Victoria Chemicals Case Study Essay
Victoria Chemicals: Case study Introduction Victoria Chemicals is a major competitor in the
worldwide chemical industry. They are a leading producer of polypropylene, which is a polymer used
in products such as medical products and automobile components. Victoria Chemicals started up in
1967 when they built two plants, one in Merseyside, England and one in Rotterdam, Holland. Both
plants were identical to each other and produced an equal amount of goods. In 2008 these two plants
have an old fashioned production process of polypropylene and the production costs are some of the
highest in the industry. The plants need to be renovated and rationalized. Victoria Chemicals was also
under pressure from investors to improve their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When comparing the two different investment plans and the cash flows included, you can see that
there are differences between the Merseyside and Rotterdam projects. In Merseyside tax has been
included in the calculations but it is not included as a post, this could easily be added on a separate
post, as done for Rotterdam. In Merseyside a preliminary engineering cost of GBP0,5 million, which
had been spent over the preceding 9 months, has been included. This is a sunk cost, i.e. an
unrecoverable cost for which the firm is already liable . This is a cost already paid for and is not
incremental with respect to the current decision and should not be included in the investment plan.
Overhead expenses are associated with activities that are not directly attributed to a single business
activity but instead affect many different areas of the corporation. These costs are not incremental to
the project and should not be included. But additional overhead expenses caused by the decision to
take on the project must be included. Victoria Chemicals has a corporate policy manual and according
to the manual new projects should be able to sustain a reasonable proportion of corporate overhead
expenses. Thus, all new capital projects should reflect an annual pre tax charge amounting to 3.5 % of
the initial asset investment for the project. This cost has been included for Merseyside but not for
Rotterdam. Though, according to

Inaccurate Perceptions In Special Schools
When I transfused to a different school there was one inaccurate perception all of the students made
and it was that I was stupid just because I was in special education classes. The reason I know this is
because Jeff told me after we started dating what he was told. Jeff said that when he saw me for the
first time he thought I was really pretty and John said you don t want to go out with her she s stupid
she s in special education class Jeff said I don t care about that I want to get to know her. I thought that
what John had said was very rude! I knew I wasn t stupid and others that got to know me figured that
out very quickly. I graduated in the top of my class with a 3.5 gpa, but still most of my classmates
thought that the reason I was

Emory University Hospital Case Summary
1. The alternative to using the CPOE is a paper system, this is not ideal because a major source of
death in hospitals are preventable, and a 69% of these preventable deaths involve to some capacity
patient management. Furthermore, by computerizing patient prescriptions, the hospital reduces the
likelihood of errors due to confusion over similar sounding drugs, reduces the need for faxes and other
handoffs, and standardizes patient records across the Emory system. Furthermore, this system gives
nurses, physician assistants, and pharmacists more time to focus on other tasks, such as ensuring
proper medicine is distributed, and less time on routine tasks involving the order system, although this
does come at the expense of the doctor spending ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Implementing CPOE at Emory University Hospital Midtown would be harder due to the fact that it is
an open staff, community hospital. This meant that community physicians, unaffiliated with Emory,
and lacking CPOE training, could practice medicine at the hospital. This meant that extra time and
money would have to be spend ensuring that every doctor who practices medicine at the Midtown
location is given the necessarily training. Furthermore, since a major reason for reluctant acceptance
of the CPOE system at the other Emory locations was the constant presence of CPOE experts, this
could pose a problem at Emory Midtown where the doctors are constantly changing, and it could be
costly and inefficient to keep CPOE experts long enough for the vast majority of community
physicians to gain comfort with the system. A second problem is the lack of resistant s as compared to
the other Emory hospitals. Since residents were often the ones using the CPOE systems on doctors
behalves, at Emory Midtown there would be an inherent lack of tech savvy residents, further
perpetuating the issue of training community physicians. An advantage of the Midtown location would
be that since the doctors are constantly rotating, there is not as much organization inertia and
resistance to change in implementing a change in IT system, although this strength is probably offset
by the aforementioned

Public Relations As A Regular Tradition
Due to the early accounts of public relations utilising manipulative practices as a regular tradition,
these tactics have thus overshadowed and continued to be the predominant view of public relations
within modern contexts. This essay will argue that public relations has evolved considerably beyond
the age of press agentry, yet will still acknowledge the existence of some present day uses of these
schemes. Firstly, this essay will explore the history of public relations to establish and enforce the
need for change within the profession. Secondly, this essay will discuss the various new practices and
procedures of public relations implied into modern society and how this aligns with the continuing
ethical development of this profession. Lastly, the essay will analyse the use of methods associated
with the press agentry period in recent years.
Public relations is historically categorised in three stages known as manipulation, information and
mutual benefit, with each consisting of a different core set of values, methods and desired outcomes.
The manipulation period was known for its continuous abuse of press agentry and publicity stunts to
further its manipulative attempt to gain the attention of the public through the media . To summarise
the manipulation era was infatuated with profit gain and often acted without a moral compass by
fabricating elaborate stories to entice the interest of the public, thus furthering their financial success.

In developed countries, the rate of permanent disability or death after such procedures is between 0.4
and 0.8% ( Minto and Bruce Biccard 2014).
Many patients undergoing major non cardiac surgery are at increased risk for cardiovascular event
which depend on patient related risk factors, and on the circumstances under which it takes place (
Wirthlin and Cambria 1998) . Surgical factors that influence cardiac risk are related to the urgency,
invasiveness, type, and duration of the procedure (Mangano 2004). Vascular surgery (Garg 2015) and

How Is Situational Irony Used In The Scarlet Letter
Novelist, Ernest Hemingway, in his novel, The Scarlet Letter, writes about the Puritan life and how
some characters with through a rough path of disobeying the Puritan culture. He has many characters
that represent many different things in his novel. Hemingway uses an abundance of rhetorical
strategies. One of the ones that he uses is irony. He uses different types of irony such as verbal,
situational and dramatic to shows the imperfect world that the Puritans really had. Verbal irony is
when the speakers says one thing but means another, or saying something without realizing its
significance. An example of verbal irony would be when Hester stands on the scaffold. Dimmesdale
wants her to tell her sins. Dimmesdale tells her that her silence would only add hypocrisy to sin. This
is ironic because he does not know how much hypocrisy his life will be. Another example of verbal
irony is when Pearl asked Hester, Why does Dimmesdale cover his ... Show more content on

Dramatic irony is when the reader knows something that characters in the story do not know. An
example would be when Hester tries to convince the governor to let her keep Pearl because they do
not think that she is a fit mother. She wants Dimmesdale to talk for her because he knows her best.
This is dramatic irony because everybody else thinks he knows her best because he is the reverend but
the reader knows that he actually committed the same sin and their equal. Another example of
dramatic irony would be when Dimmesdale becomes sick and moves in with Chillingworth because
he is the town s doctor and his suppose to nurse him back to better. Chillingworth is only making
Dimmesdale sickness worse. He reminds him of how bad it is to commit sin and what it does to you. It
is also dramatic irony because the reader knows that Dimmesdale is Hester s father before anybody
else knows. Hawthorne uses dramatic irony to create the story and all of its good

