Fluoride had meanwhile gained application in toothpastes. Colgate took the lead, introducing
stannous fluoride in 1955. Three years later, the company launched a memorable advertising
campaign with commercials in which a little girl showed her mother a report card from the dentist
and announced Look, Ma! No cavities! Within a few years, virtually all brands of toothpaste used
fluoride; however, the use of fluoride in drinking water remained controversial.
As late as 1993, in fact, the issue of fluoridation remained heated enough to spawn a study by the
U.S. National Research Council. The council found some improvement in dental health, but not as
large as had been claimed by early proponents of fluoridation. Furthermore, this improvement could
be explained by reference to a number of other factors, including fluoride in toothpastes and a
generally heightened awareness of dental health among the U.S. populace.
Chlorofluorocarbons :
Another controversial application of fluorine is its use, along with chlorine and carbon, in
chlorofluorocarbons. As noted above, CFCs have been used in refrigerants and propellants; another
application is as a blowing agent for polyurethane foam. This continued for several decades, but in
the 1980s, environmentalists became concerned over depletion of the ozone layer high in Earth s

Pharmaceutical Care Plan
Community acquired pneumonia (CAP) is a term used to describe an acute lower respiratory tract
infection in individuals with signs, symptoms and a new radiographic shadowing for which there
is no other explanation and who have not recently been hospitalized. CAP is common and
associated with major morbidity, mortality and financial burden. The annual incidence in the
community is 5 11 per 1000 adult population, with the reported mortality less than 1% (BTS
guideline, 2009). The reported mortality of adults hospitalised with CAP in the UK has varied
between 5.7% and 14%. It is the sixth leading cause of death, and the leading infectious cause of
death (Maimon, Nopmaneejumruslers and Marras, 2008). The group of most likely causative...

Clinical judgment is essential when deciding on the management of all patients; however severity
based approach is important to reduce overestimation and underestimation of the severity of CAP
leading to inappropriate treatment. The choice of antibiotic therapy to treat the infection was
appropriated and the effectiveness of used antibiotic has confirmation in the discussed evidence.
The renal impairment caused the complication which were addressed and treated appropriately.

Abstract
This paper will explore the role of labor unions within the Unites States. The effectiveness of Unions
and how they are important for the stability of the American economy. Unions provide many
benefits to employees due to the working relationship with management and politicians in the U.S
Congress. Some of the benefits that provided by unions are, paid vacations, pensions, an 8 hour
work day with breaks and social security benefits. Unions are continually fighting with politicians
and the State Government for better benefits. Will discuss the role of HRM s employee relations
within the organizations and what role the government should play.
Increased Role of U.S. Labor Unions In the United States unions have impacted the workforce by
creating better benefits for all works. Unions work to improve the working conditions in the
workplace by working with the organization to make sure they are following the labor laws of the
State and Federal Government. Labor unions date back to the eighteenth century and the industrial
revolution in Europe. (Union Plus, n.d.) Unions exploded in the United States around the
nineteenth century with the founding of the National Labor Union (NLU) in 1866. (Union Plus,
n.d.) According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, in 2015 the overall union

Is Friar Lawrence a Good Man, Evil Character or Simply a...
Friar Lawrence plays a strong central character throughout the play, Romeo and Juliet. The Friar
is linked to both the Capulet s and the Montague s through religion and the church. Friar
Lawrence is presented as a holy man who is trusted and respected by the community because he
is a priest. Friar Lawrence is an advisor and close friend to Romeo. This is apparent when Romeo
addresses the Friar as father and Friar Lawrence addresses Romeo as his son. Romeo goes to
Friar Lawrence for help and consolation, for example, when Romeo speaks about Juliet for the
first time, Friar Lawrence speaks to him about Rosaline. This shows that their relationship is close
as they seem to know a lot about each other and becomes more apparent... Show more content on

Friar Lawrence s egotistical attitude seems to have caused more grief than comfort. By
suggesting that Juliet drinks the potion, he shows a more selfish side to his personality. I believe
that the Friars intensions are still good at this point, however he could be trying to save himself
from the situation as he may have doubts about the upcoming events, showing that there is a
very unforgiving side to him. Friar Lawrence has to be devious in order to carry out the new
idealistic plan. As a priest, he should not lie in any situation. Friar Lawrence asks come, is the
Bride ready to go to church? to the Capulet family. He already knew full well that the wedding
was not going to go ahead, however by saying this to the family, he is pretending that he knows
nothing and gets prepared to bury Juliet. This shows how deceptive the Friar can be as he
remains very composed throughout the day, which only reinforces his superiority and
confidence amongst the community. As Juliet awakes from her planned long sleep, she asks
Friar Lawrence where is my Romeo? He tells her he lies dead. At this point, Friar Lawrence would
have been very worried about his actions and he tries to cover up the lies to fix what happened. He
asks Juliet to come, I ll dispose of thee, among a sisterhood of holy Nuns. Friar Lawrence is afraid
of his actions and of being exposed as a failure and liar. Proposing this to Juliet would have been the

The Gulf Of Mexico And America
The Gulf of Mexico is a partially locked body of water surrounded by the North American
continent (Gulf of Mexico, 2000). The gulf links five southern U.S states: Florida, Alabama,
Mississippi, Louisiana, and Texas and six Mexican states: Tamaulipas, Vera Cruz, Tabasco,
Campeche, YucatГЎn, and Quintana Roo (Gulf of MexicoFacts, 2015). The gulf surrounds Cuba
and connects to the Atlantic Ocean. The Gulf of Mexico may just seem like another body of
water, but that is far from the truth. This body of water has many contributions to society and
society has also affected it in many ways because of its resources. Before doing any research I
believed that the Gulf of Mexico was owned by Mexico and I found out that this was a
misconception. No one other than the federal government owns this body of water. There are
Territorial waters, which are areas of a body of water that contact land and are claimed by an
specific country (Who Owns the Gulf of Mexico? 2010). This means that there is a 12 miles
wide band that would belong to what ever land it touches. For example 12 miles out of the coast
of Florida belong to the United States. However, parts of the Gulf of Mexico can be leased to
petroleumand gas companies in order for the government and the companies to create a profit.
The word profit takes me to one of my points of this paper on how the Gulf of Mexico helps the
people and the country. The Gulf of Mexico benefits North America greatly because of its
economical aspects.

Tuxedos Research Paper
What do these big stars wear to attend big ceremonies? Females usually wear long gowns, and
males wear tuxedos. For the ones who know little about tuxedos, they would think that all the
tuxedos are the same. The collar is the same as suits, and their back parts are longer than the front
sections. However, they are not the same in reality because they are made in different styles for
different occasions. They are usually worn on formal events, such as the wedding, proms and other
ceremonies.
Many men would like to wear black tuxedos, which are the standard ones for any occasion. They
are the traditional tuxedos, and they could be worn at any event. They look elegant and stylish all

The tuxedo should be made of high quality fabric, stylish designed and excellent lines. The black
suits may be the best choices, for the brides often wear white wedding dresses. The tuxedos are
double breasted or single breasted. You could choose each of them according to your preference.
They are fit for any occasion. But you should remember that the only breasted should be worn open,
and the double breasted should be buttoned when you are standing.
When choosing tuxedos for business occasions, you should pick the perfect ones for meetings or
parties. You may meet many potential partners in business parties; you should present yourself to
others entirely. The tuxedos you wear may help other to know you and remember you. There are
many brand tuxedos. They are designed in different colors and styles; you could choose a perfect
one for yourself.
Some people would say that the tuxedos are too expensive and they are not worn frequently.
Buying tuxedos for each occasion would be wasteful. However, there is an excellent way to
spend less money to wear proper and stylish suits for every occasion, and that is to rent tuxedos.
There must be some retailers around your home that sell suits and rent them out at the same times.
You could find a fashionable one and rent a perfect one. This would help you save lots of money,
and you could wear the most proper suits every

