Relationship Between Burnout And Work Engagement
Relationship between Burnout and Work Engagement
A significant negative relationship with Emotional Exhaustion was found for engagement (r= 0.35, p
0.01) based on the above results. From the results, academics who reported a lesser degree of
engagement in their work are the ones who are more emotionally exhausted. Here, burnout shows a
moderate inverse relationship with engagement, in that the higher degree of burnout reported the
lesser the engagement. This result supported the first hypothesis presented in the study, i.e. burnout is
negatively correlated with work engagement.
Relationship between Burnout and Pressure to Publish
In Table 6 above, results show Pressure to Publish to have a significant and positive relationship with
that of Emotional Exhaustion (r = 0.36, p 0.01) indicating that academics who reported higher feelings
of being under pressure to publish displayed higher levels of Emotional Exhaustion than those who
reported lower feelings of being under pressure. Or in other words, as an academic s perceived
Pressure to Publish increased, so did their levels of Emotional Exhaustion. According to this result,
academics levels of burnout is indeed affected by their perceived feelings of pressure to publish
supporting the second hypothesis of the study.
Relationship between Burnout and Resilience
In regards to Emotional Exhaustion and Resilience, a significant negative relationship was found (r =
0.26, p 0.01) between the two variables.

Buffalo Bill Sympathy
A psychopath known as Buffalo Bill is kidnapping and murdering young women across the Midwest
United States. Believing it takes one to know one, the F.B.I. sends agent in training, Clarice Starling to
interview the demented psychiatric ward prisoner who may provide psychological insight and clues to
the Buffalo Bill s actions. The prisoner is psychiatrist, Dr. Hannibal Lector, a brilliant yet murderous
cannibal who will only help Starling if she gives him details about her own life even though she was
advised by her superiors not to. The pressure for information sets on when Buffalo Bill abducts a U.S.
Senator s daughter. Starling then is authorized to offer Lector a fake deal promising him a prison

The director used these camera techniques in order to include the audience in the movie. There is
nothing fancy or complicated about his camerawork. The director needed to figure out a way to
involve his audience in the plot so they would not be merely witnesses to the mind games and actually
feel the suspense. The director positioned the camera so that the actors are speaking directly to the
audience in close up and extreme close up shots, suggesting the characters in the film recognize the
audience s presence or their own participation in the movie. This camera work instills fear and anguish
in its audience because it makes it seem as the actors are peering down or looking straight into the
audience s eyes. The camera work did an amazing job in including the audience in the

Lenin s Rule and Effect on USSR Essay
Lenin s Rule and Effect on USSR
It has been said, by Winston Churchill no less, that The Russian people s worst misfortune was his
birth; their next was his death. There is much truth in this statement, because Churchill was able to see
that as Lenin matured, so did his policies, and these lead to improving conditions for the Russian
people. As Lenin matured as a leader, so did his policies; as Lenin died his policies died with him.
When Lenin first found himself with power over the Soviets, he was in a Civil war, and from such a
situation arose War Communism. Over time however, Lenin was able to see the flaws of this policy
and had the maturity to admit that he may have made a mistake. From ... Show more content on

In this respect, Lenin was showing signs of immaturity and inexperience even before he had gained
power, although he was still a very skilled revolutionary.
Despite this neglect of the peasant base, Lenin was able to take control of Russia relatively easily. It
was not long however, until divisions amongst the Russian people became apparently, and Russia
slipped into civil war. The civil war and the policies that were spawned to combat it had severe
political, social and economic impacts on Russia. The main overriding policy of War Communism led
to a severe loss of political freedom. Lenin introduced into the world the whole concept of a one party
state(T.E.E. Revision Centre. The Russian Revolution), where there were no elections held for
political parties, but for representatives within the party instead. Protests and uprisings were also
eliminated by War Communism. Protestors could be shot on site and nothing was thought of it
(Wikipedia War Communism [www]). Very soon, Russia became a dictatorship of a sort, where Lenin
had ultimate power over the presiding political party, the Communist Party, and controlled all of the
major activities of Russia. This came as a severe blow to the people, as the promise of land made to

Fructose Intolerance And The Aldolase B Gene And Fructose
Fructose Intolerance is caused by mutations in the aldolase B gene and Fructose 1, 6 biphosphate
aldolase. Both are important because it is responsible for gluconeogenesis and fructose metabolism.
Gluconeogenesis is the metabolic pathway that results in the production of glucose from non
carbohydrate carbon substrates or the opposite of Glycolysis (Figure 1). In simple terms, a mutation
on Fructose 1, 6 biphosphate would both hinder the production of pyruvate and the production of
glucose. Fructose Intolerance is also referred to as Fructose 1 Phosphate Aldolase Deficiency. The
modified enzyme varies in its original function and structure that derived from a restricted genetic
mutation (Cox, O Donnell, Camilleri, and Burghes).
Aldolase B is classified as a Lyase, or an enzyme that catalyzes the breaking of various bonds means
other than hydrolysis and oxidation. Lyase often forms a double bond or a new ring structure. Fructose
Intolerance is caused by mutations in the aldolase B gene which is expressed in the liver (Malay,
Allen, and Tolan). Its molecular compound is shown in Figure 2 and has two active site residues,
Lysine and Glutamate, as well as several charged residues. The functional assignment is complex
because of the proximity of the many charged amino acids found at the active site. Figure 3 shows
where the substitution of Proline for Alanine occur at position 149 (Malay, Allen, and Tolan). The
A149P substitution is known as AP aldolase (Malay, Procious, and

