a priest or more of a Levite fashion. Instead of just analyzing scripture, the researchers put the participants randomly into various conditions, such as causing some of them to rush somewhere and others to take their time to go to that same place; making people think from a religious point of view and for others it was not quite necessary. For the study, both researchers chose participants from the Princeton Theological Seminary. There was also a 6 point scale set to measure the helping behavior. Together we formed the beginning of the 7 Rivers Robotics Coalition. This philosophy of helping and working together as a cohesive alliance of teams carries us forward and remains a major motivation in our team today. One of the highlights of our season each year is the 7 RRC Week Zero Event; a mini competition run by our coalition the last Sunday of the build season. Teams in the coalition take turns hosting this useful and exciting clash. After our first week zero event, Team 4021, one of the teams we started in 2012, went on to win the Rookie All Star Award. Two years later, the Sir Lancer Bots started three more teams; Team 5019 in West Salem, Team 5339 in Houston, and Team 5003 in Onalaska. During the 2014 season West Salem and Houston both won the Rookie All Star award at their respective competitions. In 2014, the Seven Rivers Robotics Coalition became a 501 (c)3 non profit organization. Individual teams have become non profits before, but never before had a group of teams been organized this way. We could now apply for larger sponsors and most importantly, spread and practice our philosophy of teaching, mentoring, and helping one another across all borders. Every year the coalition

A lot can be learned about rhetoric by looking at these two articles: 5 Charts That Show Sexism Is Still Alive and Well in Gaming and The Integrity of Women and Gender Studies . One portrays the gaming community as sexist and underrepresenting women (Kleeman) while the other condemns modern feminism for treating women as victims and vilifying men (Frohlich). The first uses many logical arguments that are used to bring emotion to the reader, and make them feel like certain things are ethically wrong (Kleeman). The second uses a slightly different technique, since it is explicitly an opinion piece (Frohlich). It leads the author to be trusted by the reader, and then presents the author s opinions that are backed by logical arguments (Frohlich). It also causes the reader to experience emotional and ethical feelings (Frohlich). 5 Charts That Show Sexism Is Still Alive and Well in Gaming This text is published by a media company called Mic. General Motors, Jpy-Usd Exposure Daniel Pinga AEM 4290 General Motors, JPY USD Exposure Executive Summary General Motors Corporation, the world s largest automaker, has an extensive global outreach, which places the firm in competition with automakers worldwide, and subjects itself to significant exchange rate exposure. In particular, despite most of its revenues and production being derived from North America, depreciating yen rates pose problems for the firm indirectly through economic exposure. While GM possesses passive hedging strategies for balance sheet and income statement exposures, management has not yet quantified or recognized solutions to possible losses from the indirect competitive exposure it now shared with Japanese automakers in the U.S import ... Having appreciating USD in their assets column, with depreciating yen in their liabilities column, this has lowered cost structure and expanded profit margins for firms such as Nissan, Honda and Toyota. Now, these automakers are able to pass on their reduced costs to consumers via sticker price reductions between 15 45% of cost savings, or through added incentives. According to Exhibit 6, as of 2000, per vehicle incentives of GM ($1,969) far exceeds those of Toyota and Honda, at $725 and 664, respectively; this competitive advantage GM currently holds, as well as its relative market share in the U.S., are endangered if Japanese firms choose to move their incentive values closer to the industry average. Looking into the competitive threat more closely, the auto industry in the United States is rather sensitive to price, with a price elasticity of 2, or a 5% increase in price contributing to a subsequent 10% fall in demand. Thus, based upon the sticker price decreases potentially implemented by Japanese automakers, Japanese companies combined market share (roughly 4.1m units in 2000) stands to increase substantially, and could eat into General Motors overall market share. To highlight the sensitivity to the USD JPY spot exchange rate, GM s VP of Finance, Eric Feldstein, suggests that just a one yen depreciation increases competitors operating profit by $400m. With $900m in net yen receivables, $500m in outstanding yen denominated bonds, and more