Essay on Solar Energy
Solar Energy
Solar energy is the most ancient kind of energy found on earth, for it is as old as the sun.
quot;Solar quot; means from the sun. The earth is only one of the many planets which is bathed in
the sun s overflowing energy. Every second the world receives 95.8 trillion watts of power...just
think about that for a minute. Think about how much power the earth just received in the time it
took you to read this sentence? It is well beyond the amount of power used in one day. It has the
potential to satisfy all our energy needs forever without ever having to use the pollutive fossil fuels
ever again. quot; The problem however, does not lie in the limited source, as do fossil fuels, but in

In the 1690 s an Italian scientist invented a solar furnace that was so hot it could shatter a diamond,
one of the hardest substances on earth (Asimov 119).
The real question around the beginning of the 19th century concerning solar energy was
quot;could the sun produce electricity directly? quot; The main motivation behind this desire was
that electricity could be stored in a battery, and used later. It would not be necessary to use the
device in the sunlight. All inventions failed, until Frank Shuman, an engineer from Pennsylvania
finally made a breakthrough. He built an experimental plant that used black troughs covered in
glass with a few inches of water. When exposed to the sun, the water got very hot, causing it to
circulate and power an electric generator. His data was so convincing that he got financial
backers and built the world s first solar electric power plant in Egypt. However, the Eastern Sun
Power Company went out of business even though it was using free fuel. It didn t produce enough
electricity for the area that it used, 14,000 sq. ft of sun collecting land (Zweibel 48).
In 1954 Bell Laboratories invented the first photovoltaic (or solar) cell, made from the semi
conductor silicon, and other elements. It was the first way to convert sunlight directly into
electricity. When the space program was launched in the 60 s, it

Perceptions Of The British And Indian War
Perceptions of Britain
Many events happened during the period of time between 1763 1775, that changed Americans
mindset from then until now. Certain people and certain events during this time frame affected the
nation of the United States enormously. This time period changed the United States for better and
for worse. Certain people like Thomas Paine and Samuel Adams, tenaciously tried to change the
course of history; haven wars, such as the French and Indian war altered the perception of the
American people. These events and people were some of the many facilitated with the defiance
against the British. This essay will show how these altercations turned the People of the newly
formed Americas against the British.
During the time of 1763 1775 one of the occurrences that happened to affect the colonist s
perception of the British was the French and Indian War. The amazing thing is that the war itself
was not the main factor of the colonist s trouble with the British, but the time after the war that was
the cause of trouble. During the war the British fought with France around the Ohio valley for the
control of land. The Ohio valley was very important to both of the empires, because of the value of
the land and the strategic point it held in the years to come. Although both had their struggles
especially with the Native Americans that called this place their home. Most of the Native
Americans sided with either the British or the French, because they thought that if they had

Realism and Romanticism within The Red Badge of Courage
Realism and Romanticism Within The Red Badge of Courage
The Red Badge of Courage, written by Stephan Crane in 1895 gives a detailed, yet, fictional
account of Henry Fleming, a farm boy who joins the Union Army in the American Civil War.
Before Henry is battle tested, he ponders his courage and questions whether he will be able to
fight the urge to flee from battle. Henry does indeed end up deserting his comrades however he
ultimately overcomes his guilt and becomes one of the best fighters in his regiment. In order to
depict a realistic and relatable war scene, Crane includes Henry s realistic thought process and
emotion in his struggles to maintain courage. The narrative simply revealed war in a manner that
was divergent to all prior forms of literature in the 19th century. Previous novels predominately
entailed the glorious and romantic aspects of war rather than the tedious, gritty, and gruesome
details of close combat. Instead, Crane broke the barriers of literary norms in war related
literature; the novel depicted a pragmatic experience of combat from the eyes of an inexperienced
and frightened youth. In the Red Badge of Courage, Stephan Crane primarily uses religious and
gory imagery as well as symbolism to contrast the romantic conceptions of war versus the reality of
experiencing battle.
One of the primary methods used to illustrate realism throughout The Red Badge of Courage would
be imagery. The entire book is essentially an outpouring of impressions and

Environmental Factors And Causes Of Climate Change In Kenya
Climate change in today s world has become of great concern due to its effects on the environment.
Globally, climate change has significantly influenced ecosystems and the existence of organisms.
This is further extending its effects to regional areas such as Kenya, whose ecosystem is not spared
by the changing climate. Despite having natural causes, Anthropogenic factors are widely
increasing and causing climate changeundisputed. Therefore, human activities are the primary
contributors to climate change leading to stress and ecosystemstrain, to continue providing for its
services. In this report, I discuss the summary of global climate change and regional focus on causes
of climate change in Kenya, its effects in ecosystem especially on the natural ecosystems, current
measures to curb the effects and the perception of the future ecosystem of the country.
Introduction
Climate change is defined as a change of climate that is attributed directly or indirectly to human
activity that alters the composition of the global atmosphere, and that is in addition to natural
climate variability observed over comparable time periods (UNFCC, 1992). (source(GoK, 2012).
Which is understood as the average change in weather patterns over an extended period, caused by
both human activities and natural factors. These factors include deforestation from increasing
human population and activities, industrialization, urbanization, volcanic eruptions, etc. These
events lead to excess carbon

Socio Cultural Context
Socio Cultural context has been a part of human history for eons. Individuals implement this theory
daily through their language that is closely linked to their culture and time in society. The
intersection of social and cultural events has helped to inform many phenomena that people had in
earlier years. However, as with any national phenomena, there is a riskfactor that is prevalent. This
paper will delve into what socio culture context is and a basic interpretation of risks, behavior risk,
and sexual risk taking.
Language is the lenses in which we view culture through our eyes. The term socio cultural context
is referring to the idea of language rather than what the social group does to implement their
practice. Though the term is linked to culture and that society, it s mainly about the language that is
invented in that culture. As a middle class African Americanwoman, my socio cultural context
stems from police brutality and feminism that is present in my community.
Police Brutality has been around for a very long time and it s sad that it still goes on today. When
an African American family sends their child out to buy food or go shopping there is always a
settle conversation about the police. Conversations that stem from the risk of being around the
police is always to keep your identification in a reachable position, don t make any fast movements,
and don t do anything that would cause the officer to pull you over. In this time, our language is

Stock Market Predictability Essay
I will now examine the effectiveness of the Book to Market ratio in predicting stock market
returns. The Book to Market ratio is used to compare the book value and the market value of the
firm. The book value is calculated by the firm s accounting worth. The market value is determined
by the market capitalization in the stock market. It is then found using the formula, Book Value of
the firm / Market Value of the firm. Its purpose is to identify any securities that may be
undervalued or overvalued. From the research of Fama and French (1992), we can see the cross
sectional variation in stock returns can be shown by the book to market ratio of individual stocks.
In Pontiff (1998), there were two measures of the book to market ratio that... Show more content on

However, in the paper s findings, the book to market ratio s predictive power is more prominent
before 1960 as there is no significant relation after 1960. The paper also concludes that after
1960, the S P book to market ratio is a better predictor of market returns than is the DJIA book to
market ratio and the S P book value is better than the DJIA book value in predicting market cash
flow . Therefore, the book to market ratio is a good predictor for future market returns as long as
we have a measure of book value that has high correlation with future cash flows.
Some financial experts argue that certain macroeconomic variables can be used for predicting stock
returns. One such macroeconomic variable is the Consumption to Wealth ratio. I will now examine
how effective this variable is in predicting future stock market returns. The expected excess returns
vary with the growths and dips in the business cycle, therefore, they should be predictable at
different stages of the cycle. To examine the relationship, we note that aggregate consumption, asset
holdings and labour income all share the same long term trend, but in the short term they may
deviate substantially from one another. According to Lettau Ludvigson 2001, we study the role of
these transitory deviations from the common trend in

Thankfully times have changed, and women writers are recognized equally as men are today in
society. The main reason is that women today have an equal chance at education. Education today
is open to everyone, because education can be paid for, or funded in various ways.
Universities today are much easier to attend for anyone that wishes to go to school. There are so
many different types of programs out there today that make education more affordable for
people that do not have the assets to pay for an education themselves. There are many forms of
financial aid available for specific groups of people. For example, there are scholarship programs
set up specifically for women, or programs set up specifically for minorities. There are also
programs set up for people with certain disabilities. These programs are set up in this sort of way
to give everyone a chance to fit in to one of the specific categories. There are many ways to apply