Strengths And Weaknesses Of The NHS
The NHS was first launched in 1948. It was created to provide good healthcare services and it was
available to everyone. It didn t matter if you were rich or poor, that was the principle (NHS choices,
2015). With the NHS confronting its greatest difficulties throughout the following decade, there are
numerous reasons that the NHS is coming to emergency point. Each test should be tended to and a
successful method for adapting and giving better treatment to patients should be involved.
The organisation was established to provide treatment to individuals with illnesses. Many illnesses
that would have killed individuals 65 years prior, have been cured, which is a huge improvement. This
implies that individuals are living longer, it additionally ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

hospital trust are struggling financially, which is a rise from the previous few years (Meikle J, 2015).
As David Cameron said at the beginning of June 2010, Spending cuts will change everyone s way of
life (Black P, 2015).
The department of health responded by suggesting that it s an ongoing battle for the NHS to provide
an ever efficient service. A big claim to help fight these financial issues, was to restrict the amount of
agency staff and management consultants, who earn a considerably larger wage compared to that of
your regular NHS staff member (Meikle J, 2015).
Since 2010 there has been a rapid increase of people going in to A E departments in England. The
figure is believe to be around 32% over the past decade. People over the age of 65 only account for
17% of the total population, but take the vast majority of bed spaces within an NHS hospital (Gov.uk,

The Portrait Of Madame De Pompadour
I remember the precise moment when I first laid eyes on the Portrait of Madame de Pompadour. At
about ten years of age, my parents bought a book titled: Women who read are dangerous. This book
depicted several paintings, sculptures and photographs of women reading; among which was the
Portrait of Madame de Pompadour. The second I witnessed the detail and extravagance of the
painting, I fell in love with it. Luckily at the time I was living in Bavaria, coincidentally also the
current home of said painting. When I went to see it, it was much larger in person than I could have
ever envisioned and much more vibrant in color and detail than I could have ever imagined. Over the
years I have seen many more paintings, I have to yet be overwhelmed the way I was when I first saw
the Portrait of Madame de Pompadour. French artist François Boucher painted the legendary Portrait
of Madame de Pompadour in 1756. He utilized oil on canvas to paint the 201 × 157 cm (79.1 × 61.8
in) portrait of the chief mistress to Louis XV, Jeanne Antoinette Poisson aka. The Marquise de
Pompadour (also referred to as Madame de Pompadour). Boucher, who lived from 1703 70, was the
archetypal painter of the French rococo, a style that subordinated subject matter to a lacy, frothy
sensuality in which bodies, clothes, clouds, waves and forests become not themselves but images of
desire, metaphors for titillation. Among the most prolific of his generation, he worked in virtually
every medium and every

Abstract
The study tried to show the role of listening comprehension in cognitivist, meta cognitivist and
behavioristic based language learning methods. Reviewing the literature it was found that listening has
different roles in the methods. It was found that behaviorism limits listening to grammar and
pronunciation drills and does not pay much attention to listening as an active skill. It was ... Show

Listeners must discriminate between sounds, understand vocabulary and grammatical structures,
interpret stress and intention, retain and interpret this within the immediate as well as the larger socio
cultural context of the utterance (Wipf, 1984). Listeners use both bottom up processers and top down
processes to comprehend (Guo and Wills ,1999). Listening comprehension has different roles in
different language learning theories. Behaviorism emphasizes changes in behaviors due to the
influence and control of the external environment, rather than the internal thought process of the
subject (Merriam and Caffarella, 1999). Anderson
(2002) mentioned that metacognition can be defined simply as thinking about thinking. He also
mentioned that Cognitivism focuses more on more complex cognitive processes such as thinking,
problem solving, language, concept formation and information processing. Listening plays a crucial
role in students language development. Krashen (1985) argues that people acquire language by
understanding the linguistic information they hear. Thus language acquisition is achieved mainly
through receiving understandable input and listening ability is the critical component in achieving
understandable language input. Given the importance of listening in language learning and teaching,
this research tries to investigate the role of listening

The Impact Of Organizational Change On Change Management
Introduction
Change is a phenomenon which is inevitable in every aspect of human life and it is always constant
despite the fact that people do resist change due to some reasons. Organizational change is also a
phenomenon which cannot be avoided by organization, because internal and external factors exist
which can cause an organization to change. According to Mills an et al (2008) organization change
can be defined as an alteration of a core aspect of an organization s operations. Theses core aspects
involve culture of the company, the technology used or the structure of the organization. This report
will evaluate the impact of organizational changes.
Change Management
The change Management function will assess the nature and magnitude of the change as a result of the
change programme and who it will affect. In parallel to this, the team should put in place measures to
assess how ready people are for the change. As an output of the change readiness assessments, and any
areas of the organisation who look to be particularly resistant to change or are facing a significant
volume of change can be given specific focus. The readiness to change will be measured across the
project lifecycle to monitor and track the sentiment of the organisation.
Policies and Procedures against the Strategic Plan
Once reviewed, policies which had been developed in response to meeting the requirements of the
strategic plan must b reviewed to identify those that require change. The time taken

Icarus Literary Devices
Greek mythology can be transformed to fit different circumstances in modern society. In his poem,
Icarus, Edward Field utilizes a myriad of different literary devices and techniques to adapt this age old
myth to a more contemporary setting. Field illustrates his interpretation of the myth in a modern
context through the use of symbols, contemporary connections to society, and strong diction. Also, he
focuses on other views of the fall of Icarus instead of only the fall itself. Throughout his poem, these
devices help to communicate his point of view on the myth to a modern day audience. Symbolism is a
key feature that aids in providing a deeper meaning to a piece. In the myth, Icarus melted his wings by
flying too close to the sun. In the poem,

he put it in my room because my mother told me later. I had cried myself to sleep that night, and when
I opened my swollen, sticky eyes the next morning, the first thing I saw , lying on the pillow next to
my head, was a tiger lily. It was clear that grandpa didn t understand, so I tried to explain why I didn t
want to have freckles and why I felt so inadequate when I compared my appearance with Janette

Is It True That The Bottom Line Of Business Is Profit and Profit Alone?