Rent Control Of The United States

Rent Control in the United States
Rent control is a law that places a price ceiling on the amount of rent a landlord can charge a tenant.
People from middle and lower income brackets tend to benefit from rent control, while people from
the upper income brackets do not. The whole purpose as to why rent control exists is so that tenants
from the lower income groups are not exploited by greedy landlords through government intervention.
Landlords who own property in expensive cities like San Francisco are not able to charge market rates
of rent as that would displace many poor people. While rent control was created with good intentions
by the government, rent control is overall more harmful to the economy than good. Rent control goes
back to the days of World War I. During the years following the war, the United States was
experiencing a large shortage of housing. John W. Willis, author of the article Short History of Rent
Control Laws wrote, Housing shortages, however, are not new, and it should not be surprising
therefore to find that modern attempts to intervene in the relationship between landlord and tenant find
precedents going back hundreds of years (Willis 54). The war was a reason because the wives of the
soldiers acquired jobs in manufacturing plants, factories, and other places. This caused a surge in
population, which then increased the demand for housing accommodations near places of

These people weren t trying to kill me, they were just going about their daily lives, same as every
other person. Besides, I didn t even have my gun with me. I didn t trust myself with it ever since I shot
a hole in the bedroom door while my wife was sleeping because I thought I heard someone coming up
the stairs. At this point, the man was maybe twenty feet away from me. I could feel my heart pounding
against my chest, my mind urging me to bolt for the door and make an escape. More questions flashed
through my mind, all of them without answers. Who are you? What are you going to do to me? What
do you WANT? I was being noticeably paranoid, and the bartender must have caught on because he
put his hand on my shoulder. Startled, I nearly jumped out of my seat. He had probably said something

Legalizing marijuana would make the drug easily accessible, which could potential lead to abuse and
potential health effects in adolescence and adults that abuse the drug. This law could potentially
increase crimes and the number of arrests for driving under the influence of drugs, which puts the
safety of our citizens at risk. States should consider their options in order to fight legalizing of
marijuana in their states. This paper provides some concepts around the impacts a state could incur
and encourages the state to look beyond dollars earned and to ensure the state understands some of the
impacts associated such as higher accidents and fatalities, increased criminal activity and a higher
number homeless people. This could be solved by maintaining the federal regulations on controlled

The Importance Of Family Relationships In Rocket Boys
Family is the most important thing a person has which is why family relationships a number one in
keeping a family together and happy. To have a strong family you need to have respect, not pick
favorites, treat everyone the way you want to be treated. Family is all you have in the long run and
they will always be there when maybe you do not think they will but they always have you back. Just
like in Rocket Boys the dad was very tough and sometimes things were not always perfect the the
Hickman Family.
Homer Sr began to pick sides very early in the book because he was more proud of his son Jim being
an all star football player where as Homer Jr was a nerd who wanted to build a rocket. Homer Sr
would pay a lot more attention to Jim which made Jr very sad and upset and he started disliking his
father early on because of that. It started tearing the family about because he would not like his dad
because he would pick sides but he would also not like his brother because he was getting all of the
attention and Jr was very jealous about that.
To get out of here, you ve got to show your dad you re smarter than he thinks. I believe you can build
a rocket. He doesn t. I want you to show him I m right and he s wrong. Is that too much to ask? This
quote was a conversation between Homer Jr and his mother Elise and at the beginning of the quote is

Human Development Index ( Hdi )
After market reforms where announced in the late 1970s by Deng Xiaoping (paramount leader), China
has been among the most rapidly growing economies in the world. Although having serious natural
resource scarcity this growth has been speared headed through 80% of china s exports are
manufactured goods making china heavily dependant on international markets (export led) . The Gross
Domestic Product per capita (GDP) of china in 1962 was at record lows of 130.14 USD, since market
reforms, China regularly exceeding 10% GDP growth annually (figure 1) and was last recorded at
6416.18 US dollars in 2015 .
Gross national income (GNI) is the total income received by all households, including that earned in
foreign countries. China is ranked 113th in 2013 in the world having an $11,850PPP and although
GNI does not measure economic development it is used to measure the ability to buy goods and
services . Human development index (HDI) is a composite indicator measurement based on life
expediency, education and standard of living GDP, chia in ranked 101st in the world .
This growth has led to an increase in the standard of living and a decline in poverty. As differences in
the cost of living across the world evolve so does the poverty line. Since 2008, the last update, the
poverty line has increased $0.25c to $1.25. As of October 2015, the line has further increased $0.65c

African American Vernacular Essay
September 28, 2013
According to the Merriam Webster Online Dictionary, the definition of vernacular is of, relating to, or
being a nonstandard language or dialect of a place, region, or country. In terms of African American
history, the evolution of vernacular is very important and a very unique part of the culture. The
African American vernacular has aided the development of a distinct culture in terms of what African
Americans were subjected to from the installation of slavery. The African American vernacular was

It shed light on the lynching of African American men in the South. Lynching s occurred in other
regions of the United States, but mainly in the South. Strange Fruit is commonly known as a song of
social change. As mentioned before, this poem helped to expose racism in the U.S. During this time,
many people were fighting for the civil rights of African American that had been stymied by
institutionalized racism. Jim Crow laws of the South are an example of institutionalized racism. Jim
Crow laws limited the civil rights of African American and deemed them second class citizens. Even
during the days of slavery, there were many efforts made that helped to expose the atrocities that
occurred against African Americans. This included photographs and written works such as books and
newspaper articles.
During the early 20th century, racism against African Americans was exposed via songs that called for
a change of societal practices and views. Southern trees bear a strange fruit, blood on the leaves and

Strange Fruit. Here is fruit for the crows to pluck, for the rain to gather, for the wind to suck, for the

Advantage And Disadvantages Of Amino Acids
Source: Kumar et al., 2012]
[E] Protein (Amino Acids): Amino acids are the second type of natural compounds that plants produce
to solublize and translocate minerals. Plants manufacture these compounds to make mineral
biologically available in the cell. Even when unchelated or uncomplexed minerals are sprayed on
plants, the mineral must combine with an organic compounds such as an amino acids before the plant
can effectively utilize it. As with organic acids, amino acid compounds also play a role in mineral
uptake into plant tissue, because of the increase permeability effect of the amino acid on the cuticle

A Few Things To Know About Having Laser Surgery On Your Cataracts
If you have cataracts, you may be able to put up with cloudy vision for a few years, but eventually,
you ll probably need surgery to remove the cataracts and improve your vision. That s because
cataracts continue to grow and your vision gets progressively worse over the years. At some point,
your vision may become so impaired you have difficulty driving at night, or you may increase your
risk of falling. Cataract surgery is very common and it is a relatively safe procedure. It is even being
done with lasers now, which lowers the risks further. Here are a few things to know about having your

Laser surgery is no different. Of course, if you want to have laser surgery, you need to make sure the
doctor you choose has necessary laser device, computer, and software system in the office, because
many doctors still do the procedure by hand. If you have cataracts in both eyes, you ll probably only
have one eye done at a time since your vision may be blurry for a few days. Your eyes will be dilated
and numbed with medication before the doctor begins, and you ll probably go home with an eye patch.
During the surgery, your doctor may be able to insert a new lens that corrects any vision problems you
have such as being farsighted or nearsighted. Then, once you ve healed from your surgery, the
cloudiness will be gone and your vision might be improved enough to allow you to go without glasses.
Deciding on the right time to have the laser surgery depends on different variables. If your cataracts
grow slowly, you may be able to put off the surgery for a long time. However, it isn t worth
postponing the procedure if your vision is impaired to the point where it affects your quality of

homicides in the United States are gun related. Arizona is ranked the eleventh worst state. Nearly
36,000 people died in gun related incidents in 2013. This is an increase of 13.8% in the past ten years.
The CDC keeps track of all gun related deaths for each state. Fatalities include homicide, suicide, and
accidents. While gun laws are uniform across the United States, none of the states with the most gun
violence require an individual to have a permit to buy rifles, shotguns, or handguns. The owners are
not required to register their guns either in any of these states. This is valuable because it shows that
the worst states for gun violence are due to having uniform laws when clearly they don t. These states
don t require anything for people to get a gun. Arizona is on this list. What is our world coming to?