Cohen (1996) described prospective memory as remembering a plan of action as well as remembering to do it at a specified time or within certain timelimits. Majority of each day is spent forming objectives and performing those objectives; therefore according to Crovitz Daniel 1984, most of a days forgetting is due to a failure in your prospective memory. This changes the task of conflict detection to be based on more of a visual perception. The time that the alert is given is also important in order to help the ATCO to adopt strategies that support prospective memory. When the alert is designed to take place at a moment that gives enough time for a reaction, then the alert is actually reminding the AT controller to perform an action and is therefore effective in relieving the prospective memory. However if the alert takes place after this optimal moment, there is not enough time for the reaction and therefore the AT controller must adopt another strategy, which does not rely on the alert for identifying conflicts, and the prospective memory is less supported. Therefore the use of prominent aids at appropriate times is a vital part of prospective

The taxes gained by legalized soft drug use is comparable to cigarette sales and alcoholic beer sales tax. This is national and local revenue that usually would be lost do to laws outlawing the sales. Also the lack of law enforcement and jail space frees up billions of dollars that would otherwise have been used to find, charge, and incarcerate marijuana dealers and users. The only economic loses I can see in legalized soft drugs is the healthcare and rehabilitation part of it. But many times there is no need for this since there is no addictive nature to marijuana unlike cigarettes or hereditary addiction to alcohol. There is a need for rehab to the hard drug users which is not legal in Holland but many times tolerated. Legal marijuana use also saves the users hundreds of dollars maybe even thousands a year. Since the cost of it is lowered due to it being taken off the black market and regulated it is less expensive to purchase. Also the punishment for possession is taken away hence no jail time and lost wages or fines that could drain a persons income. The gains from legalized marijuana are enormous and

These babies can vary in term of prematurity, from two to three weeks, to extremely preterm at over ten weeks. Goldberg and Devitto (2002, as cited in Leman, Bremner, Parke Gauvain, 2012) stated prematurity is associated with low birth weight, putting infants at risk of long term issues such as faulty cognition, hyperactivity and perceptual disorders. Werner and Smith (1982, as cited in Leman et al., 2012) stated recent developments indicate high quality care and extra stimulation can improve the prognosis of the infant. Parents provide this environment for the child, yet often they feel alienated and worried about caring for their premature infant, meaning stimulation is lacking. (Leman et al., 2012) Therefore, some say parenting interventions are essential for normal infant development. However, research is often conflicting with regards to interventions improving prognosis. Within the main body of the essay we will be discussing some parenting intervention schemes such as massage therapy and the use of family nurture interventions, which have overall supported the view that parenting interventions are effective. Whilst also touching upon research that indicates less positive results, including infant behavioural assessments and intervention programs. Parenting massage interventions are said to be effective in improving outcomes such as enhanced cognitive development and lower

The Nativists felt entitled to a certain amount of wealth because they were U.S born. This was irrelevant to big corporations and factories because they simply needed a body to maximize profits. It didn t matter if one was white, black, German, or Irish because the profit exceeded any of these divides. The nativists built political opposition with their I Know Nothing Party, which was a political group that believed in restricting immigration and those not part of the main culture. The Irish were Roman Catholic, so combined with their willingness to work for cheap, the Irish were also in support of the pope. Most Americans were protestant, and they did not want to have Irish majority because they feared having a populous that would prioritize the Pope over the government. They did not want the power of the Pope to intervene and harm America s interest, and that fueled the Nativist movements. Nativists pushed for literacy tests in voting which excluded a large majority of the Irish at first because many of them were illiterate. Although even if they were literate, the person conducting the test would arbitrarily determine and make that decision. They also push for longer wait times for naturalization and citizenship as well as the overall banning of the Irish, but those laws never come to pass. However, it came to a point where the laws of New England mandated that all children go to school, and Irish soon were educated enough not be excluded. The Nativist movement ultimately crumbles because the overwhelming majority of Irish Immigrants coming in were supported by big factories that like a cheap labor supply as well as the unfeasibility of stopping such a large body of the population from having a say in the politics of American Society. The government never supports the nativists because they like the idea of more people