Theme Of Reputation In The Crucible
Reputation is extremely important in a town where social standing is tied to one s ability to
follow religious rules. Your good name is the only way you can get other people to do business
with you or even get a fair hearing. Of course, reputation meant nothing when a witchcraft
accusation was staring you in the face. But reputation is what made the Reverend hale begin to
doubt whether the accused individuals were actually guilty. And it was for the sake of his
reputation and his friends reputations that John Proctor refused to sign a false confession. He
would, quite literally, rather die. Although John Proctor goes to his death falsely condemned as
a witch, he gains his reputation and respect among those who matter, like his wife, because he
refuses to falsely identify his friends and neighbours as witches. The loss of Abigail s reputation
toward the end of the play shows that characters in The Crucible eventually earn the reputations
they deserve, despite the personal tragedies that might take place along the way. Having a good
reputation is very important in The Crucible. It means you can be accepted by society. If you do
not have a good name, you will be completely rejected. John Proctor would no longer be thought
of a morally straight and righteous person. Reverend Parris would lose all his respect and not be
accepted by society. Judge Danforth would be constantly questioned and lose his job. Keeping and
maintaining your good name is an overwhelming theme in The

[3] Franchisees have the responsibility to find a suitable place that is under the list of approved

Franchisor s point of view
Double Aces will lease equipment such as gaming tables and computer software to franchisees
because these are proprietary to the franchise operating system. Quality control and easier training
are the advantages of leasing equipment. It ensures all the franchisees are using the equipment that
meets the standard. Also, it would be easier and less costly for DA to train employees from
different franchises because all the equipment is identical. DA trainers will not have to study
different operation manuals of equipment from different brands. Domino s Pizza requires its
franchisees to buy the necessary ingredients and supplies from an approved list of suppliers in order
to ensure consistent quality throughout its franchise system. [ ] Therefore, DA will also require
franchisees to purchase other minor inputs, such as chips

Alliance System and New Imperialism
Otto Von Bismarck formed of designed the European balance of power. The power was known as
the Big Five Britain, France, Germany, Austria Hungary, and Russia. Between 1870 and 1914 the
competition within the European states for territory dominance and control caused separation.
Bismarck departed from office in 1890 which caused the disintegration of the European balance of
power. In 1914 peace was no longer guaranteed when Europe divided into two camps. The

The prosperity of Russia s economics depended on the trade of grain.
The Alliances were formed because of these weaknesses and of the tensions between France and

Germany s navy expanded during the early 1900s and by World War Ithe German navy was the
second largest in the world. Russia, France, and Britain formed the Triple Entente to set the fuse for
war (The German Empire, Article, 2010). Kaiser Wilhelm I s was replaced by a king who was ill.
He served as a temporary standby until Wilhelm II gained power and took over the throne.
Wilhelm II feared Bismarck s power so he was forced to step down and retire. Even though
Bismarck retired as prime minister his policies continued. A few major events occurred prior to
World War I during Wilhelm II s reign in the 19th century. Economic growth caused capital labor
issues to arise in Germany during this time. Wilhelm II s practices of foreign affairs policies were
often contradictory. Even though Wilhelm II had developed a friendship with Germany and Great
Britain; his imperialistic policies forced an alliance among Britain, Russia, and France. Wilhelm II
supported Austria in the Balkans and supported Russia in its affairs with East Asia. Wilhelm II also

Hardin Living On A Lifeboat Summary
To begin with, Hardin s essay Living on a Lifeboat expresses fear of over population by
comparing nations to life boats, since they both have limited carrying capacities. For instance,
Hardin asks the question, Would you fill a life boat at its maximum capacity with another 100
people? Specifically, Hardin mentions the loss of land and how we have been historically living
on capital such as stored petroleum and coal, and now we must depend on income alone (Hard
857). Basically, Hardin s core thesis is that we do not have moral obligations to the poor. To break
down Hardin s approach, he critiques multiple approaches to this problem of ensuring economic
will being for everyone. First, he mentions the Marxist and Christian approaches which would lead
to complete social justice, but also complete catastrophe, since the lifeboat in his example would
drown due to overcapacity... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
858). By doing this, Hardin is postulating that collective economic growth and safety are more
desirable than an economy based on moral obligations and equality. To support his claims, Hardin
then moves on to the dangers of population growth. Indeed, Hardin draws parallels between a
lifeboat and high rates of population growth, since the current population rise globally would make
it difficult to provide for everyone in the U.S or in poorer countries. To expand, Hardin is critiquing
globalism, since he finds it impossible for the U.S or developing nations to be the life boat
supporting nations with high population growth rates. According to Hardin, there is simply not
enough recourses and too much population growth to live according to a Marxist or Christian ethic
of equality. To expand, Hardin s main critique of the Marxist Christian theory is that it does not take
into account human selfishness and cannot be sustainable to growing populations

Wine As A Alcoholic Beverage That Can Be Easily Evaporated...
1. Introduction
1.1What is wine?
Wine is an alcoholic beverage that can be easily evaporated while left in room temperature. The
plant source of producing wine is grapes. Common examples of grapes that are used to produce
wine are Chardonnay, Cabernet sauvignon, Gamay and Merlot. To obtain wine, the plant sources
that are grapes that consist of sugar must be crushed and added with water to produce mesh for

results in producing carbon dioxide and ethanol which is known as alcohol.

alternative is to band together with other competitors to discuss market strategy options. One of
those options could be to reach an agreement to fix prices, divide up the market, or otherwise
restrict competition among themselves (McConnell, et. al., 2009, p. 236). This option could cease
any kind of price war from happening and keep prices competitive with all the oligopoly firms.

Essay On Should The Government Regulate The First Amendment
Regulate or Not?
Why would not the United States Government regulate the First Amendment in the Bill of Rights?
People in the government, and not in the government have many examples why the government
should not regulate the first amendment. The First Amendment gives us many freedoms. The
United States Government should not regulate the First Amendment.
For example, the United States Government should not regulate the First Amendment because
natural born or naturalized citizens have the right to exercise these freedoms. They decided to wear
black armbands to create a policy that stated that any students wearing an armband would be asked
to remove it, with refusal in suspension (Oyez, 1). Students at that school wore armbands, but some

Themes In Fire And Flood
In the book Fire and Flood by Victoria Scott, the main character Tella is faced with many
challenges that she decided to take on. These challenges she took were for her brother Cody and
curing his sickness. They were taken place in the middle of a jungle, desert, and mountain ranges
where many dangers were presented. She faced many situations along this expedition, but she never
abandoned the thought of being able to help her brother. One theme that can be supported
throughout the book by many critical scenes is that it takes a lot of strength and perseverance to
make sacrifices for a person that is important.
In the book Fire and Flood by Victoria Scott, the theme was majorly supported in many specific
parts of the book. For example, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Tella was going to have to give up. To be specific, the book states My head bobs above and below
the surface, each time I draw in a breath , I wonder if it ll be my last (Scott 154). This quote
connects to the theme because it shows how she had to go through rough times that were worse
than others, but she still never gave up. This supports the theme because it is a good
representation of what she had to go through in the race. In addition, the author explains how
there were more dangerous situations outside of the natural obstacles in the race. Specifically,
the book states I look over my shoulder and gasp. The strange men are chasing us (Scott 155).
This part of the book is very important because it shows how other things were there , such as
unsafe people who were also another risk to their lives at this time. This shows that Tella had to be
very cautious of her surroundings and who was near her. After all, Tella went on this race for her
brother knowing the conditions she was going to be put through, which shows her strength and
perseverance.