Abstract
This will be an over view of ethics as it relates to business in our society. Concepts from Philosophy
will seek to describe the correlation between actions that are classified as morally right or ethical in
our dealings with each other as human beings. Clear and concise examples will be given as well as
ways in which to improve upon business ethics.
Can business thrive by profit alone? Barry (2000) described Milton Friedman s short essay, in the
1970 s, as extremely controversial, in which he denied that corporate executives had any moral duty to
relax the conditions of profit maximization on behalf of the wider interests of society. This example of
the bottom line of business has been demonstrated within the past couple of decades by publicly
criticized companies, for fraudulent activities, such as, Enron, WorldCom, and HealthSouth along with
many others. These company executives were willing to sacrifice the vast majority and greater good of
society for profit gains. This mindset left many of loyal investors, consumers and employees without a
sound stabilized future. There are also many businesses that produce a high yield on their investments;

According to Leigh Cohn, bulimia is an addiction that takes over a persons thoughts and self esteem.
The longer the person is bulimic, the harder it is to quit (19). There is a growing trend toward bulimia.
Even though more women are affected than men, the most common age of bulimics range from 13 40
years of age. These people are commonly known to be high achievers or sports players. One source
from The Royal College of Psychiatrists states, high achievers are affected because they see bulimia as
the missing link to the perfectism puzzle (Internet). It s also common for anorexics to turn bulimic
because anorexics starve themselves. When they finally do eat, they feel out of control and purge. In
fact, 60% of all anorexics eventually turn bulimic. There are several forms of bulimia. The most
frequent form is binge and purge. Another form of bulimia is when a person binges really badly, and
then fasts for days. This form actually makes the person gain weight because it will slow down their
metabolism , and when they start eating again they will actually gain weight. In a book entitled When

most common methods are: self induced vomiting, over use of laxatives or diuretics, enemas, abuse of

Jainism And Religion Essay
The Verdas, a collection of ancient Indian religious scripts, formed the basis for Brahmanism. With
heavy emphasis on the caste system, the religion dominated
Indian culture for several hundred years but eventually became the platform from which Jainism,
Buddhism, and Hinduism sprang. Initially, the local Aryan and
Dravidian societies worshipped gods whose presence manifested itself in physical phenomena such as
lightning and fire. As a result, members of early Indian civilizations found spiritualism in external
events. The Upanishads however, recorded between 750 B.C.E. and 500 B.C.E., introduced
fundamental concepts that suggested humans, not gods, are ultimately responsible for what happens to
them in the afterlife. Samsara, the belief ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They are widespread and still hold significance across the world.
In order to compete with the influx of Jainism and Buddhism, Brahmanism was forced to evolve.
Hinduism, much more reflective of orthodox Brahmanism than the teachings of Mahavira or Buddha,
revolved around the moral law dharma. Perhaps the most unique feature, however, is the polytheistic
approach that promotes the worship of personal gods, which provided an appealing versatility.
Hinduism evolved with the
Bhagavad Gita, a manifesto for how adherence to dharma could be balanced with the pleasures of life,
contrary to the asceticism of competing religions. Additionally, dharma brought optimism to the
working class by offering the promise of serenity in the afterlife, though it ultimately subdued them
and perpetuated the caste system found in ancient
India. Hinduism remains the most dominant religion in the region.

Outlasting the SARS Epidemic
Introduction
When speaking of epidemics, the memories which come to mind are different for different people; for
those who lived in Hong Kong in 2002 2003, images that spring up would almost invariably be of
Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome, the epidemic known to man as SARS in short. Sharing with us
the three letter acronym (SAR) which was given to us by our leaders in China, this ordeal has left its
mark on our city in more ways than one. It had caused a widespread wave of mysophobia and health
consciousness among the Hong Kong people, which outlasted the SARS epidemic but is probably
slowly waning. It has also raised the awareness of the government of the importance of the control of
infectious diseases, both in the community and in the clinical setting. Most importantly, SARS showed
us what works and what needs improving in terms of infection control in the event of a major
epidemic.
Originally starting in November 2002 in Guangdong Province of China, the SARS coronavirus has
since infected as many as 8422 persons worldwide, with a total of 1755 patients infected, among
which 300 unfortunately succumbed to this disease. (1) Apart from being a major epidemic in the
medical history of Hong Kong and a health threat of global concern, another aspect of SARS worth
noting is the occurrence of nosocomial outbreaks. SARS was the cause of nosocomial outbreaks in
Canada, China, Hong Kong, Vietnam and Singapore. (2) The impact of nosocomial outbreak in an
epidemic such as SARS

Lehman Brothers And The Subprime Mortgage Crisis Essay
On September 15th, 2008, Lehman Brothers filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy, the largest filing for
bankruptcy in the history of the United States (U.S.). During this time, Lehman Brothers was the
fourth largest investment firm in the U.S. It declared $639 billion in assets and $613 billion in debts
(Wiggins, Piontek, Metrick, 2014). They had come a long way from a general store in Alabama back
in the 1800 s. This company s downfall can mostly be blamed on the subprime mortgage crisis of
2007/2008, surely there are many other reasons though. The U.S. government did not employ any
bailout tactics for Lehman Brothers like it did for J.P. Morgan Chase. The government did let some
other firms go bankrupt, but their biggest mistake was leaving Lehman Brothers out to dry. Their
downfall had a much worse impact on the economy. It is estimated that this crisis cost the U.S.
economy (based on lost output) (goods and services not yet produced) anywhere from a couple trillion
to $10 trillion dollars (Wiggins et al., 2014). This is despite the vigorous efforts of the U.S.
government and governments from around the world to stabilize and maintain their economies.
Lehman Brothers originally started out as a general store. In 1844, Henry Lehman started the business
and eventually his two brothers, Emanuel and Mayer, joined in. What started off as selling supplies to
cotton farmers quickly turned to a commodities broker company. After the Civil War, Lehman
Brothers helped form and head the