  • 51. The Burning Of Petroleum Based Fuels Can you see the light? As the burning of petroleum based fuels, natural gases, and coal continues, smog will continue to cover the sky. Pollution from said burning occurs as greenhouse gases and chemicals. Specifically, petroleum based fuels, natural gases, and coal release energy when heat breaks the bonds between hydrogens and carbons, generating energy and releasing carbon dioxide and water as byproducts. This energy often originates from stored energy preserved in organisms that eventually died and lingered in the crust. The byproduct carbon dioxide is the most dominant of the greenhouse gases, which are gases that absorb and release thermal energy from the Sun. These gases trap thermal energy in the atmosphere while releasing a small amount into space. Global warming occurs due to the trapping of this heat. Their covering of the sky and Sun reduces the amount of sunlight that can reach the Earth. In addition, these energy sources are also bulky and inefficient. According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (2014), producing even one kilowatt hour of energy (one kilowatt of electricity expended in one hour), 0.08 gallons of petroleum based fuel, 1000 cubic feet of natural gases, and 1.09 pounds of coal ( How much coal, natural gas, or petroleum is used to generate a kilowatt hour 1 of electricity? ). Despite the availability of alternative energy sources, most people prefer these dirty energy sources. Solar power shows promise as a potential alternative.

Solid is the state in which matter maintains a fixed volume and shape; liquid is the state in which matter maintains a fixed volume but adapts to the shape of its container; and gas is the state in which matter expands to occupy whatever volume is available. This diagram shows the nomenclature for the different phase transitions. More recently, distinctions between states have been based on differences in molecular interrelationships. Solid is the state in which intermolecular attractions keep the molecules in fixed spatial relationships. Liquid is the state in which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Solids can also change directly into gases through the process of sublimation. [edit]Liquid Main article: Liquid Structure of a classical monatomic liquid. Atoms have many nearest neighbors in contact, yet no long range order is present. ‎ The volume is definite if the temperature and pressure are constant. When a solid is heated above its melting point, it becomes liquid, given that the pressure is higher than the triple point of the substance. Intermolecular (or interatomic or interionic) forces are still important, but the molecules have enough energy to move relative to each other and the structure is mobile. This means that the shape of a liquid is not definite but is determined by its container. The volume is usually greater than that of the corresponding solid, the most well known exception being water, H2O. The highest temperature at which a given liquid can exist is its critical temperature.[5] [edit]Gas Main article: Gas In a gas, the molecules have enough kinetic energy so that the effect of intermolecular forces is small (or zero for an ideal gas), and the typical distance between neighboring molecules is much greater than the molecular size. A gas has no definite shape or volume, but occupies the entire container in which it is confined.

India s A Growing Economic System For this research report, I want to further the understanding of the Indian attitude, external opportunities and threats of entrepreneurship, and how the International world and India is progressing with entrepreneurs. I have an interest in being in working internationally, after gaining more experience in the corporate/sales area of a company, which is one of the reasons I chose to explore this topic on an international level. This paper will cover some basics of entrepreneurship in India. In India they have a growing economic system. Global Edge states that in 2011, India s estimated GDP was $1.843 trillion with 7.8% growth (Global Edge). Then another measurement was taken in 2013; according to the CIA, India s GDP is about $4.99 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although India has some of the biggest billionaires living there, more than 30% 50% of the people in India live below the poverty line on about 50 cents a day. It is a high poverty rate, the highest among all the BRIC countries. In India this problem is growing and becoming more unbalanced. This is an issue because of the caste system in India. This castes system makes it extremely difficult for one to change social classes. Women also have a problem when trying to break into the workplace, because it is something that is seen as taboo. I recall in a TED TALK that was shown in a class of mine, it showed how women and lower class citizens of India were learning about IT and how they were being taught simple key logging types of work in hopes of the availability of the jobs will help balance the distribution of income through the lower classes. The key sectors of the company in India are listed as agriculture (17.4%), industry (25.8%), and services (56.9%). Many belonging to the lower class in India are farmers and they spend quite some time selling their produce which proves to be a difficult tasks since many rural areas do not have the means to provide efficient transportation (i.e. underdeveloped roads). Because of this, many of their produce go bad/expire before they make it to the market. The main agricultural products that are produced in India are rice, wheat, oilseed, cotton, jute, tea, sugarcane, lentils, onions, potatoes; dairy products,
  • 54. Amazing Grace Speech Amazing grace how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me I once was lost but now I m found, I was blind, but now I see. John Newton, the writer of Amazing Grace, was man in need of grace as he reminds us in these lyrics. Likewise this powerful song reminds me of my own need for not just ordinary grace but Gods amazing grace. But what is God s grace? Why do we need this grace? What impact does grace have in our lives? Today I ve been given the card: Explain the meaning and significance of the grace of God. I hope by that by the end of my talk, I will have answered these questions and explained how God s grace is truly amazing. 1.Definition: What is grace? Grace by itself is often synonymous with mercy, compassion or forgiveness.Similarly, the New Testament word for Grace comes from the Greek word charis, which means favor, blessing, or kindness. We can all extend grace to others; but when the word grace is used in connection with God, it takes on a more powerful meaning. God s Grace chooses to bless us rather than curse us as our sin deserve. This fact is very important as it relates to our salvation which I will discuss in more detail in my next point. 2.Why do we need God s grace? Beginning with Adam and Eve we have all sinned. Since God being holy and perfect, cannot be in the presence of sin, we are separated from him. However, from the Garden of Eden when God made the sacrifice to cover the sin of Adam and Eve to the ever backsliding Israelites, God