White In The Great Gatsby
White is colour at its most complete and pure, the colour of perfection. The colour meaning of
white is purity, innocence, wholeness and completion. The colour white was introduced into the
novel when Daisy was described as wearing a white dress. The dress showed her as having a pure
and innocent personality. It was actually ironic that she wore white because the reader knows of
her true characteristics, even though she was represented as lovable character in the book and as
well as the movie. The white covered the fact that she was having an affair with Gatsby. White can

Gatsby surprised her by making an appearance shortly after she arrived. The nervous Jay Gatsby
knocked over and broke a clock while trying to keep his cool around Daisy. This symbolized how
time stopped for the two of them when Gatsby went to war. Gatsby wished things could go back
to how they were before Daisy married Tom, but inside he knew that it was impossible then. The
clock breaking could also be seen as the end of Gatsby s time. It foreshadowed that his time was
running short and soon something might happen to prevent him from marrying Daisy. In the
end, Wilson cut Gatsby s time short by killing him, for basically no reason as he didn t even kill
Myrtle. Overall, the clock represented time and how it played a reoccurring roll in the novel.
Time separated Daisy and Gatsby from getting married five years prior to the setting of the story.
The breaking of the clock showed a sudden change in the steady pace of time. White is not only
mentioned related to Gatsby, but as Nick went to see Daisy for the first time, over at Tom

Computer Networks And The Network
Computer Networks
Network is between two or more computers connected each other they can exchange data. For
example a network allows computers to share files, users to message each other. Computer network
topology is the way various components of a network for example (link, connect) which is different
systems and nodes are connected and communicate with each other.
A network is a set of devices, software, and cables that enables the exchange of information
between them. Host devices are computers, servers, laptops, Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs), or
anything a person uses to access the network. A topology describes the layout of a network. There
are several topologies (Star, Ring, Bus and mesh).

than the file server
O Cables used to connect the network interface cards in each computer. METROPOLITAN AREA
NETWORK (MAN)
Metropolitan Area Network (MAN) covers larger geographic areas, such as cities. Often used by
local libraries and government agencies often to connect to citizens and private industries. WIDE
AREA NETWORK (WAN)
Wide Area Networks (WANs) connect larger geographic areas, such as London, the UK, or the

ADVANTAGES OF NETWORK
Speed. Sharing and transferring files within Networks are very rapid. Thus saving time, while
maintaining the integrity of the file.
Cost. Individually licensed copies of many popular software programs can be costly. Networkable
versions are available at considerable savings. Shared programs, on a network allows for easier
upgrading of the program on one single file server, instead of upgrading individual workstations.
Security. Sensitive files and programs on a network are passwords protected (established for

The Differences Of Aztecs And Mayan Civilizations
Aztecs and Mayans were the biggest civilizations in Mesoamerica. They are known for having
mass amounts of knowledge in subjects like astronomy, mathematics, agriculture and architecture.
These two civilizations have their own creation myth: Mayas have Popol Vuh, while Aztecs have
Mito de los Cinco Soles. Both works have given an insight on their culture s values, ways of living
and beliefs. However, when the Spanish came to America most of the books containing essential
information of these civilizations were destroyed. Some of the written works that were rescued
pertained to both: Mesoamerican and Spanish authors. The Mayan and Aztecworks Chilam Balam
and Presagios segГєn los informantes de SahagГєn describe Spanish brutality and abuses, defining
them as violent. In contrast Spanish works Segunda Carta de RelaciГіn de HernГЎn Cortes and
Carta de Pedro de Alvarado justify Spanish actions against Mesoamericas civilizations by
portraying their own leaders as saviors. Spanish and Mesoamerican civilizations texts show
contradictory points of view towards the conquest, creating skepticism on what really happened
during that time.
Popol Vuh and Mito de los Cinco Soles are relevant texts because they emphasize the importance of
sacrifice in their culture. The Mayan book, Popol Vuh, is a broad text that contains the myths of
earth, humanity, and life creation; as well as it emphasizes the influence deities had in their life.

Complex Software System Development Projects
In the software industry, it is common place to find large and very complex software system
development projects with the number of individual requirements expected from it running into
the multitude of thousand many times. There are usually more requirements than you can
implement in the allocated stakeholder s time and resources. The software solution that the
customer has in mind and wants to be in place cannot be delivered in a single release. Even if it
could be done, it would be a very costly affair which would eat away a lot of time and pose
greater risks due to the nature of the big bang approach one has to follow to implement it. Further,
there will also be restrictions in the form of capital and time from the stakeholder or... Show more

So from this it can be concluded that for any project which has resource restriction, one has to
establish the relative priorities of the requested features, use cases, or functional requirements. This
kind of prioritization helps the software solution provider to plan for staged deliveries, to make the
indispensable trade off decisions and also goes a long way in the resolution of possible conflicts in
the future. In concise, the major factors which lead to prioritization of requirements are: relative
differences in importance, limited project resources, long schedules and budget constraints. If we
manage to implement just those requirements that meet customer and user needs, the software
solution provider reaps the following benefits: The product development time shortens: This is due
to the fact that we have only the major requirements to be implemented now. So, the first release
will be ready for implementation early due to less functionalities involved. The product
development cost decreases: There is a drop in the development cost as we are taking up only the
most important requirements and implementing them. Prioritization: Prioritization means to
balance the business benefit of each requirement against its cost and any implication it might have
on the architectural foundation and future evolution of the project/product. In the road map for
product development, only the candidate requirements are congregated and finally during the
release phase only these

Klein s Influence On Children And Young Essay
In terms of biological drives, Klein believed drives were aimed toward objects, such as an infant
seeking milk from a mother s breast. The object s in an infant s world, especially during the first
few months of life are essentially good or bad. Thus, if the child receives milk, the breast is good,
if not, it is bad. Klein posits that the objects within one s world as an infantconsist of gratification
and hostility. In addition to drives, infants are focused on the internal object, which is more of a
fantasy than an object based in reality, as the infant struggles to know the difference at this point
in life. These fantasies are representations of bodily instincts and urges that the infant can feel
physically and mentally. Thus in the case of the bad breast , the infant is frustrated and feels
discomfort due to not receiving the milk, and this is interpreted by the infant as if he or she was
being attacked by a hostile force. As the child develops, he or she begins to understand the good

She concludes that the superego is present at birth and the Oedipal complex occurs during the first

caregiver performed for the child. She notes that the good breast is the main point allowing the ego
to develop, similar to the good enough mother posed by Winnicott. Klein notes that life and death
instinct are deflected onto an external object which is often the breast, either satisfying or
frustrating. Thus the breast is the object allowing the child to begin the development of the ego.
The superego stems from an infant s views of his or her parents, thus they are not accurate

If Inequality Is Increasing, Are We Likely to See More...
The question assumes that there is a linear relationship between inequality and armed conflict; the
rise of the former inevitably leads to the increase of the latter. However, in the absence of
functioning communism or utopian egalitarianism, we need to concede that our world is full of
inequalities, but not all parts of the world are equally ridden by conflict. Moreover, large N studies
of civil war, conducted over the past few years, all seem to conclude that inequality is not
directly linked to the risk of civil war (Collier Hoeffler, 2004: 563 595; Fearon Laitin, 2003: 75 90;
Hegre, Gissinger, Gleditsch, 2003: 251 276). Following this lead, I will argue for a non linear link

Contradictory results might be explained by emphasising the diversity of the term inequality .
Mount (2008:3), classifies four different forms of inequality: political inequality, inequality of
opportunities, inequality of treatment in society, inequality of membership in society. To this list
we could add the, partly overlapping, categories of inequality of race, gender, status, class, age,
income, inequality of access to resources, education and medical services. At any given place and
time, the specific constellation and degree of various forms of inequality will be unique. Can we
expect distinct constellations and levels of inequality to conform to the simple linear relationship
suggested in the title? Besançon s (2005) findings that different socio political set ups have
differing results with regards to conflict are but one hint towards greater complexity. As a result,
she associates herself with academics suggesting that causes for all types of civil wars and armed
conflict are not necessarily parallel. Instead, she argues, a micro analysis of specific cases might
prove more fruitful. A claim for complexity can be further underpinned by invoking Stewart s
(2000) analysis of horizontal inequality. Structurally, one can distinguish between vertical
inequality, which is based on objectively quantifiable differences between people (e.g. income,
wealth, etc.) and