However, the precise incidence of GIST is unknown because of the incomplete definition and

were frequently misclassified as leiomyomas, leiomyoblastomas, leiomyosarcomas, schwannomas,
gastrointestinal autonomic nerve tumours, or other similar soft tissue histologies. Consequently,
interpretation of clinical results for reports on GISTS published before 2000 can be misconceiving.
GISTs cases have been reported in all ages including children but over 90% occur in adults over 40
years old, in a median age of 63 years. Study reported that there may be a slight predominance of
males with regard to the incidence between sexes but generally it is considered to be the same9. The
most common reported location of GISTs is the stomach (50 60%), as seen in both cases described
previously and small intestine (30% 40%). 5 10% of GISTs arise from the colon and rectum and 5%
are located in the oesophagus. However, other less common sites are extracolonic like the mesentery,
retroperitoneum and the omentum. In these cases outside the gastrointestinal tract, the tumors are

The Civil Rights Achievements Of The Famous African...
This autobiographical analysis will define the civil rights achievements of the famous African
American actor, Canada Lee. Lee s background as a jockey, boxer, and a musician would set the stage
for a major acting career in theater and in Hollywood. More importantly, Lee would use his fame as an
actor to promote racial equality through the support of Hollywood magnates, such as Orson Wells, and
through the theatrical/literary guidance of Langston Hughes. Lee would be become known for his role

major breakthrough for lee was a crucial moment in his acting career, since he was catapulted into

success as a platform to fight for equal rights, for his people and for all people suffering social,

Films are used to discuss several social issues in order to inform audiences or it is just mainly to
entertain viewers with subtle relations with social issues. In 1994, Forrest Gump, an American epic
romantic comedy drama film was released and was directed by Robert Zemeckis based on the 1986
novel written by Winston Groom (Wikipedia). The film s setting was focused in the middle of nearly
every major event of the 1960s and 1970s.
The Subject matter of the Film, Forrest Gump, was mainly to demonstrate what happened in the
United States of America during the 1960s and 1970s. During these years, the events that was shown
in the film were: Lyndon Johnson s proclamation of Great Society which meant that poverty and racial
injustice had no place (History.com). In the 1960s, there was event where four black students sat down
at a whites only lunch counter in Greensboro, North Carolina, in February 1960 and refused to leave.
Their movement spread: Hundreds of demonstrators went back to that lunch counter every day, and
tens of thousands clogged segregated restaurants and shops across the upper South. The protesters
drew the nation s attention to the injustice, brutality and capriciousness that characterized Jim Crow
(History.com). That event led to Lyndon Johnson signing the Civil Rights Act which is the act that

Andrew Walker Interview
As a novice interviewer, one of my most favorite experiences was interviewing the amazing Andrew
Walker. I know that much of the affinity I feel towards him and this chat was his kind and supportive
response to my post, but he has been a favorite Hallmark actor in this household for as long as we
have been Hallmark fans. In spite of Andrew s incredibly busy schedule, recently he set aside a
considerable amount of time to update me on his career, including his work with Hallmark, his
upcoming projects outside of this network, and even a bit about his current and future aspirations.

(insert good introduction here). Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is a good fantasy because it has
mythological creatures, an evil force with great magic powers, and some kind of journey that the main

The Importance of the First World War in Achieving Votes...
The Importance of the First World War in Achieving Votes for Women in 1918
The First World War had a serious effect on womens suffrage. Just as Britain was going to war against
Germany in August 1914, the WSPU declared peace with the Liberals. So in theory the war of the
sexes was swamped by the World War. However, it has been argued that the greatest effect of the war
on women s suffrage was that women were given the vote towards the end of it. In the past, historians
have generally agreed that women were awarded the vote as a symbol of thanks for their war work. As
ex prime minister Asquith says here:

therefore, the WSPU abandoned their violent methods and began demonstrating their loyalty to their
country and their right to the vote. Emelline Pankhurst even threw herself into a vicious campaign in
which the defeat of Germany took priority over women s suffrage. Pankhurst, along with her daughter,
Christabel were great assets in promoting the war effort. At home they called for the men of Britain to
sign up for the army, industrial conscription for women and the abolition of trade unions. juve1211,

divided over the war because whilst some members supported it others did not. However, almost all of
the Suffragists were active in wartime relief work and this overcame some of the divisions within the
NUWSS. In contrast to the WSPU, the NUWSS remained committed to women s suffrage. This meant
it left its organisational structure intact, giving it the chance to restart suffrage activities when the time
was right. This was important, for whenever the franchise question was raised in the House of
Commons, the NUWSS were well written about in the press, and well thought of by the trade union
and the government in support of women s suffrage.

Juvenile Crime Essay
One of the biggest problems which the United States is faced with is juvenile crime. The reason
experts feel juvenile s commit crimes is because of risk factors when they were younger but experts
still have not found the main reason why juvenile s commit crimes. Some risk factors associated with
juvenile crime are poverty, repeated exposure to violence, drugs, easy access to firearms, unstable
family life and family violence, delinquent peer groups, and media violence. Especially the demise of
family life, the effect of the media on the juveniles today, and the increase of firearms available today
have played a big role in the increase of juveniles crimes.

Another risk factor is the effect of the media on the juveniles of today. Before the time a child has
reached seventh grade, the average child has witnessed 8,000 murders and 100,000 acts of violence on
the television. There is no doubt that heavy exposure to televised violence is one of the causes of
aggressive behavior, crime and violence in society. Television violence affects youngsters of all ages,
of both genders, at all economic levels, and all levels of intelligence. Long term childhood exposure to
television is a casual factor behind one half of the homicides committed by juveniles in the United
States.
The increased availability of guns has played a big part in escalating the number of crimes committed
by juveniles.
In Los Angeles juvenile delinquency cases involving weapon violation grew by 86% from 1988 to
1992, which was more then any other type of juvenile offense. According to a University of Michigan
study found that 270,000 guns accompany secondary school students to class daily. This is startling
because it shows how many more juveniles are carrying guns and the juvenile use of guns in
homicides has increased from 65 to 80 percent from 1987 to 1991.
The possession of firearms plays a big cause in the delinquency of children and is playing a bigger
role in the crimes which juveniles commit. Another cause of the increase of juvenile crimes has been