Like the United States, different persons, or different parts of the country, have diverse attitudes and values. Also, we naturally have different emotions and personalities. For all of our differences, like the United States, we can strive to achieve and excel through collaboration, compromise, and adopting a team first attitude. In terms of increasing the motivation, satisfaction, and performance of the team, the makeup of behavior styles seems like they were naturally designed to motivate each other through strengthening each other s weaknesses. Each member brings a distinctive personality with a variety of experiences that could be very different from the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Asking these two for input first will always satisfy their desire to get things done. Susan and Shannon are of the interactive style and have come across as people pleasers through group discussions. They are both very pleasant, which could be seen as a bad quality because of their ability to be walked on. They generally agree with majority decisions so as to not rock the boat but, in direct relation to Fred and Jason, that could prove costly if the wrong lead on a task is up for debate. Encouraging these two team members to be more cautiously vocal could be the perfect water for the seeds of achievement. I was the only member cast into the perfectly fitting cautious behavioral style. In terms of our group, I fit in well. I may serve as the check to the Go Getters balance or possibly the comment spurring motivator to the interactive style members. Blended together, my role could also prove detrimental to our progress because of the tendency to over analyze things or be overly critical. These things could slow the Go Getters progress down or scare the interactive styles of Susan and Shannon into not sharing an opposing thought with the group. All considered, we all seem to be very willing to discuss things out logically and collaboratively thus, I believe all differences between us actually strengthen the abilities of the group. Our Emotional Intelligence scores were very normal when
  • 56. House On Mango Street Shame What is the American Dream? According to Merriam Webster it is a Happy way of living that is thought by many Americans as something that can be achieved by anyone in the U.S. especially by working hard and becoming successful. In the book The House on Mango Street we see the life of a girl named Esperanza and her struggles it is then shown that many people are trying to reach the American Dream but are not able to. To Her Mama it would be the fact that she was shameful back when she was a child and to her family it would be Money and their Background. What is the biggest obstacle to reaching the American Dream. The three main reasons are Shame, Background, but the biggest one would be Money as it seems most people are affected by the fact... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The person that it affected the most is in fact Esperanza s mom as it is shown that she quit school just because she was ashamed of the fact that she did not have any nice clothes to wear to school. This is shown even more thoroughly as she even warns Esperanza that shame is a bad thing because it keeps people down and that she should not ever feel shameful since she knows how it was like to be shameful and how badly it affected her life. One more character that appears to be shameful of leaving her apartment room is someone who we really do not know a lot. This is the woman that is very fat and is said to have been brought to Mango Street by her husband and she also brought along a child. We then learn that she does not know any English and that she does not leave her apartment that much showing that she could be shameful of the fact that she does not know any English but no one really knows the reason why. We also learn that her husband yells at her, so maybe that is why she does not want to leave because she is ashamed of this. This also stops her from reaching the American Dream because she can t even leave her apartment making it so she really has nowhere to go and nothing to do. This shows that shame can in fact make it from stopping you from reaching the American Dream whether it is leaving school or not wanting to leave your