Lord of the Flies, a suggestive name for the Devil, a devil whose name proposes that he is devoted

He is eventually chosen as leader on account of his many positive qualities. He maintains a
conflict with Jack throughout the entire novel, trying to keep order while Jack isn t as dedicated

most intellectual boy on the island, but since he has no social skills, he is usually in the
background trying to maintain the peace. Together Ralph and Piggy represent the struggle for order
and democracy.
The next thing that shows up in the story that has very importance as a symbol is the conch.
Piggy and Ralph were walking around the island looking for others, when they see a pink shell
shimmering in the water. Piggy recalled the shell as one he had seen used as an instrument. Upon
seeing this, he picked it up, handed it to Ralph, the leader figure, and told him to blow. As he did

Peace Like a River Essay
Life can be viewed as a battle field, a constant fight between good and evil. In Leif Enger s Peace
Like a River, this scenario was well depicted. In the novel, there was a constant fight taking place
between the good and evil characters, and though based around family, love, and brotherhood, the
novelmainly focused on the conflict between these characters.
This student felt that it was fair to classify the Lands along with Roxanna Cowley, The Shultzs and
Dr. Nokes as the good characters. This was a fair classification as these characters maintained their
positive personas throughout the novel. On the other hand, Superintendent Holgren, Israel Finch,
Tommy Busca, and Jape Waltzer can be classified as the bad characters. The main... Show more

Davy felt that once he destroyed evil, everything would be settled and that his family could go on
like normal, but Davy had turned into a wanted individual; his family was left to battle even more
evil. Jeremiah had been working at Rueben and Swedes school as a janitor. After the two murders
Superintendent Holgren began to treat Jeremiah differently, as he allowed his opinion to determine
whether or not Jeremiah deserved the job. Holgren made work even more difficult and disagreed
with everything that Jeremiah did. Jeremiah, being the calm person that he was, never retaliated
with negative words. He allowed Holgren to mistreat him, even in front of the staff and students in
the school. Holgren finally resorted to firing Jeremiah in front of everyone, but Jeremiah simply
touched his face and walked away. The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men
to do nothing (Budha).
Jeremiah did nothing but simply left things in God s hands. He allowed Holgren to make a fool out
of himself and surprisingly, he healed Holgren s face from those unsightly sores.
Once again good triumphed over evil. This student felt that Jeremiah maintained his composure
and acted just as he should. The best way to deal with situations is to walk away and Jeremiah
proved to have such discipline. The Lands faced a lot of negativity from persons who were once

Examples Of Poor Judgement In Alice In Wonderland
The book Alice s Adventures in Wonderland is about Alice and her adventure down a rabbit hole.
In the book she portrays very poor judgment and makes awful decisions. She may also be
dreaming throughout the book thus the reasons she makes very bad decisions. Alice has very
poor judgement, she makes awful choices throughout the book. Some of the choices she makes
puts her in bad positions but she somehow finds a way out of them. In the beginning of the book
Alice sees a rabbit wearing clothes saying he was late, so she followed it. She followed for
sometime and then it disappeared down it s hole. Alice, having poor judgment, followed it down
the hole without consideration of how she would get back out. She found herself falling down a very

talking caterpillar. Towards the end of the book she comes to a kingdom of cards. With regular

Htc Case Analysis
The Chums Consulting present the following recommendations to the board of directors of HTC
for your review.
Challenge
HTC, while maintaining its current ODM business, will develop a strategy that leverages its core
competence as a mobile phone manufacturer to create a premium HTC branded smart phone to
achieve a 12% global market share of all end user smart phones within 3 years.
HTC will form strategic partnerships with one or more operating system providers to ensure the
design of the smart phone is tailored and optimised to the selected operating system(s).
HTC will reach customers and create a sustainable sales channel by developing a dynamic sales
model that factors in the unique nature of different national and regional markets. ... Show more

The middle and low end models will be distributed internationally via a range of carriers to provide
consumers seeking a lower priced smartphone with the ability to buy a quality HTC smartphone
without changing their current carriers or contract options.
Solution
Based on the analysis of the market and given the potential alternatives, we recommend that the
third alternative will be the best solution for HTC. A Porters analysis was undertaken for an
assessment of the smartphone market which shows that there are two main forces to take into
consideration: competing sellers and buyers. Considering these characteristics of the market we
believe that HTC will be able to feasibly and profitably enter the smartphone market under its own
branded phone.
In addition to the Porters analysis a SWOT analysis (Appendix 1) was conducted that highlighted an
opportunity to form a strategic partnership with Google to customize the UI using their Android
operating system (a free open resource OS), significantly reducing licensing costs.
For a sustainable manufacturing future, HTC with use the revenue gained from the cost savings by
using of the Android OS to further develop its R amp;D department to ensure it remains
competitive and successful in hardware design. Moreover, as an established ODM company,

The Caste System By Mashasweta Devi
Please don t play your games with a helpless poor girl declared Dhowli. The Misra boy leaned in
closer to her replying, I m not playing games. Dhowli then shouted back You ll leave after you
tire of the game, and what will become of me? Am I to be like Jhale? No, deota, not that. (238). I
m hesitate to keep reading after this line thinking to myself how I feel sorry for Dhowli and who
she is going to become since getting pregnant with a Misra boy who is dominant in the caste
system. Dhowli creates an ambitious, courageous, and philosophical figure in the short story
Dhowli by Mashasweta Devi. In the short story the caste system is well defined showing of social
stratification of two opposite levels of the social chain in India. To an American reader the
foreignness of how India treats single mothers is how this short story stands out. Dhowli plays
the role of an untouchable that is very poor who gets pregnant by a Misra boy, which is on the
top of the caste system. Dhowli and her mother work on the Misra boy s family s land doing the
worst chores for the littlest about of millet and grain for Dhowli and her mother to live off of. The
chores consist of sweeping the garden, while managing the wind, and tending to the goats. The
word about Dhowli s pregnancy spreads through the village rapidly. When Dhowli goes outside she
gets stares and has to watch her every move since she is an untouchable and people do horrible
things to untouchables. When the Misra s family

As foreign investment and international trade continue to drive globalisation, many companies are
excited by the prospect of entering international marketplaces. However, due to the unique nature of
overseas marketplaces, it is oftentimes difficult to identify which nations will support business
growth, and those who will not. As a result, many companies employ the global expertise of Ryan

The Philippines produces a similar annual GDP of approximately A$388.81B with growth,
surpassing Malaysia, at 5.9% (World Bank, 2015). However, the Philippine economy involves
itself less in international trading than Malaysia; reflected in a mere Current Account Balance of
A$262M (CEIC, 2016). Whilst both economies seem very similar, Malaysia has less than one third
the population of the Philippines (World Bank, 2016). This indicates, as illustrated by Graph 2.1,
that Malaysia s GDP per capita, GDP minus the effect of population, is significantly larger than the
Philippines (Economist Intelligence Unit, 2017). Therefore, total economic efficiency and
productivity in Malaysia is considerably higher than the Philippines; with a smaller population
producing greater output. This high economic efficiency, which creates wealth and jobs, also
increases levels of employment (CIA, 2017). This sizeable productivity showcased by Malaysia
assures further growth and continuation of economic stability. Both nations have also reduced
interest rates through monetary policy (Global Rates, 2017). This will likely lead to increased
borrowing, investment and expenditure; stimulating the economy (Boundless, 2016). Malaysia is,
hence, a more stable economy, with lower current and long term risks involved for businesses
looking to enter the market. RIC classifies Harvest Box

Journalism, I used think was taking stories and publishing them in as many words as possible for

Being trusted by millions of people is more than an honor or privilege, but rather it is a power of

of the articles published reached 1.5 million views in just ten days. Coler makes anywhere from