In 1945 the war ended and with Japan being weaker now the French influence returned to Vietnam.
We now see the United States first bit of involvement with Vietnam, where the USA sent money and

France s presence would be enough to stop the spread of Communism.
The Vietminh didn t like having the French influences back again and Guerrilla warfare was used

peasants to disguise themselves and used their local knowledge to make it difficult to detect attacks in

Reasons For Getting A Soundproof Door Installed Essay
Title: Reasons to Get a Soundproof Door Installed
Description It is always very important for people to consider the costs involved in getting a
soundproof door installed within the house.
Noise pollution is something that affects each and every individual living in the modern society. In
this modern world, every individual thinks of relaxing in his or her home without the exterior world
disturbing his quiet and peace. It is also quite fun and enjoyment to get the ability of cranking up the
electric guitar or the cinema system in the house without disturbing the neighbors. Making sure that
the sound insulation in your house is of decent standard can help you in ensuring the fact that your
home serves as that perfect place for relaxing. There are a lot of people who are of the view that they
need to spend a huge amount of money on this special feature. However, these people are unaware of
the fact that there are some inexpensive methods that can also be used. For example, making use of a
soundproof door can always work towards making the home a comfortable and relaxing place.
Reasons for Getting a Soundproof Door
The main reasons why you should think of proper sound insulation in your house are as follows:
Music: People always think of blasting their favorite tunes while relaxing in their houses. But this
would have the irate neighbors hammering on their doors.
Games Consoles: The noise of children and kids cranking up the television while playing different

How Did Spain Conquer South America
The belief that history is written by the victors is certainly the case when it comes to the Spanish
colonialization of the Americas. A majority of the texts describing the Spanish conquest of South
America and Caribbean are from the perspective of the Spanish and are bias toward the Spanish cause.
Two such texts that offer a differing viewpoint are The Florentine Codex and A Short Account of the
Destruction of the Indies by Bartolome de las Casas. The Florentine Codex gives the story of
Moctezuma and the natives of South America as they faced invasion from the conquistadores. The
other account from de las Casas, a Dominican friar, tells of the hardships and cruelty the natives faced
when the Spanish stepped foot and set up societies in the Caribbean. While conquering the Americas,
the Spanish conquistadores showed no empathy for the people they defeated along the way and often
manipulated and killed the natives for their own personal gain. They treated the natives as inferiors
and this all stemmed from their motivation for the conquest. The motivations of the invading
Spaniards blinded and allowed them to view and keep the natives of the Americas as inferior to
themselves and therefore made it easier to justify conquering and controlling them. The main
motivations that drove the Spanish to conquer South America were their pursuit of obtaining gold,
showing the power of Spain, and using Christianity as a means to justify their actions. The most
compelling motivation for the

Eventually, the workers themselves began to organize and publicly demand rights. The last group in
Polish society who was responsible for achieving success in the Solidarity movement was the
religious sector. The religious support that the Solidarity movement possessed cannot be overlooked.
On the protestor s side, it s easy to fight for your rights when you know that God supports you. On the
other hand, it s difficult for the government to fight against a religious institution that has such
powerful influence over the people. Pope John Paul II, originally a Polish citizen named Karol
Wojtyla, played a key role in not only broadcasting the Solidarity movement to the world, but also by
giving the Solidarity movement a pseudo divine right to exist . In 1978, Karol Wojtyla was elected to
be the first non Italian pope since the 1500s . Thus began the attention that he drew not only from the
international Catholic community, but the international community in general. Furthermore, in his
visit to Poland, he affirmed the Polish people s right to organize themselves, and to protest against
their mistreatment. In 1979, the year before Solidarity was officially formed, Pope John Paul II visited

Arthur Gordon Pym Of Nantucket
Edgar Allan Poe, in The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym of Nantucket, employs a multitude of
American Gothic characteristics such as the physically isolated ship as the setting, the mental isolation
and eventual destruction of Pym during entrapment, and the grotesque act of cannibalism. In The
Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym of Nantucket, Poe magnifies Pym s suffering by trapping him in the
belly of the brig and allowing him to suffer until he is on the brink of insanity. The Narrative of Arthur

When Pym is eventually released from his hold to the deck above, he, Augustus, and Dirk Peters (a

fight, Pym s gang kills all the other crew except for Richard Parker, who he knocked down with a
blow from the pump handle at the commencement of the attack (Poe 85). At this point, only four
members of the original crew remain and a strong gale is fastly approaching them. On top of the
strong gale and terrible waters, the survivors of the violence plummed the well, and found no less than
seven feet water (Poe 86). During this storm, instead telling about the wind and suffering, he turns
instead to a description of nautical maneuvers in a storm like how to stowaway proper storage
(Montwieler 2). The physical isolation that happens after the second rebellion, which includes weeks
of barely any food or water, leaves the men very hallucinogenic, and this rant that Pym goes on about
how to properly stowaway exemplifies how disturbed the men become because of the physical
isolation. However, this was not the only reason that Poe included this tangent on stowage. Yes, it was
mentioned to illustrate how delusional Pym was becoming due the remoteness, but also because the
public at that time wanted real life sailing. Poe includes this and other tangent on how to set sails
properly in a storm because the people of that time wanted him to complete the narrative himself in its
original non fictional form. The reading public, he writes, was not avid for fiction, but for the facts.
(Grady 1). Poe uses the physical isolation of the remaining crew as a stage for him to demonstrate how
weary the men become without barely any food for weeks and also to go on tangents to give what the

Alaska s State Turtle Is The Largest Of Four Species Of...
Have you ever heard of a Western painted Turtle? Well if you are from Colorado you should know
what they are! Western painted turtles are Colorado s state turtle. How did that come about? Well in
2007 Jay Baichis 4th grade class came together because they wanted these colorful turtles to be our
state turtles. Why? Because these beautiful turtles are found by many lakes, ponds, and water bays
around Colorado. They have bright beautiful colors just like Colorado. The Western Painted Turtle
became our state turtle a year later after the 4th graders went through all the legal ways and the
process to make it happen. The 4th graders had gone to governor Ritter on March 18, 2008 and told
him why the turtles should be our state turtle, and Ritter had signed the HB 08 1017. Now let s get into
more detail about our state reptile.
The Western Painted Turtle is the largest of four species of turtles. They can grow up to about 8 inches
and the males are generally smaller than the females. Their shells are nice and smooth and are about
250mm long. They are called painted turtles because their lower shell is a bright red with yellow and
olive green colored designs spread through their shells. They have yellow lines on each side of their
neck that are about the same size that go all the way to their head. They are cold blooded animals so
they cannot control their body temperature. They have to go under the mud or sand to keep themselves
warm. Western Painted Turtles are aquatic reptiles so