Impact Of Formative Assessment On Student Learning
What is formative assessment and how does it impact on student learning?
Formative assessment is assessment for learning. It is used at the beginning of an instructional period
and during the process of instruction as teachers check for student understanding. Diagnostic tools
determine what students already know and where there are gaps and misconceptions. Formative
assessment also includes assessment as learning, where students reflect on and monitor their own
progress. The information gained guides teachers decisions in how to enhance teaching and learning.
Students will reflect on and monitor progress; this progress intern becomes assessment as learning
because it contributes to students planning for future learning goals. (Chappuis, 2009, p.4) A notable
finding of Black and Wiliam s work is that formative assessment has a disproportionately beneficial
impact on low‐achieving students. They state that, while formative assessment can help all pupils, it
yields particularly good results with low achievers by concentrating on specific problems with their
work and giving them a clear understanding of what is wrong and how to put it right The assumption
here is that formative assessment shows students that underperformance is not innate and that
improvements can be made through targeted changes (Black and Wiliam, Inside the Black Box, Op.
cit., p. 6.)
Another main attribute to meaningful classroom dialogue is the teachers ability to pitch good, thought
out and well planned questions to assist students and scaffold their learning by prompting them with
thought evoking and reflective questions, requiring the student to think. (Black Wiliam in Gardner,
2006). It must be noted that for this process to be effective, teachers need to provide students with
adequate thinking time to formulate their answers and in turn manifest their learning. Finally applying
new modes of pedagogy and significant changes in classroom practice will assist in student
understanding by having students make self assessments through their own assessment process. Self
assessment increases students sense of responsibility to learn and over time relieves teachers with less
of a responsibility to actively assess and coach students

Apple iPad Air vs. Kindle Fire HDX
With a new design and faster processor, the iPad Air was in instant success. However, the new Kindle
Fire HDX 8.9 is not far behind. Amazon s new Kindle offers a higher resolution screen and new
features such as the Mayday button for immediate support all for $120 less than Apple s iPad. But
which tablet is a better overall value for what it can provide? Amazon s Kindle Fire HDX 8.9 weighs
in at .89 pounds with an 8.9 inch display. This is much lighter and smaller than the iPad Air. Apple s
iPad weighs in at 1.05 pounds with a 9.7 inch display which gives the user a much bigger screen with
very little weight difference. Both the iPad Air and the HDX 8.9 contain dual speakers. This offers
great sound quality from both tablets. Amazon and Apple have both improved their game when it
comes to new interfaces for their devices. Amazon s HDX added many new features to its home
screen. Although it still contains the somewhat childish carousel view containing recently opened
apps, Amazon added a new Quick Switch feature from within apps to avoid going back to the home
screen. Because the Kindle Fire HDX 8.9 was created primarily for reading, it contains a Quiet Time

Mathematics and music played far reaching roles in his life and essentially shaped his personality.
Since a young age, Oliver has shown an yearning interest in mathematics and his enthusiasm was

They went to go look for the Bacchus, the Roman God of Wine. While looking for Bacchus, Percy and
Jason were possessed by edilions from the underworld. Percy and Jason started to attack Piper, so then
Piper used her charming powers of Aphrodite to remove the edilions from Percy and Jason. Then the
demi gods split up into groups to go look for the Athena Parthenos Statue. Annabeth, looking for the
Athena Parthenos Statue, had fell into an underground tunnel. In that tunnel, she saw cobwebs that
reminded her of the demi god Arachne. But when Annabeth had fallen she had broken her ankle and
was unable to move. Arachne was in the tunnel with Annabeth, so Arachne slowly approached
Annabeth and said I swore to kill all of Athena s children . Annabeth had used her intelligence to trick
Arachne, by saying that she could display Arachne s tapestry on Mt.Olympus if she spared Annabeth.
Annabeth told Arachne what to weave, Arachne didn t know that she was weaving a handcuff design.
Once Arachne was done weaving, she found herself trapped in her own tapestry. Arachne then started
thrashing and smashing, to break herself free, but the underground tunnels they were in were
thousands of years old. The ground above and below had started to shake and rumble and blown up,

The purpose of CERCLA would not be eviscerated if the EPA is forced to litigate each detail of its
removal and remedial plans before implementing them. The EPA could still implement removal and
remedial plans with the landowners compliance so that the hazardous waste could be properly taken
care of. The responsibility for the cleanup should be on the land owners and not the taxpayers, but a
new process needs to be established. For example, it would be great if the EPA and the landowner
worked together to pursue a cleanup strategy, whereby the landowner would be able to pick the way it
will be performed to keep the costs as low as possible with the EPA approving the type of clean up
that needs to be performed to ensure that it will be performed adequately so that all of the hazardous
waste will be removed efficiently. The CERCLA was created to respond to the growing concerns of
hazardous substance in an attempt to regulate and to provide long term solutions to hazardous waste
problems. To do this, the CERCLA has a fund set aside to conduct emergency clean up activities and
hold landowners responsible for paying for the clean up. I believe that the EPA s role to litigate details
of the clean up activities would only help to complete and correct these efforts. The 1980 law requires
the parties responsible for the contamination to conduct or pay for the

Responsiveness In The House Of Representative
Responsive can simply mean answering, and in the case of congressmen the question one should ask
is whether they answer or reply to their constituent s inquiries. The question of whether congressmen
are responsive is important. Congressmen act as the representatives of diverse districts and it is part of
their duty to act on the interest of their constituents. Responsiveness should be a factor that a district
strongly considers when they re elect a representative. A member of the House of Representative must

Jean-Honoré Fragonard s The Swing
Jean Honoré Fragonard created his painting, The Swing, in 1767 using oil paint on a 2 8 x 2 1
dimension canvas done during the 1700 1800 Age of Enlightenment. Working in the Rocco style, the
piece reveals a quiet, peaceful, and relaxation atmosphere that has viewers amazed on specific detailed
find. His painting is currently in London, United Kingdom displayed at Wallace Collection. In The
Swing, Fragonard uses soft colors, emphasis, implied motion, and atmospheric perspective space to
capture that sensual mysterious story behind the painting.
Fragonard uses soft brushstrokes to give us that nature feeling with analogous shades of color green.
While the surroundings are green, Fragonard used sensual pastel pink color to reveal the beautiful
young lady. He added tone of white to the shade of red, which could be called complimentary color to
draw attention to the young lady s dress. As we observe, we can predict how detailed his work ended
when combining like colors. Angel statues have emotion reactions that actually have a meaning. The