Why The State Is A Weak Player On Public Policy
I argue that the state is a relatively weak player in delivering public policy in contemporary
governance. I make this argument with reference to a program implement after the 1997
economic crisis in Indonesia. Djiwandono (2006) concludes that the economic crisis in 1997 was
caused by the combination of weak domestic economic and inefficiencies financial structures and
contagion forces from external. Specifically, the combination of external shock starting in
Thailand in 1997 and the weak Indonesia banking system soon resulted a systemic banking crisis
(Omori, 2014). Data shows that Rupiah depreciated 80% in just less than 12 months, economic
growth slumped from 7 8% annually to negative growth of approximately 14%, inflation hiked
from single digits to 80%, reversed capital flowed by $22 billion, unemployment rose by 5 million
and poor people doubled from 12% to close to 25% (Djiwandono, 2006). On January 15, 1998
Indonesian governmentlaunched a program known as an Economic Recovery and Reform Program
or IMF Plus Reforms Program . This was a broad program which consisted of some specific
programs such as currency stabilization (Rupiah in term of Dollar), hyperinflation prevention,
banking restructuring, structural reformation, private foreign debt settlement and assistance
programs for the poor (Ministry of Finance Republic of Indonesia, 2013). The aim of the program
is to seize the decline of Rupiah, to restore market lost confidence in government, to deal with

Historical Perspectives Of The Treatment Of Cardiac...
HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVES OF THE TREATMENT OF CARDIAC ARRHYTHMIA
INTRODUCTION:
The contraction and relaxation of the heart is represented in the form of electrical signals in
electrocardiogram. Normally the depolarisation of SA node present in the right atrium of the heart
is helpful in determining the heart rate of a person. SA node i.e. the sino atrial node is called the
natural pacemaker of the heart. The electrical signal produced by the SA node starts the first beat, it
causes the atria to contract and then these signals arrive AV node which allows ventricles to
contract causing the blood to flow throughout the body. The normal rate at which heart beats is 60
to 100 beats per minute. Any changes in this rhythm cause cardiac ... Show more content on

Tilt Table Test: The heart rate and blood pressure is measured while lying on the table and then the
table is tilted and doctor monitors the heart activity.
Electrophysiological testing and mapping: Electrodes are placed in the heart and mapping of the
electrical signals within the heart is done. (Scott C. Litin, October 6 2009)
TREATMENT:
For bradycardia generally an artificial pacemaker is used which implanted near your heart so when
the heart slows down or stops pacemaker generates impulses in order to stimulate the heart.
For tachycardia generally a pacemaker is used which emits impulses for the normal functioning of
the heart. In this condition implantable cardioverter defibrillator is also used.
It is recommended only when the patient is at high risk. When there occurs sudden cardiac arrest
then this implantable device sends low or high impulses to reset the heart so as to beat in normal
rhythm. Many surgical procedures like maze procedure in which doctors make an incision in the
cardiac tissues and thus they does not conduct electricity and which results in lowering down of the
heart rate, another surgical procedure involved is cardiac bypass surgery, this is performed when
there are many other coronary artery problems other than arrhythmia. Minor tachycardia can also be
controlled by medication. (Scott C. Litin,

Sublime Elements in Like Water for Chocolate by Laura...
The novel Like Water for Chocolate, published in 1989, was written by Laura Esquivel who is
of Spanish heritage. She lives in Mexico, and Like Water for Chocolate was her first novel. I feel
that in the story Laura Esquivel gives a lot of magical elements that are treated as real in order to
evoke emotions about love, but it also employs many features of sublime literature.
In Like Water for Chocolate, a girl named Tita was born. When she was first born, it mentions that
she was literally washed into this world on a great tide of tears that spilled over the edge of the
table and flooded across the kitchen floor (6). This occurrence appears to be a magical element
rather than the sublime. A baby cannot be washed into the world.... Show more content on

By crying one tear into the wedding cake, Tita ruined the whole wedding cake and affected a
multitude of people.
Another magical characteristic in the story is that Gertrudis s body was giving off so much heat
that the wooden walls of the shower began to split and burst into flame (54). Terrified, she
thought that she would be burnt to death, and she ran out of the little enclosure just as she was,
completely naked (54). This happening is a magical element; however, it also could be linked to
the sublime literature as well because it is an example of Longinus notion of intensification
using sublime language. Also, the scent of roses given off by Gertrudis s body a long, long way
(54), all the way to town, where the rebel forces and the federal troops were engaged in a fierce
battle is a magical realist element as well as an example of the intensification accomplished by
sublime language (Longinus).
Further into the story, Tita removed the boy from her breast: a thin stream of milk sprayed out.
Tita could not understand it. It was not possible for an unmarried woman to have milk, short of a
supernatural act, unheard of in these times (76). This occurrence is both magical and sublime.
Something like this can not happen and, therefore, is magical, yet it also presents a lofty image of
lone, which is keeping with Longinus notion of the