Analysis Of The Book The Palace
For several weeks, Proserpina had stayed with King Pluto in his palace. She spent most of her days
ogling his tremendous rose gardens. She loved picking the roses and finding the small white pearl that
lay within the rare ones. Red roses were her favourite, their lush, bright petals never drooping or
falling, and in some circumstances, they smelled sweeter than any of the other roses. Proserpina s
favourite rose of all, however, was one made entirely of rubies and emeralds. The red rubies made up
the petals and the emeralds became the stem and a leaf. It was kept inside of a large glass case, where
only its beauty was allowed. Every morning after Pluto brought Proserpina to his castle, he would hear
her wake up in the early hours of the day, right when the sun began to rise, and watch her pick flowers
through his large window overlooking his land. He was lucky that she did not know who he was, the
God of the Underworld, she only thought he was the king of diamonds and stones. Pluto had a plan,
once he got her to eat something, she would be trapped in his kingdom forever, his underworld. For
now, however, he had to just watch as she deteriorated from hunger. It wasn t that bad to be brutally
honest, he s seen much worse. Since staying there, Proserpina had vowed not to eat anything that she
found, or anything that was given to her. She was afraid that if she ate anything, it would deprive her
of all of her bad memories and make her forget all of her cares. Really,

Systems Analysis Project Essay
Systems Analysis Project Fundamentals of Business Systems Development The company I work for
recently met with our primary client in hopes of identifying any potential shortfalls and to gain insight
on our customer service ability. During this meeting one concern seemed to dominate the study; the
client felt they were not getting adequate personal attention when they called. They also indicated it
felt like voice mail hell when routed through our phone system. It was apparent the issue of phone
etiquette needed to be addressed within our organization. One theory states during the systems
analysis stage the design of any new system must be predicated upon an understanding of the old
system. (Modell, 2004). In our case we ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After weighing the choices, our recommendation was to implement a call center. This was the option
with the least amount of variables and proved compatible with our current system. In progressive
companies, management is always interested in suggestions for improving productivity . (McGraw
Hill) This was not the case in this situation as the idea was flat out rejected by the firm s Managing
Partner despite suggestions from a team he assembled. The buddy system was his decision, partly
because he wanted more accountability from the staff, but mostly because he had seen it work
effectively in another workplace. This would prove to be a costly mistake. With this newly adopted
concept, we were now in the market for a new phone system. The current phone system would not
support the additional lines or the architecture of linking phones to enable partner monitoring. We
looked at a number of different models from a number of different manufacturers including digital, IP
and a hybrid of the two. We also visited a number of companies referenced by the vendor to actually
see the system in operation. What we really focused on was a solid system that was easily expandable,
carrying all the features we were accustomed to and the capability of linking multiple lines on a single
phone. We found one particular model that broke the mold. This system

The Innumerable Meanings of Moby Dick Essay
The Innumerable Meanings of Moby Dick
Call me Ishmael. The first line of this story begins with an assertion of self identity. Before the second
page is reached, it becomes quite clear to me that within this assertion of self identity lay an enticing
universality. Ishmael represents every man somehow and no man entirely. He is an individual in his
own right, while personifying a basic human desire for something more, something extraordinary. As
his name implies, he is an outcast from a great family (p.18). Although we all share Ishmael s yearning
for adventure (however deeply hidden it may be), to throw aside our civilization (despite its
discontents ) could mean societal suicide. So, we look through his eyes, we cling to his ... Show more

When our world becomes too restrictive and society s dictates threaten to overwhelm him, rather than
lashing out at his fellow landlocked prisoners he quietly takes the ship (p. 18). And for those too
apprehensive to leave the safety and steadiness of land, Ishmael recounts his adventure so that others
can vicariously experience his freedom.
Here we have come across one of the many wonders of story telling: Stories allow us to see things we
might not have the audacity to see ourselves and to become things well beyond our own perceived
potential. And so we turn to stories to fill our voids, to quench the fires of our hopes and dreams, to
calm our restless spirits. We might choose security rather than spontaneity and comfort rather than
jeopardy, but we are able to do so and remain sane only with promise of participation in something
outside of ourselves.
Through our relationships to the boundless expanse inherent in the telling of stories, the great flood
gates of the wonder world swing open (p. 20). The story of Moby Dick is particularly compelling, as it
presents us with the ungraspable phantom of life and then subsequently offers us the key to it all (p.
20). Through a first person narrative dictating a story intrinsically linked to the universality of human
restlessness, Melville offers each of us a window of reprieve. We may choose to take it as an
important life lesson and throw caution and practicality to the wind in

Comparison Of John Wilkes Booth And Lee Harvey Oswald
Although there have been numerous assassination plots and attempts, there have only been four
successful presidential assassinations in the history of the U.S. Today I ll be comparing and
contrasting two different president killers: John Wilkes Booth and Lee Harvey Oswald. They lived
almost a century apart, but still have many similarities. Lee and John basically did the same crime,
assassinating a U.S President, however, they have numerous differences.
Lee Harvey Oswald was born on the 18th of October in 1939. In 1956 Lee had entered the United
States Marines. Within 2 months he scored 212 on a marksman s test. He departed from the military in
1959. Roughly 8 days later he departed the U.S and headed to Russia. He had spent some time all over
the world until his final destination in Dallas, Texas. In November 1963, Lee Harvey Oswald set up

John was 17 he performed in the play Richard III, Written by William Shakespeare. Many people
loved the plays he performed in, so he got to tour around the country with the Shakespearean Acting
Company. Abraham Lincoln watched John Booth perform The Marble Heart at Ford s Theater. Booth
had respiratory issues so he left the acting company. In the 1850 s, he was a confederate secret agent,
and a member of the Know Nothing Party . In March 1865 John Wilkes Booth attempted to kidnap
Abraham Lincoln, but failed. April 14th, is when John walked into Ford s Theater while Abe was
watching Our American Cousin and shot him in the back of the head with a .44 caliber hand cannon.
He hopped off the balcony seats and landed on the stage. He yelled The south is avenged then once he
hopped off the stage he broke his leg. He made it to his get away horse and took off. After 12 days
hiding out, he finally got shot in the neck and was paralyzed for 3 hours before he passed

Art Analysis Of Judith Beheading Holofernes By Caravaggio
This piece of artwork is called Judith Beheading Holofernes , which was created by Caravaggio in the
late 16th century in Rome. It was a type of oil painting on canvas, also, a piece of artwork in the
period of Baroque. Briefly, Hood stated that in this artwork, it told the story in Biblical story of Judith,
dressed as a well born Renaissance young lady, standing at a safe distance, and who was saved her
people by beheading and seducing the Assyrian general Holofernes, which was a theme very common
in the 16th century. As the biblical text reported, Holofernes was so enchanted with her that he drank
far more wine than he had drunk on any other day in his life (Judith 12:20). Judith got Holofernes
drunk, then took his sword and killed him. (p.24) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this artwork, the moment of the beheading itself, those things painted are display in a flat stage,
emphatically lit from the margin, segregated against the dark, shadowy background. Judith and Abra,

his back. During the creation, Caravaggio adjusted the position of Holofernes head as he proceeded,
isolating it slightly from the middle and moving it marginally to one side, which was uncovered by X
rays (Bissell, 2005). His mastery of feeling and emotion was demonstrated by the faces of those
characters, Judith was specifically appearing in her face a mix of repulsion and determination.
Artemisia Gentileschi and other artists were profoundly influenced by this work, and even surpassed
Caravaggio s physical authenticity, but it has been contended that none matched his catch of Judith s