Summary Of The Faces In The Mirror By Ty Burr
Why are people so fascinated with celebrities? What makes people want to be like them? What are
celebrities actually like? Facing these tough questions, Ty Burr in his essay The Faces in the Mirror
forces readers to question their own answers. By explaining the history of celebrities and the worship
of them, he gives readers a wealth of knowledge. Wisely, Burr immediately establishes his credibility
so that readers know they can trust his educated point of view. His essay is full of strong logic.
However, it lacks a substantial amount of hardcore facts. Furthermore, Burr effortlessly snatches the
reader s attention by using dramatic statements and achieving a sense of pathos. Burr s authority on
the topic, along with his convincing logic, and dramatic statements allow his essay to achieve a
remarkable persuasiveness to his essay.
In his essay, Burr instantly creates a sense of ethos. Within the first two paragraphs, Burr articulated
that he is a professional film critic for a major metropolitan daily newspaper (Burr 31). Because of this
statement, he gained credibility on the subject of actors. Additionally, he has interviewed a number of
actors and directors, ingénues and legends (Burr 31). Burr makes sure to give some examples of
especially famous stars that he has interviewed to further provide credibility. Some include: Steve
Carell, Laura Linney, and Kevin Spacey (Burr 33). Throughout his essay, Burr takes a position of
authority on the subject and writes with intense confidence in his knowledge. Furthermore, readers
swiftly realize that Burr has done plenty of research to make readers ponder their position. By proving
his credibility, Burr quickly and efficiently snatches the reader s attention and gives them a reason to
want to continue reading.
Using a long string of logic, Burr s writing is primarily the history of America s cultural obsession
with celebrities. While his logic is simple to understand, it is absolutely intelligible. Although he
doesn t provide nearly enough hardcore facts, Burr makes sure to include a few facts in an effort to
further his point. For instance, he draws attention to the fact that the man who shot and killed John
Lennon...made sure to get his autograph first

Case Analysis Of Crispy Bacon, Inc. ( Cb )
Crispy Bacon, Inc. (CB) is a public company that provides pork products to various markets in the
United States. CB has three major inventory categories live hogs, developing animals, and processed
pork products. Currently, CB is trying to determine whether an inventory impairment exists according
to US GAAP because of a decline in future prices. Although prices are declining, it is likely within the
fiscal year prices will recover. The question of inventory impairment only relates to live hogs and
developing animals sold to third parties. It is believed that live hogs and developing animals that will
be processed internally and sold as processed pork products will be able to recover costs.

Issue 2: More specifically, how should management evaluate impairment?
(a) Should inventory be evaluated for impairment under the lower of cost or market method on a total
inventory basis?
The applicable guidance regarding inventory impairment as it pertains to evaluation on a total
inventory basis is included as follows:
ASC 330 10 35 8
Depending on the character and composition of the inventory (..) the inventory being measured may
properly be applied (..) to the total of the inventory (..)
ASC 330 10 35 10
(..) When no loss of income is expected to take place as a result of a reduction of cost prices of certain
goods because others forming components of the same general categories of finished products have a
market value (..) or net realizable value (..) equally in excess of cost (..) the guidance on subsequent
measurement may be applied directly to the totals of the entire inventory
As ASC 330 10 25 8 states, inventory can be measured in totality based on the nature of the inventory.
Furthermore, ASC 330 10 25 10 states that in a situation where no loss of income is expected because
certain goods within the same category have value in excess of costs, then any subsequent evaluation
of value can be applied to the entire inventory. The scope of ASC 330 does not exclude CB, so this
guidance can be applied.
The substance of the CB s inventory is

Armstrong State University Men s Basketball Team Essay
I chose to do my Field Study report on the Armstrong State University Men s Basketball team, and I

planning and preparation. I know this from personal experience and talking with my coaches. There
are many individuals that don t understand what actually goes into a college basketball game; it s more
than just having talented young athletes being put on a court to showcase their abilities. There is
practice, film, scouting, motivational techniques, mental sharpening methods, and even extra
individual attention to detail. Over the four and a half years that I have been a member of this

Is Hawaii An Independent State
The last time I spoke I informed you of how Hawaii was annexed by the United States of America.
Today I will enlighten you on why that annexation was illegal. I will touch base on a few points to
show that Hawaii is still an independent state and coequal sovereign country by discussing state
sovereignty and government, and Hawaiian Sovereignty and International law
First off to value and understand the phrases independent State and coequal sovereign, we need to
know these words, as they were recognized in the nineteenth century. According to Sir Robert
Phillamore s Commentaries upon International Laws, a sovereign State in the nineteenth century was
explained as a people permanently occupying a secure territory, bound collectively by common laws,
habits, and customs into one body of politic, exercising, through the medium of an organized
Government, independent sovereignty and control over all persons and things within its boundaries,
capable of making war and peace, and of entering into all International relations with the other
communities of the globe (Phillamore, 1879). Professor Freeman Snow states in his International Law:
Lectures Delivered at the Naval War College that a State must be an organization of people for
political ends; it must permanently occupy a fixed territory; it must possess an organized government
capable of making and enforcing law within the community; and, finally, to be a sovereign State it
must not be subject to any external control ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
International law in the nineteenth century provided that only by way of conquest, validated by treaty
or subjugation, or by a treaty of cession could an independent State s complete sovereignty be
terminated, thereby merging the former State into that of a successor State.
The establishment of the United States of America is a prime example of this principle through a
voluntary merger of sovereignty. After the American Revolution, Great Britain recognized the former
thirteen British colonies as free Sovereign and independent States in a confederation by the 1782
Treaty of Paris, but these States later relinquished their sovereignties in 1789 into a single federated
State, which was to be thereafter referred to as the United States of America (MacDonald,