Three years later, the company launched a memorable advertising campaign with commercials in which a little girl showed her mother a report card from the dentist and announced Look, Ma! No cavities! Within a few years, virtually all brands of toothpaste used fluoride; however, the use of fluoride in drinking water remained controversial. As late as 1993, in fact, the issue of fluoridation remained heated enough to spawn a study by the U.S. National Research Council. The council found some improvement in dental health, but not as large as had been claimed by early proponents of fluoridation. Furthermore, this improvement could be explained by reference to a number of other factors, including fluoride in toothpastes and a generally heightened awareness of dental health among the U.S. populace. Chlorofluorocarbons : Another controversial application of fluorine is its use, along with chlorine and carbon, in chlorofluorocarbons. As noted above, CFCs have been used in refrigerants and propellants; another application is as a blowing agent for polyurethane foam. This continued for several decades, but in the 1980s, environmentalists became concerned over depletion of the ozone layer high in Earth s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Pharmaceutical Care Plan Community acquired pneumonia (CAP) is a term used to describe an acute lower respiratory tract infection in individuals with signs, symptoms and a new radiographic shadowing for which there is no other explanation and who have not recently been hospitalized. CAP is common and associated with major morbidity, mortality and financial burden. The annual incidence in the community is 5 11 per 1000 adult population, with the reported mortality less than 1% (BTS guideline, 2009). The reported mortality of adults hospitalised with CAP in the UK has varied between 5.7% and 14%. It is the sixth leading cause of death, and the leading infectious cause of death (Maimon, Nopmaneejumruslers and Marras, 2008). The group of most likely causative... The effectiveness of Unions and how they are important for the stability of the American economy. Unions provide many benefits to employees due to the working relationship with management and politicians in the U.S Congress. Some of the benefits that provided by unions are, paid vacations, pensions, an 8 hour work day with breaks and social security benefits. Unions are continually fighting with politicians and the State Government for better benefits. Will discuss the role of HRM s employee relations within the organizations and what role the government should play. Increased Role of U.S. Labor Unions In the United States unions have impacted the workforce by creating better benefits for all works. Unions work to improve the working conditions in the workplace by working with the organization to make sure they are following the labor laws of the State and Federal Government. Labor unions date back to the eighteenth century and the industrial revolution in Europe. (Union Plus, n.d.) • 5. Is Friar Lawrence a Good Man, Evil Character or Simply a... Friar Lawrence plays a strong central character throughout the play, Romeo and Juliet. The Friar is linked to both the Capulet s and the Montague s through religion and the church. Friar Lawrence is presented as a holy man who is trusted and respected by the community because he is a priest. Friar Lawrence is an advisor and close friend to Romeo. This is apparent when Romeo addresses the Friar as father and Friar Lawrence addresses Romeo as his son. Romeo goes to Friar Lawrence for help and consolation, for example, when Romeo speaks about Juliet for the first time, Friar Lawrence speaks to him about Rosaline. This shows that their relationship is close as they seem to know a lot about each other and becomes more apparent... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Friar Lawrence s egotistical attitude seems to have caused more grief than comfort. By suggesting that Juliet drinks the potion, he shows a more selfish side to his personality. I believe that the Friars intensions are still good at this point, however he could be trying to save himself from the situation as he may have doubts about the upcoming events, showing that there is a very unforgiving side to him. Friar Lawrence has to be devious in order to carry out the new idealistic plan. As a priest, he should not lie in any situation. Friar Lawrence asks come, is the Bride ready to go to church? to the Capulet family. He already knew full well that the wedding was not going to go ahead, however by saying this to the family, he is pretending that he knows nothing and gets prepared to bury Juliet. This shows how deceptive the Friar can be as he remains very composed throughout the day, which only reinforces his superiority and confidence amongst the community. As Juliet awakes from her planned long sleep, she asks Friar Lawrence where is my Romeo? He tells her he lies dead. At this point, Friar Lawrence would have been very worried about his actions and he tries to cover up the lies to fix what happened. He asks Juliet to come, I ll dispose of thee, among a sisterhood of holy Nuns. Friar Lawrence is afraid of his actions and of being exposed as a failure and liar. Proposing this to Juliet would have been the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Gulf Of Mexico And America The Gulf of Mexico is a partially locked body of water surrounded by the North American continent (Gulf of Mexico, 2000). The gulf links five southern U.S states: Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Texas and six Mexican states: Tamaulipas, Vera Cruz, Tabasco, Campeche, YucatГЎn, and Quintana Roo (Gulf of MexicoFacts, 2015). The gulf surrounds Cuba and connects to the Atlantic Ocean. The Gulf of Mexico may just seem like another body of water, but that is far from the truth. This body of water has many contributions to society and society has also affected it in many ways because of its resources. Before doing any research I believed that the Gulf of Mexico was owned by Mexico and I found out that this was a misconception. No one other than the federal government owns this body of water. There are Territorial waters, which are areas of a body of water that contact land and are claimed by an specific country (Who Owns the Gulf of Mexico? 2010). This means that there is a 12 miles wide band that would belong to what ever land it touches. For example 12 miles out of the coast of Florida belong to the United States. However, parts of the Gulf of Mexico can be leased to petroleumand gas companies in order for the government and the companies to create a profit. The word profit takes me to one of my points of this paper on how the Gulf of Mexico helps the people and the country. The Gulf of Mexico benefits North America greatly because of its economical aspects. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the 1690 s an Italian scientist invented a solar furnace that was so hot it could shatter a diamond, one of the hardest substances on earth (Asimov 119). The real question around the beginning of the 19th century concerning solar energy was quot;could the sun produce electricity directly? quot; The main motivation behind this desire was that electricity could be stored in a battery, and used later. It would not be necessary to use the device in the sunlight. All inventions failed, until Frank Shuman, an engineer from Pennsylvania finally made a breakthrough. He built an experimental plant that used black troughs covered in glass with a few inches of water. When exposed to the sun, the water got very hot, causing it to circulate and power an electric generator. His data was so convincing that he got financial backers and built the world s first solar electric power plant in Egypt. However, the Eastern Sun Power Company went out of business even though it was using free fuel. It didn t produce enough electricity for the area that it used, 14,000 sq. ft of sun collecting land (Zweibel 48). In 1954 Bell Laboratories invented the first photovoltaic (or solar) cell, made from the semi conductor silicon, and other elements. During the time of 1763 1775 one of the occurrences that happened to affect the colonist s perception of the British was the French and Indian War. The amazing thing is that the war itself was not the main factor of the colonist s trouble with the British, but the time after the war that was the cause of trouble. During the war the British fought with France around the Ohio valley for the control of land. The Ohio valley was very important to both of the empires, because of the value of the land and the strategic point it held in the years to come. • 13. Realism and Romanticism within The Red Badge of Courage Realism and Romanticism Within The Red Badge of Courage The Red Badge of Courage, written by Stephan Crane in 1895 gives a detailed, yet, fictional account of Henry Fleming, a farm boy who joins the Union Army in the American Civil War. Before Henry is battle tested, he ponders his courage and questions whether he will be able to fight the urge to flee from battle. Henry does indeed end up deserting his comrades however he ultimately overcomes his guilt and becomes one of the best fighters in his regiment. In order to depict a realistic and relatable war scene, Crane includes Henry s realistic thought process and emotion in his struggles to maintain courage. The narrative simply revealed war in a manner that was divergent to all prior forms of literature in the 19th century. Previous novels predominately entailed the glorious and romantic aspects of war rather than the tedious, gritty, and gruesome details of close combat. Instead, Crane broke the barriers of literary norms in war related literature; the novel depicted a pragmatic experience of combat from the eyes of an inexperienced and frightened youth. In the Red Badge of Courage, Stephan Crane primarily uses religious and gory imagery as well as symbolism to contrast the romantic conceptions of war versus the reality of experiencing battle. One of the primary methods used to illustrate realism throughout The Red Badge of Courage would be imagery. The entire book is essentially an outpouring of impressions and ... • 14. Environmental Factors And Causes Of Climate Change In Kenya Climate change in today s world has become of great concern due to its effects on the environment. Globally, climate change has significantly influenced ecosystems and the existence of organisms. This is further extending its effects to regional areas such as Kenya, whose ecosystem is not spared by the changing climate. Despite having natural causes, Anthropogenic factors are widely increasing and causing climate changeundisputed. Therefore, human activities are the primary contributors to climate change leading to stress and ecosystemstrain, to continue providing for its services. In this report, I discuss the summary of global climate change and regional focus on causes of climate change in Kenya, its effects in ecosystem especially on the natural ecosystems, current measures to curb the effects and the perception of the future ecosystem of the country. Introduction Climate change is defined as a change of climate that is attributed directly or indirectly to human activity that alters the composition of the global atmosphere, and that is in addition to natural climate variability observed over comparable time periods (UNFCC, 1992). • 15. Socio Cultural Context Socio Cultural context has been a part of human history for eons. Individuals implement this theory daily through their language that is closely linked to their culture and time in society. The intersection of social and cultural events has helped to inform many phenomena that people had in earlier years. However, as with any national phenomena, there is a riskfactor that is prevalent. This paper will delve into what socio culture context is and a basic interpretation of risks, behavior risk, and sexual risk taking. Language is the lenses in which we view culture through our eyes. The term socio cultural context is referring to the idea of language rather than what the social group does to implement their practice. Though the term is linked to culture and that society, it s mainly about the language that is invented in that culture. As a middle class African Americanwoman, my socio cultural context stems from police brutality and feminism that is present in my community. Police Brutality has been around for a very long time and it s sad that it still goes on today. When an African American family sends their child out to buy food or go shopping there is always a settle conversation about the police. Conversations that stem from the risk of being around the police is always to keep your identification in a reachable position, don t make any fast movements, and don t do anything