Atherosclerosis Case Study Essay
In the case of an individual needing to abide by a heart healthy nutrition plan, they would be suffering
from some form of heart disease. Two of the most common types of heart disease are Ischemic heart
disease and Inflammatory heart disease. In the case of Ischemic heart disease, this is a heart ailment
caused by the narrowing of the coronary arteries thus resulting in a decreased blood supply to the
heart. Inflammatory heart disease on the other hand is a rather broad term and can be used to
categorize several heart conditions including Atherosclerosis. An individual who suffers from
Atherosclerosis can expect the the walls of their arteries to become thick and stiff because of the
buildup of fatty deposits called plaques. When this occurs, the flow of blood is restricted.
Atherosclerosis can happen throughout the body, for example, in the arteries of the heart it is known as
Coronary artery disease and in the legs it is referred to as Peripheral arterial disease. It is essential that
those suffering from heart disease follow a specific diet however, if they refuse to be cautious, they are
highly susceptible to developing several life threatening complications. One example includes heart
failure, which occurs when the heart cannot adequately pump blood throughout the body. This can
cause shortness of breath, dizziness, confusion, and the buildup of fluid in the body, causing ... Show

Right Choices In Michael Lehmann s Heathers
Asking a child which snack he prefers, a vegetable or something better suited for dessert, it is more
than likely he will choose the tooth rotting goodness of his favorite treat, even if it is against his
parents demands. It is quite extraordinary how a child, although in a situation less life changing than
an adult may be in, can also make the choice to do something ruthless because it is too irresistible to
pass up. Due to this atavistic tendency, the message of making the right choices is ubiquitous in
media. In Michael Lehmann s drama Heathers, Veronica Sawyer finds difficulty in assuaging her
situation because of her oscillation between choosing to carry out all opportunities to take revenge or
to stick to ethics, leading into the idea ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While Veronica was neither a saint nor a fiend, J.D. was her foil, displaying the wickedness he
attained from his poor upbringing. His complete disgust with the way society treated itself led him to
plan to blow up his high school. Noticing that Veronica was trying to turn her life around, he tried one
last time for her to sympathize with him: You want to wipe the slate clean as much as I do. Okay, so
maybe I am killing everyone in the school because no one loves me (Heathers). While some may
consider J.D. to be symbolic of malevolence, the problem with being on the extreme side of the
figurative evilness scale is that evil... only emerges when we are broken off into disconnected
fragments (Taylor). This shows that even the outliers remain neutral, because the pain people
experience or lack thereof skews their viewpoints on what they want and what extremes they will go
to to attain

Argumentative Essay On Vietnam Veterans
Vietnam Veterans
In the history of the United States of America, veterans returning from a war are often celebrated as
heroes and welcomed home. That was not the case for the soldiers that returned home from the
Vietnam war. More Vietnam veterans were taken from suicide than on the battlefield. Fifty eight
thousand two hundred and twenty soldiers died in combat, where over a hundred thousand Vietnam
veterans committed suicide upon their return to the United States. This is partially due to the
mistreatment and discrimination they faced when they returned home. Vietnam veterans did not
deserve the way they were treated after the war. Most of the soldiers that served in the Vietnam war
were drafted, meaning that had no choice but to go and fight. When many Vietnam veterans returned
home to the United States, they were often treated as outsiders, criminals, called horrendous names,
treated with great disrespect, and discriminated against.
If you have ever heard of the Vietnam War, you most likely have heard of how horrible the American
soldiers were treated. When they came home to the United States, the country was torn over the
political and humanitarian aspects of America s involvement in the war. The American people were
asking questions as: Why was the war being fought? Was it worth the financial burden it was placing
on the United States? Did the U.S. really need to be involved in a conflict between a country in a civil
war? The returning Vietnam veteran soldiers became