  • 2. Relationship Between Burnout And Work Engagement Relationship between Burnout and Work Engagement A significant negative relationship with Emotional Exhaustion was found for engagement (r= 0.35, p 0.01) based on the above results. From the results, academics who reported a lesser degree of engagement in their work are the ones who are more emotionally exhausted. Here, burnout shows a moderate inverse relationship with engagement, in that the higher degree of burnout reported the lesser the engagement. This result supported the first hypothesis presented in the study, i.e. burnout is negatively correlated with work engagement. Relationship between Burnout and Pressure to Publish In Table 6 above, results show Pressure to Publish to have a significant and positive relationship with that of Emotional Exhaustion (r = 0.36, p 0.01) indicating that academics who reported higher feelings of being under pressure to publish displayed higher levels of Emotional Exhaustion than those who reported lower feelings of being under pressure. Or in other words, as an academic s perceived Pressure to Publish increased, so did their levels of Emotional Exhaustion. According to this result, academics levels of burnout is indeed affected by their perceived feelings of pressure to publish supporting the second hypothesis of the study. Relationship between Burnout and Resilience In regards to Emotional Exhaustion and Resilience, a significant negative relationship was found (r = 0.26, p 0.01) between the two variables. ... The prisoner is psychiatrist, Dr. Hannibal Lector, a brilliant yet murderous cannibal who will only help Starling if she gives him details about her own life even though she was advised by her superiors not to. The director needed to figure out a way to involve his audience in the plot so they would not be merely witnesses to the mind games and actually feel the suspense. The director positioned the camera so that the actors are speaking directly to the audience in close up and extreme close up shots, suggesting the characters in the film recognize the audience s presence or their own participation in the movie. This camera work instills fear and anguish in its audience because it makes it seem as the actors are peering down or looking straight into the audience s eyes. • 4. Lenin s Rule and Effect on USSR Essay Lenin s Rule and Effect on USSR It has been said, by Winston Churchill no less, that The Russian people s worst misfortune was his birth; their next was his death. There is much truth in this statement, because Churchill was able to see that as Lenin matured, so did his policies, and these lead to improving conditions for the Russian people. As Lenin matured as a leader, so did his policies; as Lenin died his policies died with him. When Lenin first found himself with power over the Soviets, he was in a Civil war, and from such a situation arose War Communism. Over time however, Lenin was able to see the flaws of this policy and had the maturity to admit that he may have made a mistake. From ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this respect, Lenin was showing signs of immaturity and inexperience even before he had gained power, although he was still a very skilled revolutionary. Despite this neglect of the peasant base, Lenin was able to take control of Russia relatively easily. It was not long however, until divisions amongst the Russian people became apparently, and Russia slipped into civil war. The civil war and the policies that were spawned to combat it had severe political, social and economic impacts on Russia. The main overriding policy of War Communism led to a severe loss of political freedom. Lenin introduced into the world the whole concept of a one party state(T.E.E. Revision Centre. The Russian Revolution), where there were no elections held for political parties, but for representatives within the party instead. Protests and uprisings were also eliminated by War Communism. Protestors could be shot on site and nothing was thought of it (Wikipedia War Communism [www]). Very soon, Russia became a dictatorship of a sort, where Lenin had ultimate power over the presiding political party, the Communist Party, and controlled all of the major activities of Russia. This came as a severe blow to the people, as the promise of land made to them ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Fructose Intolerance And The Aldolase B Gene And Fructose Fructose Intolerance is caused by mutations in the aldolase B gene and Fructose 1, 6 biphosphate aldolase. Both are important because it is responsible for gluconeogenesis and fructose metabolism. Gluconeogenesis is the metabolic pathway that results in the production of glucose from non carbohydrate carbon substrates or the opposite of Glycolysis (Figure 1). In simple terms, a mutation on Fructose 1, 6 biphosphate would both hinder the production of pyruvate and the production of glucose. Fructose Intolerance is also referred to as Fructose 1 Phosphate Aldolase Deficiency. The modified enzyme varies in its original function and structure that derived from a restricted genetic mutation (Cox, O Donnell, Camilleri, and Burghes). Aldolase B is classified as a Lyase, or an enzyme that catalyzes the breaking of various bonds means other than hydrolysis and oxidation. Lyase often forms a double bond or a new ring structure. Fructose Intolerance is caused by mutations in the aldolase B gene which is expressed in the liver (Malay, Allen, and Tolan). Its molecular compound is shown in Figure 2 and has two active site residues, Lysine and Glutamate, as well as several charged residues. The functional assignment is complex because of the proximity of the many charged amino acids found at the active site. Figure 3 shows where the substitution of Proline for Alanine occur at position 149 (Malay, Allen, and Tolan). The A149P substitution is known as AP aldolase (Malay, Procious, and ... It didn t matter if you were rich or poor, that was the principle (NHS choices, 2015). With the NHS confronting its greatest difficulties throughout the following decade, there are numerous reasons that the NHS is coming to emergency point. Each test should be tended to and a successful method for adapting and giving better treatment to patients should be involved. The department of health responded by suggesting that it s an ongoing battle for the NHS to provide an ever efficient service. A big claim to help fight these financial issues, was to restrict the amount of agency staff and management consultants, who earn a considerably larger wage compared to that of your regular NHS staff member (Meikle J, 2015). • 7. The Portrait Of Madame De Pompadour I remember the precise moment when I first laid eyes on the Portrait of Madame de Pompadour. At about ten years of age, my parents bought a book titled: Women who read are dangerous. This book depicted several paintings, sculptures and photographs of women reading; among which was the Portrait of Madame de Pompadour. The second I witnessed the detail and extravagance of the painting, I fell in love with it. Luckily at the time I was living in Bavaria, coincidentally also the current home of said painting. When I went to see it, it was much larger in person than I could have ever envisioned and much more vibrant in color and detail than I could have ever imagined. Over the years I have seen many more paintings, I have to yet be overwhelmed the way I was when I first saw the Portrait of Madame de Pompadour. French artist François Boucher painted the legendary Portrait of Madame de Pompadour in 1756. He utilized oil on canvas to paint the 201 × 157 cm (79.1 × 61.8 in) portrait of the chief mistress to