that would cause the officer to pull you over. • 16. Stock Market Predictability Essay I will now examine the effectiveness of the Book to Market ratio in predicting stock market returns. The Book to Market ratio is used to compare the book value and the market value of the firm. The book value is calculated by the firm s accounting worth. The market value is determined by the market capitalization in the stock market. It is then found using the formula, Book Value of the firm / Market Value of the firm. Its purpose is to identify any securities that may be undervalued or overvalued. From the research of Fama and French (1992), we can see the cross sectional variation in stock returns can be shown by the book to market ratio of individual stocks. However, in the paper s findings, the book to market ratio s predictive power is more prominent before 1960 as there is no significant relation after 1960. The paper also concludes that after 1960, the S P book to market ratio is a better predictor of market returns than is the DJIA book to market ratio and the S P book value is better than the DJIA book value in predicting market cash flow . Therefore, the book to market ratio is a good predictor for future market returns as long as we have a measure of book value that has high correlation with future cash flows. Some financial experts argue that certain macroeconomic variables can be used for predicting stock returns. One such macroeconomic variable is the Consumption to Wealth ratio. I will now examine how effective this variable is in predicting future stock market returns. The expected excess returns vary with the growths and dips in the business cycle, therefore, they should be predictable at different stages of the cycle. To examine the relationship, we note that aggregate consumption, asset holdings and labour income all share the same long term trend, but in the short term they may deviate substantially from one another. Your good name is the only way you can get other people to do business with you or even get a fair hearing. Of course, reputation meant nothing when a witchcraft accusation was staring you in the face. But reputation is what made the Reverend hale begin to doubt whether the accused individuals were actually guilty. And it was for the sake of his reputation and his friends reputations that John Proctor refused to sign a false confession. He would, quite literally, rather die. Although John Proctor goes to his death falsely condemned as a witch, he gains his reputation and respect among those who matter, like his wife, because he refuses to falsely identify his friends and neighbours as witches. The loss of Abigail s reputation toward the end of the play shows that characters in The Crucible eventually earn the reputations they deserve, despite the personal tragedies that might take place along the way. Having a good reputation is very important in The Crucible. It means you can be accepted by society. If you do not have a good name, you will be completely rejected. Hardin Living On A Lifeboat Summary To begin with, Hardin s essay Living on a Lifeboat expresses fear of over population by comparing nations to life boats, since they both have limited carrying capacities. For instance, Hardin asks the question, Would you fill a life boat at its maximum capacity with another 100 people? Specifically, Hardin mentions the loss of land and how we have been historically living on capital such as stored petroleum and coal, and now we must depend on income alone (Hard 857). Basically, Hardin s core thesis is that we do not have moral obligations to the poor. To break down Hardin s approach, he critiques multiple approaches to this problem of ensuring economic will being for everyone. First, he mentions the Marxist and Christian approaches which would lead to complete social justice, but also complete catastrophe, since the lifeboat in his example would drown due to overcapacity... By doing this, Hardin is postulating that collective economic growth and safety are more desirable than an economy based on moral obligations and equality. To expand, Hardin is critiquing globalism, since he finds it impossible for the U.S or developing nations to be the life boat supporting nations with high population growth rates. According to Hardin, there is simply not enough recourses and too much population growth to live according to a Marxist or Christian ethic of equality. To expand, Hardin s main critique of the Marxist Christian theory is that it does not take into account human selfishness and cannot be sustainable to growing populations ... Some of the written works that were rescued pertained to both: Mesoamerican and Spanish authors. The Mayan and Aztecworks Chilam Balam and Presagios segГєn los informantes de SahagГєn describe Spanish brutality and abuses, defining them as violent. In contrast Spanish works Segunda Carta de RelaciГіn de HernГЎn Cortes and Carta de Pedro de Alvarado justify Spanish actions against Mesoamericas civilizations by portraying their own leaders as saviors. Spanish and Mesoamerican civilizations texts show contradictory points of view towards the conquest, creating skepticism on what really happened during that time. Popol Vuh and Mito de los Cinco Soles are relevant texts because they emphasize the importance of sacrifice in their culture. Complex Software System Development Projects In the software industry, it is common place to find large and very complex software system development projects with the number of individual requirements expected from it running into the multitude of thousand many times. There are usually more requirements than you can implement in the allocated stakeholder s time and resources. The software solution that the customer has in mind and wants to be in place cannot be delivered in a single release. Even if it could be done, it would be a very costly affair which would eat away a lot of time and pose greater risks due to the nature of the big bang approach one has to follow to implement it. So from this it can be concluded that for any project which has resource restriction, one has to establish the relative priorities of the requested features, use cases, or functional requirements. This kind of prioritization helps the software solution provider to plan for staged deliveries, to make the indispensable trade off decisions and also goes a long way in the resolution of possible conflicts in the future. In concise, the major factors which lead to prioritization of requirements are: relative differences in importance, limited project resources, long schedules and budget constraints. If we manage to implement just those requirements that meet customer and user needs, the software solution provider reaps the following benefits: The product development time shortens: This is due to the fact that we have only the major requirements to be implemented now. So, the first release will be ready for implementation early due to less functionalities involved. The product development cost decreases: There is a drop in the development cost as we are taking up only the most important requirements and implementing them. Prioritization: Prioritization means to balance the business benefit of each requirement against its cost and any implication it might have on the architectural foundation and future evolution of the project/product. • 35. Klein s Influence On Children And Young Essay In terms of biological drives, Klein believed drives were aimed toward objects, such as an infant seeking milk from a mother s breast. The object s in an infant s world, especially during the first few months of life are essentially good or bad. Thus, if the child receives milk, the breast is good, if not, it is bad. Klein posits that the objects within one s world as an infantconsist of gratification and hostility. In addition to drives, infants are focused on the internal object, which is more of a fantasy than an object based in reality, as the infant struggles to know the difference at this point in life. These fantasies are representations of bodily instincts and urges that the infant can feel physically and mentally. Thus in the case of the bad breast , the infant is frustrated and feels discomfort due to not receiving the milk, and this is interpreted by the infant as if he or she was being attacked by a hostile force. Klein notes that life and death instinct are deflected onto an external object which is often the breast, either satisfying or frustrating. Thus the breast is the object allowing the child to begin the development of the ego. • 36. If Inequality Is Increasing, Are We Likely to See More... The question assumes that there is a linear relationship between inequality and armed conflict; the rise of the former inevitably leads to the increase of the latter. However, in the absence of functioning communism or utopian egalitarianism, we need to concede that our world is full of inequalities, but not all parts of the world are equally ridden by conflict. Moreover, large N studies of civil war, conducted over the past few years, all seem to conclude that inequality is not directly linked to the risk of civil war (Collier Hoeffler, 2004: 563 595; Fearon Laitin, 2003: 75 90; Hegre, Gissinger, Gleditsch, 2003: 251 276). Contradictory results might be explained by emphasising the diversity of the term inequality . Mount (2008:3), classifies four different forms of inequality: political inequality, inequality of opportunities, inequality of treatment in society, inequality of membership in society. To this list we could add the, partly overlapping, categories of inequality of race, gender, status, class, age, income, inequality of access to resources, education and medical services. At any given place and time, the specific constellation and degree of various forms of inequality will be unique. Can we expect distinct constellations and levels of inequality to conform to the simple linear relationship suggested in the title? BesanГ§on s (2005) findings that different socio political set ups have differing results with regards to conflict are but one hint towards greater complexity. As a result, she associates herself with academics suggesting that causes for all types of civil wars and armed conflict are not necessarily parallel. Instead, she argues, a micro analysis of specific cases might prove more fruitful. A claim for complexity can be further underpinned by invoking Stewart s (2000) analysis of horizontal inequality. Structurally, one can distinguish between vertical inequality, which is based on objectively quantifiable differences between people (e.g. income, wealth, etc.) and ... The Lord of the Flies (1954), is a novel in which interpretating the symbols are a main key to not only understanding, but also enjoying the novel. Djiwandono (2006) concludes that the economic crisis in 1997 was caused by the combination of weak domestic economic and inefficiencies financial structures and contagion forces from external. She lives in Mexico, and Like Water for Chocolate was her first novel. I feel that in the story Laura Esquivel gives a lot of magical elements that are treated as real in order to evoke emotions about love, but it also employs many features of sublime literature. In Like Water for Chocolate, a girl named Tita was born. When she was first born, it mentions that she was literally washed into this world on a great tide of tears that spilled over the edge of the table and flooded across the kitchen floor (6). This occurrence appears to be a magical element rather than the sublime. A baby cannot be washed into the world.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By crying one tear into the wedding cake, Tita ruined the whole wedding cake and affected a multitude of people. Another magical characteristic in the story is that Gertrudis s body was giving off so much heat that the wooden walls of the shower began to split and burst into flame (54). Terrified, she thought that she would be burnt to death, and she ran out of the little enclosure just as she was, completely naked (54). This happening is a magical element; however, it also could be linked to the sublime literature as well because it is an example of Longinus notion of intensification using sublime language. Also, the scent of roses given off by Gertrudis s body a long, long way (54), all the way to town, where the rebel forces and the federal troops were engaged in a fierce battle is a magical realist element as well as an example of the intensification accomplished by sublime language (Longinus). Further into the story, Tita removed the boy from her breast: a thin stream of milk sprayed out. Tita could not understand it. It was not possible for an unmarried woman to have milk, short of a supernatural act, unheard of in these times (76). This occurrence is both magical and sublime.