  • 2. Victoria Chemicals Case Study Essay Victoria Chemicals: Case study Introduction Victoria Chemicals is a major competitor in the worldwide chemical industry. They are a leading producer of polypropylene, which is a polymer used in products such as medical products and automobile components. Victoria Chemicals started up in 1967 when they built two plants, one in Merseyside, England and one in Rotterdam, Holland. Both plants were identical to each other and produced an equal amount of goods. In 2008 these two plants have an old fashioned production process of polypropylene and the production costs are some of the highest in the industry. The plants need to be renovated and rationalized. When comparing the two different investment plans and the cash flows included, you can see that there are differences between the Merseyside and Rotterdam projects. In Merseyside tax has been included in the calculations but it is not included as a post, this could easily be added on a separate post, as done for Rotterdam. In Merseyside a preliminary engineering cost of GBP0,5 million, which had been spent over the preceding 9 months, has been included. This is a sunk cost, i.e. an unrecoverable cost for which the firm is already liable . This is a cost already paid for and is not incremental with respect to the current decision and should not be included in the investment plan. Overhead expenses are associated with activities that are not directly attributed to a single business activity but instead affect many different areas of the corporation. These costs are not incremental to the project and should not be included. But additional overhead expenses caused by the decision to take on the project must be included. Victoria Chemicals has a corporate policy manual and according to the manual new projects should be able to sustain a reasonable proportion of corporate overhead expenses. Thus, all new capital projects should reflect an annual pre tax charge amounting to 3.5 % of the initial asset investment for the project. This cost has been included for Merseyside but not for Rotterdam. Though, according to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The alternative to using the CPOE is a paper system, this is not ideal because a major source of death in hospitals are preventable, and a 69% of these preventable deaths involve to some capacity patient management. Furthermore, by computerizing patient prescriptions, the hospital reduces the likelihood of errors due to confusion over similar sounding drugs, reduces the need for faxes and other handoffs, and standardizes patient records across the Emory system. Furthermore, this system gives nurses, physician assistants, and pharmacists more time to focus on other tasks, such as ensuring proper medicine is distributed, and less time on routine tasks involving the order system, although this does come at the expense of the doctor spending ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Implementing CPOE at Emory University Hospital Midtown would be harder due to the fact that it is an open staff, community hospital. This meant that community physicians, unaffiliated with Emory, and lacking CPOE training, could practice medicine at the hospital. This meant that extra time and money would have to be spend ensuring that every doctor who practices medicine at the Midtown location is given the necessarily training. Furthermore, since a major reason for reluctant acceptance of the CPOE system at the other Emory locations was the constant presence of CPOE experts, this could pose a problem at Emory Midtown where the doctors are constantly changing, and it could be costly and inefficient to keep CPOE experts long enough for the vast majority of community physicians to gain comfort with the system. A second problem is the lack of resistant s as compared to the other Emory hospitals. Since residents were often the ones using the CPOE systems on doctors behalves, at Emory Midtown there would be an inherent lack of tech savvy residents, further perpetuating the issue of training community physicians. An advantage of the Midtown location would be that since the doctors are constantly rotating, there is not as much organization inertia and resistance to change in implementing a change in IT system, although this strength is probably offset by the aforementioned ... Public Relations As A Regular Tradition Due to the early accounts of public relations utilising manipulative practices as a regular tradition, these tactics have thus overshadowed and continued to be the predominant view of public relations within modern contexts. This essay will argue that public relations has evolved considerably beyond the age of press agentry, yet will still acknowledge the existence of some present day uses of these schemes. Firstly, this essay will explore the history of public relations to establish and enforce the need for change within the profession. Secondly, this essay will discuss the various new practices and procedures of public relations implied into modern society and how this aligns with the continuing ethical development of this profession. Lastly, the essay will analyse the use of methods associated with the press agentry period in recent years. Public relations is historically categorised in three stages known as manipulation, information and mutual benefit, with each consisting of a different core set of values, methods and desired outcomes. The manipulation period was known for its continuous abuse of press agentry and publicity stunts to further its manipulative attempt to gain the attention of the public through the media . How Is Situational Irony Used In The Scarlet Letter Novelist, Ernest Hemingway, in his novel, The Scarlet Letter, writes about the Puritan life and how some characters with through a rough path of disobeying the Puritan culture. He has many characters that represent many different things in his novel. Hemingway uses an abundance of rhetorical strategies. One of the ones that he uses is irony. He uses different types of irony such as verbal, situational and dramatic to shows the imperfect world that the Puritans really had. Verbal irony is when the speakers says one thing but means another, or saying something without realizing its significance. An example of verbal irony would be when Hester stands on the scaffold. • 8. Rent Control Of The United States Philippe Bouchereau Prof. Kaycea Campbell Economics 2 11 May 2016 Rent Control in the United States Rent control is a law that places a price ceiling on the amount of rent a landlord can charge a tenant. People from middle and lower income brackets tend to benefit from rent control, while people from the upper income brackets do not. The whole purpose as to why rent control exists is so that tenants from the lower income groups are not exploited by greedy landlords through government intervention. Landlords who own property in expensive cities like San Francisco are not able to charge market rates of rent as that would displace many poor people. While rent control was created with good intentions by the government, rent control is overall more harmful to the economy than good. Rent control goes back to the days of World War I. During the years following the war, the United States was experiencing a large shortage of housing. John W. Willis, author of the article Short History of Rent Control Laws wrote, Housing shortages, however, are not new, and it should not be surprising therefore to find that modern attempts to intervene in the relationship between landlord and tenant find precedents going back hundreds of years (Willis 54). The war was a reason because the wives of the soldiers acquired jobs in manufacturing plants, factories, and other places. The Importance of the First World War in Achieving Votes for Women in 1918 The First World War had a serious effect on womens suffrage. Just as Britain was going to war against Germany in August 1914, the WSPU declared peace with the Liberals. So in theory the war of the sexes was swamped by the World War. However, it has been argued that the greatest effect of the war on women s suffrage was that women were given the vote towards the end of it. Television violence affects youngsters of all ages, of both genders, at all economic levels, and all levels of intelligence. Long term childhood exposure to television is a casual factor behind one half of the homicides committed by juveniles in the United States. The increased availability of guns has played a big part in escalating the number of crimes committed by juveniles. According to a University of Michigan study found that 270,000 guns accompany secondary school students to class daily. This is startling because it shows how many more juveniles are carrying guns and the juvenile use of guns in homicides has increased from 65 to 80 percent from 1987 to 1991. • 34. How Did Spain Conquer South America The belief that history is written by the victors is certainly the case when it comes to the Spanish colonialization of the Americas. A majority of the texts describing the Spanish conquest of South America and Caribbean are from the perspective of the Spanish and are bias toward the Spanish cause. Two such texts that offer a differing viewpoint are The Florentine Codex and A Short Account of the Destruction of the Indies by Bartolome de las Casas. The Florentine Codex gives the story of Moctezuma and the natives of South America as they faced invasion from the conquistadores. The other account from de las Casas, a Dominican friar, tells of the hardships and cruelty the natives faced when the Spanish stepped foot and set up societies in the Caribbean. While conquering the Americas, the Spanish conquistadores showed no empathy for the people they defeated along the way and often manipulated and killed the natives for their own personal gain. They treated the natives as inferiors and this all stemmed from their motivation for the conquest. The motivations of the invading Spaniards blinded and allowed them to view and keep the natives of the Americas as inferior to themselves and therefore made it easier to justify conquering and controlling them. The main motivations that drove the Spanish to conquer South America were their pursuit of obtaining gold, showing the power of Spain, and using Christianity as a means to justify their actions. On the other hand, it s difficult for the government to fight against a religious institution that has such powerful influence over the people. At this point, only four members of the original crew remain and a strong gale is fastly approaching them. On top of the strong gale and terrible waters, the survivors of the violence plummed the well, and found no less than seven feet water (Poe 86). During this storm, instead telling about the wind and suffering, he turns instead to a description of nautical maneuvers in a storm like how to stowaway proper storage (Montwieler 2). The physical isolation that happens after the second rebellion, which includes weeks of barely any food or water, leaves the men very hallucinogenic, and this rant that Pym goes on about how to properly stowaway exemplifies how disturbed the men become because of the physical isolation. However, this was not the only reason that Poe included this tangent on stowage. Yes, it was mentioned to illustrate how delusional Pym was becoming due the remoteness, but also because the public at that time wanted real life sailing. Poe includes this and other tangent on how to set sails properly in a storm because the people of that time wanted him to complete the narrative himself in its original non fictional form. The reading public, he writes, was not avid for fiction, but for the facts. (Grady 1). Because these beautiful turtles are found by many lakes, ponds, and water bays around Colorado. They have bright beautiful colors just like Colorado. The Western Painted Turtle became our state turtle a year later after the 4th graders went through all the legal ways and the process to make it happen. • 40. Analysis Of The Book The Palace For several weeks, Proserpina had stayed with King Pluto