Louis XV, Jeanne Antoinette Poisson aka. The Marquise de Pompadour (also referred to as Madame de Pompadour). Boucher, who lived from 1703 70, was the archetypal painter of the French rococo, a style that subordinated subject matter to a lacy, frothy sensuality in which bodies, clothes, clouds, waves and forests become not themselves but images of desire, metaphors for titillation. Among the most prolific of his generation, he worked in virtually every medium and every ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Listeners must discriminate between sounds, understand vocabulary and grammatical structures, interpret stress and intention, retain and interpret this within the immediate as well as the larger socio cultural context of the utterance (Wipf, 1984). Listeners use both bottom up processers and top down processes to comprehend (Guo and Wills ,1999). Listening comprehension has different roles in different language learning theories. Behaviorism emphasizes changes in behaviors due to the influence and control of the external environment, rather than the internal thought process of the subject (Merriam and Caffarella, 1999). Anderson (2002) mentioned that metacognition can be defined simply as thinking about thinking. He also mentioned that Cognitivism focuses more on more complex cognitive processes such as thinking, problem solving, language, concept formation and information processing. Listening plays a crucial role in students language development. Krashen (1985) argues that people acquire language by understanding the linguistic information they hear. Thus language acquisition is achieved mainly through receiving understandable input and listening ability is the critical component in achieving understandable language input. Given the importance of listening in language learning and teaching, this research tries to investigate the role of listening ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. The Impact Of Organizational Change On Change Management Introduction Change is a phenomenon which is inevitable in every aspect of human life and it is always constant despite the fact that people do resist change due to some reasons. Organizational change is also a phenomenon which cannot be avoided by organization, because internal and external factors exist which can cause an organization to change. According to Mills an et al (2008) organization change can be defined as an alteration of a core aspect of an organization s operations. Theses core aspects involve culture of the company, the technology used or the structure of the organization. This report will evaluate the impact of organizational changes. Change Management The change Management function will assess the nature and magnitude of the change as a result of the change programme and who it will affect. In parallel to this, the team should put in place measures to assess how ready people are for the change. As an output of the change readiness assessments, and any areas of the organisation who look to be particularly resistant to change or are facing a significant volume of change can be given specific focus. The readiness to change will be measured across the project lifecycle to monitor and track the sentiment of the organisation. Policies and Procedures against the Strategic Plan Once reviewed, policies which had been developed in response to meeting the requirements of the strategic plan must b reviewed to identify those that require change. In his poem, Icarus, Edward Field utilizes a myriad of different literary devices and techniques to adapt this age old myth to a more contemporary setting. Field illustrates his interpretation of the myth in a modern context through the use of symbols, contemporary connections to society, and strong diction. Also, he focuses on other views of the fall of Icarus instead of only the fall itself. Throughout his poem, these devices help to communicate his point of view on the myth to a modern day audience. Symbolism is a key feature that aids in providing a deeper meaning to a piece. In the myth, Icarus melted his wings by flying too close to the sun. In the poem, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Helen Steinhofer American InterContinental University PHIL201 1603A 03 07/21/2016 Abstract This will be an over view of ethics as it relates to business in our society. Concepts from Philosophy will seek to describe the correlation between actions that are classified as morally right or ethical in our dealings with each other as human beings. Clear and concise examples will be given as well as ways in which to improve upon business ethics. Can business thrive by profit alone? Barry (2000) described Milton Friedman s short essay, in the 1970 s, as extremely controversial, in which he denied that corporate executives had any moral duty to relax the conditions of profit maximization on behalf of the wider interests of society. This example of the bottom line of business has been demonstrated within the past couple of decades by publicly criticized companies, for fraudulent activities, such as, Enron, WorldCom, and HealthSouth along with many others. These company executives were willing to sacrifice the vast majority and greater good of society for profit gains. This mindset left many of loyal investors, consumers and employees without a sound stabilized future. There are also many businesses that produce a high yield on their investments; ... There is a growing trend toward bulimia. Even though more women are affected than men, the most common age of bulimics range from 13 40 years of age. These people are commonly known to be high achievers or sports players. One source from The Royal College of Psychiatrists states, high achievers are affected because they see bulimia as the missing link to the perfectism puzzle (Internet). It s also common for anorexics to turn bulimic because anorexics starve themselves. When they finally do eat, they feel out of control and purge. In fact, 60% of all anorexics eventually turn bulimic. There are several forms of bulimia. The most frequent form is binge and purge. Another form of bulimia is when a person binges really badly, and then fasts for days. This form actually makes the person gain weight because it will slow down their metabolism , and when they start eating again they will actually gain weight. • 14. Jainism And Religion Essay The Verdas, a collection of ancient Indian religious scripts, formed the basis for Brahmanism. With heavy emphasis on the caste system, the religion dominated Indian culture for several hundred years but eventually became the platform from which Jainism, Buddhism, and Hinduism sprang. Initially, the local Aryan and Dravidian societies worshipped gods whose presence manifested itself in physical phenomena such as lightning and fire. As a result, members of early Indian civilizations found spiritualism in external events. The Upanishads however, recorded between 750 B.C.E. and 500 B.C.E., introduced fundamental concepts that suggested humans, not gods, are ultimately responsible for what happens to them in the afterlife. In order to compete with the influx of Jainism and Buddhism, Brahmanism was forced to evolve. Hinduism, much more reflective of orthodox Brahmanism than the teachings of Mahavira or Buddha, revolved around the moral law dharma. Perhaps the most unique feature, however, is the polytheistic approach that promotes the worship of personal gods, which provided an appealing versatility. Hinduism evolved with the Bhagavad Gita, a manifesto for how adherence to dharma could be balanced with the pleasures of life, contrary to the asceticism of competing religions. Additionally, dharma brought optimism