in his palace. She spent most of her days ogling his tremendous rose gardens. She loved picking the roses and finding the small white pearl that lay within the rare ones. Red roses were her favourite, their lush, bright petals never drooping or falling, and in some circumstances, they smelled sweeter than any of the other roses. Proserpina s favourite rose of all, however, was one made entirely of rubies and emeralds. The red rubies made up the petals and the emeralds became the stem and a leaf. It was kept inside of a large glass case, where only its beauty was allowed. Every morning after Pluto brought Proserpina to his castle, he would hear her wake up in the early hours of the day, right when the sun began to rise, and watch her pick flowers through his large window overlooking his land. He was lucky that she did not know who he was, the God of the Underworld, she only thought he was the king of diamonds and stones. Pluto had a plan, once he got her to eat something, she would be trapped in his kingdom forever, his underworld. For now, however, he had to just watch as she deteriorated from hunger. It wasn t that bad to be brutally honest, he s seen much worse. Since staying there, Proserpina had vowed not to eat anything that she found, or anything that was given to her. She was afraid that if she ate anything, it would deprive her of all of her bad memories and make her forget all of her cares. Really, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Systems Analysis Project Essay Systems Analysis Project Fundamentals of Business Systems Development The company I work for recently met with our primary client in hopes of identifying any potential shortfalls and to gain insight on our customer service ability. During this meeting one concern seemed to dominate the study; the client felt they were not getting adequate personal attention when they called. They also indicated it felt like voice mail hell when routed through our phone system. It was apparent the issue of phone etiquette needed to be addressed within our organization. One theory states during the systems analysis stage the design of any new system must be predicated upon an understanding of the old system. (Modell, 2004). In our case we ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After weighing the choices, our recommendation was to implement a call center. This was the option with the least amount of variables and proved compatible with our current system. In progressive companies, management is always interested in suggestions for improving productivity . (McGraw Hill) This was not the case in this situation as the idea was flat out rejected by the firm s Managing Partner despite suggestions from a team he assembled. The buddy system was his decision, partly because he wanted more accountability from the staff, but mostly because he had seen it work effectively in another workplace. This would prove to be a costly mistake. With this newly adopted concept, we were now in the market for a new phone system. The current phone system would not support the additional lines or the architecture of linking phones to enable partner monitoring. We looked at a number of different models from a number of different manufacturers including digital, IP and a hybrid of the two. We also visited a number of companies referenced by the vendor to actually see the system in operation. What we really focused on was a solid system that was easily expandable, carrying all the features we were accustomed to and the capability of linking multiple lines on a single phone. We found one particular model that broke the mold. This system ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. The Innumerable Meanings of Moby Dick Essay The Innumerable Meanings of Moby Dick Call me Ishmael. The first line of this story begins with an assertion of self identity. Before the second page is reached, it becomes quite clear to me that within this assertion of self identity lay an enticing universality. Ishmael represents every man somehow and no man entirely. He is an individual in his own right, while personifying a basic human desire for something more, something extraordinary. As his name implies, he is an outcast from a great family (p.18). Although we all share Ishmael s yearning for adventure (however deeply hidden it may be), to throw aside our civilization (despite its discontents ) could mean societal suicide. So, we look through his eyes, we cling to his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When our world becomes too restrictive and society s dictates threaten to overwhelm him, rather than lashing out at his fellow landlocked prisoners he quietly takes the ship (p. 18). And for those too apprehensive to leave the safety and steadiness of land, Ishmael recounts his adventure so that others can vicariously experience his freedom. Here we have come across one of the many wonders of story telling: Stories allow us to see things we might not have the audacity to see ourselves and to become things well beyond our own perceived potential. And so we turn to stories to fill our voids, to quench the fires of our hopes and dreams, to calm our restless spirits. We might choose security rather than spontaneity and comfort rather than jeopardy, but we are able to do so and remain sane only with promise of participation in something outside of ourselves. Through our relationships to the boundless expanse inherent in the telling of stories, the great flood gates of the wonder world swing open (p. 20). The story of Moby Dick is particularly compelling, as it presents us with the ungraspable phantom of life and then subsequently offers us the key to it all (p. 20). Through a first person narrative dictating a story intrinsically linked to the universality of human restlessness, Melville offers each of us a window of reprieve. We may choose to take it as an important life lesson and throw caution and practicality to the wind in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Comparison Of John Wilkes Booth And Lee Harvey Oswald Although there have been numerous assassination plots and attempts, there have only been four successful presidential assassinations in the history of the U.S. Today I ll be comparing and contrasting two different president killers: John Wilkes Booth and Lee Harvey Oswald. They lived almost a century apart, but still have many similarities. Lee and John basically did the same crime, assassinating a U.S President, however, they have numerous differences. He departed from the military in 1959. Roughly 8 days later he departed the U.S and headed to Russia. He had spent some time all over the world until his final destination in Dallas, Texas. • 45. Art Analysis Of Judith Beheading Holofernes By Caravaggio This piece of artwork is called Judith Beheading Holofernes , which was created by Caravaggio in the late 16th century in Rome. It was a type of oil painting on canvas, also, a piece of artwork in the period of Baroque. Briefly, Hood stated that in this artwork, it told the story in Biblical story of Judith, dressed as a well born Renaissance young lady, standing at a safe distance, and who was saved her people by beheading and seducing the Assyrian general Holofernes, which was a theme very common in the 16th century. As the biblical text reported, Holofernes was so enchanted with her that he drank far more wine than he had drunk on any other day in his life (Judith 12:20). Judith got Holofernes drunk, then took his sword and killed him. (p.24) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During the creation, Caravaggio adjusted the position of Holofernes head as he proceeded, isolating it slightly from the middle and moving it marginally to one side, which was uncovered by X rays (Bissell, 2005). His mastery of feeling and emotion was demonstrated by the faces of those characters, Judith was specifically appearing in her face a mix of repulsion and determination. • 46. Atherosclerosis Case Study Essay In the case of an individual needing to abide by a heart healthy nutrition plan, they would be suffering from some form of heart disease. Two of the most common types of heart disease are Ischemic heart disease and Inflammatory heart disease. In the case of Ischemic heart disease, this is a heart ailment caused by the narrowing of the coronary arteries thus resulting in a decreased blood supply to the heart. Inflammatory heart disease on the other hand is a rather broad term and can be used to categorize several heart conditions including Atherosclerosis. An individual who suffers from Atherosclerosis can expect the the walls of their arteries to become thick and stiff because of the buildup of fatty deposits called plaques. When this occurs, the flow of blood is restricted. Atherosclerosis can happen throughout the body, for example, in the arteries of the heart it is known as Coronary artery disease and in the legs it is referred to as Peripheral arterial disease. It is essential that those suffering from heart disease follow a specific diet however, if they refuse to be cautious, they are highly susceptible to developing several life threatening complications. One example includes heart failure, which occurs when the heart cannot adequately pump blood throughout the body. This can cause shortness of breath, dizziness, confusion, and the buildup of fluid in the body, causing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 47. Right Choices In Michael Lehmann s Heathers Asking a child which snack he prefers, a vegetable or something better suited for dessert, it is more than likely he will choose the tooth rotting goodness of his favorite treat, even if it is against his parents demands. It is quite extraordinary how a child, although in a situation less life changing than an adult may be in, can also make the choice to do something ruthless because it is too irresistible to pass up. Due to this atavistic tendency, the message of making the right choices is ubiquitous in media. In Michael Lehmann s drama Heathers, Veronica Sawyer finds difficulty in assuaging her situation because of her oscillation between choosing to carry out all opportunities to take revenge or to stick to ethics, leading into the idea ... Okay, so maybe I am killing everyone in the school because no one loves me (Heathers). While some may consider J.D. to be symbolic of malevolence, the problem with being on the extreme side of the figurative evilness scale is that evil... only emerges when we are broken off into disconnected fragments (Taylor). • 48. Argumentative Essay On Vietnam Veterans Vietnam Veterans In the history of the United States of America, veterans returning from a war are often celebrated as heroes and welcomed home. That was not the case for the soldiers that returned home from the Vietnam war. More Vietnam veterans were taken from suicide than on the battlefield. Fifty eight thousand two hundred and twenty soldiers died in combat, where over a hundred thousand Vietnam veterans committed suicide upon their return to the United States. This is partially due to the mistreatment and discrimination they faced when they returned home. Vietnam veterans did not deserve the way they were treated after the war. Most of the soldiers that served in the Vietnam war were drafted, meaning that had no choice but to go and fight. When many Vietnam veterans returned home to the United States, they were often treated as outsiders, criminals, called horrendous names, treated with great disrespect, and discriminated against. If you have ever heard of the Vietnam War, you most likely have heard of how horrible the American soldiers were treated. When they came home to the United States, the country was torn over the political and humanitarian aspects of America s involvement in the war. The American people were asking questions as: Why was the war being fought? Was it worth the financial burden it was placing on the United States? Did the U.S. really need to be involved in a conflict between a country in a civil war? The returning Vietnam veteran soldiers became ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