to the working class by offering the promise of serenity in the afterlife, though it ultimately subdued them and perpetuated the caste system found in ancient India. Hinduism remains the most dominant religion in the region. Works Cited McKay, John P. A History of World Societies Volume A: To 1500, 10th Edition. Bedford/St. Martin s, 09/2014. VitalBook file. • 15. Outlasting the SARS Epidemic Introduction When speaking of epidemics, the memories which come to mind are different for different people; for those who lived in Hong Kong in 2002 2003, images that spring up would almost invariably be of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome, the epidemic known to man as SARS in short. Sharing with us the three letter acronym (SAR) which was given to us by our leaders in China, this ordeal has left its mark on our city in more ways than one. It had caused a widespread wave of mysophobia and health consciousness among the Hong Kong people, which outlasted the SARS epidemic but is probably slowly waning. It has also raised the awareness of the government of the importance of the control of infectious diseases, both in the community and in the clinical setting. Most importantly, SARS showed us what works and what needs improving in terms of infection control in the event of a major epidemic. Originally starting in November 2002 in Guangdong Province of China, the SARS coronavirus has since infected as many as 8422 persons worldwide, with a total of 1755 patients infected, among which 300 unfortunately succumbed to this disease. (1) Apart from being a major epidemic in the medical history of Hong Kong and a health threat of global concern, another aspect of SARS worth noting is the occurrence of nosocomial outbreaks. SARS was the cause of nosocomial outbreaks in Canada, China, Hong Kong, Vietnam and Singapore. (2) The impact of nosocomial outbreak in an epidemic such as SARS ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. Lehman Brothers And The Subprime Mortgage Crisis Essay On September 15th, 2008, Lehman Brothers filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy, the largest filing for bankruptcy in the history of the United States (U.S.). During this time, Lehman Brothers was the fourth largest investment firm in the U.S. It declared $639 billion in assets and $613 billion in debts (Wiggins, Piontek, Metrick, 2014). They had come a long way from a general store in Alabama back in the 1800 s. This company s downfall can mostly be blamed on the subprime mortgage crisis of 2007/2008, surely there are many other reasons though. The U.S. government did not employ any bailout tactics for Lehman Brothers like it did for J.P. Morgan Chase. The government did let some other firms go bankrupt, but their biggest mistake was leaving Lehman Brothers out to dry. Their downfall had a much worse impact on the economy. It is estimated that this crisis cost the U.S. economy (based on lost output) (goods and services not yet produced) anywhere from a couple trillion to $10 trillion dollars (Wiggins et al., 2014). This is despite the vigorous efforts of the U.S. government and governments from around the world to stabilize and maintain their economies. Lehman Brothers originally started out as a general store. In 1844, Henry Lehman started the business and eventually his two brothers, Emanuel and Mayer, joined in. What started off as selling supplies to cotton farmers quickly turned to a commodities broker company. After the Civil War, Lehman Brothers helped form and head the ... • 18. Impact Of Formative Assessment On Student Learning What is formative assessment and how does it impact on student learning? Formative assessment is assessment for learning. It is used at the beginning of an instructional period and during the process of instruction as teachers check for student understanding. Diagnostic tools determine what students already know and where there are gaps and misconceptions. Formative assessment also includes assessment as learning, where students reflect on and monitor their own progress. The information gained guides teachers decisions in how to enhance teaching and learning. Students will reflect on and monitor progress; this progress intern becomes assessment as learning because it contributes to students planning for future learning goals. (Chappuis, 2009, p.4) A notable finding of Black and Wiliam s work is that formative assessment has a disproportionately beneficial impact on low‐achieving students. They state that, while formative assessment can help all pupils, it yields particularly good results with low achievers by concentrating on specific problems with their work and giving them a clear understanding of what is wrong and how to put it right The assumption here is that formative assessment shows students that underperformance is not innate and that improvements can be made through targeted changes (Black and Wiliam, Inside the Black Box, Op. cit., p. 6.) Another main attribute to meaningful classroom dialogue is the teachers ability to pitch good, thought out and well planned questions to assist students and scaffold their learning by prompting them with thought evoking and reflective questions, requiring the student to think. (Black Wiliam in Gardner, 2006). It must be noted that for this process to be effective, teachers need to provide students with adequate thinking time to formulate their answers and in turn manifest their learning. Finally applying new modes of pedagogy and significant changes in classroom practice will assist in student understanding by having students make self assessments through their own assessment process. Self assessment increases students sense of responsibility to learn and over time relieves teachers with less of a responsibility to actively assess and coach students ... • 31. Is Hawaii An Independent State The last time I spoke I informed you of how Hawaii was annexed by the United States of America. Today I will enlighten you on why that annexation was illegal. I will touch base on a few points to show that Hawaii is still an independent state and coequal sovereign country by discussing state sovereignty and government, and Hawaiian Sovereignty and International law First off to value and understand the phrases independent State and coequal sovereign, we need to know these words, as they were recognized in the nineteenth century. According to Sir Robert Phillamore s Commentaries upon International Laws, a sovereign State in the nineteenth century was explained as a people permanently occupying a secure territory, bound collectively by common laws, habits, and customs into one body of politic, exercising, through the medium of an organized Government, independent sovereignty and control over all persons and things within its boundaries, capable of making war and peace, and of entering into all International relations with the other communities of the globe (Phillamore, 1879). Professor Freeman Snow states in his International Law: Lectures Delivered at the Naval War College that a State must be an organization of people for political ends; it must permanently occupy a fixed territory; it must possess an organized government capable of making and enforcing law within the community; and, finally, to be a sovereign State it must not be subject to any external control ... After the American Revolution, Great Britain recognized the former thirteen British colonies as free Sovereign and independent States in a confederation by the 1782 Treaty of Paris, but these States later relinquished their sovereignties in 1789 into a single federated State, which was to be thereafter referred to as the United States of America (MacDonald, ...
